1Landslide inventory and susceptibility modelling using geospatial tools,in Hunza-Nagar valley,northern Pakistan显示文摘A comprehensive landslide inventory and susceptibility maps are prerequisite for developing and implementing landslide mitigation strategies. Landslide susceptibility maps for the landslides prone regions in northern Pakistan are rarely available. The Hunza-Nagar valley in northern Pakistan is known for its frequent and devastating landslides. In this paper, we have developed a landslide inventory map for Hunza-Nagar valley by using the visual interpretation of the SPOT-5 satellite imagery and mapped a total of 172 landslides. The landslide inventory was subsequently divided into modelling and validation data sets. For the development of landslide susceptibility map seven discrete landslide causative factors were correlated with the landslide inventory map using weight of evidence and frequency ratio statistical models. Four different models of conditional independence were used for the selection of landslide causative factors. The produced landslides susceptibility maps were validated by the success rate and area under curves criteria. The prediction power of the models was also validated with the prediction rate curve. The validation results shows that the success rate curves of the weight of evidence and the frequency models are 82% and 79%, respectively. The prediction accuracy results obtained from this study are 84% for weight of evidence model and 80% for the frequency ratio model. Finally, the landslide susceptibility index maps were classified into five different varying susceptibility zones. The validation and prediction result indicates that the weight of evidence and frequency ratio model are reliable to produce an accurate landslide susceptibility map, which may be helpful for landslides management strategies.Alam Sher BACHA Muhammad SHAFIQUE Harald van der WERFF 2018Journal of Mountain Science2018,15,6:8
2Landslide inventory and susceptibility assessment using multiple statistical approaches along the Karakoram highway,northern Pakistan显示文摘China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)is a framework of regional connectivity,which will not only benefit China and Pakistan but will have positive impact on Iran,Afghanistan,India,Central Asian Republic,and the region.The surrounding area in CPEC is prone to frequent disruption by geological hazards mainly landslides in northern Pakistan.Comprehensive landslide inventory and susceptibility assessment are rarely available to utilize for landslide mitigation strategies.This study aims to utilize the high-resolution satellite images to develop a comprehensive landslide inventory and subsequently develop landslide susceptibility maps using multiple techniques.The very high-resolution(VHR)satellite images are utilized to develop a landslide inventory using the visual image classification techniques,historic records and field observations.A total of 1632 landslides are mapped in the area.Four statistical models i.e.,frequency ratio,artificial neural network,weights of evidence and logistic regression were used for landslide susceptibility modeling by comparing the landslide inventory with the topographic parameters,geological features,drainage and road network.The developed landslides susceptibility maps were verified using the area under curve(AUC)method.The prediction power of the model was assessed by the prediction rate curve.The success rate curves show 93%,92.8%,92.7%and 87.4%accuracy of susceptibility maps for frequency ratio,artificial neural network,weights of evidence and logistic regression,respectively.The developed landslide inventory and susceptibility maps can be used for land use planning and landslide mitigation strategies.Mian Luqman HUSSAIN Muhammad SHAFIQUE Alam Sher BACHA CHEN Xiao-qing CHEN Hua-yong 2021Journal of Mountain Science2021,18,3:4
3Using Landsat images to monitor changes in the snow-covered area of selected glaciers in northern Pakistan显示文摘Landsat satellite images were used to map and monitor the snow-covered areas of four glaciers with different aspects(Passu: 36.473°N, 74.766°E;Momhil: 36.394°N, 75.085°E; Trivor: 36.249°N,74.968°E; and Kunyang: 36.083°N, 75.288°E) in the upper Indus basin, northern Pakistan, from 1990-2014. The snow-covered areas of the selected glaciers were identified and classified using supervised and rule-based image analysis techniques in three different seasons. Accuracy assessment of the classified images indicated that the supervised classification technique performed slightly better than the rule-based technique. Snow-covered