1Endoscopic ultrasound elastography for evaluation of lymph nodes and pancreatic masses:A multicenter study显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the ability of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) elastography to distinguish benign from malignant pancreatic masses and lymph nodes.METHODS:A multicenter study was conducted and included 222 patients who underwent EUS examination with assessment of a pancreatic mass(n=121) or lymph node(n=101).The classification as benign or malignant,based on the real time elastography pattern,was compared with the classif ication based on the B-mode EUS images and with the fi nal diagnosis obtained by EUS-guided fi ne needle aspiration(EUS-FNA) and/or by surgical pathology.An interobserver study was performed.RESULTS:The sensitivity and specificity of EUS elastography to differentiate benign from malignant pancreatic lesions are 92.3% and 80.0%,respectively,compared to 92.3% and 68.9%,respectively,for the conventional B-mode images.The sensitivity and specificity of EUS elastography to differentiate benign from malignant lymph nodes was 91.8% and 82.5%,respectively,compared to 78.6% and 50.0%,respectively,for the B-mode images.The kappa coefficient was 0.785 for the pancreatic masses and 0.657 for the lymph nodes.CONCLUSION:EUS elastography is superior compared to conventional B-mode imaging and appears to be able to distinguish benign from malignant pancreatic masses and lymph nodes with a high sensitivity,specificity and accuracy.It might be reserved as a second line examination to help characterise pancreatic masses after negative EUS-FNA and might increase the yield of EUS-FNA for lymph nodes.Marc Giovannini Botelberge Thomas Bories Erwan Pesenti Christian Caillol Fabrice Esterni Benjamin Monges Geneviève Arcidiacono Paolo Deprez Pierre Yeung Robert Schimdt Walter Schrader Hanz Szymanski Carl Dietrich Christoph Eisendrath Pierre Van Laethem Jean-Luc Devière Jacques Vilmann Peter Saftoiu Andrian 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,13:48
2Organic matter produced by algae and cyanobacteria: Quantitative and qualitative characterization显示文摘This work aims at characterizing organic matter produced by an alga Euglena gracilis and a cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa and assessing the evolution of its characteristics during growth.A culture medium was optimized.The species growth phases were monitored using both visible spectrophotometry and flow cytometry cell counting.Organic matter fractionation according to hydrophobicity and specific UV absorbance(SUVA) index were used to specifically characterize the produced algal organic matter(AOM).The AOM characteristics were both growth phase and species dependent.However,a similar evolution was observed.The hydrophilic fraction(HPI) was the major fraction whatever the growth phases and was almost the only one produced during lag and exponential phases.It represented around 75% of AOM during exponential phase and then decreased when the stationary phase appeared.It represented 46% and 60% of the AOM during late decline phase for the cyanobacteria and the alga respectively.The hydrophobic(HPO) and transphilic(TPH) fractions started to appear from the beginning of the stationary phase with more hydrophobic compounds coming from intracellular organic material of dying cells.HPO and TPH percentages still increased during the decline phase probably because of two additional processes:photo-dissolution and leaching of particulate organic matter from cells fragments.A comparison of AOM during late decline phase and natural organic matter(NOM) from Glane River(France) underlined that AOM was more hydrophilic and presented a lower SUVA for each fractions than NOM.However,the difference between NOM and AOM hydrophobicity narrowed during decline phase.Maud Leloup Rudy Nicolau Virginie Pallier Claude Yprmian Geneviève Feuillade-Cathalifaud 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:10
3Platelets and Alzheimer's disease:Potential of APP as a biomarker显示文摘Platelets are the first peripheral source of amyloid precursor protein(APP). They possess the proteolytic machinery to produce Aβ and fragments similar to those produced in neurons, and thus offer an ex-vivo model to study APP processing and changes associated with Alzheimer's disease(AD). Platelet process APP mostly through the α-secretase pathway to release soluble APP(s APP). They produce small amounts of Aβ, predominantly Aβ40 over Aβ42. s APP and Aβ are stored inα-granules and are released upon platelet activation by thrombin and collagen, and agents inducing platelet degranulation. A small proportion of full-length APP is present at the platelet surface and this increases by 3-fold upon platelet activation. Immunoblotting of platelet lysates detects APP as isoforms of 130 kD a and106-110 kD a. The ratio of these of APP isoforms is significantly lower in patients with AD and mild cognitive impairment(MCI) than in healthy controls. This ratio follows a decrease that parallels cognitive decline andcan predict conversion from MCI to AD. Alterations in the levels of α-secretase ADAM10 and in the enzymatic activities of α- and β-secretase observed in platelets of patients with AD are consistent with increased processing through the amyloidogenic pathway. β-APP cleaving enzyme activity is increased by 24% in platelet membranes of patients with MCI and by 17% in those with AD. Reports of changes in platelet APP expression with MCI and AD have been promising so far and merit further investigation as the search for blood biomarkers in AD, in particular at the prodromal stage, remains a priority and a challenge.Geneviève Evin Qiao-Xin Li 2012World Journal of Psychiatry2012,2,6:4

