Puerarin partly counteracts the inflammatory response after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion via activating the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway显示文摘Puerarin,a major isoflavonoid derived from the Chinese medical herb radix puerariae(Gegen),has been reported to inhibit neuronal apoptosis and play an anti-inflammatory role in focal cerebra ischemia model rats.Recent findings regarding stroke pathophysiology have recognized that anti-inflammation is an important target for the treatment of ischemic stroke. The cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway is a highly robust neural-immune mechanism for inflammation control This study was to investigate whether activating the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway can be involved in the mechanism of inhibiting the inflammatory response during puerarin-induced cerebra ischemia/reperfusion in rats. Results showed that puerarin pretreatment(intravenous injection)reduced the ischemic infarct volume, improved neurological deficit after cerebra ischemia/reperfusion and decreased the levels of interleukin-1β,interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-αin brain tissue.Pretreatment with puerarin(intravenous injection)attenuated the inflammatory response in rats, which was accompanied by janus-activated kinase 2(JAK2)and signal transducers and activators of transcription 3(STAT3)activation and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)inhibition.These observations were inhibited by the alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine recepto(α7nAchR)antagonistα-bungarotoxin(α-BGT).In addition, puerarin pretreatment increased the expression ofα7nAchR mRNA in ischemic cerebral tissue. These data demonstrate that puerarin pretreatment strongly protects the brain against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and inhibits the inflammatory response. Our results also indicated that the anti-inflammatory effect of puerarin may partly be mediated through the activation of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway.Xiaojie Liu Zhigang Mei Jingping Qian Yongbao Zeng Mingzhi Wang 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,34:39
Spinal cord biological safety of image-guided radiation therapy versus conventional radiation therapy显示文摘Tumor models were simulated in purebred Beagles at the T9-10 levels of the spinal cord and treated with spinal image-guided radiation therapy or conventional radiation therapy with 50 or 70 Gy total radiation. Three months after radiation, neuronal injury at the T9-10 levels was observed, including reversible injury induced by spinal image-guided radiation therapy and apoptosis induced by conventional radiation therapy. The number of apoptotic cells and expression of the proapoptotic protein Fas were significantly reduced, but expression of the anti-apoptotic protein heat shock protein 70 was significantly increased after image-guided radiation therapy compared with the conventional method of the same radiation dose. Moreover, the spinal cord cell apoptotic index positively correlated with the ratio of Fas/heat shock protein 70. These findings indicate that 3 months of radiation therapy can induce a late response in the spinal cord to radiation therapy; image-guided radiation therapy is safer and results in less neuronal injury compared with conventional radiation therapy.Wanlong Xu Xilinbaoleri Hao Liu Ruozheng Wang Jingping Bai 2012Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,35:23

Segmentation of Hematoxylin-Eosin stained breast cancer histopathological images based on pixel-wise SVM classifier显示文摘Hematoxylin-Eosin(HE) staining is the routine diagnostic method for breast cancer(BC), and large amounts of HE stained histopathological images are available for analysis. It is emergent to develop computational methods to efficiently and objectively analyze these images, with the aim of providing potentially better diagnostic and prognostic information for BC. This work focuses on analyzing our in-house HE stained histopathological images of breast cancer tissues. Since tumor nests(TNs) and stroma morphological characteristics can reflect the biological behaviors of breast invasive ductal carcinoma(IDC), accurate segmentation of TNs and the stroma is the first step towards the subsequent quantitative analysis. We first propose a method based on the pixel-wise support vector machine(SVM) classifier for segmenting TNs and the stroma, then extract four morphological characters related to the TNs from the images and investigate their relationships with the patients' 8-year disease free survival(8-DFS). The evaluation result shows that the classification based segmentation method is able to distinguish between TNs and stroma with 87.1% accuracy and 80.2% precision, suggesting that the proposed method is promising in segmenting HE stained IDC histopathological images. