1Kopsia Singapurensis提取物对酸性介质中低碳钢的缓蚀效应(英文)显示文摘The influence of the alkaloid extract of Kopsia singapurensis on the corrosion behavior of mild steel (MS) in 1 mol·L-1 HCl and 1 mol·L-1 H2SO4 was studied using electrochemical techniques, viz., potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance. The experimental results clearly show that the plant extract effectively inhibits corrosion in both acid media and the inhibition efficiency obtained from the electrochemical techniques is in good agreement. Furthermore, the polarization technique indicates that the extract acts as an anodic type inhibitor in HCl and as a mixed type in H2SO4. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was carried out to examine the surface morphological changes of metal specimens in both the inhibited and uninhibited solutions. SEM images show the formation of an adsorbed layer over the metal surface by the inhibitor molecule. 2热带水蛭Hirudinaria manillensis睡液提取物的体内降糖作用(英文)显示文摘The anticoagulant effect of leech saliva was traditionally employed in the treatment of diabetes mellitus complications such as peripheral vascular complications.This study was carried out to examine the effect of leech saliva extract(LSE)on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced diabetic rats.First,LSE was collected from leeches which were fed on a phagostimulatory solution.Second,total protein concentration was estimated using the Bradford assay.Third,diabetic rats were injected subcutaneously(sc)with LSE at doses of 500 and 1 000μg·kg 1body weight(bw).Other diabetic rats were injected sc with insulin at doses of 10 and 20 U·kg 1bw.Another group was injected simultaneously with LSE(250μg·kg 1bw)and insulin(10 U·kg 1bw).Fasting blood glucose(FBG)concentrations were monitored during a study period of eight hours at regular intervals.Findings showed that both doses of LSE resulted in a significant and gradual decrease in FBG starting from 10%18%downfall after two hours of injection reaching the maximal reduction activity of 58%after eight hours.Remarkably,LSE was sufficient to bring the rats to a near norm-glycemic state.The high dose of insulin induced a severe hypoglycemic condition after 2 4 h of injection.The lower dose was able to decline FBG for 2 6 h in rats which became diabetic again after 8 h.On the other hand,the concurrent injection of low doses of LSE and insulin produced a hypoglycemic effect with all rats showing normal FBG levels.Taken together,these findings indicated that the subcutaneous injection of LSE of the medicinal Malaysian leech was able to provide better glycemic control compared with insulin.Moreover,the synergism between LSE and insulin suggests that LSE could be utilized as an adjuvant medication in order to reduce insulin dosage or to achieve better control of blood glucose.Abdualkader Abdualrahman Mohammed Ghawi Abbas Mohammad Alaama Mohamed Awang Mohamed Merzouk Ahmed 2013中国天然药物2013,11,5:3
3Optimization of culture conditions for short-term maintenance, proliferation, and colony formation of porcine gonocytes显示文摘Background: Gonocytes give rise to spermatogonial stem cells, and thereby play an essential role in establishing spermatogenesis. Optimized culture conditions for gonocytes provide an opportunity for their study and in vitro manipulation for potential application in reproductive technologies. Using six experiments in a step-wise design, we examined the effects of several culture conditions on the maintenance, proliferation, and colony formation of porcine gonocytes. Testis cells from neonatal piglets were cultured for 7 d in DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. The examined culture conditions included using different cell seeding densities, gonocyte proportions, incubation temperatures, sampling strategies, and medium changing regimens.Results: Confluency of cel s was optimal(>90% by ~6 d) when 3.0 × 104 testis cel s/cm2 containing ~40% gonocytes were used. Incubating the cel s at 35 °C or 37 °C resulted in similar cel number and viability at confluency, but incubation at 35 °C resulted in a delayed confluency. In the first 2 d of culture, gonocytes remained mostly floating in the medium and gradual y settled over the next 5 d. Consequently, not changing the medium for 7 d(as opposed to changing it every 2 d) led to a significant increase in the number of gonocyte colonies by reducing the loss of 'floating gonocytes'.Conclusion: We found that gonocytes require the presence of a critical minimum number of somatic cel s for settlement, and can proliferate and form growing colonies even in a basic medium. Large numbers of viable gonocytes remain floating in the medium for several days. 6Assessing the kinetic model of hydro-distillation and chemical composition ofAquilaria malaccensis leaves essential oil显示文摘This study aimed to model the kinetic of hydro-distillation of Aquilaria malaccensis leaves oil in order to understand and optimize the extraction process. In