| 17 | Cutaneous leishmaniasis in Louisiana-one-year follow-up:A case report显示文摘Reports of leishmaniasis are scarce in North America.It is considered to be one of the neglected tropical diseases.It is seen in immigrants from endemic areas to United States.Treatments are not readily available in the United States.Untreated or inadequately treated cutaneous leishmaniasis not only causes localized disfigurement but can advance to more permanent and devastating mucosal disfigurement and perforation,if caused by a species that can also cause mucocutaneous leishmaniasis.CASE SUMMARY A 42-year-old human immunodeficiency virus negative male immigrant from Honduras presented to the emergency department of our facility in Louisiana with a 2-mo history of a left lower extremity ulcer.It started as a painless blister that progressed in size and developed into other smaller lesions tracking up the thigh and became tender and erythematous.Clinically looked nontoxic and healthy.He was afebrile.Blood tests,except inflammatory markers,were within normal limits.The cellulitis of the leg was treated with 6 d of vancomycin that also relieved the pain.Skin biopsy was obtained,and histopathology was suspicious for leishmania.Polymerase chain reaction/deoxyribonucleic acid sequencing done by centers for disease control and prevention confirmed the diagnosis as Leishmania panamensis.There was no involvement of nasooropharyngeal mucosa,confirmed by otolaryngology.The patient was treated with miltefosine for 28 d.Clinic follow-up after approximately 11 mo revealed a healed skin ulcer.CONCLUSION Cutaneous leishmaniasis should be in the differential diagnosis of skin ulcers of travelers from endemic areas.Awareness regarding diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis needs to be enhanced. | Ashaur Azhar Hillary E Connell Christopher Haas Jelena Surla Devin Reed Sanjay Kamboj Gordon L Love Yussef Bennani | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases2021，11，1： | 0 |

| 19 | Viscoelasticity and shear resistance at the aggregate scale of structured and organic carbon-free Chernozems显示文摘Soil rheology characterises the flow behaviour of soils at the particle-particle to aggregate scale.Amplitude sweep tests(ASTs)are often the method of choice for parameterizing soil flow properties,such as the shear strain values at the end of the linear viscoelastic range(i.e.,the deformation is mainly elastic)and at the yield point(i.e.,elastic equals plastic deformation).Samples from seven soil profiles and five soil depths of Chernozems,collected in the Maidanetske study area,close to Uman City of Ukraine,were analysed to evaluate the effect of soil organic carbon(SOC)on the parameters related to soil microstructural stability derived from ASTs.Soil organic carbon was removed with H_(2)O_(2)to determine the soil texture-dependent values of soil rheological properties,which were compared to the values determined for samples with intact water-stable aggregates.The shear resistance-related parameters increased for aggregated soil samples compared to SOC-free soil samples,indicating an increase in soil stability due to SOC.In contrast,the values of the overall viscoelasticity and the shear strain were reduced for aggregated soil samples,indicating decreased soil stability.Pedotransfer functions were applied to predict the shear strain-dependent loss and storage moduli and shear stress values as a function of SOC depletion.Coarse particles(630–2000μm)and volumetric water content improved the models.We conclude that increased SOC content,through the gluing and cementing effects of SOC and altered aggregate shapes compared to SOC-free soil materials,contributes to higher microstructural strength.However,the increased water content in the SOC-containing soil samples reversed soil strengthening effect.This was due to the fact that a more rapid increase in positive water pressure under shear stress weakened the samples and the spherical aggregates began to rotate more easily,thus loosing energy,when compared to platy particles of the SOC-free soil materials. | Christoph HAAS Rainer HORN Philipp SAGGAU Rainer DUTTMANN | 2023 | Pedosphere2023，33，5： | 0 |
