| 3 | LASER LIFT-OFF OF GaN THIN FILMS FROM SAPPHIRE SUBSTRATES显示文摘Gallium Nitride film was successfully separated from sapphire substrate by laser radiation. The absorption of the 248nm radiation by the GaN at the interface results in rapid thermal decomposition of the interfacial layer, yielding metallic Ga and N2 gas. The substrate can be easily removed by heating above the Ga melting point (29℃). X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and Photoluminescence of CaN before and after lift-off process have been performed, which demonstrated that the separation and transfer process do not alter the structural quality of the GaN films. And further discussions on the threshold energy and crack-free strategies of laser lift-off process have also been presented. | J. Xu, R. Zhang, Y.P. Wang, X.Q. Xiu, S.L. Gu, B. Shen, Y. Shi, Z.G. | 4 | EXPERIMENTS OF HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY OF IMMERSED TUBE TUNNEL ON TRANSPORTATION AND IMMERSING显示文摘Effects of environment conditions, such as current, wave etc., are more important for immersed tube tunnel’s transportation and immersing. The hydrodynamics and stability of immersed tube tunnel during its towing and immersing are intersted for departments of design and construction. A serial model tests are made in towing tank and water channel for Nanjing immersed tube tunnel, and the first immersed tunnel has been designed in Yangtzi River in China. The hydrodynamic forces and rope tensions of the tunnel are measured with strain balances when it is towed by ship and immersed by winches for a different current velocity and wave height. In addition, the stability of tunnel for a different ballast water is tested and discussed. | Zhan, D.X. Wang, X.Q. | 2001 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2001,13,2: | 9 |
| 5 | Strengthening mechanisms in magnesium alloys containing ternary Ⅰ,W and LPSO phases显示文摘This study was aimed at identifying underlying strengthening mechanisms and predicting the yield strength of as-extruded Mg-Zn-Y alloys with varying amounts of yttrium(Y) element. The addition of Y resulted in the formation of ternary I(Mg_3 YZn_6), W(Mg_3 Y_2 Zn_3) and LPSO(Mg_(12) YZn) phases which subsequently reinforced alloys ZM31 + 0.3 Y, ZM31 + 3.2 Y and ZM31 + 6 Y, where the value denoted the amount of Y element(in wt%). Yield strength of the alloys was determined via uniaxial compression testing, and grain size and second-phase particles were characterized using OM and SEM. In-situ high-temperature XRD was performed to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE), which was derived to be 1.38 × 10^(-5 K^(-1) and 2.35 × 10^(-5) K^(-1) for W and LPSO phases, respectively. The individual strengthening effects in each material were quantified for the first time, including grain refinement, Orowan looping, thermal mismatch, dislocation density, load-bearing, and particle shearing contributions. Grain refinement was one of the major strengthening mechanisms and it was present in all the alloys studied, irrespective of the second-phase particles. Orowan looping and CTE mismatch were the predominant strengthening mechanisms in the ZM31 + 0.3 Y and ZM31 + 3.2 Y alloys containing I and W phases, respectively, while load-bearing and second-phase shearing were the salient mechanisms contributing largely to the superior yield strength of the LPSO-reinforced ZM31 + 6 Y alloy. | N.Tahreen D.F. | 6 | A CELLULAR AUTOMATON-APPROACH TO SIMULATION OFGRAIN STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT INELECTROSLAG CASTING显示文摘A 3-D cellular automaton model of thermal transfer and solidification has been developed, aiming at a simulational study of the grain structure development in electroslag casting. The program we developed for simulation of the model allows the effects of both metallurgical factors, including solidification point, supercooling required for nucleation and its scattering, and liquid/solid interface energy, and thermophysical factors, including heat conduction coeffcients, heat transfer coefficients and latent heat, to be investigated. The effect of process control can be indirectly inspected with the simulation by varying the melting rate. A box counting algorithm was