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves show that three morphological characters(number of TNs, total perimeter, and average area of TNs) in the images have statistical correlations with 8-DFS of the patients, illustrating that the segmented images can help to identify new morphological factors in IDC TNs for the prediction of BC prognosis.QU AiPing CHEN JiaMei WANG LinWei YUAN JingPing YANG Fang XIANG QingMing MASKEY Ninu YANG GuiFang LIU Juan LI Yan 2015Science China(Information Sciences)2015,58,9:12
Shuganjieyu capsule increases neurotrophic factor expression in a rat model of depression显示文摘Shuganjieyu capsule has been approved for clinical treatment by the State Food and Drug Administration of China since 2008. In the clinic, Shuganjieyu capsule is often used to treat mild to moderate depression. In the rat model of depression established in this study, Shuganjieyu capsule was administered intragastrically daily before stress. Behavioral results confirmed that depressive symptoms lessened after treatment with high-dose(150 mg/kg) Shuganjieyu capsule. Immunohistochemistry results showed that high-dose Shuganjieyu capsule significantly increased phosphorylation levels of phosphorylation cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in the medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampal CA3 area. Overall, our results suggest that in rats, Shuganjieyu capsule effectively reverses depressive-like behaviors by increasing expression levels of neurotrophic factors in the brain.Jinhua Fu Yingjin Zhang Renrong Wu Yingjun Zheng Xianghui Zhang Mei Yang Jingping Zhao Yong Liu 2014Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,5:10
Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 06Cr13Ni4Mo Steel Treated by Quenching–Tempering–Partitioning Process显示文摘A heat treatment process,quenching-tempering-partitioning(Q-T-P),has been applied to a low carbon martensitic stainless steel 06Cr13Ni4 Mo.By using this process, ultrafine reversed austenite can be obtained at room temperature. The microstructures of the reversed austenite and the martensite matrix were characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)in detail. The results show that the ultrafine reversed austenite is enriched in Ni resulting in the austenite stability at room temperature. Two new types of nano-scale carbide precipitates are found in the martensite matrix.Detailed analysis suggests that the two nano-scale precipitates can be identified asω phase and λ phase carbides, respectively. The orientation relationship between the ω phase and matrix is[011]α//[2110]ω and(211)α//(0110)ω,while that between the λ phase precipitate and matrix is[011]α//[0001]λ and(200)α//(1210)λ.For the present steel, the ultrafine reversed austenite and carbide precipitates obtained by Q-T-P treatment provide a good combination of high strength and toughness.Yuanyuan Song Jingping Cui Lijian Rong 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,2:8
Bacterial Diversity of Gut Content in Sea Cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus) and Its Habitat Surface Sediment显示文摘This study investigated the bacterial diversity of gut content of sea cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus) and its habitat surface sediment in a bottom enhancement area using PCR-based denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE) technique. Bacterial diversity evaluation showed that the value of the Shannon-Wiener index of gut content in different intestinal segments of A. japonicus varied between 2.88 and 3.00, lower than that of the surrounding sediment(3.23). Phylogenetic analysis showed that bacterial phylotypes in gut content and the surrounding sediment of A. japonicus were closely related to Proteobacteria includingγ-, α-, δ-and ε-proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicute, and Actinobacteria, of which γ-proteobacteria were predominant. These results suggested that the sea cucumber A. japonicus was capable of feeding selectively, and PCR-DGGE was applicable for characterizing the bacterial community composition in gut content and the surrounding sediment of sea cucumber. Further investigation targeting longer 16S rDNA gene fragments and/or functional genes was recommended for obtaining more information of the diversity and function of bacterial community in the gut content of sea cucumber.GAO Fei TAN Jie SUN Huiling YAN Jingping 2014Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,2:8

