| 2 | Value of a newly sequenced bacterial genome显示文摘Next-generation sequencing(NGS) technologies have made high-throughput sequencing available to medium- and small-size laboratories, culminating in a tidal wave of genomic information. The quantity of sequenced bacterial genomes has not only brought excitement to the field of genomics but also heightened expectations that NGS would boost antibacterial discovery and vaccine development. Although many possible drug and vaccine targets have been discovered, the success rate of genome-based analysis has remained below expectations. Furthermore, NGS has had consequences for genome quality, resulting in an exponential increase in draft(partial data) genome deposits in public databases. If no further interests are expressed for a particular bacterial genome, it is more likely that the sequencing of its genome will be limited to a draft stage, and the painstaking tasks of completing the sequencing of its genome and annotation will not be undertaken. It is important to know what is lost when we settle for a draft genome and to determine the 'scientific value' of a newly sequenced genome. This review addresses the expected impact of newly sequenced genomes on antibacterial discovery and vaccinology. | 3 | Transient micro-elastography:A novel non-invasive approach to measure liver stiffness in mice显示文摘AIM:To develop and validate a transient micro-elastography device to measure liver stiffness(LS) in mice.METHODS:A novel transient micro-elastography(TME) device,dedicated to LS measurements in mice with a range of measurement from 1-170 kPa,was developed using an optimized vibration frequency of 300 Hz and a 2 mm piston.The novel probe was validated in a classical fibrosis model(CCl4) and in a transgenic murine model of systemic amyloidosis.RESULTS:TME could be successfully performed in control mice below the xiphoid cartilage,with a mean LS of 4.4 ± 1.3 kPa,a mean success rate of 88%,and an excellent intra-observer agreement(0.98).Treatment with CCl4 over seven weeks drastically increased LS as compared to controls(18.2 ± 3.7 kPa vs 3.6 ± 1.2 kPa).Moreover,fibrosis stage was highly correlated with LS(Spearman coefficient = 0.88,P < 0.01).In the amyloidosis model,much higher LS values were obtained,reaching maximum values of > 150 kPa.LS significantly correlated with the amyloidosis index(0.93,P < 0.0001) and the plasma concentration of mutant hapoA-□(0.62,P < 0.005).CONCLUSION:Here,we have established the first non-invasive approach to measure LS in mice,and have successfully validated it in two murine models of high LS. | Cécile Bastard Matteo R Bosisio Michèle Chabert Athina D Kalopissis Meriem Mahrouf-Yorgov Hélène Gilgenkrantz Sebastian Mueller Laurent Sandrin | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,8: | 4 |

| 5 | Autoregressive neural networks with exogenous variables for indoor temperature prediction in buildings显示文摘Thermal models of buildings are helpful to forecast their energy use and to enhance the control of their mechanical systems.However,these models are building-specific and require a tedious,error-prone and time-consuming development effort relying on skilled building energy modelers.Compared to white-box and gray-box models,data-driven(black-box)models require less development time and a minimal amount of information about the building characteristics.In this paper,autoregressive neural network models are compared to gray-box and black-box linear models to simulate indoor temperatures.These models are trained,validated and compared to actual experimental data obtained for an existing commercial building in Montreal(QC,Canada)equipped with roof top units for air conditioning.Results show that neural networks mimic more accurately the thermal behavior of the building when limited information is available,compared to gray-box and black-box linear models.The gray-box model does not perform adequately due to its under-parameterized nature,while the linear models cannot capture non-linear phenomena such as radiative heat transfer and occupancy.Therefore,the neural network models outperform the alternative models in the presented application,reaching a coefficient of determination R2 up to 0.824 and a root mean square error down to 1.11℃,including the error propagation over time for a 1-week period with a 5-minute time-step.When considering a 50-hour time horizon,the best neural networks reach a much lower root mean square error of around 0.6℃,which is suitable for applications such as model predictive control. | Benoit Delcroix Jérôme Le Ny Michel Bernier Muhammad Azam Bingrui Qu Jean-Simon Venne | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,1: | 3 |

| 9 | Woody species composition,diversity and structure of riparian forests of four watercourses types in Burkina Faso显示文摘Riparian forests are classified as endangered ecosystems in general,particularly in sahelian countries like Burkina Faso because of human-induced alterations and civil engineering works.The modification of this important habitat is continuing,with little attention being paid to the ecological or human consequences of these changes.The objective of this study is to describe the variation of woody species diversity and dynamic in riparian forests on different type of watercourse banks along phytogeographical gradient in Burkina Faso.All woody species were systematically measured in 90 sample plots with sides of 50 m × 20 m.Density,dominance,frequency and species and family importance values were computed to characterize the species composition.Different diver-sity indices were calculated to examine the heterogeneity of riparian forests.A total of 196 species representing 139 genera and 51 families were recorded in the overall riparian forests.The species richness of individuals with dbh ≥ 5cm increased significantly from the North to the South along the phytogeographical gradient and varied significantly between the different types of riparian forests.Similarity in tree species composition between riparian forests was low,which indicates high beta diversity and reflects differences in habitat conditions and topography.The structural characteristics varied significantly along the phyto-geographical gradient and between the different types of riparian forests.The diameter class distribution of trees in all riparian forests showed a reverse 'J' shaped curve except riparian forest of stream indicating vegetation dominated by juvenile individuals.Considering the ecological importance of riparian forest,there is a need to delineate and classify them along watercourses throughout the country. | Oumarou Sambaré Fidèle Bognounou Rüdiger Wittig Adjima Thiombiano | 2011 | Journal of Forestry Research2011,22,2: | 2 |

In most situations,bone regeneration is successful;however, there are instances when it fails andcreates non-healing injuries or fracture nonunion requiring surgical or therapeuticinterventions. Transplantation of adult or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) definedby the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (ISCT) as CD105+-CD90+CD73+CD45-CD34-CD14orCD11b-CD79αorCD19-HLA-DR- is beinginvestigated as an attractive therapy for bone regeneration throughout the world.MSCs isolated from adipose tissue, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), aregaining increasing attention since this is the most abundant source of adult stemcells and the isolation process for ADSCs is straightforward. Currently, there isnot a single Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ADSCs product forbone regeneration. Although the safety of ADSCs is established from their usagein numerous clinical trials, the bone-forming potential of ADSCs and MSCs, ingeneral, is highly controversial. Growing evidence suggests that the ISCT definedphenotype may not represent bona fide osteoprogenitors. Transplantation of bothADSCs and the CD105- sub-population of ADSCs has been reported to induce bone regeneration. Most notably, cells expressing other markers such as CD146,AlphaV, CD200, PDPN, CD164, CXCR4, and PDGFRα have been shown torepresent osteogenic sub-population within ADSCs. Amongst other strategies toimprove the bone-forming ability of ADSCs, modulation of VEGF, TGF-β1 andBMP signaling pathways of ADSCs has shown promising results. A numerical method based on finite volume method is used to discretize the governing equations. At the inlet of the channel, pulsating velocity is imposed for a range of Strouhal numbers St_p from 0 to 1 and amplitude A_p from 0 to 0.5. The effects of the governing parameters, such as frequency and amplitude of the pulsation, Richardson number, Ri, and aspect ratio of the cavity, L/H, on the flow field, temperature distribution, average Nusselt number and average entropy generation, are numerically analyzed. The results indicate that the heat transfer and entropy generation are strongly affected by the frequency and amplitude of the pulsation and this depends on the Richardson number and aspect ratio of the cavity.
