1Near-diffraction-limited linearly polarized narrow-linewidth random fiber laser with record kilowatt output显示文摘In this paper, we propose and experimentally investigate a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth random fiber laser(RFL) operating at 1080 nm and boost the output power to kilowatt level with near-diffraction-limited beam quality using a master oscillation power amplifier. The RFL based on a half-opened cavity, which is composed of a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth fiber Bragg grating and a 500 m piece of polarization-maintained Ge-doped fiber, generates a 0.71 W seed laser with an 88 pm full width at half-maximum(FWHM) linewidth and a 22.5 dB polarization extinction ratio(PER) for power scaling. A two-stage fiber amplifier enhances the seed laser to the maximal 1.01 k W with a PER value of 17 dB and a beam quality of M_x^2=1.15 and M_y^2=1.13. No stimulated Brillouin scattering effect is observed at the ultimate power level, and the FWHM linewidth of the amplified random laser broadens linearly as a function of the output power with a coefficient of about 0.1237 pm∕W.To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth RFL with even kilowatt-level near-diffraction-limited output, and further performance scaling is ongoing.JIANGMING XU LONG HUANG MAN JIANG JUN YE PENGFEI MA JINYONG LENG JIAN WU HANWEI ZHANG PU ZHOU 2017Photonics Research2017,5,4:20

3Multifunctional polymeric micelle-based chemo-immunotherapy with immune checkpoint blockade for efficient treatment of orthotopic and metastatic breast cancer显示文摘Immunotherapy has become a highly promising paradigm for cancer treatment. Herein, a chemo-immunotherapy was developed by encapsulating chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin(DOX) and Toll-like receptor 7 agonist imiquimod(IMQ) in low molecular weight heparin(LMWH)-D-α-tocopheryl succinate(TOS) micelles(LT). In this process, LMWH and TOS were conjugated by ester bond and they were not only served as the hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments of the carrier, but also exhibited strong anti-metastasis effect. The direct killing of tumor cells mediated by DOX-loaded micelles(LT-DOX)generated tumor-associated antigens, initiating tumor-specific immune responses in combination with IMQ-loaded micelles(LT-IMQ). Furthermore, the blockade of immune checkpoint with programmed cell death ligand 1(PD-L1) antibody further elevated the immune responses by up-regulating the maturation of DCs as well as the ratios of CD8+ CTLs/Treg and CD4+ Teff/Treg. 4Seasonal variation of nitrogen and phosphorus in Xiaojiang River-A tributary of the Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘A yearlong monitoring program in the backwater area of Xiaojiang River(XBA)was launched in order to investigate the eutrophication of backwater areas in tributaries of the Yangtze River in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)in China,starting after the impoundment water level of the TGR reached 156 m.From March 2007 to March 2008,the average concentration of total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP)were(1553484)μg·L^(–1)and(6231)μg·L^(–1),respectively.The mean value of chlorophyll was(9.070.91)μg·L^(–1).The trophic level of XBA was meso-eutrophic,while the general nutrient limitation was phosphorus.The results indicated that XBA has a strong ability to purify itself and has non-point source pollution from terrestrial runoff.The variation of TN/TP ratio was caused by a variation in TN rather than in TP when TN/TP<22.N-fixation from cyanobacteria occurred and became an important process in overcoming the nitrogen deficit under a low TN/TP ratio.When TN/TP≥22,the variation of TP affected the TN/TP ratio more significantly than TN.The increase of TP in XBA was caused mainly by particulate phosphorus,which could originate from a non-point source as adsorptive inorganic forms after heavy rainfall and surface runoff.An increase in the river’s flow could also contribute to an unstable environment for the growth of phytoplankton.Zhe LI Jinsong GUO Man LONG Fang FANG Jinping SHENG Hong ZHOU 2009Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,3:8
5kW-level,narrow-linewidth linearly polarized fiber laser with excellent beam quality through compact one-stage amplification scheme显示文摘In this manuscript, we demonstrate high-power, narrow-linewidth linearly polarized fiber laser with excellent beam quality through compact one-stage amplification scheme. By employing a single-mode–multimode–single-mode structure seed laser, a linearly polarized Yb-doped fiber laser with narrow linewidth and high output power is achieved.This laser, when used as a master oscillator, can be capable of suppressing the ASE in the process of power amplification.Thus, only one-stage amplification structure is used to scale up the laser power, and linearly polarized output with a polarization extinction ration of 14 d B, a narrow linewidth of 0.3 nm and an output power of 1018 W are achieved.Moreover, due to the good beam quality of seed laser and the well-designed amplifier stage, the beam quality of the output laser is near-diffraction-limited with M_x^2 ~1.18 and M_y^2 ~ 1.24 at the maximum power, and without mode instability occurring.Man Jiang Pengfei Ma Long Huang Jiangming Xu Pu Zhou Xijia Gu 2017High Power Laser Science and Engineering2017,5,4:7