Object-based image analysis for mapping geomorphic zones of coral reefs in the Xisha Islands, China显示文摘Mapping regional spatial patterns of coral reef geomorphology provides the primary information to understand the constructive processes in the reef ecosystem. However, this work is challenged by the pixel-based image classification method for its comparatively low accuracy. In this paper, an object-based image analysis(OBIA)method was presented to map intra-reef geomorphology of coral reefs in the Xisha Islands, China using Landsat 8satellite imagery. Following the work of the Millennium Coral Reef Mapping Project, a regional reef class hierarchy with ten geomorphic classes was first defined. Then, incorporating the hierarchical concept and integrating the spectral and additional spatial information such as context, shape and contextual relationships, a large-scale geomorphic map was produced by OBIA with accuracies generally more than 80%. Although the robustness of OBIA has been validated in the applications of coral reef mapping from individual reefs to reef system in this paper, further work is still required to improve its transferability.XU Jingping ZHAO Jianhua LI Fang WANG Lin SONG Derui WEN Shiyong WANG Fei GAO Ning 2016Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,12:7
Hilbert Transferin Applied to Separation of Waves显示文摘The analytical method (AM) for separation of composite waves is presented based on the Hilbert transform. It is ap-plicable to both regular and irregular trains of waves. The wave data series measured with two wave gauges in the experi-ments are separated into two series of incident and reflected waves. Then, the reflection coefficient can be easily ob-tained. The arrival of reflected waves can also be detected for improvement of the accuracy of the reflection coefficient. The reflection performance of the physical model can be estimated exactly without calculation of wave height and phasedifference. Numerical samples developed to test the method are proved to be accurate. Physical experiments are conduct-ed and compared with Goda's method and satisfactory results are obtained.SUN Hequan(孙鹤泉) WANG Yongxue(王永学) PENG Jingping(彭静萍) 2002China Ocean Engineering2002,17,2:7
Emodin attenuates severe acute pancreatitis-associated acute lung injury by suppressing pancreatic exosome-mediated alveolar macrophage activation显示文摘Severe acute pancreatitis-associated acute lung injury(SAP-ALI) is a serious disease associated with high mortality. Emodin has been applied to alleviate SAP-ALI;however, the mechanism remains unclear. We report that the therapeutic role of emodin in attenuating SAP-ALI is partly dependent on an exosomal mechanism. SAP rats had increased levels of plasma exosomes with altered protein contents compared to the sham rats. These infused plasma exosomes tended to accumulate in the lungs and promoted the hyper-activation of alveolar macrophages and inflammatory damage. Conversely, emodin treatment decreased the plasma/pancreatic exosome levels in the SAP rats. Emodin-primed exosomes showed less pro-inflammatory effects in alveolar macrophages and lung tissues than SAP exosomes. In detail, emodin-primed exosomes suppressed the NF-κB pathway to reduce the activation of alveolar macrophage and ameliorate lung inflammation by regulating PPARγ pathway, while these effects were amplified/abolished by PPARγ agonist/antagonist. Blockage of pancreatic acinar cell exosome biogenesis also exhibited suppression of alveolar macrophage activation and reduction of lung inflammation. This study suggests a vital role of exosomes in participating inflammation-associated organ-injury,and indicates emodin can attenuate SAP-ALI by reducing the pancreatic exosome-mediated alveolar macrophage activation.Qian Hu Jiaqi Yao Xiajia Wu Juan Li Guixiang Li Wenfu Tang Jingping Liu Meihua Wan 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,10:7
