1Comparing the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil after different bioremediation approaches in relation to the extracellular enzyme activities显示文摘A 120-day experiment was conducted to compare the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) from agricultural soil after natural attenuation(NA), phytoremediation(P), mycoremediation(M), and plant-assisted mycoremediation(PAM) approaches in relation to the extracellular enzyme activities in soil. The NA treatment removed the total soil PAH content negligibly. The P treatment using maize(Zea mays) enhanced only the removal of low and medium molecular PAHs. The Pleurotus ostreatus cultivated on 30–50 mm wood chip substrate used in M treatment was the most successful in the removal of majority PAHs. Therefore,significantly(p < 0.05) highest total PAH removal by 541.4 μg/kg dw(dry weight)(36%) from all tested M treatments was observed. When using the same fungal substrate together with maize in PAM treatment, the total PAH removal was not statistically different from the previous M treatment. However, the maize-assisted mycoremediation treatment significantly boosted fungal biomass, microbial and manganese peroxidase activity in soil which strongly correlated with the removal of total PAHs. The higher PAH removal in that PAM treatment could be reflected in the following post-harvest time. 2Evaluating methods to quantify sediment volumes trapped behind check dams, Saldana badlands (Spain)显示文摘The determination of sediment yield in catchments based on the sediment trapped by check dams is becoming a subject of interest.In fact,several methods have been developed in recent years to estimate the sediment retained by check dams.The complexity,precision and accuracy of each method vary greatly.In this study,we evaluate the sediment trapped by check dams comparing the Sections method respect to the Prism,Pyramid,DTMs and Trapezoid methods.We analyzed a sample of 25 check dams(α-1=90%;ε=10%) in the Saldana badlands(Spain).The results showed that the Sections method offered a volume of retained sediment between the others,which gave an absolute variation from 22%to40%.The high variability of the check dam and sediment wedge sizes made necessary to compare methods in groups combining both characteristics.No significant differences in sediment volumes could be found between the methods for very small(height(h):1.8-2.3 m;trapped volume(V):6-102 m^3) or large check dams(h > 2.3 m;V:165-387 m^3),while significant differences are found for small(h < 1.5 m;V:1-229 m^3) or middle-sized check dams(h:2.2-3.2 m;V:65-235 m3).Nevertheless,volume differences between groups ranged up to + 25%.For these reason,the size of the check dam,the shape of the sediment wedge and the accuracy of the measure methods must considered when selecting an appropriate method to obtain the volume of retained sediment by check dams.A correct estimation of the sediment retention is needed to evaluate the role and efficiency of check dams in restoration projects or to estimate sediment yields.Ivan Ramos-Diez Joaquin Navarro-Hevia Roberto San Martin Fernfindez Virginia Diaz-Gutierrez Jorge Mongil-Manso 2017International Journal of Sediment Research2017,32,1:2
3Running-in friction of hip joint replacements can be significantly reduced:The effect of surface-textured acetabular cup显示文摘Hip joint replacements represent the most effective way of treatment for patients suffering from joint diseases.Despite the rapid improvement of implant materials over the last few decades,limited longevity associated with wear-related complications persists as the main drawback.Therefore,improved tribological perfor-mance is required in order to extend the service life of replacements.The effect of surface texturing of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)acetabular cup was investigated in the present study.Unique tilling method was utilized for manufacturing the dimples with controlled diameter and depths on the contact surface of the cup.The experiments with four commercial femoral components and two model lubricants were realized.The main attention was paid to a coefficient of friction considering the differences between the original and the dimpled cups.Results showed remarkable lowering of friction,in general.Focusing on the simulated human synovial fluid,friction was reduced by 40%(alumina ceramic),38.8%(zirconia toughened ceramic),25.5%(metal),and 9.9%(oxinium).In addition,the dimples helped to keep the friction stable without fluctuations.To conclude,the paper brings a new insight into frictional behaviour of the hip replacements during running-in phase which is essential for overall implant lifespan.It is believed that proper surface texturing may rapidly improve the life quality of millions of patients and may lead to considerable financial savings.David NECAS Hatsuhiko USAMI Tatsuya NIIMI Yoshinori SAWAE Ivan KRUPKA Martin HARTL 2020Friction2020,8,6:2