10Comparison of the oncological,perioperative and functional outcomes of partial nephrectomy versus radical nephrectomy for clinical T1b renal cell carcinoma:A systematic review and metaanalysis of retrospective studies显示文摘Objective:To conduct a meta-analysis assessing the perioperative,functional and oncological outcomes of partial nephrectomy(PN)and radical nephrectomy(RN)for T1b tumours.The primary endpoints were the oncological outcomes.The secondary endpoints were the perioperative and functional outcomes.Methods:A systematic literature review was performed by searching multiple databases through February 2019 to identify eligible comparative studies according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis statement.Identified reports were assessed according to the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for nonrandomized controlled trials.Results:Overall,13 retrospective cohort studies were included in the analysis.Patients undergoing PN were younger(weighted mean difference[WMD]3.49 years,95%confidence interval[CI]5.16 to1.82;p<0.0001)and had smaller masses(WMD0.45 cm,95%CI0.59 to0.31;p<0.0001).There were no differences in the oncological outcome,which was demonstrated by progression-free survival(hazard ratio[HR]0.70;pZ0.22),cancerspecific mortality(HR 0.91;pZ0.57)and all-cause mortality(HR 1.01;pZ0.96).The two procedures were similar in estimated blood loss(WMD16.47 mL;pZ0.53)and postoperative complications(risk ratio[RR]1.32;pZ0.10),and PN provided better renal function preservation and was related to a lower likelihood of chronic kidney disease onset(RR 0.38;pZ0.006).Conclusion:PN is an effective treatment for T1b tumours because it offers similar surgical morbidity,equivalent cancer control,and better renal preservation compared to RN.Yucong Zhang Gongwei Long Haojie Shang Beichen Ding Guoliang Sun Wei Ouyang Man Liu Yuan Chen Heng Li Hua Xu Zhangqun Ye 2021Asian Journal of Urology2021,8,1:4
11Ectopic expression of VRT-A2 underlies the origin of Triticum polonicum and Triticum petropavlovskyi with long outer glumes and grains显示文摘Polish wheat (Triticum polonicum) is a unique tetraploid wheat species characterized by an elongated outer glume. The genetic control of the long-glume trait by a single semi-dominant locus, P1 (from Polish wheat), was established more than 100 years ago, but the underlying causal gene and molecular nature remain elusive. Here, we report the isolation of VRT-A2, encoding an SVP-clade MADS-box transcription factor, as the P1 candidate gene. Genetic evidence suggests that in T. polonicum, a naturally occurring sequence rearrangement in the intron-1 region of VRT-A2 leads to ectopic expression of VRT-A2 in floral organs where the long-glume phenotype appears. Interestingly, we found that the intron-1 region is a key ON/OFF molecular switch for VRT-A2 expression, not only because it recruits transcriptional repressors, but also because it confers intron-mediated transcriptional enhancement. Genotypic analyses using wheat accessions indicated that the P1 locus is likely derived from a single natural mutation in tetraploid wheat, which was subsequently inherited by hexaploid T. petropavlovskyi. 12Association between Selenium in Soil and Diabetes in Chinese Residents Aged 35–74 Years:Results from the 2010 National Survey of Chronic Diseases and Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance显示文摘Objective To explore the association between soil selenium levels and the risk of diabetes in Chinese adults aged 35–74 years.Methods Data for this study were derived from the China Chronic Diseases and Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance 2010 survey.Selenium concentrations in soil were obtained from the Atlas of Soil Environmental Background Values in China.A two-level binary logistic regression model was used to determine the association between soil selenium concentrations and the risk of diabetes,with participants nested within districts/counties.Results A total of 69,332 participants aged 35–74 years,from 158 districts/counties were included in the analysis.Concentrations of selenium in soil varied greatly across the 158 districts/counties,with a median concentration of 0.219 mg/kg(IQR:0.185–0.248).The results showed that both Quartile 1(0.119–0.185 mg/kg)and Quartile 4(0.249–0.344 mg/kg)groups were positively associated with diabetes compared to a soil selenium concentration of 0.186–0.219 mg/kg(Quartile 2),crude odds ratios(ORs)(95%CI)were 1.227(1.003–1.502)and 1.280(1.048–1.563).The P values were 0.045 and 0.013,for Quartile 1 and Quartile 4 groups,respectively.After adjusting for all confounding factors of interest,the Quartile 1 group became non-significant,and the Quartile 4 group had an adjusted OR(95%CI)of 1.203(1.018–1.421)relative to the reference group(Quartile 2),the P values was 0.030.No significant results were seen for the Quartile 3 group(0.220–0.248 mg/kg)compared to the reference group.Conclusion Excessive selenium concentrations in soil could increase the risk of diabetes among Chinese adults aged 35–74 years.WANG Qi Qi YU Shi Cheng XU Cheng Dong LIU Jian Jun LI Yuan Qiu ZHANG Man Hui LONG Xiao Juan LIU Yun Ning BI Yu Fang ZHAO Wen Hua YAO Hong Yan 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,4:3
