| 1 | Efficacy and advantages of modified Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments based on'kidney reinforcing'for chronic aplastic ane-mia:a randomized controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To compare the efficacy of modified treatments based on 'kidney reinforcing' in the management of chronic aplastic anemia(CAA),and explore their advantages and specialties.METHODS:One hundred and eleven patients with CAA were randomly divided into three groups:kidney reinforcing alone(KA),'kidney reinforcing and Qi tonifying'(KQ),and 'kidney reinforcing and blood circulation invigorating'(KC).Normal and positive control groups were also formed.All patients were treated for 6 months(two courses).Hemograms,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome scores,and therapeutic effects were assessed,and changes in T-lymphocyte subsets,regulatory T cells and cytokines were detected.RESULTS:The KQ and KC groups had lower TCM syndrome scores than the positive control group after 6 months(P < 0.05).The KQ group had a higher overall efficacy than the positive control group after 3 months(P < 0.05),while platelet counts increased in the KC group after 6 months(P < 0.05).CD3+ T-lymphocyte ratios decreased only in the KQ group,while CD3 + CD4 + CD8-Tlymphocytes increased only in the KC group after 6 months(P <0.05).Levels of interferon-γ,tumor necrosis fac-tor-α,interleukin(IL)-2 and IL-6 decreased and levels of IL-4 and IL-10 increased in all treated groups after 6 months.Levels of IL-6 in the KQ and KC groups were lower than those in the positive control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:Treatments based on kidney reinforcing have a rebalancing effect on cytotoxic and T helper cells,and regulate expression of interferon-γ,IL-2,IL-6 and IL-4.KQ may be more effective in treating CAA,and KC may have an advantage in platelet recovery. | Wu Dijiong Shen Yiping Ye Baodong Fang Bingmu Lin Shengyun Chen Zhilu Jiang Huifang Feng Changwei He Lüyuan Gao Yanting Liu Yonglin Liu Yonghua Zhu Jiajia Wu Liqiang Shao Keding Zhou Yuhong | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,4: | 6 |
| 2 | Design and baseline data of a populationbased metabonomics study of eye diseases in eastern China: the Yueqing Ocular Diseases Investigation显示文摘Background:China is undergoing a massive transition toward an urban and industrial economy.These changes will restructure the demographics and economy which will eventually influence the future patterns of disease.The risk factors of vision-impairing eye diseases remain ambiguous and poorly understood.Metabolomics is an ideal tool to understand and shed light on the ocular disease mechanisms for earlier treatment.This article aims to describe the design,methodology and baseline data of the Yueqing Ocular Diseases Investigation(YODI),a developed county population-based study to determine the prevalence and primary causes of visual impairment;also with metabonomics analysis we aimed to identify,predict and suggest some preventive biomarkers that cause blindness.Methods:A population-based,cross-sectional study.Randomized clustering sampling was used to identify adults aged 50 years and older in Xiangyang Town,Yueqing county-level City.The interviews covered demographic,behavioral,ocular risk factors and mental health state.The ocular examination included visual acuity,autorefraction,intraocular pressure,anterior and posterior segment examinations,fundus photography,retinal tomography and angiography,and visual field testing.Anthropometric measurements included height and weight,waist and hip circumference,blood pressure,pulse rate,electrocardiogram,and abdominal ultrasound scan.A venous blood sample was collected for laboratory tests and metabonomics studies.Results:Of the 5319 individuals recruited for the YODI,4769(89.7%)subjects were enrolled for analyses.The median age was 62.0 years,and 45.6%were male.The educational level of illiteracy or semi-illiteracy,primary,middle and high school or above was 29.8%,45.5%,20.1%,and 3.3%,respectively.Majority of the participants were female,younger,and less educated when compared with nonparticipants.The average body mass index and waist-hip ratios were 24.4±3.4 kg/m^(2) and 0.9±0.1 respectively.Blood sample collection reached a sample size of 1909(479 from subjects with selfreported diabetes and 1430 from one-third of the 4290 subjects without self-reported diabetes).Conclusions:The YODI provides population-based data with a high response rate(89.7%)on the prevalence and primary causes of major vision-impairing eye diseases in developed county areas in eastern China.Metabonomics analysis from YODI will provide further association of metabolic characteristics with the visual impairment eye diseases.The risk prediction model could be created and has the potential to be generalized to developed eastern areas in China for prevention. | Yuxuan Deng Yuanbo Liang Sigeng Lin Liang Wen Jin Li Yue Zhou Meixiao Shen Jingwei Zheng Kemi Feng Yanting Sun Kwapong Willaim Robert Jia Qu Fan Lu | 2020 | Eye and Vision2020,7,1: | 4 |

