1Dust dispersion and management in underground mining faces显示文摘Presence of fine dust in air causes serious health hazard for mine operators resulting in such serious problems as coal workers’pneumoconiosis and silicosis.Major sources of dust appear of course along the mining face where the minerals are extracted.Proper control and management are required to ensure safe working environment in the mine.Here,we utilize the computational fluid dynamic(CFD)approach to evaluate various methods used for mitigating dust dispersion from the mining face and for ensuring safe level of dust concentration in the mine tunnel for safety of the operators.The methods used include:application of blowing and exhaust fans,application of brattice and combination of both.The results suggest that among the examined methods,implementation of appropriately located brattice to direct the flow from the main shaft to the mining face is the most effective method to direct dust particles away from the mining face.Kurnia Jundika Candra Sasmito Agus Pulung Mujumdar Arun Sadashiv 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,1:39
2Machine learning in materials informatics:recent applications and prospects显示文摘Propelled partly by the Materials Genome Initiative,and partly by the algorithmic developments and the resounding successes of data-driven efforts in other domains,informatics strategies are beginning to take shape within materials science.These approaches lead to surrogate machine learning models that enable rapid predictions based purely on past data rather than by direct experimentation or by computations/simulations in which fundamental equations are explicitly solved.Data-centric informatics methods are becoming useful to determine material properties that are hard to measure or compute using traditional methods—due to the cost,time or effort involved—but for which reliable data either already exists or can be generated for at least a subset of the critical cases.Predictions are typically interpolative,involving fingerprinting a material numerically first,and then following a mapping(established via a learning algorithm)between the fingerprint and the property of interest.Fingerprints,also referred to as“descriptors”,may be of many types and scales,as dictated by the application domain and needs.Predictions may also be extrapolative—extending into new materials spaces—provided prediction uncertainties are properly taken into account.This article attempts to provide an overview of some of the recent successful data-driven“materials informatics”strategies undertaken in the last decade,with particular emphasis on the fingerprint or descriptor choices.The review also identifies some challenges the community is facing and those that should be overcome in the near future.Rampi Ramprasad Rohit Batra Ghanshyam Pilania Arun Mannodi-Kanakkithodi Chiho Kim 2017npj Computational Materials2017,,1:40
3低温水热法制备竹生物炭及其对有机物的吸附性能显示文摘竹是一类常见的生物质资源,竹加工中产生的废弃物是制生物炭的理想原料。该研究采用水热炭化法,在较低的水热温度下制备竹生物炭,并通过Na OH浸泡和N2氛围下高温煅烧2种方法,对竹生物炭进行进一步改性,所得产品用于去除水溶液中2-萘酚和刚果红。结果显示:仅采用水热炭化得到的竹生物炭产品得率大于54%,表面官能团丰富,均能吸附水溶液中的2-萘酚和刚果红,其中160℃3 h下制备的样品对2-萘酚吸附效果最好,200℃7 h下制备的样品对刚果红吸附效果最好;改性处理会降低终产品得率并影响表面官能团,Na OH浸泡改性处理能增加竹生物炭对2-萘酚和刚果红的吸附容量,N2氛围下高温煅烧改性则不能提高竹生物炭对这2种物质的吸附效果。研究结果可为废弃生物质制炭及生物炭在水污染物吸附分离中的应用提供参考。李音 单胜道 杨瑞芹 盖希坤 毛建卫 黄宁宁 钭焱萍 Meas Arun 2016农业工程学报2016,32,24:27

5Trends in prevalence of diabetes in Asian countries显示文摘Diabetes is a major lifestyle disorder,the prevalence of which is increasing globally.Asian countries contribute to more than 60% of the world's diabetic population as the prevalence of diabetes is increasing in these countries.Socio-economic growth and industrialization are rapidly occurring in many of these countries.The urban-rural divide in prevalence is narrowing as urbanization is spreading widely,adversely affecting the lifestyle of populations.Asians have a strong ethnic and genetic predisposition for diabetes and have lower thresholds for the environmental risk factors.As a result,they develop diabetes at a younger age and at a lower body mass index and waist circumference when compared with the Western population.The adverse effect of physical inactivity and fatty food are manifested as the increasing rate of overweightness and obesity,even among children.The health care budgets for the disease management are meager and the health care outcome is far from the optimum.As a result,complications of diabetes are common and the economic burden is very high,especially among the poor strata of the society.National endeavors are urgently needed for early diagnosis,effective management and for primary prevention of diabetes.This editorial aims to highlight the rising trend in prevalence of diabetes in Asia,its causative factors and the urgent need to implement national strategies for primary prevention of type 2 diabetes.Ambady Ramachandran Chamukuttan Snehalatha Ananth Samith Shetty Arun Nanditha 2012World Journal of Diabetes2012,3,6:23

