1Prevalence of amblyopia among preschool children in central south China显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with amblyopia among children aged 30-83 mo in central south of China.METHODS: A population-based, cross-sectional study was conducted in children aged 30-83 mo in Changsha(an urban city) and Zhangjiajie(a rural area) in central south of China. Clinical examinations including ocular alignment, ocular motility, visual acuity(VA), prism cover test, cycloplegic refraction, slit lamp examination and fundus examination were performed by trained study ophthalmologists and optometrists. Unilateral amblyopia was defined as a 2-line difference between eyes with VA<20/32 in the worse eye and with coexisting anisometropia [≥1.00 D spherical eutivalent(SE) for hyperopia, ≥3.00 D SE for myopia, and ≥1.50 D for astigmatism], strabismus, or past or present visual axis obstruction. Bilateral amblyopia was defined as VA in both eyes <20/40(≥ 48-month-old) and <20/50(< 48-month-old), with coexisting hyperopia ≥4.00 D SE, myopia ≤-6.00 D SE, and astigmatism ≥2.50 D, or past or present visual axis obstruction.RESULTS: There were 8042 children enrolled and 7713 children were screened. The amblyopia prevalence in children aged 30-83 mo was 1.09%(95% confidence interval, 0.86%-1.35%) with no age(P=0.81), gender(P=0.46) or area distribution(P=0.93) differences. Of these, 0.68% were unilateral cases and 0.41% were bilateral cases. Underlying causes included anisometropia(40%), binocular refractive error(36%), strabismus(14%) and deprivation(10%). Hyperopia combined with astigmatism was the frequent refractive error for ametropic and anisometropic amblyopia.CONCLUSION: In this rural and urban Chinese population, 1.09% of children with 30-83 mo of age had amblyopia, a prevalence rate similar to that of many other studies. 3Ultrahigh numerical aperture meta-fibre for flexible optical trapping显示文摘Strong focusing on diffraction-limited spots is essential for many photonic applications and is particularly relevant for optical trapping;however,all currently used approaches fail to simultaneously provide flexible transportation of light,straightforward implementation,compatibility with waveguide circuitry,and strong focusing.Here,we demonstrate the design and 3D nanoprinting of an ultrahigh numerical aperture meta-fibre for highly flexible optical trapping.Taking into account the peculiarities of the fibre environment,we implemented an ultrathin meta-lens on the facet of a modified single-mode optical fibre via direct laser writing,leading to a diffraction-limited focal spot with a recordhigh numerical aperture of up to NA≈0.9.The unique capabilities of this flexible,cost-effective,bio-and fibre-circuitrycompatible meta-fibre device were demonstrated by optically trapping microbeads and bacteria for the first time with only one single-mode fibre in combination with diffractive optics.Our study highlights the relevance of the unexplored but exciting field of meta-fibre optics to a multitude of fields,such as bioanalytics,quantum technology and life sciences.Malte Plidschun Haoran Ren Jisoo Kim Ronny Forster Stefan A.Maier Markus A.Schmidt 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4:3
4The chemokine receptor CCR7 is a promising target for rheumatoid arthritis therapy显示文摘The chemokine receptor CCR7 and its ligands CCL19 and CCL21 guide the homing and positioning of dendritic and T cells in lymphoid organs,thereby contributing to several aspects of adaptive immunity and immune tolerance.In the present study,we investigated the role of CCR7 in the pathogenesis of collagen-induced arthritis(CIA).By using a novel anti-human CCR7 antibody and humanized CCR7 mice,we evaluated CCR7 as a target in this autoimmune model of rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Ccr7-deficient mice were completely resistant to CIA and presented severely impaired antibody responses to collagen II(CII).Selective CCR7 expression on dendritic cells restored arthritis severity and anti-CII antibody titers.Prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of humanized CCR7 mice with anti-human CCR7 mAb 8H3-16A12 led to complete resistance to CIA and halted CIA progression,respectively.Our data demonstrate that CCR7 signaling is essential for the induction of CIA and identify CCR7 as a potential therapeutic target in RA.Georgios L.Moschovakis Anja Bubke Michaela Friedrichsen Jasmin Ristenpart Jaap Willem Back Christine S.Falk Elisabeth Kremmer Reinhold Forster 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,10:3
5Mitochondrial protein sulfenation during aging in the rat brain显示文摘There is accumulating evidence that cysteine sulfenation (cys-SOH) in proteins plays an important rolein cellular response to oxidative stress. The purpose of the present study was to identify mitochondrialproteins that undergo changes in cys-SOH during aging. Studies were conducted in rats when they were5 or 30 months of age. Following blocking of free protein thiols with N-ethylmaleimide, protein sulfenicacids were reduced by arsenite to free thiol groups that were subsequently labeled with biotin-maleimide. Samples were then comparatively analyzed by two-dimensional Western blots, and proteinsshowing changes in sulfenation were selectively identified by mass spectrometry peptide sequencing.As a result, five proteins were identified. Proteins showing an age-related decrease in sulfenationinclude pyruvate carboxylase and pyruvate dehydrogenase; while those showing an age-relatedincrease in sulfenation include aconitase, mitofilin, and tubulin (α-1). 10Perforated appendicitis masquerading as acute pancreatitis in a morbidly obese patient显示文摘Diagnosis and treatment of common conditions in morbidly obese patients still pose a challenge to physicians and surgeons.Sometimes too much reliance is put on investigations that can lead to a misdiagnosis.This case demonstrates an obese woman admitted under the medical team with a presumed diagnosis of pneumonia, who was later found to have an acute abdomen and raised amylase,which led to an assumed diagnosis of pancreatitis.She died within 24 h of admission and post mortem confirmed the cause of death as systemic sepsis due to perforated appendicitis,with no evidence of pancreatitis.Significantly elevated serum amylase level may occur in non-pancreatitic acute abdomen.Michael J Forster Jacob A Akoh 2008World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,11:2
