| 1 | Current Status in Layered Ternary Carbide Ti_3SiC_2,a Review显示文摘This article provides a review of current research activities that concentrate on Ti3SiC2. We begin with an overview of the crystal and electronic structures, which are the basis to understand this material. Followings are the synthetic strategies that have been exploited to achieve, and the formation mechanism of Ti3SiC2. Then we devote much attentions to the mechanical properties and oxidation/hot corrosion behaviors of Ti3SiC2 as well as some advances achieved recently. | 2 | A STUDY ON ALUMINIDE COATINGS ON TiAl ALLOYS BY PACKCEMENTATION METHOD显示文摘The halide-activated pack cementation method is utilized to deposit aluminide coat- ings on TiAl alloys. Emphasis is placed on the effect of alloying elements on the aluminizing behavior of TiAl alloy. The addition of a small amount of Nb or Cr in the TiAl improves significantly the aluminizing kinetics of TiAl alloys by increasing the solid-state division of Al through the formation of stable TiAl3 layer. The TiAl3 layer formed on the TiAl alloyed with Nb or Cr has better toughness than the TiAl3 formed on the non-alloyed TiAl. The reason for better toughness of the coating formed on TiAl is that partial TiAl3 with tetragonal structure was changed to high symmetry cubic L12 structure since Nb or Cr was dissolved into TiAl3. The TiAl3 layer formed on the TiAl alloyed with Nb or Cr has much better oxidation resistance than the TiAl3 layer formed on the non-alloyed TiAl. It is attributed to change in the crystal structure of TiAl3 from the brittle tetragonal DO22 to the ductile cubic L12 by addition of small amount of Nb or Cr. | C.G. Zhou, H.B. Xu and S.K. | 3 | CORROSION MONITORING OF LY12 IN SODIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION WITH ELECTROCHEMICAL NOISE TECHNIQUE显示文摘Spontaneous electrochemical noise (EN) can be a rich source of information concerning the processes simultaneously occurring on a corroding interface. But the noise signal is often difficult to be analyzed due to the complicated nature of the specific systems being investigated. In this paper the potential noise fluctuations during the bee corrosion of commercial aluminum alloy LY12 in sodium chloride solution was recorded and analyzed with different techniques. The typical results showed that the fractal dimension (Dn) obtained from spectral power density (SPD) is mainly directly proportional to the intensity of pitting corrosion and to the value of pitting parameter (SE) derived hem dimensional analysis, while the fractal dimension (DE) obtained from EIS is mainly related to the uniform corrosion. | J.Q. | 4 | MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Mg-Li ALLOY WITH Ca ADDITION显示文摘Mg-9wt%Li-2wt%Zn alloy was prepared and studied in this article. The addition of Ca to the alloy from 0.1wt% to 1wt% can refine the α-Mg and the best effect of refinement occurs when Ca content is 0.4wt%-0.5wt%. The billets can be rolled to thin sheets at room temperature, from which it is obvious that the addition of Ca improves alloys’ formality, while it decreases with the excess addition of Ca. The results also show that the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield strength (YS) of the alloy with 1wt% Ca may rise by 28% and 25%, respectively, however, the elongation decreases. It is clarified that the adsorption of proper Ca on the grain boundaries refines α-Mg and improves the tensile properties, but the presence of excess Ca and stable Ca2Mg6Zn3 phase worsens the elongation. | H.B. | 6 | EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL GROUP-CONTAINING ORGANICS ON MORPHOLOGY-CONTROLLED SYNTHESIS OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES AT ROOM TEMPERATURE显示文摘Silver nanoparticles with average particles sizes ranging from 2 to 131nm were manipulatively synthesized starting from silver nitrate using different functional group-containing organic modifiers at room temperature. The effects of the organic modifiers on the morphology of the resulting silver nanoparticles were strongly dependent on the intrinsic properties of the functional groups and the reducibility of the reductant. Numerous ether bonds (-O-) present in polyethylene glycol and Tween-80 were beneficial to the formation of silver nanoparticles with particle sizes of several nanometers in a narrow size distribution in both weak and strong reducing environments. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide induced the formation of nanosized silver triangle plates in a weak reducing environment. The crystal growth of the silver nanoparticles with particle sizes of more than 10nm was postulated through an adhesion process of small-sized particles followed by a subsequent coalescence process under the present reaction conditions. | A.L. | 7 | CODEPOSITION OF ALUMINUM AND SILICON ON PURE MOLYBDENUM SUBSTRATE USING HALIDE ACTIVATED PACK CEMENTATION TREATMENTS显示文摘A multi-component diffusion coating has been developed to protect Mo-based alloys from high temperature environmental attack. Aluminum addition was made during the coating process to improve the oxidation resistance by developing hexagonal Mo(Si, Al)2 through the development of the halide activated pack cementation coating process on pure Mo substrate. The results show that Mo(Si, Al)2 formed as a main phase on the surface and a little amount of Mo5Si3 also formed. The total thickness of coating is tens ofμm at 1373K. During the cyclic oxidation test at high temperature(at about 1323K in air), mullite (3Al2O3.2SiO2) and some SiO2 formed. The addition of Al is beneficial for MoSi2 coating and the Al-doped coating exhibited only a small weight gain and protected the Mo substrate, while the MoSi2 coating without Al suffered a significant weight loss, indicating a loss of volatile MoO3 after cycles. | J.L. | 14 | PREDICTION OF FLOW STRESS OF HIGH-SPEED STEEL DURING HOT DEFORMATION BY USING BP ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK显示文摘The hot deformation behavior of TI (18W-4Cr-1V) high-speed steel was investigated by means of continuous compression tests performed on Gleeble 1500 thermomechan- ical simulator in a wide range of tempemtures (950℃-1150℃) with strain rotes of 0.001s-1-10s-1 and true strains of 0-0. 7. The flow stress at the above hot defor- mation conditions is predicted by using BP artificial neural network. The architecture of network includes there are three input parameters:strain rate,temperature T and true strain , and just one output parameter, the flow stress ,2 hidden layers are adopted, the first hidden layer includes 9 neurons and second 10 negroes. It has been verified that BP artificial neural network with 3-9-10-1 architecture can predict flow stress of high-speed steel during hot deformation very well. Compared with the prediction method of flow stress by using Zaped-Holloman parumeter and hyperbolic sine stress function, the prediction method by using BP artificial neurul network has higher efficiency and accuracy. | J. | 20 | Assessment of deterioration in RHA-concrete due to magnesium sulphate attack显示文摘The assessment of magnesium sulphate attack on concretes containing rice husk ash (RHA, 20wt% of the cementitious materials) with various average particle sizes was investigated. The total cementitious materials were 390 kg and the water-to-binder ratio (W/B) was 0.53 for all mixtures. Specimens were initially cured in water for 7 d and then immersed in the 3wt% magnesium sulphate solution for up to 111 d of exposure. The specimens were subjected to drying-wetting cycles to accelerate sulphate attack. In addition to the visual monitoring of the specimens, the concrete specimens were subsequently tested for compressive strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, and length and mass changes. The results show that the specimens exposed to sulphate attack exhibit higher strength and dynamic modulus than those kept in water. The length change is negligible and can be attributed to the normal swelling of concrete. On the other hand, concretes suffers mass loss and surface spalling and softening; the fine RHA-concrete results in a better resistance. For the accelerated sulphate attack method used in this study, mass change and visual monitoring are recommended for assessing the deterioration degree and the effectiveness of supplementary cementitious materials to resist sulphate attack. | G.A.