Understanding the structural evolution of Au/WO_(2.7) compounds in hydrogen atmosphere by atomic scale in situ environmental TEM显示文摘Hydrogen energy is a resuscitated clean energy source and its sensitive detection in air is crucial due to its very low explosive limit.Metal oxide decorated with noble metal nanoparticles has been used for the enhancement of gas detection and exhibits superior sensitivity.Understanding the intrinsic mechanism of the detection and the enhancement mechanism is thus becoming a fundamental issue for the further development of novel metal/oxide compound gas-sensing materials. However, the correlation between the microstructural evolution, the charge transport and the complex sensing process has not yet been directly revealed and its atomic mechanism is still debatable. In this study,an Au/WO_(2.7) compound was synthesized and exhibited a strongly enhanced gas sensitivity to many reductive gases, especially H2.Aberration-corrected environmental transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the atomic-scale microstructural evolution in situ during the reaction between H_(2) and Au/WO_(2.7) compound.Swing and sintering processes of the Au particles on the WO_(2.7) surface were observed under heating and gaseous environments, and no injection of hydrogen atoms was suggested.First principle calculations verified the swing and sintering processes, and they can be explained by the enhancement of H2 sensitivity.Fei Hui Chong Li Yanhui Chen Chunhui Wang Jingping Huang Ang Li Wei Li Jin Zou Xiaodong Han 2020Nano Research2020,13,11:6
STAT3 mediates resistance of CD44^+CD24^(-/low) breast cancer stem cells to tamoxifen in vitro显示文摘We sought to determine whether STAT3 mediated tamoxifen resistance of breast cancer stem cells in vitro. The capacities for mammosphere formation and STAT3 expression of CD44+CD24-/low MCF-7 and MCF-7 were observed. The CD44+CD24-/low subpopulation ratio and its sensitivity to adriamycin were analyzed in MCF-7 and TAM resistant(TAM-R) cells.Cell cycle,apoptosis,STAT3 and phospho-STAT3 changes were observed af-ter treatment with tamoxifen.Small interference RNA-mediated knockdown of STAT3 in TAM-R cells was also performed.CD44+CD24-/low MCF-7 showed higher capacities for mammosphere formation and STAT3 expression than total MCF-7.The CD44+CD24-/low subpopulation was also upregulated in TAM-R cells with less sensitivity to adriamycin than MCF-7.Cell cycle changes,anti-apoptotic effects and STAT3 changes were also found.Mean-while,the knock-down of STAT3 in TAM-R resulted in an increase in sensitivity to tamoxifen. It is concluded that STAT3 plays an essential role in breast cancer stem cells, which correlated with tamoxifen resistance.Xiaoyan Wang Guozhu Wang Yi Zhao Xiaoan Liu Qiang Ding Jingping Shi Yin Ding Shui Wang 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,5:6
Study of SAR imaging with COMPASS signal显示文摘A concept of space-surface bistatic synthetic aperture radar (SS-BSAR) passive imaging system is proposed, which is parasitic on the signal of COMPASS Navigation Satellite System (CNSS).The feasibility is demonstrated by analyzing the signal ambiguity function and the range resolution as well as the system topology.Due to the multiple peaks of signal in the auto-correlation function,a new correlation is used to remove the side-peaks.A double-channel receiver is employed to receive the direct satellite signal and the ground reflected signal. The direct signal is a reference signal in range compression, and may also be used for transmitter-receiver signal synchronization. The reflected signal is raw data collected for imaging. Then,a modified range-Doppler imaging algorithm is derived based on the system geometric models and BSAR imaging principle. The proposed algorithm is verified via signal simulation. The work in this paper is of great value to the further use of COMPASS signal,as well as other global navigation satellite signals in passive imaging.YE JiHai JIANG YueSong ZHAO JiZhi GUO JingPing 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,6:5
Phytoplankton Assemblage Structure Shaped by Key Environmental Variables in the Pearl River Estuary, South China显示文摘Spatial distribution and temporal dynamics of phytoplankton community and their relationships with environmental factors were studied in the Pearl River Estuary(PRE), South China, in three seasons. Salinity was considered as the key environmental variable controlling horizontal distributions of phytoplankton community composition. A transition from dominance of freshwater diatoms(Aulacoseira granulata and A. granulata v. angustissima) to estuarine species(Skeletonema costatum and Pseudonitzschia delicatissima) was observed in the high flow season(summer) along the estuary gradient; in the low flow season(spring), the inner estuary was relatively homogeneous and some typical estuarine species could be found near the river mouth. In the normal flow season(autumn), a potentially toxic bluegreen species, Microcystis spp. was predominant in the middle reaches of the estuary, which should be seeded from upstream and transported downstream by river discharges. Phytoplankton abundance was negatively correlated with suspended solid content and nutrient concentration in the PRE, suggesting that turbidity and nutrient availability were the crucial factors regulating the algal biomass. Phytoplankton abundance in the outer estuary was enhanced by increasing irradiance and continued to be enhanced until phosphorus-limitation.ZHANG Xia ZHANG Jingping HUANG Xiaoping HUANG Liangmin 2014Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,1:5
