| 1 | PERSPECTIVES IN MECHANICS OF HETEROGENEOUS SOLIDS显示文摘The Microand Nano-mechanics Working Group of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics organized a forum to discuss the perspectives,trends,and directions in mechanics of heterogeneous materials in January 2010.The international journal,Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica,is devoted to all fields of solid mechanics and relevant disciplines in science,technology,and engineering,with a balanced coverage on analytical,experimental,numerical and applied investigations.On the occasion of the 30 th anniversary of Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica,its editor-in-chief,Professor Q.S.Zheng invited some of the forum participants to review the state-of-the-art of mechanics of heterogeneous solids,with a particular emphasis on the recent research development results of Chinese scientists.Their reviews are organized into five research areas as reported in different sections of this paper.§I firstly brings in focus on microand nano-mechanics,with regards to several selective topics,including multiscale coupled models and computational methods,nanocrystal superlattices,surface effects,micromechanical damage mechanics,and microstructural evolution of metals and shape memory alloys.§II shows discussions on multifield coupled mechanical phenomena,e.g.,multi-fields actuations of liquid crystal polymer networks,mechanical behavior of materials under radiations,and micromechanics of heterogeneous materials.In §III,we mainly address the multiscale mechanics of biological nanocomposites,biological adhesive surface mechanics,wetting and dewetting phenomena on microstructured solid surfaces.The phononic crystals and manipulation of elastic waves were elaborated in §IV.Finally,we conclude with a series of perspectives on solid mechanics.This review will set a primary goal of future science research and engineering application on solid mechanics with the effort of social and economic development. | C.Q. | 2 | LASER LIFT-OFF OF GaN THIN FILMS FROM SAPPHIRE SUBSTRATES显示文摘Gallium Nitride film was successfully separated from sapphire substrate by laser radiation. The absorption of the 248nm radiation by the GaN at the interface results in rapid thermal decomposition of the interfacial layer, yielding metallic Ga and N2 gas. The substrate can be easily removed by heating above the Ga melting point (29℃). X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and Photoluminescence of CaN before and after lift-off process have been performed, which demonstrated that the separation and transfer process do not alter the structural quality of the GaN films. | 3 | AN ECO- AND INNO-PRODUCT DESIGN SYSTEM APPLYING INTEGRATED AND INTELLIGENT QFDE AND TRIZ METHODOLOGY显示文摘The green environmental laws and regulations are legislated, implemented, and enforced in many countries and economic regions. The provision of green products and services are the fast growing trend in global consumer markets. Therefore, introducing new products with environmental considerations becomes critical for global brand manufacturers. This research depicts an integrated and intelligent eco- and inno-product design methodology to support environmental friendly green product development. The methodology adopts approaches, such as life cycle assessment (LCA), quality function deploymnet for environement (QFDE), theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) and back-propagation network (BPN) to achieve eco- and inno-design objectives. LCA evaluates and compares the environmental impacts of production. QFDE transforms high-level concerns of environment into design requirements. When there are many historical QFDE data, the BPN prediction model is trained and deployed to automate the specifications of green design improvement. TRIZ is to support the creation of innovative product design ideas effectively and efficiently during the concept design stage. | 4 | Interface Structure of Ag/SnO_2 Nanocomposite Fabricated by Reactive Synthesis显示文摘The electric contact material of Ag/SnO2 composite was achieved by reactive synthesis method. The compositions and microstructure of Ag/SnO2 composite were analyzed and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM). The structural feature was typical of the particle reinforced composites. The HRTEM images revealed that the observed Ag/SnO2 interface was absence of the precipitated phase and the lattice contrast across the interface was clear and sharp. The average particle size of SnO2 in composite was near 50 nm and it was well dispersed in spherical shape. The thermodynamic mechanism of reactive synthesis method was also discussed. The electronic density distribution analysis of the interface showed the charges of Ag atoms transmitted to O atoms and the conductivity of the material was also affected. No extra compounds expected such as AgxOy formed at interface. The distribution of electrons was of inequality near the interface which explained why the mechanical property of the metal/ceramic materials was improved but the machining property declined. | Jingchao Chen Jing Feng B. | 5 | Socio-economic and Environmental Implications of the Hydroelectric Projects in Uttarakhand Himalaya, India显示文摘This paper deals with detailed analysis of the fiasco created by the Tehri High Dam in Uttarakhand, India, particularly in terms of resettlement and rehabilitation of the local inhabitants. Aspects pertaining to the environmental issues are also discussed. Currently, the river valleys in Uttarakhand state of India are the targets of increasing hydroelectric projects. Virtually all rivers are being exploited for generating environmental friendly power. Having being learned the hard lesson from Tehri Dam, it has been decided to opt for such schemes in which comparatively little submergence and tempering with the fragile eco-systems is involved.However, our observations suggest that even in such schemes if due care is not taken they may turn out to be a failure. | Naresh Rana S. | 7 | STUDY ON THE STABILITY OF T'PHASE IN THE Al-Zn-Cu TERNARY SYSTEM显示文摘The phase constitutes and phase compositions in the eight alloys designed with different compositions of Al-Zn-Cu system have been determined after the homogenous treatment and then equilibrium cooling to 20℃ by use of optical microscope, electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction. It has been found that there existed the T phase in the seven alloys. Consequently, it was testified that the T phase was stable at room temperature. | 10 | EFFECTS OF TREATMENT TIME ON CORROSION OF DIFFUSION-ALLOYED COATINGS OF PURE MAGNESIUM显示文摘The corrosion resistance of pure magnesium with surface alloying layer obtained by a solid diffusion alloying technique has been analyzed. To establish the optimum treatment time, the experiments were performed at 480℃ for different solid diffusion time (8, 16, and 24h). The diffusion interaction effectiveness between Zn, Al mix powder and the sample surface, depending on the treatment time for diffusion at given temperatures, has an obvious influence on corrosion resistance and corrosion mechanism. Corrosion properties were studied using the constant immersion test (in 3.0% NaCl solution, temperature is (28±1)℃, and time is 96h). Optical microscopy (OM) and EDS (energy dispersive spectrum) composition analysis were used to examine the cross-sectional microstructural characteristics of alloyed layer of treated samples. It is shown that in comparison with the untreated samples, the treated ones possess a better corrosion resistance. The Al5Mg11Zn4 phase, which formed as a continuous phase due to the diffusion of Al, Zn, and Mg elements and subsequent interaction on the outermost layer of diffusion alloying zones (especially the samples treated for 24h at 480℃), was inert to the chloride solution compared with pure magnesium and acted as a corrosion barrier, and therefore the best corrosion resistance was obtained. This protective action of A_(l5)Mg_(11)Zn_4 phase was found to change with its amount, which was controlled by the diffusion time at given temperature. It was concluded that the continuous A_(l5)Mg_(11)Zn_4 phase (WP-zone) of the reacted layer in pure magnesium was beneficial from the point of view of corrosion resistance. | Y.P. Ma J. Li J. Zhu L.