7Human amniotic membrane transplantation: Different modalities of its use in ophthalmology显示文摘The amniotic membrane(AM) is the inner layer of the fetal membranes and consist of 3 different layers: the epithelium, basement membrane and stroma which further consists of three contiguous but distinct layers: the inner compact layer, middle fibroblast layer and the outermost spongy layer. The AM has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, anti-angiogenic as well as anti-microbial properties. Also because of its transparent structure, lack of immunogenicity and the ability to provide an excellent substrate for growth, migration and adhesion of epithelial corneal and conjunctival cells, it is being used increasingly for ocular surface reconstruction in a variety of ocular pathologies including corneal disorders associated with limbal stem cell deficiency, surgeries for conjunctival reconstruction, as a carrier for ex vivo expansion of limbal epithelial cells, glaucoma surgeries and sceral melts and perforations. However indiscriminate use of human AM needs to be discouraged as complications though infrequent can occur. These include risk of transmission of bacterial, viral or fungal infections to the recipient if the donors are not adequately screened for communicable diseases, if the membrane is not processed under sterile condi-tions or if storage is improper. Optimal outcomes can be achieved only with meticulous case selection. 9Imaging and interventions in hilar cholangiocarcinoma: A review显示文摘Hilar cholangiocarcinoma is a common malignant tumor of the biliary tree. It has poor prognosis with very low 5-year survival rates. Various imaging modalities are available for detection and staging of the hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Although ultrasonography is the initial investigation of choice, imaging with contrast enhanced computed tomography scan or magnetic resonance imaging is needed prior to management. Surgery is curative wherever possible. Radiological interventions play a role in operable patients in theform of biliary drainage and/or portal vein embolization. In inoperable cases, palliative interventions include biliary drainage, biliary stenting and intra-biliary palliative treatment techniques. 10Diffusion weighted imaging: Technique and applications显示文摘Diffusion weighted imaging(DWI) is a method of signal contrast generation based on the differences in Brownian motion. DWI is a method to evaluate the molecular function and micro-architecture of the human body. DWI signal contrast can be quantified by apparent diffusion coefficient maps and it acts as a tool for treatment respon-se evaluation and assessment of disease progression. Ability to detect and quantify the anisotropy of diffusion leads to a new paradigm called diffusion tensor imaging(DTI). DTI is a tool for assessment of the organs with highly organised fibre structure. DWI forms an integral part of modern state-of-art magnetic resonance imaging and is indispensable in neuroimaging and oncology. DWI is a field that has been undergoing rapid technical evolution and its applications are increasing every day. 11维生素E对术后首次行131I治疗的分化型甲状腺癌患者唾液腺功能的保护作用显示文摘目的 前瞻性探讨首次131I清除甲状腺残余组织(简称清甲)治疗对DTC患者唾液腺功能的影响及口服维生素E对唾液腺的保护作用.方法 随机选择2014年3月至2015年12月天津医科大学总医院核医学科60例DTC术后患者进入对照组(男10例,女20例,年龄26 ~ 69岁)和试验组(男8例,女22例,年龄31~75岁),均为术后首次服131I患者(剂量3.7 GBq);其中对照组无需特殊准备,而试验组需于服131I前1周至服131I后1个月口服维生素E.2组患者分别于服131I前4h及服131I后6个月行2次99TcmO4-唾液腺显像,计算摄取分数(UF)、摄取指数(UI)、排泌分数(EF)、排泄率(ER)等参数,以评估唾液腺功能变化.应用配对样本t检验及两样本t检验进行统计学分析.结果 对照组治疗后双侧腮腺UF及双侧颌下腺UF、UI均大于治疗前(t=2.525~ 3.335,均P<0.05).试验组治疗后右侧颌下腺UI、EF及左侧颌下腺UF、UI、ER均小于治疗前(t=-4.704~-2.364,均P<0.05).治疗前,试验组双侧腮腺UF、右侧颌下腺UI及左侧颌下腺UF、UI均高于对照组(=-6.507~-1.794,均P<0.05);治疗后,试验组双侧腮腺UI均高于对照组(t=-2.134和-2.462,均P<0.05).结论 首次131I清甲治疗可能会对唾液腺的储备功能造成损害,口服维生素E可以减轻这一影响,在一定程度上起到保护唾液腺的作用.王澎 孟召伟 谭建 张桂芝 李雪 刘娜 胡天鹏 Arun Upadhyaya 2016中华核医学与分子影像杂志2016,36,5:17

13Phasor measurement units, WAMS, and their applications in protection and control of power systems显示文摘The paper provides a short history of the phasor measurement unit(PMU) concept. The origin of PMU is traced to the work on developing computer based distance relay using symmetrical component theory. PMUs evolved from a portion of this relay architecture. The need for synchronization using global positioning system(GPS) is discussed, and the wide area measurement system(WAMS) utilizing PMU signals is described. 15Review on mechanism and process of surface polishing using lasers显示文摘Laser polishing is a technology of smoothening the surface of various materials with highly intense laser beams. When these beams impact on the material surface to be polished, the surface starts to be melted due to the high temperature. The melted material is then relocated from the ‘peaks to valleys’ under the multidirectional action of surface tension. By varying the process parameters such as beam intensity, energy density, spot diameter, and feed rate, different rates of surface roughness can be achieved. High precision polishing of surfaces can be done using laser process. Currently, laser polishing has extended its applications from photonics to molds as well as bio-medical sectors. Conventional polishing techniques have many drawbacks such as less capability of polishing freeform surfaces, environmental pollution, long processing time, and health hazards for the operators. Laser polishing on the other hand eliminates all the mentioned drawbacks and comes as a promising technology that can be relied for smoothening of initial topography of the surfaces irrespective of the complexity of the surface. Majority of the researchers performed laser polishing on materials such as steel, titanium, and its alloys because of its low cost and reliability. This article gives a detailed overview of the laser polishing mechanism by explaining various process parameters briefly to get a better understanding about the entire polishing process. 