| 2 | Effects of rhubarb(Rheum ribes L.)syrup on dysenteric diarrhea in children:a randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled trial显示文摘BACKGROUND:Rheum ribes L.is a plant native to China,Iran,Turkey,India,and a few other countries.Antidiarrheal activity is considered to be one of its important properties according to various systems of traditional medicine.An increasing rate of bacterial resistance to antibiotics has led to treatment failure in some cases of shigellosis in children,and underlines a need for safe,efficient and valid options.OBJECTIVE:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of R.ribes syrup as a complementary medicine for treatment of shigellosis in children.DESIGN,SETTING,PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS:This randomized,doubleblind,placebocontrolled trial started with a group of 150 children aged between 12–72 months with suspected Shigella dysentery.R.ribes syrup or placebo syrup was administered to the intervention and control groups,respectively for 5 days.In addition,the standard antibiotic treatment(ceftriaxone for the first 3 days and cefixime syrup for 2 further days)was administered to both groups.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Body temperature,abdominal pain,need for antipyretics,defecation frequency,stool volume and consistency and microscopic stool examination were recorded as outcome measures.Any observed adverse effects were also recorded.RESULTS:Mean duration of fever and diarrhea in the R.ribes group was significantly lower than that in the placebo group(P=0.016 and 0.001,respectively).In addition,patients in the R.ribes group showed shorter duration of need for antipyretics and shorter duration of abdominal pain(P=0.012 and 0.001,respectively).However,there were no significant differences between the two groups regarding the microscopic stool analyses.Furthermore,no adverse effect was reported.CONCLUSION:R.ribes syrup can be recommended as a complementary treatment for children with Shigella dysentery. | Ali Khiveh Mohammad Hashem Hashempur Mehrdad Shakiba Mohammad Hassan Lotfi Afsaneh Shakeri Seid Kazem Kazemeini Zohre Mousavi Marzie Jabbari Mohammad Kamalinejad Majid Emtiazy | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2017，15，5： | 3 |

| 4 | Investigation of the characteristics of particulate flows through fibrous filters using the lattice Boltzmann method显示文摘A fibrous filter is one of the most common systems used to separate suspended particles from air.Two important factors(i.e.,the pressure drop and capture efficiency) are usually used to evaluate the performance of this type of filter.This study considers three two-dimensional arrangements of fibers(parallel,staggered,and random) to geometrically model fibrous media.The lattice Boltzmann method is employed to numerically simulate fluid flow through the filter.The Lagrangian form of the equation of motion of a particle is numerically solved to track the path of each particle in the flow field,where a one-way interaction between the fluid and particles is considered.The effects of pertinent parameters such as the fiber arrangement,solid volume fraction,particle-to-fiber diameter ratio,particle-to-fluid density ratio,Reynolds number,Stokes number,and size of the fibrous medium on the pressure drop and capture efficiency are studied.The obtained results are compared with existing empirical and theoretical findings and discussed. | Marzie Babaie Rabiee Shahram Talebi Omid Abouali Ehsan Izadpanah | 2015 | Particuology2015，13，4： | 2 |
| 5 | Nonun ions of the humerus-Treatment concepts and results of the last five years显示文摘Puqjose: Fractures of the humerus account for 5%—8% of all fractures. Non union is Found with an incidence of up to 15%, depending on the location of the fracture. In case of a manifest nonunion the surgeon faces a challenging problem and has to conceive a therapy based on the underlying pathology. The aim of this study was to describe our treatment concepts for this entity and present our results of the last five years. Methods: Twenty-six patients were treated for nonunion of the humerus between January 2013 and December 2017. Their charts were reviewed retrospectively and demographic data, pathology, surgical treatment and outcome were assessed. Results: The most frequent location for a nonunion was the humeral shaft, with the most common trauma mechanism being multiple falls. Most often atrophic nonunion (n = 14), followed by hypertrophic and infection-caused nonunion (each n = 4), were found. Our treatment concept could be applied in 19 patients, of which in 90% of those who were available for follow-up consolidation could be achieved. Conclusion: Humeral non union is a heterogeneous entity that has to be analyzed precisely and be treated correspondingly.