6Hydrothermal Synthesis and Characterization of Europium-doped Barium Titanate Nanocrystallites显示文摘Barium titanate nanocrystallites were synthesized by a hydrothermal technique from barium chloride and tetrabutyl titanate. Single-crystalline cubic perovskite Ba TiO_3 consisting of spherical particles with diameters ranging from 10 to 30 nm was easily achieved by this route. In order to study the influence of the synthesis process on the morphology and the optical properties, barium titanate was also prepared by a solid-state reaction. In this case, only the tetragonal phase which crystallizes above 900 was observed. High-temperature X-ray diffraction measurements were performed to investigate the crystallization temperatures as well as the particle sizes via the Scherrer formula. The lattice vibrations were evidenced by infrared spectroscopy. Eu^(3+)was used as a structural probe, and the luminescence properties recorded from Ba TiO_3 :Eu^(3+)and elaborated by a solid-state reaction and hydrothermal process were compared. 7Effect of serum γ-glutamyltranferase and albumin levels on the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy in the elderly显示文摘Background Several liver function tests have been identified as predictors of hospitalization for heart failure(HF) and death in patients with chronic HF. The relationship between serum γ-glutamyltranferase(GGT) and albumin(SA) levels with the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT) has not been reliably determined. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of liver function tests on the results of CRT in the elderly. Methods Baseline GGT and SA were assessed before CRT device implantation in the elderly(> 70-year-old) patients. The endpoints were:(1) CRT response defined as > 5% left ventricular ejection fraction improvement and no hospitalization for HF or cardiovascular death;(2) hospitalizations;and(3) mortality. Results Eighty of 138(58%) included patients were responders at nine months. Compared to responders, the SA levels were not significantly different(35.1 ± 5.4 vs. 33.6 ± 5.5 g/L, P = 0.103);but the GGT levels, higher(81.6 ± 69.3 vs. 54.7 ± 49.6 U/L, P = 0.013) in non-responders to CRT. GGT level was independently associated with non-response to CRT(P < 0.001, OR = 0.17;95% CI: 0.08–0.38, P < 0.001). GGT cut-off value ≥ 55 U/L was highly predictive of non-response [AUC = 0.65, 64% Sensitivity, 69% Specificity(95% CI: 0.56–0.74)]. GGT ≥ 55 U/L was also associated with higher risk of hospitalization for atrial fibrillation(AF)(95% vs. 83%, P = 0.024). Both SA and GGT had no impact on overall(P = 0.220, P = 0.723) mortality. Conclusions Higher level of GGT is an independent predictor of non-response to CRT in patients over age 70 years and is associated with higher risk of hospitalization for AF. 10Equivariant analytical mapping of first principles Hamiltonians to accurate and transferable materials models显示文摘We propose a scheme to construct predictive models for Hamiltonian matrices in atomic orbital representation from ab initio data as a function of atomic and bond environments.The scheme goes beyond conventional tight binding descriptions as it represents the ab initio model to full order,rather than in two-centre or three-centre approximations.We achieve this by introducing an extension to the atomic cluster expansion(ACE)descriptor that represents Hamiltonian matrix blocks that transform equivariantly with respect to the full rotation group.The approach produces analytical linear models for the Hamiltonian and overlap matrices.Through an application to aluminium,we demonstrate that it is possible to train models from a handful of structures computed with density functional theory,and apply them to produce accurate predictions for the electronic structure.The model generalises well and is able to predict defects accurately from only bulk training data.Liwei Zhang Berk Onat Geneviève Dusson Adam McSloy G.Anand Reinhard J.Maurer Christoph Ortner James R.Kermode 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:2

16Vanadium-dependent activation of glucose transport in adipocytes by catecholamines is not mediated via adrenoceptor stimulation or monoamine oxidase activity显示文摘BACKGROUND Benzylamine and methylamine activate glucose uptake in adipocytes.For tyramine,this effect has even been extended to cardiomyocytes.AIM To investigate the effects of catecholamines and other amines on glucose uptake.METHODS A screening compared 25 biogenic amines on 2-deoxyglucose(2-DG)uptake activation in rat adipocytes.Pharmacological approaches and transgenic mouse models were then used to decipher the mode of action of several hits.RESULTS In rat adipocytes,insulin stimulation of 2-DG uptake was reproduced with catecholamines.100μmol/L or 1 mmol/L adrenaline,noradrenaline,dopamine and deoxyepinephrine,maximally activated hexose transport only when sodium orthovanadate was added at 100μmol/L.Such activation was similar to that already reported for benzylamine,methylamine and tyramine,well-recognized substrates of semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase(SSAO)and monoamine oxidase(MAO).Several,but not all,tested agonists ofβ-adrenoreceptors(β-ARs)also activated glucose transport whileα-AR agonists were inactive.Lack of blockade byα-andβ-AR antagonists indicated that catecholamine-induced 2-DG uptake was not mediated by AR stimulation.Adipocytes from mice lackingβ1-,β2-andβ3-ARs(triple KO)also responded to millimolar doses of adrenaline or noradrenaline by activating hexose transport in the presence of 100μmol/L vanadate.The MAO blocker pargyline,and SSAO inhibitors did not block the effects of adrenaline or noradrenaline plus vanadate,which were blunted by antioxidants.CONCLUSION Catecholamines exert unexpected insulin-like actions in adipocytes when combined with vanadium.For limiting insulin resistance by activating glucose consumption at least in fat stores,we propose that catecholamine derivatives combined with vanadium can generate novel complexes that may have low toxicity and promising anti-diabetic properties.Jessica Fontaine Geneviève Tavernier Nathalie Morin Christian Carpéné 2020World Journal of Diabetes2020,11,12:2
