| 3 | Photosynthesis, Growth and Antioxidant Metabolism in Mustard (Brassica juncea L.) Cultivars Differing in Cadmium Tolerance显示文摘Two mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern and Coss.) cultivars, Pusa Jai Kisan and SS2 differing in cadmium (Cd) tolerance were treated with 0, 25 and 50 μmol L-1 Cd to study the physiological basis of difference in Cd tolerance. Cultivar SS2 (Cd sensitive) accumulated greater Cd in leaves than Pusa Jai Kisan (Cd tolerant). Further, SS2 also exhibited higher contents of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and H2O2 and electrolyte leakage. However, the activities of antioxidant enzymes, catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), and glutathione reductase (GR) were higher in Pusa Jai Kisan than those in SS2. Contrarily, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) was higher in SS2 than that in Pusa Jai Kisan and was the greatest at 25 μmol L-1 Cd. Treatment of 25 μmol L-1 Cd induced the maximum activity of enzymes. However, the activity of GR increased up to 50 μmol L-1 Cd in both the cultivars. The non-enzymatic antioxidants ascorbate (AsA) and glutathione (GSH) were higher in Pusa Jai Kisan than that in SS2, whereas dehydroascorbate (DHA) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) were higher in SS2. Photosynthesis and growth were adversely and maximally decreased by 50 μmol L-1 Cd treatment in both the cultivars, but SS2 exhibited greater reductions. The protection of photosynthesis and growth and lesser reduction in Pusa Jai Kisan were associated with its capacity to restrict accumulation of Cd in leaves resulting in lower level of TBARS and H2O2 and electrolyte leakage. | 5 | A Study of Melt Flow Analysis of an ABS-Iron Composite in Fused Deposition Modelling Process显示文摘Fused deposition modelling (FDM) is a filament based rapid prototyping system which offers the possibility of introducing new composite material for the FDM process as long as the new material can be made in feedstock filament form. Swinburne has been undertaking extensive research in development of new composite materials involving acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and other materials including metals. In order to predict the behaviour of new ABS based composite materials in the course of FDM process, it is necessary to investigate the flow of the composite material in liquefier head. No such study is available considering the geometry of the liquefier head. This paper presents 2-D and 3-D numerical analysis of melt flow behaviour of a representative ABS-iron composite through the 90-degree bent tube of the liquefier head of the fused deposition modelling process using ANSYS FLOTRAN and CFX finite element packages. Main flow parameters including temperature, velocity, and pressure drop have been investigated. Filaments of the filled ABS have been fabricated and characterized to verify the possibility of prototyping using the new material on the current FDM machine. | 8 | Optimal vector-valued intensity measure for seismic collapse assessment of structures显示文摘The present study is aimed to investigate the ability of different intensity measures(IMs), including response spectral acceleration at the fundamental period of the structure, S a(T1), as a common scalar IM and twelve vector-valued IMs for seismic collapse assessment of structures. The vector-valued IMs consist of two components, with S a(T1) as the first component and different parameters that are ratios of scalar IMs, as well as the spectral shape proxies εSa and N p, as the second component. After investigating the properties of an optimal IM, a new vector-valued IM that includes the ratio of S a(T1) to the displacement spectrum intensity(DSI) as the second component is proposed. The new IM is more efficient than other IMs for predicting the collapse capacity of structures. It is also sufficient with respect to magnitude, source-to-site distance, and scale factor for collapse capacity prediction of structures. To satisfy the predictability criterion, a ground motion prediction equation(GMPE) is determined for S a(T1)/DSI by using the existing GMPEs. Furthermore, an empirical equation is proposed for obtaining the correlation between the components of the proposed IM. | 11 | Formation control of quad-rotor UAV via PIO显示文摘In this article, the formation control of quad-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) via pigeon inspired optimization(PIO) is designed. The nonlinear mathematical model of the quad-rotor UAV is used by applying algebraic graph theory and matrix analysis. A high order consistent formation control algorithm with fixed control topology is designed by using a position deviation matrix to describe its formation. To control the attitude of quad-rotor UAVs, it is difficult to obtain a set of optimal solutions, and hence a PIO based algorithm with variable weight hybridization is proposed. The algorithm is mainly composed of two parts. First, according to the distance between the particles in the iterative process, the inertia weight is dynamically changed,and the coefficient is adjusted to control the degree of influence on its inertia weight. | 13 | Enucleation and evisceration: indications, complications and clinicopathological correlations显示文摘·AIM: To assess main indications, postoperative complications and clinicopathological correlation of ocular enucleation-evisceration.·METHODS: A total of 107 subjects who underwent enucleation and/or evisceration and received hydroxyapatite implants(Scleral wrap or mesh) were assessed. For each patient clinicopathological data was collected which included demographic information,clinical history, primary clinical diagnosis, main cause of ophthalmic surgery(traumatic, non-traumatic), type of surgical procedure(enucleation, evisceration) and pathological report. Patients' postoperative clinical visits were checked for procedure-related complications during first year after surgery.·RESULTS: One hundred and seven patients(male:65.4%; mean age: 26y) underwent enucleation(n=100) or evisceration(n =7) due to traumatic(n =41) and non-traumatic(n =66) causes. Disfiguring painful blind eye was the most common indication of surgery(66.4%),followed by leukocoria(19.6%) and endophthalmitis(4.7%). The main types of injury included firecracker,traffic and work accidents, and sharp object perforating injury. In 53(80.3%) subjects in non-traumatic group the initial clinical diagnosis matched the histopathologicalresults. Malignant tumors(retinoblastoma: 47.5%,malignant melanoma: 27.3%) were the most common pathological diagnoses followed by phthisis bulbi(25.8%).The most common procedure-related complications were major eye discharge(39.6%), and implant exposure and discharge(20.8%).