areas on the selected glaciers were generally reduced during the study period but at different rates. Glaciers reached maximum areal snow coverage in winter and premonsoon seasons and minimum areal snow coverage in monsoon seasons, with the lowest snow-covered area occurring in August and September. The snowcovered area on Passu glacier decreased by 24.50%,3.15% and 11.25% in the pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, respectively. Similarly, the other three glaciers showed notable decreases in snow-covered area during the pre-and post-monsoon seasons; however, no clear changes were observed during monsoon seasons. During pre-monsoon seasons, the eastward-facing glacier lost comparatively more snow-covered area than the westward-facing glacier. The average seasonal glacier surface temperature calculated from the Landsat thermal band showed negative correlations of-0.67,-0.89,-0.75 and-0.77 with the average seasonal snowcovered areas of the Passu, Momhil, Trivor and Kunyang glaciers, respectively, during pre-monsoon seasons. 4Nitrogen management improves lodging resistance and production in maize(Zea mays L.)at a high plant density显示文摘Lodging in maize leads to yield losses worldwide.In this study,we determined the effects of traditional and optimized nitrogen management strategies on culm morphological characteristics,culm mechanical strength,lignin content,root growth,lodging percentage and production in maize at a high plant density.We compared a traditional nitrogen(N)application rate of 300 kg ha–1(R)and an optimized N application rate of 225 kg ha^(–1)(O)under four N application modes:50%of N applied at sowing and 50%at the 10th-leaf stage(N1);100%of N applied at sowing(N2);40%of N applied at sowing,40%at the 10th-leaf stage and 20%at tasseling stage(N3);and 30%of N applied at sowing,30%at the 10th-leaf stage,20%at the tasseling stage,and 20%at the silking stage(N4).The optimized N rate(225 kg ha^(–1))significantly reduced internode lengths,plant height,ear height,center of gravity height and lodging percentage.The optimized N rate significantly increased internode diameters,filling degrees,culm mechanical strength,root growth and lignin content.The application of N in four split doses(N4)significantly improved culm morphological characteristics,culm mechanical strength,lignin content,and root growth,while it reduced internode lengths,plant height,ear height,center of gravity height and lodging percentage.Internode diameters,filling degrees,culm mechanical strength,lignin content,number and diameter of brace roots,root volume,root dry weight,bleeding safe and grain yield were significantly negatively correlated with plant height,ear height,center of gravity height,internode lengths and lodging percentage.In conclusion,treatment ON4 significantly reduced the lodging percentage by improving the culm morphological characteristics,culm mechanical strength,lignin content,and root growth,so it improved the production of the maize crop at a high plant density.Irshad AHMAD Maksat BATYRBEK Khushnuma IKRAM Shakeel AHMAD Muhammad KAMRAN Misbah Raham Sher KHAN HOU Fu-jiang HAN Qing-fang 2023Journal of Integrative Agriculture2023,22,2:3

9Succinate-bonded pullulan: An efficient and reusable super-sorbent for cadmium-uptake from spiked high-hardness groundwater显示文摘Chemically modified pullulan was evaluated for its sorption efficiency and selectivity to remove cadmium(Cd) from spiked high-hardness groundwater(GW). Pullulan esterified with succinic anhydride using dimethylaminopyridine showed a fairly high degree of substitution value as confirmed by1 H NMR spectroscopy. Pullulan succinate(Pull-Suc) was converted into the sodium salt(Pull-Suc-Na). The effect of contact time(5–200 min) and p H(2–8) on Cd-uptake by the sorbent(Pull-Suc-Na) was investigated. The sorbent showed more than 90% Cd-removal in first 15 min from distilled water(DW) and GW solution,respectively. Comparison of Pull-Suc-Na with other polysaccharidal sorbents suggested its high efficiency(DW 476.2 mg/g and GW 454.5 mg/g) and selectivity for the removal of Cd by an ion exchange mechanism, which is further supported by the negative Gibbs free energy values calculated from Langmuir isotherms. A Langmuir isotherm kinetic model provided the best fit for the sorption of Cd using Pull-Suc-Na. The sorbent showed a negligible decrease in Cd-uptake over three regeneration cycles. 