4Cytokinin levels and signaling respond to wounding and the perception of herbivore elicitors in Nicotiana attenuata显示文摘Nearly half a century ago insect herbivores were found to induce the formation of green islands by manipulating cytokinin(CK) levels. However, the response of the CK pathway to attack by chewing insect herbivores remains unclear. Here, we characterize the CK pathway of Nicotiana attenuata(Torr. ex S.Wats.) and its response to wounding and perception of herbivore-associated molecular patterns(HAMPs). We identified 44 genes involved in CK biosynthesis, inactivation, degradation, and signaling. Leaf wounding rapidly induced transcriptional changes in multiple genes throughout the pathway, as wel as in the levels of CKs, including isopentenyladenosine and cis-zeatin riboside;perception of HAMPs present in the oral secretions(OS) of the specialist herbivore Manduca sexta amplified these responses.The jasmonate pathway, which triggers many herbivore-induced processes, was not required for these HAMP-triggered changes,but rather suppressed the CK responses. Interestingly CK pathway changes were observed also in systemic leaves in response to wounding and OS application indicating a role of CKs in mediating long distance systemic processes in response to herbivory. Since wounding and grasshopper OS elicited similar Reseaccumulations of CKs in Arabidopsis thaliana L., we propose that CKs are integral components of wounding and HAMP-triggered responses in many plant species.Martin Sch?fer Ivan D. 10Species diversity of Basidiomycota显示文摘Fungi are eukaryotes that play essential roles in ecosystems.Among fungi,Basidiomycota is one of the major phyla with more than 40,000 described species.We review species diversity of Basidiomycota from five groups with different lifestyles or habitats:saprobic in grass/forest litter,wood-decaying,yeast-like,ectomycorrhizal,and plant parasitic.Case studies of Agaricus,Cantharellus,Ganoderma,Gyroporus,Russula,Tricholoma,and groups of lichenicolous yeast-like fungi,rust fungi,and smut fungi are used to determine trends in discovery of biodiversity.In each case study,the number of new species published during 2009–2020 is analysed to determine the rate of discovery.Publication rates differ between taxa and reflect different states of progress for species discovery in different genera.The results showed that lichenicolous yeast-like taxa had the highest publication rate for new species in the past two decades,and it is likely this trend will continue in the next decade.The species discovery rate of plant parasitic basidiomycetes was low in the past ten years,and remained constant in the past 50 years.We also found that the establishment of comprehensive and robust taxonomic systems based on a joint global initiative by mycologists could promote and standardize the recognition of taxa.We estimated that more than 54,000 species of Basidiomycota will be discovered by 2030,and estimate a total of 1.4–4.2 million species of Basidiomycota glob-ally.These numbers illustrate a huge gap between the described and yet unknown diversity in Basidiomycota.Mao-Qiang He Rui-Lin Zhao Dong-Mei Liu Teodor T.Denchev Dominik Begerow Andrey Yurkov Martin Kemler Ana M.Millanes Mats Wedin A.R.McTaggart Roger G.Shivas Bart Buyck Jie Chen Alfredo Vizzini Viktor Papp Ivan V.Zmitrovich Naveed Davoodian Kevin D.Hyde 2022Fungal Diversity2022,,3:1

20Investigation of the tribological performance of ionic liquids in non-conformal EHL contacts under electric field activation显示文摘Real-time external alteration of the internal properties of lubricants is highly desirable in all mechanical systems. However, fabricating a suitable and effective smart lubricant is a long-lasting experimental process. In this study, the film thickness and frictional response of ionic liquid-lubricated non-conformal contacts to an electric field excitation under elastohydrodynamic conditions were examined. Film thickness was evaluated using a 'ball-on-disc' optical tribometer with an electric circuit. Friction tests were carried on a mini traction machine (MTM) tribometer with a 'ball-on-disc' rotation module and an electric circuit for contact area excitation. The results demonstrate that there is a difference in the behaviour of the ionic liquid during electric field excitation at the evaluated film thicknesses. The results of evaluated film thicknesses demonstrate that there is a difference in the behaviour of the ionic liquid during electric field excitation. Therefore, the ionic liquids could be a new basis for the smart lubrication of mechanical components.