·CONCLUSION: Trauma and malignant tumors are the leading causes of enucleation-evisceration. | 15 | Retrospective analysis of complications related to endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography in patients with cirrhosis vs patients without cirrhosis显示文摘BACKGROUND There is minimal objective data regarding adverse events related to endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography(ERCP)in patients with cirrhosis compared to those without cirrhosis and even fewer data comparing complications among cirrhosis patients based on severity of cirrhosis.AIM To determine if patients with cirrhosis are at increased risk of adverse events related to ERCP:mainly pancreatitis,bleeding,perforation,cholangitis,and mortality;And to see if higher Child-Pugh(CP)score and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD)score are associated with higher post-ERCP complications.METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of 692 patients who underwent ERCP and analyzed the impact of cirrhosis etiology,gender,type of sedation used during procedure,interventions performed,and co-morbidities on the rate of complications in cirrhosis patients as compared to non-cirrhosis patients.RESULTS Overall complications were higher in those with cirrhosis as compared to those without cirrhosis(P=0.015 at significance level of 0.05).CP class,especially CP class C,was shown to be associated with a significantly higher rate of ERCP complications as compared to CP class A and CP class B(P=0.010 at significance level of 0.05).CONCLUSION The results of our study reaffirm that liver cirrhosis has an impact on the occurrence of complications during ERCP.Our study shows that CP class seems to be more reliable as compared to MELD score in predicting complications of ERCP in cirrhosis patients. | Michelle Bernshteyn Linda Hu Umair Masood Anuj Vikrant Sharma Danning Huang Bishnu Sapkota | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,4: | 3 |
| 16 | Hepatoprotective and Antioxidant Activity of Rhizome of Podophyllum hexandrum against Carbon Tetra Chloride Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats显示文摘Objective To test possible antioxidant activity of n-hexane extract of Podophyllum hexandrum under in vitro and in vivo conditions. Methods The in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by the ability of the extract to interact with the stable free radical DPPH, Superoxide (O2-), Hydroxyl (OH-), Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) radicals, and reducing power ability of the extract was also evaluated. Under in vivo conditions the extract was evaluated for its hepatoprotective activity by measuring different biochemical parameters, such as serum alanine aminotransaminase, serum aspartate aminotransaminase and serum lactate dehydrogenase and antioxidant enzymes. Antioxidant status was estimated by determining the activities of antioxidative enzymes, glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and by determining the levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Results Hexane extract of P. hexandrum exhibited good radical scavenging capacity in neutralization of DPPH, O2-, OH -, and H2O2 radicals in a dose dependent manner. n-hexane extract of Podophyllum hexandrum at the doses of 20, 30, and 50 mg/kg-day produced hepatoprotective effect by decreasing the activity of serum marker enzymes, while it significantly increased the levels of glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), super oxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) in a dose dependant manner. The effect of n-hexane extract was comparable to that of standard antioxidant vitamin E. | 17 | Dual solutions of MHD stagnation point flow and heat transfer over a stretching/shrinking sheet with generalized slip condition显示文摘An analysis was made to study the steady momentum and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous electrically conducting fluid near a stagnation point due to a stretching/shrinking sheet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field and generalized slip condition. Two flow problems corresponding to the planar and axisymmetric stretching/shrinking sheet were considered. By means of similarity transformations, the obtained resultant nonlinear ordinary differential equations were solved numerically using a shooting method for dual solutions of velocity and temperature profiles. Some important physical features of the flow and heat transfer in terms of the fluid velocity, the temperature distribution, the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number for various values of the controlling governing parameters like velocity slip parameter, critical shear rate, magnetic field, ratio of stretching/shrinking rate to external flow rate and Prandtl number were analyzed and discussed. An increase of the critical shear rate decreases the fluid velocity whereas the local Nusselt number increases. | 18 | 西洋蓍草提取物对糖尿病大鼠的β细胞保护活性及降糖、降脂作用(英文)显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the therapeutic uses of Achillea millifolium in diabetic rats.METHODS:Diabetes was induced bysingle intraperitoneal injection of freshly prepared solution of alloxan monohydrate(150 mg·kg.1 body weight) in Wistar rats of150.200 g body weight.In this study,the aqueous and methanolic extract of Achillea millifolium was studied for its hypoglycemic andhypolipidemic properties.The rats were divided into several groups,serving as Normal group,Diabetic Control group,Diabetictreated with glibenclamide,and extract treated groups.The blood serum collected from the various groups of rats was analysed for itsvarious biochemical parameters like glucose,cholesterol,triglycerides,VLDL,SGOT,SGPT and ALP.On the 14th day of the experimentthe rats were scarified and pancreas was collected for histopathological studies.RESULTS:The extracts at dose levels of 250and 500 mg·kg.1 body weight showed significant(P ≤ 0.05) decrease in blood glucose level,TGL,VLDL,cholesterol,SGOT,SGPT,and ALP in diabetic rats.The extracts prevented the β-cells of pancreas from the cytotoxic effects of Alloxan monohydrate.CONCLUSION:The results indicate that the extracts as mentioned above are effective in hyperglycemia and can effectively protectagainst other metabolic aberrations caused by alloxan monohydrate. | Khalid G.Mustafa Bashir A.Ganai Seema Akbar Mohamad Y.Dar Akbar Masood | 2012 | 中国天然药物2012,10,3: | 3 |