employed to estimate the local curvature of liquid/solid interface. A series of simulated experiments of electroslag casting processes have been carried out. The simulation started from the beginning of the electroslag casting and proceeds by iteration of certain rules, during which a uniform constant slag temperature and a constant melting rate were assumed. It has been observed that a pool of molten metal forms and deepens gradually under constant melting rate. The deepening of the pool slows down with the simulated electroslag casting process, and the depth and shape of the pool tends to be steady after certain height of cast is formed. A finger-like grain structure with the fingers approximately normal to the bottom of the molten metal pool was generally observed. Higher latent heat was found to enhance dendritic growth. The results agree well with general observation of the grain structures in electroslag castings and demonstrate the applicability of cellular automaton modeling to structural development in casting. | X.Q. | 7 | MODELING OF STATIC RECRYSTALLIZATION KINETICS OF Nb-BEARING STEELS显示文摘By using isothermal double hit compression tests and applying the 2% offset method, a new model was developed to predict the microstructural evolution of Nb-bearing steels at temperatures above and below the start temperature of strain-induced precipitation (TP). The TP was developed as a function of true strain, initial austenite grain size and the Nb content. The activation energy of static recrystallization (Qrex) was expressed as a function of the content of different alloy elements. It was found that Nb played the most important role in increasing the value of Qrex. The microstructural observations and measurements confirmed the validity of the model developed in the present investigation. | L.Q. Ma Z.Y. Liu S.H. Jiao X.Q. Yuan D. | 13 | MICROSTRUCTURAL STUDY OF Fe-Cr-Al/Al COMPOSITE COATINGS DURING OXIDATION AND SULFIDATION AT 900℃显示文摘The microstructure of a composite coating system, which was composed of an inner layer of Fe-Cr-Al and an outer layer of aluminum, was studied after it was respectively oxidized and sulfurdized at elevated temperatures. Apart from the Al2O3 scale formed on the surface, the microstructure of the composite coatings exposed at 900℃ in air for 4h was a three-layer structure. The first layer consisted of a solid solution of Cr and Fe in α aluminum and an intermetallic compound FeAl3,while the second layer was a single phase of the aluminide and the third layer still remained the same appearance as the original Fe-Cr-Al coating. The microstructural observation of the specimen tested at 850-900℃ at low oxygen pressure and high sulfur pressure for 576h revealed that the surface coatings of the specimen had transformed into a duplex structure containing an outer layer and a thicker aluminide layer beneath. X-ray diffraction results showed that the out layer was composed of Al2S3 and Al2O3 and that AlCrFe2 was the main phase composition of the aluminide layer, with a few of Al2S3 and Al2O3 accompanied. | Z.L. | 16 | EFFECTS OF Zn CONCENTRATION ON WETTABILITY OF Sn-Zn ALLOY ON Cu AND ON THE INTERFACIAL MICROSTRUCTURE BETWEEN Sn-Zn ALLOY AND Cu显示文摘The potential of using a hypoeutectic, instead of eutectic, Sn-Zn alloy as a lead-free solder has been discussed. The nonequilibrium melting behaviors of a series of Sn-Zn alloys were examined by differential thermal analysis. It was found that at a heating rate of 5℃ / min, Sn-6.5Zn exhibited no melting range. Dipping and spreading tests were carried out to characterize the wettability of Sn-Zn alloys on Cu. Both tests exhibited that Sn-6.5Zn has significantly better wettability on Cu than Sn-9Zn. The reaction layers formed during the spreading tests were examined. When the Zn concentration fell between 2.5wt%-9wt%, two reaction layers were formed at the interface, a thick and flat Cu5Zn8 adjacent to Cu and a thin and irregular Cu-Zn-Sn layer adjacent to the alloy. Only a Cu6Sn5 layer was formed when the Zn concentration decreased to 0.5wt%. The total thickness of the reaction layer(s) between the alloy and Cu was found to increase linearly with the Zn concentration. | H.Z. Huang X.Q. Wei L. Zhou X.D. Liu G.L.