Research on allocation efficiency of the redistributed pseudo inverse algorithm显示文摘Allocation efficiency is an important performance index to measure the quality of the allocation algorithm. In order to compute the efficiency, the volume of the subset of attainable moments must be solved. The efficiency of the redistributed pseudo inverse (RPI) algorithm depends on the choice of the pseudo-inverse matrix. The subset of attainable moments of RPI is a complex non-convex polyhedron. By analyzing twodimensional and three-dimensional allocation problems with a 'micro-element' method, here we propose an approximate calculation algorithm to compute the volume of the non-convex polyhedron. In order to improve the allocation efficiency of RPI, genetic algorithm is used to find the best pseudo-inverse matrix. The simulation results show that the best pseudo-inverse matrix can be easily chosen by the proposed method and the high allocation efficiency is achieved.SHI JingPing , ZHANG WeiGuo, LI GuangWen & LIU XiaoXiong School of Automation, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an 710072, China 2010Science China(Information Sciences)2010,53,2:4
Atypical features and treatment choices in bipolar disorders:a result of the National Bipolar Mania Pathway Survey in China显示文摘In this study,we examined the point prevalence rate of atypical features in bipolar disorder, and estimated the potential impact of these features on treatment practices in China. Using the atypical features criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association(DSM-IV),we documented the atypical symptoms in 3 906 consecutive participants with bipolar disorder enrolled at 26 psychiatric services across China. We further assessed the association between atypical features and the treatment approaches, including the prescription of antidepressants. The overall point prevalence rate of atypical features was 9.1% among patients with various bipolar disorder subtypes. When the definition was broadened to include atypical features B,the overall rate increased to 11.8%. Interestingly, among patients with the mixed state and remission subtypes, there was a significant difference in the rates of antidepressant medication usage between patients who met and those who did not meet the criteria for atypical features B. These fi ndings indicate a trend of using antidepressants for these two types of patients with atypical features. Further, for both mixed state and remission patients, treatment approaches were related to atypicalfeatures B. Our findings provide evidence to assist clinicians to readily recognize atypical features in bipolar subtypes and can propose treatments based on these diagnoses.Daihui Peng Ting Shen Linda Byrne Chen Zhang Yueqi Huang Xin Yu Jingping Zhao Marita McCabe David Mellor Yiru Fang 2015Neuroscience Bulletin2015,31,1:4
Two-dimensional Pd-based nanomaterials for bioapplications显示文摘Noble metal nanomaterials have been extensively explored in cancer diagnostic and therapeutic applications owing to their unique physical and chemical properties, such as facile synthesis, straightforward surface functionalization, strong photothermal effect, and excellent biocompatibility. Herein, we summarize the recent development of two-dimensional(2D) Pd-based nanomaterials and their applications in cancer diagnosis and therapy. Different synthetic strategies for Pd nanosheets and the related nanostructures, including Pd@Au, Pd@Ag nanoplates and mesocrystalline Pd nanocorolla, are first discussed.Together with their unique properties, the potential bioapplications of these 2D Pd nanomaterials are then demonstrated. With strong absorption in near-infrared(NIR) region, these nanomaterials have great potentials in cancer photothermal therapy(PTT). They also readily act as contrast agents in photoacoustic(PA) imaging or X-ray computed tomography(CT) to achieve image-guided cancer therapy. Moreover, significant efforts have been devoted to studying the combination of PTT and other treatment modalities(e.g., chemotherapy or photodynamic therapy) based on Pd nanomaterials. The remarkable synergistic or collaborative effects to achieve better therapeutic efficacy are discussed as well. Additionally, the biosafety of 2D Pd-based nanomaterials in vitro and in vivo was evaluated. Finally, challenges for the applications of Pd-based nanomaterials in cancer diagnosis and therapy, and future research prospects are highlighted.Xiaolan Chen Saige Shi Jingping wei Mei Chen Nanfeng Zheng 2017Science Bulletin2017,62,8:4