| 12 | A New Species of Genus Fomitiporia显示文摘[Objectives] This study aimed to study the morphological characteristics and molecular phylogeny of a new strain collected from rotten wood of sea buckthorn in Yanbei area of Shanxi Province. [Methods]The specimens were observed with naked eyes. With Melzer,cotton blue and 5% KOH as floating carriers,the slices were prepared,which were observed under a microscope. The ITS sequence of the new strain was compared with those of the 20 kinds of reported fungi to construct molecular phylogenetic tree based on ITS. [Results] The new strain has horseshoe-shaped basidiocarp and pileus shape and has no stipe. Sometimes,it grows procumbently and scrolled backward. The mycelial system is monomitic. The skeletal hyphae showed a negative reaction in the Melzer reagent and cotton blue reagent. The basidiospores are subglobose or spherical and colorless with thick wall. The results of molecular phylogenetic analysis showed that the new strain had a close relationship with Fomitiporia spp. and was clustered into the same branch with them. It formed an independent sub-branch in the phylogenetic tree. [Conclusions] The new strain was identified as a new species of Fomitiporia,named as Fomitiporia yanbeiensis S. Guo & L. | 18 | Deep learning quantified mucus-tumor ratio predicting survival of patients with colorectal cancer using whole-slide images显示文摘Background:In colorectal cancer(CRC),mucinous adenocarcinoma differs from other adenocarcinomas in gene-phenotype,morphology,and prognosis.However,mucinous components are present in a large number of adenocarcinomas,and the prognostic value of mucus proportion has not been investigated.Artificial intelligence provides a way to quantify mucus proportion on whole-slide images(WSIs)accurately.We aimed to quantify mucus proportion by deep learning and further investigate its prognostic value in two CRC patient cohorts.Methods:Deep learning was used to segment WSIs stained with hematoxylin and eosin.Mucus-tumor ratio(MTR)was defined as the proportion of mucinous component in the tumor area.A training cohort(N=419)and a validation cohort(N=315)were used to evaluate the prognostic value of MTR.Survival analysis was performed using the Cox proportional hazard model.Result:Patients were stratified tomucus-low andmucus-high groups,with 24.1%as the threshold.In the training cohort,patients with mucus-high had unfavorable outcomes(hazard ratio for high vs.low 1.88,95%confidence interval 1.18–2.99,P=0.008),with 5-year overall survival rates of 54.8%and 73.7%in mucus-high and mucus-lowgroups,respectively.The resultswere confirmed in the validation cohort(2.09,1.21–3.60,0.008;62.8%vs.79.8%).The prognostic value of MTR was maintained in multivariate analysis for both cohorts.Conclusion:The deep learning quantified MTR was an independent prognostic factor in CRC.With the advantages of advanced efficiency and high consistency,our method is suitable for clinical application and promotes precision medicine development. | Ke Zhao Lin Wu Yanqi Huang Su Yao Zeyan Xu Huan Lin Huihui Wang Yanting Liang Yao Xu Xin Chen Minning Zhao Jiaming Peng Yuli Huang Changhong Liang Zhenhui Li Yong Li Zaiyi Liu | 2021 | Precision Clinical Medicine2021,4,1: | 0 |

| 20 | Genome degradation promotes Salmonella pathoadaptation by remodeling fimbriae-mediated proinflammatory response显示文摘Understanding changes in pathogen behavior(e.g.increased virulence,a shift in transmission channel)is critical for the public health management of emerging infectious diseases.Genome degradation via gene depletion or inactivation is recognized as a pathoadaptive feature of the pathogen evolving with the host.However,little is known about the exact role of genome degradation in affecting pathogenic behavior,and the underlying molecular detail has yet to be examined.Using large-scale global avian-restricted Salmonella genomes spanning more than a century,we projected the genetic diversity of Salmonella Pullorum(bvSP)by showing increasingly antimicrobial-resistant ST92 prevalent in Chinese flocks.The phylogenomic analysis identified three lineages in bvSP,with an enhancement of virulence in the two recently emerged lineages(L2/L3),as evidenced in chicken and embryo infection assays.Notably,the ancestor L1 lineage resembles the Salmonella serovars with higher metabolic flexibilities and more robust environmental tolerance,indicating stepwise evolutionary trajectories towards avian-restricted lineages.Pan-genome analysis pinpointed fimbrial degradation from a virulent lineage.The later engineeredfim-deletion mutant,and all other five fimbrial systems,revealed behavior switching that restricted horizontal fecal-oral transmission but boosted virulence in chicks.By depleting fimbrial appendages,bvSP established persistent replication with less proinflammation in chick macrophages and adopted vertical transovarial transmission,accompanied by ever-increasing intensification in the poultry industry.Together,we uncovered a previously unseen paradigm for remodeling bacterial surface appendages that supplements virulence-enhanced evolution with increased vertical transmission. | Xiao Zhou Xiamei Kang Jiaqi Chen Yan Song Chenghao Jia Lin Teng Yanting Tang Zhijie Jiang Xianqi Peng Xiaoxi Tao Yiwei Xu Linlin Huang Xuebin Xu Yaohui Xu Tengfei Zhang Shenye Yu Jiansen Gong Shaohui Wang Yuqing Liu Guoqiang Zhu Corinna Kehrenberg Franois-Xavier Weill Paul Barrow Yan Li Guoping Zhao Min Yue | 2023 | National Science Review2023,10,10: | 0 |