addition, this study, for the first time, aimed to identify the chemical compositions of the A. malaccensis leave-oil. By assessing both first-order kinetic model and the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion, the result indicated that the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion better describes the hydro-distillation mechanism of the essential oil from A. malaccensis leaves.The optimum time, solid to liquid ratio, and the heating power for extracting the highest amount of essential oil were found to be around 3 h, 1:10(g·ml-1), and 300 W respectively. Yellow essential oil with a strong smell and a yield of 0.05 v/w was extracted by hydro-distillation Clevenger apparatus. Chemical compounds of the essential oil were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy(GC/MS), which resulted in identification of 42 compounds that constitute 93% of essential oil. 8Ethnicity association of Helicobacter pylori virulence genotype and metronidazole susceptibility显示文摘AIM:To characterise the cag pathogenicity island in Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) isolates by analysing the strains' vacA alleles and metronidazole susceptibilities in light of patient ethnicity and clinical outcome.METHODS:Ninety-five H.pylori clinical isolates obtained from patients with dyspepsia living in Malaysia were analysed in this study.Six genes in the cagPAI region(cagE,cagM,cagT,cag13,cag10 and cag67) andvacA alleles of theH.pylori isolates were identified by polymerase chain reaction.The isolates' metronidazole susceptibility was also determined using the E-test method,and the resistant gene was characterised by sequencing.RESULTS:More than 90% of the tested isolates had at least one gene in the cagPAI region,and cag67 was predominantly detected in the strains isolated from the Chinese patients,compared with the Malay and Indian patients(P < 0.0001).The majority of the isolates(88%) exhibited partial deletion(rearrangement) in the cagPAI region,with nineteen different patterns observed.Strains with intact or deleted cagPAI regions were detected in 3.2% and 8.4% of isolates,respectively.The prevalence of vacA s1m1 was significantly higher in the Malay and Indian isolates,whereas the isolates from the Chinese patients were predominantly genotyped as vacA s1m2(P = 0.018).Additionally,the isolates from the Chinese patients were more sensitive to metronidazole than the isolates from the Malay and Indian patients(P = 0.047).Although we attempted to relate the cagPAI genotypes,vacA alleles and metronidazole susceptibilities to disease outcome,no association was observed.The vacA alleles were distributed evenly among the strains with intact,partially deleted or deleted cagPAI regions.Interestingly,the strains exhibiting an intact cagPAI region were sensitive to metronidazole,whereas the strains with a deleted cagPAI were more resistant.CONCLUSION:Successful colonisation by different H.pylori genotypes is dependent on the host's genetic makeup and may play an important role in the clinical outcome.Hanafiah Alfizah Awang Hamat Rukman Ahmad Norazah Razlan Hamizah Mohamed Ramelah 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,8:2
9Acaricidal activity of Cymbopogon citratus and Azadirachta indica against house dust mites显示文摘Objective:To examine the acaricidal effects of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratits leaf extract(lemongrass)and ethanolic Azadirachta indica leaf extract(neem)against house dust mites Dermatophagoides farinae(D.farinae)and Dermalophagoides pteronyssinus(D.pteronyssinus).Methods:Twenty-five adults mites were placed onto treated filter paper that is soaked with plant extract and been tested at different concentrations(50.00%,25.00%,12.50%,6.25%and 3.13%)and exposure times(24hrs,48hrs,72hrs and 96 hrs).All treatments were replicated 7 times,and the experiment repeated once.The topical and contact activities of the two herbs were investigated.Results:Mortalities from lemongrass extract were higher than neem for both topical and contact activities.At 50%concentration,both 24 hrs topical and contact exposures to lemongrass resulted in more than 91%mortalities for both species of inites.At the same concentration and exposure time,neem resulted in topical mortalities of 40.3%and 15.7%against D.pteronyssinus and D.farinae respectively;contact mortalities were 8.0%and 8.9%against the 2 mites,respectively.There was no difference in topical mortalities of D.pteronyssinus from exposure to concentrations oflemongrass and neem up to 12.50%;lemongrass was more effective than neem at the higher concentrations.Conclusions:Generally,topical mortalities of D.farinae due to lemongrass are higher than that due to neem.Contact mortalities of lemongrass are always higher that neem against both species of mites.Azima Laili Hanifah Siti Hazar Awang Ho Tze Ming Suhaili Zainal Abidin Maizatul Hashima Omar 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,5:2