17Cytotoxic genes from traditional Chinese medicine inhibit tumor growth both in vitro and in vivo显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Little effort has been made to study the protein-encoding genes isolated from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) drugs, and the delivery of these genes into malignant cells through recombinant adeno-associated virus(r AAV) vectors has not been attempted. METHODS: We synthesized the c DNAs of five known cytotoxic proteins isolated from TCM drugs and the FLAG epitope-tagged c DNAs were subcloned into a r AAV plasmid vector. The protein expression was confi rmed by Western blot assay. Various cancer cell lines were transfected with the above plasmids and cell growth was monitored both in vitro and in vivo. The best cytotoxic gene was further packaged into r AAV vectors, under the control of a liver cancer-specifi c promoter. The liver tumor growth was then monitored following intratumor administration of the r AAV vectors.RESULTS: The expression plasmids, encoding individual potential cytotoxic genes tagged with FLAG epitope, were successfully generated and sequenced. Among these genes, trichosanthin(TCS) gene yielded the most promising results for the inhibition of cancer cell growth in vitro. The over-expressed TCS functioned as a type I ribosome-inactivating protein, followed by inducing apoptosis that is associated with the Bcl-PARP signaling pathway. 19Coronal shear fractures of distal humerus: Diagnostic and treatment protocols显示文摘Coronal shear fractures of distal humerus involving the capitellum and the trochlea are rare injuries with articular complexity, and are technically challenging for management. With better understanding of the anatomy and imaging advancements, the complex nature of these fractures is well appreciated now. These fractures involve metaphysealcomminution of lateral column and associated intraarticular injuries are common. Previously, closed reduction and excision were the accepted treatment but now preference is for open reduction and internal fixation with an aim to provide stable and congruent joint with early range of motion of joint. Various approaches including extensile lateral, anterolateral and posterior approaches have been described depending on the fracture pattern and complexity. Good to excellent outcome have been reported with internal fixations and poor results are noted in articular comminution with associated articular injuries. Various implants including headleass compression screws, minifragment screws, bioabsorbable implants and column plating are advocated for reconstruction of these complex fractures. Inspite of articular fragments being free of soft tissue attachments the rate of osteonecrosis and osteoarthritis is reported very less after internal fixation. 20Affinity peptide developed by phage display selection for targeting gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To develop an affinity peptide that binds to gastric cancer used for the detection of early gastric cancer.METHODS:A peptide screen was performed by biopanning the PhD-12 phage display library,clearing non-specific binders against tumor-adjacent normal appearing gastric mucosa and obtaining selective binding against freshly harvested gastric cancer tissues.Tumortargeted binding of selected peptides was confirmed by bound phage counts,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,competitive inhibition,fluorescence microscopy and semi-quantitative analysis on immunohistochemistry using different types of cancer tissues.RESULTS:Approximately 92.8% of the non-specific phage clones were subtracted from the original phage library after two rounds of biopanning against normal-appearing gastric mucosa.After the third round of positive screening,the peptide sequence AADNAKTKSFPV(AAD) appeared in 25%(12/48) of the analyzed phages.For the control peptide,these values were 6.8 ± 2.3,5.1 ± 1.7,3.5 ± 2.1,4.6 ± 1.9 and 1.1 ± 0.5,respectively.The values for AAD peptide were statistically signif icant(P < 0.01) for gastric cancer as compared with other histological classif ications and control peptide.CONCLUSION:A novel peptide is discovered to have a specific binding activity to gastric cancer,and can be used to distinguish neoplastic from normal gastric mucosa,demonstrating the potential for early cancer detection on endoscopy.Wen-Jie Zhang Yan-Xia Sui Arun Budha Jian-Bao Zheng Xue-Jun Sun Ying-Chun Hou Thomas D Wang Shao-Ying Lu 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,17:12