Dynamics of nonstructural carbohydrates in seagrass Thalassia hemprichii and its response to shading显示文摘A field survey was performed to examine nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) dynamics in seagrass Thalassia hemprichii at the Xincun Bay in southern China. An indoor experiment to investigate the response of NSC in T. hemprichii to shade was conducted. Belowground tissue of T. hemprichii was the dominant site of NSC reserves, and soluble sugar was the primary storage compound. The starch content of belowground tissue was lower in high intertidal areas than in low intertidal areas, indicating that the longer air exposure in high intertidal areas resulted in less NSC synthesis and less accumulation of NSC in T. hemprichii. The lowest level of soluble sugar and its proportion to NSC in belowground tissue were observed near the cage culture area, where the nutrient concentration in water and sediment was the highest; while the highest level of that was observed near the coastal shrimp farm, where salinity was the lowest. Soluble sugar in belowground tissue showed the following trend: summer>spring>winter>autumn. This corresponded to seasonal changes in the intensity of light. Leaf sugar accumulated during the autumn-winter period, providing a carbon and energy source for flower bud formation and seed germination. Short-term shading decreased NSC accumulation. Collectively, these results suggest that nutrient enrichment, freshwater discharge and exposure to air affect NSC dynamics in T. hemprichii. Light intensity, flower bud formation, and seed germination were all found to induce seasonal variations in NSC in T. hemprichii.JIANG Zhijian HUANG Xiaoping ZHANG Jingping 2013Acta Oceanologica Sinica2013,32,8:4
Leaching of dissolved organic matter from seagrass leaf litter and its biogeochemical implications显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM) represents a significant source of nutrients that supports the microbial-based food web in seagrass ecosystems. However, there is little information on how the various fractions of DOM from seagrass leaves contributed to the coastal biogeochemical cycles. To address this gap, we carried out a 30-day laboratory chamber experiment on tropical seagrasses Thalassia hemprichii and Enhalus acoroides. After 30 days of incubation, on average 22% carbon(C), 70% nitrogen(N) and 38% phosphorus(P) of these two species of seagrass leaf litter was released. The average leached dissolved organic carbon(DOC), dissolved organic nitrogen(DON) and dissolved organic phosphorus(DOP) of these two species of seagrass leaf litter accounted for 55%, 95% and 65% of the total C, N and P lost, respectively. In the absence of microbes, about 75% of the total amount of DOC, monosaccharides(MCHO), DON and DOP were quickly released via leaching from both seagrass species in the first 9 days. Subsequently, little DOM was released during the remainder of the experiment. The leaching rates of DOC, DON and DOP were approximately 110, 40 and 0.70 μmol/(g·d). Leaching rates of DOM were attributed to the nonstructural carbohydrates and other labile organic matter within the seagrass leaf. Thalassia hemprichii leached more DOC, DOP and MCHO than E. acoroides. In contrast, E. acoroides leached higher concentrations of DON than T. hemprichii, with the overall leachate also having a higher DON: DOP ratio. These results indicate that there is an overall higher amount of DOM leachate from T. hemprichii than that of E. acoroides that is available to the seagrass ecosystem. According to the logarithmic model for DOM release and the in situ leaf litter production(the Xincun Bay, South China Sea), the seagrass leaf litter of these two seagrass species could release approximately 4×10~3 mol/d DOC, 1.4×10~3 mol/d DON and 25 mol/d DOP into the seawater. In addition to providing readily available nutrients for the microbial food web, the remaining particulate organic matter(POM)from the litter would also enter microbial remineralization processes. What is not remineralized from either DOM or POM fractions has potential to contribute to the permanent carbon stocks.LIU Songlin JIANG Zhijian ZHOU Chenyuan WU Yunchao ARBI Iman ZHANG Jingping HUANG Xiaoping TREVATHAN-TACKETT Stacey M. 2018Acta Oceanologica Sinica2018,37,8:4
