1S100B protein in the gut:The evidence for enteroglial-sustained intestinal inflammation显示文摘Glial cells in the gut represent the morphological and functional equivalent of astrocytes and microglia in the central nervous system (CNS). In recent years, the role of enteric glial cells (EGCs) has extended from that of simple nutritive support for enteric neurons to that of being pivotal participants in the regulation of inflammatory events in the gut. Similar to the CNS astrocytes, the EGCs physiologically express the S100B protein that exerts either trophic or toxic effects depending on its concentration in the extracellular milieu. In the CNS, S100B overexpression is responsible for the initiation of a gliotic reaction by the release of pro-inflammatory mediators, which may have a deleterious effect on neighboring cells. S100B-mediated pro-inflammatory effects are not limited to the brain: S100B overexpression is associated with the onset and maintenance of inflammation in the human gut too. 2Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis显示文摘Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis(PCI) is a rare condition that may be associated with a variety of diseases.The presenting clinical picture may be very heterogeneous and represent a challenge for the clinician.In the present paper we describe both a common and an uncommon clinical presentation of PCI and review the pertaining literature.Our cases confirm that,apart from asymptomatic cases,the clinical presentation of PCI may be widely different and suggest that a new onset of stipsis might be the presenting symptom.Diagnosis might be suggested by a simple X-ray of the digestive tract showing a change in the characteristics of the intestinal wall in two-thirds of these patients.However,one third of the patients do not have a suggestive X-ray and require a computed tomography(CT) scan/nuclear magnetic resonance that may reveal a thickened bowel wall containing gas to confirm the diagnosis and distinguish PCI from intraluminal air or submucosal fat.CT also allows the detection of additional findings that may suggest an underlying,potentially worrisome cause of PCI such as bowel wall thickening,altered contrast mucosal enhancement,dilated bowel,soft tissue stranding,ascites and the presence of portal air.Our results also point out that clinicians and endoscopists should be aware of the possible presentations of PCI in order to correctly manage the patients affected with this disease and avoid unnecessary surgeries.The increasing number of colonoscopies performed for colon cancer screening makes PCI more frequently casually encountered and/or provoked,therefore the possible endoscopic appearances of this disease should be well known by endoscopists.Francesco Azzaroli Laura Turco Liza Ceroni Stefania Sartoni Galloni Federica Buonfiglioli Claudio Calvanese Giuseppe Mazzella 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,44:16

5Polyetheretherketone and titanium surface treatments to modify roughness and wettability–Improvement of bioactivity and antibacterial properties显示文摘Among the materials available for implant production,titanium is the most used while polyetheretherketone(PEEK)is emerging thanks to its stability and to the mechanical properties similar to the ones of the bone tissue.Material surface properties like roughness and wettability play a paramount role in cell adhesion,cell proliferation,osteointegration and implant stability.Moreover,the bacterial adhesion to the biomaterial and the biofilm formation depend on surface smoothness and hydrophobicity.In this work,two different treatments,sandblasting and air plasma,were used to increase respectively roughness and wettability of two materials:titanium and PEEK.Their effects were analyzed with profilometry and contact angle measurements.The biological properties of the material surfaces were also investigated in terms of cell adhesion and proliferation of NIH-3T3 cells,MG63 cells and human Dental Pulp Stem Cells.Moreover,the ability of Staphylococcus aureus to adhere and form a viable biofilm on the samples was evaluated.The biological properties of both treatments and both materials were compared with samples of Synthegra;titanium,which underwent laser ablation to obtain a porous micropatterning,characterized by a smooth surface to discourage bacterial adhesion.All cell types used were able to adhere and proliferate on samples of the tested materials.Cell adhesion was higher on sandblasted PEEK samples for both MG63 and NIH-3T3 cell lines,on the contrary,the highest proliferation rate was observed on sandblasted titanium and was only slightly dependent on wettability;h DPSCs were able to proliferate similarly on sandblasted samples of both tested materials.The highest osteoblast differentiation was observed on laser micropatterned titanium samples,but similar effects,even if limited,were also observed on both sandblasted materials and air plasma treated titanium.The lowest bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation was observed on micropatterned titanium samples whereas,the highest biofilm formation was detected on sandblasted PEEK samples,and in particular on samples not treated with air-plasma,which displayed the highest hydrophobicity.The results of this work showed that all the tested materials were able to sustain osteoblast adhesion and promote cell proliferation;moreover,this work highlights the feasible PEEK treatments which allow to obtain surface properties similar to those of titanium.The results here reported,clearly show that cell behavior depends on a complex combination of surface properties like wettability and roughness and material nature,and while a rough surface is optimal for cell adhesion,a smooth and less hydrophilic surface is the best choice to limit bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation.Davide Porrelli Mario Mardirossian Nicola Crapisi Marco Urban Nicola Andrea Ulian Lorenzo Bevilacqua Gianluca Turco Michele Maglione 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,36:2

9邮轮上固体氧化物燃料电池装置的案例研究显示文摘The work is a case study of a cruise ship supplied by liquefied natural gas(LNG)and equipped with a solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC).It is supposed that a 20 MW SOFC plant is installed on-board to supply hotel loads and assisting three dual-fuel(DF)diesel/LNG generator sets.LNG consumption and emissions are estimated both for the SOFC plant and DF generator sets.It results that the use of LNG-SOFC plant in comparison to DF generator sets allows to limit significantly the SO_(x),CO,NO_(x),PM emissions and to reduce the emission of CO_(2)by about 11%.A prediction of the weight and volume of the SOFC plant is conducted and a preliminary modification of the general arrangement of the cruise ship is suggested,according to the latest international rules.It results that the SOFC plant is heavier and occupies more volume on board than a DF gen-set;nevertheless,these features do not affect the floating and the stability of the cruise ship.Luca Micoli Tommaso Coppola Maria Turco 2021Journal of Marine Science and Application2021,20,3:2
