| 1 | The interplay of host genetic factors and Epstein-Barr virus in the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘The interplay between host cell genetics and Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) infection contributes to the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC). Understanding the host genetic and epigenetic alterations and the influence of EBV on cell signaling and host gene regulation will aid in understanding the molecular pathogenesis of NPC and provide useful biomarkers and targets for diagnosis and therapy. In this review, we provide an update of the oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes associated with NPC, as well as genes associated with NPC risk including those involved in carcinogen detoxification and DNA repair. We also describe the importance of host genetics that govern the human leukocyte antigen(HLA) complex and immune responses, and we describe the impact of EBV infection on host cell signaling changes and epigenetic regulation of gene expression. High-power genomic sequencing approaches are needed to elucidate the genetic basis for inherited susceptibility to NPC and to identify the genes and pathways driving its molecular pathogenesis. | Maria Li Lung Arthur Kwok Leung Cheung Josephine Mun Yee Ko Hong Lok Lung Yue Cheng Wei Dai | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2014,33,11: | 13 |

| 4 | STRONGLY CONSISTENT ESTIMATION FOR A MULTIVARIATE LINEAR RELATIONSHIP MODEL WITH ESTIMATED COVARIANCES MATRIX显示文摘In this paper, a multivariate linear functional relationship model, where the covariance matrix of the observational errors is not restricted, is considered. The parameter estimation of this model is discussed. The estimators are shown to be a strongly consistent estimation under some mild conditions on the incidental parameters. | Yee LEUNG (Chinese University of Hong Kong, China) WU Kefa DONG Tianxin (Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an 710049, China) | 2001 | Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2001,14,2: | 2 |

| 6 | Enlightenment from the COVID-19 Pandemic:The Roles of Environmental Factors in Future Public Health Emergency Response显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is challenging the current public health emergency response systems(PHERSs)of many countries.Although environmental factors, such as those influencing the survival of viruses and their transmission between species including humans, play important roles in PHERSs,little attention has been given to these factors. This study describes and elucidates the roles of environmental factors in future PHERSs.To improve countries’capability to respond to public health emergencies associated with viral infections such as the COVID-19 pandemic,a number of environmental factors should be considered before, during, and after the responses to such emergencies.More specifically,to prevent pandemic outbreaks,we should strengthen environmental and wildlife protection, conduct detailed viral surveillance in animals and hotspots, and improve early-warning systems.During the pandemic,we must study the impacts of environmental factors on viral behaviors, develop control measures to minimize secondary environmental risks, and conduct timely assessments of viral risks and secondary environmental effects with a view to reducing the impacts of the pandemic on human health and on ecosystems. After the pandemic,we should further strengthen surveillance for viruses and the prevention of viral spread, maintain control measures for minimizing secondary environmental risks, develop our capability to scientifically predict pandemics and resurgences, and prepare for the next unexpected resurgence.Meanwhile,we should restore the normal life and production of the public based on the“One Health”concept, that views global human and environmental health as inextricably linked. Our recommendations are essential for improving nations’capability to respond to global public health emergencies. | Xiaolei Wang Fengchang Wu Xiaoli Zhao Xiao Zhang Junyu Wang Lin Niu Weigang Liang Kenneth Mei Yee Leung John P.Giesy | 2022 | Engineering2022,8,1: | 2 |
| 7 | Modelling for registration of remotely sensed imagery when reference control points contain error显示文摘Reference control points (RCPs) used in establishing the regression model in the regis-tration or geometric correction of remote sensing images are generally assumed to be “perfect”. That is, the RCPs, as explanatory variables in the regression equation, are accurate and the coordinates of their locations have no errors. Thus ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator has been applied exten-sively to the registration or geometric correction of remotely sensed data. However, this assumption is often invalid in practice because RCPs always contain errors. Moreover, the errors are actually one of the main sources which lower the accuracy of geometric correction of an uncorrected image. Under this situation, the OLS estimator is biased. It cannot handle explanatory variables with errors and cannot propagate appropriately errors from the RCPs to the corrected image. Therefore, it is essential to develop new feasible methods to overcome such a problem. This paper introduces a consistent adjusted least squares (CALS) estimator and proposes relaxed consistent adjusted least squares (RCALS) estimator, with the latter being more general and flexible, for geometric correction or regis-tration. These estimators have good capability in correcting errors contained in the RCPs, and in propagating appropriately errors of the RCPs to the corrected image with and without prior information. The objective of the CALS and proposed RCALS estimators is to improve the accuracy of measure-ment value by weakening the measurement errors. The conceptual arguments are substantiated by a real remotely sensed data. Compared to the OLS estimator, the CALS and RCALS estimators give a superior overall performance in estimating the regression coefficients and variance of measurement errors. | Leung Yee | 2006 | Science China Earth Sciences2006,49,7: | 2 |