13Scoring the collective effects of SNPs: association of minor alleles with complex traits in model organisms显示文摘It has long been assumed that most parts of a genome and most genetic variations or SNPs are non-functional with regard to reproductive fitness.However,the collective effects of SNPs have yet to be examined by experimental science.We here developed a novel approach to examine the relationship between traits and the total amount of SNPs in panels of genetic reference populations.We identified the minor alleles(MAs)in each panel and the MA content(MAC)that each inbred strain carried for a set of SNPs with genotypes determined in these panels.MAC was nearly linearly linked to quantitative variations in numerous traits in model organisms,including life span,tumor susceptibility,learning and memory,sensitivity to alcohol and anti-psychotic drugs,and two correlated traits poor reproductive fitness and strong immunity.These results suggest that the collective effects of SNPs are functional and do affect reproductive fitness.YUAN DeJian ZHU ZuoBin TAN XiaoHua LIANG Jie ZENG Chen ZHANG JieGen CHEN Jun MA Long DOGAN Ayca BROCKMANN Gudrun GOLDMANN Oliver MEDINA Eva RICE Amanda D. 15Zinc-finger protein GmZF351 improves both salt and drought stress tolerance in soybean显示文摘Abiotic stress is one of the most important factors reducing soybean yield. It is essential to identify regulatory factors contributing to stress responses.A previous study found that the tandem CCCH zincfinger protein Gm ZF351 is an oil level regulator. In this study, we discovered that the Gm ZF351 gene is induced by stress and that the overexpression of Gm ZF351 confers stress tolerance to transgenic soybean. Gm ZF351 directly regulates the expression of Gm CIPK9 and Gm SnRK, leading to stomata closing, by binding to their promoter regions, which carry two CT(G/C)(T/A)AA elements.Stress induction of Gm ZF351 is mediated through reduction in the H3K27me3 level at the Gm ZF351locus.TwoJMJ30-demethylase-likegenes,Gm JMJ30-1 and Gm JMJ30-2, are involved in this demethylationprocess.Overexpressionof Gm JMJ30-1/2 in transgenic hairy roots enhances Gm ZF351 expression mediated by histone demethylation and confers stress tolerance to soybean.Yield-related agronomic traits were evaluated in stable Gm ZF351-transgenic plants under mild drought stress conditions. Our study reveals a new mode of Gm JMJ30-Gm ZF351 action in stress tolerance, in addition to that of Gm ZF351 in oil accumulation. 20Dietary analysis of the House Swift(Apus nipalensis)in Hong Kong using prey DNA in faecal samples显示文摘Background:To understand the dietary composition of the highly aerial swift(Apodidae),ecologists conventionally depend on the morphological identification of prey items from food boluses or stomach contents,but these techniques are often invasive,require expertise in identification,and often cannot produce accurate identifications at the species level.Methods:DNA barcoding was used to analyse the dietary composition of House Swifts(Apus nipalensis)in Hong Kong,China.Faecal samples from five different colonial nest sites were collected between 2019 and 2020.We used universal primers to amplify a region of the cytochrome C oxidase gene from prey DNA in the faecal samples for identification purposes.Results:Ten different orders and 44 families from three different classes of Arthropoda were identified in the collected faecal samples.Hymenoptera,Hemiptera and Diptera were the most prevalent groups of prey found in the samples.Differences in the dietary composition of House Swifts during the breeding(April to September)and nonbreeding(October to March)season were also found.Hymenoptera,particularly ants(Formicidae),were predominant in the diet during the breeding season,whereas Diptera and Hemiptera were predominant during the non-breeding season.Conclusion:The prey groups identified in this study were similar to those identified in a previous study of the diet of House Swift,which also suggests a possible role of House Swifts in reducing the numbers of local insect pests.This study demonstrates the usefulness of applying molecular tools for the dietary analysis of aerial feeders.Conserving local forested areas may be crucial for the maintenance of House Swift population.Chun Ting Chung Hok Sze Wong Man Long Kwok Qi Meng King Ming Chan 2021Avian Research2021,12,1:1
