2SciFinder-guided rational design of fluorescent carbon dots for ratiometric monitoring intracellular pH fluctuations under heat shock显示文摘Intracellular pH plays a significant role in various biological processes, including cell proliferation,apoptosis, metabolism, enzyme activity and homeostasis. In this work, a novel design strategy for the preparation of pH responsive carbon dots(CDs-pH) for ratiometric intracellular imaging was reported. By using SciFinder database, fluorescent CDs-pH with the required p Kavalue of 6.84 were rationally designed, which is vital important for precise sensing of intracellular pH. As a result, the synthesized CDspH demonstrated robust ability to test pH fluctuations within the physiological range of 5.4-7.4. The CDspH was further utilized for fluorescent ratiometric imaging of pH in living HeLa cells, effectively avoided the influence of autofluorescence from native cellular species. Moreover, real-time monitoring of intracellular pH fluctuation under heat shock was successfully realized. 3An electronic nose using a single graphene FET and machine learning for water, methanol, and ethanol显示文摘The poor gas selectivity problem has been a long-standing issue for miniaturized chemical-resistor gas sensors.The electronic nose(e-nose)was proposed in the 1980s to tackle the selectivity issue,but it required top-down chemical functionalization processes to deposit multiple functional materials.Here,we report a novel gas-sensing scheme using a single graphene field-effect transistor(GFET)and machine learning to realize gas selectivity under particular conditions by combining the unique properties of the GFET and e-nose concept.Instead of using multiple functional materials,the gas-sensing conductivity profiles of a GFET are recorded and decoupled into four distinctive physical properties and projected onto a feature space as 4D output vectors and classified to differentiated target gases by using machine-learning analyses.Our single-GFET approach coupled with trained pattern recognition algorithms was able to classify water,methanol,and ethanol vapors with high accuracy quantitatively when they were tested individually.Furthermore,the gas-sensing patterns of methanol were qualitatively distinguished from those of water vapor in a binary mixture condition,suggesting that the proposed scheme is capable of differentiating a gas from the realistic scenario of an ambient environment with background humidity.As such,this work offers a new class of gas-sensing schemes using a single GFET without multiple functional materials toward miniaturized e-noses.Takeshi Hayasaka Albert Lin Vernalyn C.Copa Lorenzo P.Lopez Jr Regine A.Loberternos Laureen Ida M.Ballesteros Yoshihiro Kubota Yumeng Liu Arnel A.Salvador Liwei Lin 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:2
4Correlation between sea surface temperature and wind speed in Greenland Sea and their relationships with NAO variability显示文摘The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is one of the major causes of many recent changes in the Arctic Ocean. Generally, it is related to wind speed, sea surface temperature (SST), and sea ice cover. In this study, we analyzed the distributions of and correlations between SST, wind speed, NAO, and sea ice cover from 2003 to 2009 in the Greenland Sea at 10°W to 10°E, 65°N to 80°N. SST reached its peak in July, while wind speed reached its minimum in July. Seasonal variability of SST and wind speed was different for different regions. SST and wind speed mainly had negative correlations. Detailed correlation research was focused on the 75°N to 80°N band. Regression analysis shows that in this band, the variation of SST lagged three months behind that of wind speed. Ice cover and NAO had a positive correlation, and the correlation coefficient between ice cover and NAO in the year 2007 was 0.61. SST and NAO also had a positive correlation, and SST influenced NAO one month in advance. The correlation coefficients between SST and NAO reached 0.944 for the year 2005, 0.7 for the year 2008, and 0.74 for the year 2009 after shifting SST one month later. NAO also had a positive correlation with wind speed, and it also influenced wind speed one month in advance. The correlation coefficients between NAO and wind speed reached 0.783, 0.813, and 0.818 for the years 2004, 2005, and 2008, respectively, after shifting wind speed one month earlier.Bo QU Albert J. 5Low power 3.1–10.6 GHz IR-UWB transmitter for Gbps wireless communications显示文摘This paper reviews and discusses the design of a low-power single-full-band (3.1-10.6 GHz) non- carrier impulse-radio ultra wideband (UWB) transmitter featuring 5th-order Gaussian derivative pulse shaping, integrated BPSK modulation, and 2.5 kV whole-chip ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection. The UWB transmitter design has been implemented in a commercial 0.18 μm CMOS technology with a very small die size of 0.25 mm2. The fabricated chips have demonstrated full functionality, extremely low power consumption of 0.14 pJ/p-mV, and an ultra short pulse width of 394 ps.