10Quantitative estimation of dust fall and smoke particles in Quetta Valley显示文摘Tightening of air quality standards for populated urban areas has led to increasing attention to assessment of air quality management areas, where violation of air quality standards occurs, and development of control strategies to eliminate such vio-lation of air quality standards. The Quetta urban area is very densely built and has heavy motorized traffic. The increase of emis-sions mainly from traffic and industry are responsible for the increase in atmospheric pollution levels during the last years. The dust examined in the current study was collected by both deposit gauge and Petri dish methods at various sites of Quetta Valley. Smoke particles were obtained by bladder method from the exhausts of various types of motor vehicles. 11Spatio-temporal changes in the six major glaciers of the Chitral River basin(Hindukush Region of Pakistan)between 2001 and 2018显示文摘Glaciers in the northern Pakistan are a distinctive source of freshwater for the irrigation,drinking and industrial water supplies of the people living in those regions and downstream. These glaciers are under a direct global warming impact as indicated in many previous studies. In this study, we estimated the glacier dynamics in terms of Equilibrium Line Altitude(ELA), mass balance and the snout position variation using remote sensing data between 2001 and 2018. Six glaciers, having area≥ 20 km2 each, situated in the Chitral region(Hindukush Mountains) were investigated in this study. Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and available cloud-free continuous series of Landsat and Sentinel satellite images from minimum snow cover season were used to monitor the variability in the studied glaciers by keeping the status of glaciers in year 2001 as a reference. The annual climatic trends of mean temperature and total precipitation from Chitral weather station were detected using the nonparametric Mann-Kendall’s test. Results revealed a general increase in the ELA, decrease in the glacier mass balance and the retreat of snout position.Average upward shift in the ELA for the entire study area and data period was ~345 ± 93 m at a rate of^13 m.a-1 from the reference year’s position i.e.~4803 m asl. Estimated mean mass balance for the entire study area indicated a decline of-0.106 ± 0.295 m w.e. a-1. 15Phosphorus-Mobilizing Rhizobacterial Strain Bacillus cereus GS6 Improves Symbiotic Efficiency of Soybean on an Aridisol Amended with Phosphorus-Enriched Compost显示文摘Legume plants are an essential component of sustainable farming systems.Phosphorus(P) deficiency is a significant constraint for legume production, especially in nutrient-poor soils of arid and semi-arid regions.In the present study, we conducted a pot experiment to evaluate the effects of a phosphorus-mobilizing plant-growth promoting rhizobacterial strain Bacillus cereus GS6, either alone or combined with phosphate-enriched compost(PEC) on the symbiotic(nodulation-N_2 fixation) performance of soybean(Glycine max(L.) Merr.) on an Aridisol.The PEC was produced by composting food waste with addition of single super phosphate.The bacterial strain B.cereus GS6 showed considerable potential for P solubilization and mobilization by releasing carboxylates in insoluble P(rock phosphate)-enriched medium.Inoculation of B.cereus GS6 in combination with PEC application significantly improved nodulation and nodule N_2 fixation efficiency.Compared to the control(without B.cereus GS6 and PEC), the combined application of B.cereus GS6 with PEC resulted in significantly higher accumulation of nitrogen(N), P, and potassium(K) in grain, shoot, and nodule.The N:P and P:K ratios in nodules were significantly altered by the application of PEC and B.cereus GS6, which reflected the important roles of P and K in symbiotic performance of soybean.The combined application of PEC and B.cereus GS6 also significantly increased the soil dehydrogenase and phosphomonoesterase activities, as well as the soil available N, P, and K contents.Significant positive relationships were found between soil organic carbon(C) content, dehydrogenase and phosphomonoesterase activities, and available N, P, and K contents.This study suggests that inoculation of P-mobilizing rhizobacteria, such as B.cereus GS6, in combination with PEC application might enhance legume productivity by improving nodulation and nodule N_2 fixation efficiency.Muhammad Saleem ARIF Muhammad RIAZ Sher Muhammad SHAHZAD Tahira YASMEEN Shafaqat ALI Muhammad Javed AKHTAR 2017Pedosphere2017,27,6:1

18Experimental and DFT Studies of Au Deposition Over WO_(3)/g-C_(3)N_(4) Z-Scheme Heterojunction显示文摘A typical Z-scheme system is composed of two photocatalysts which generate two sets of charge carriers and split water into H2 and O2 at different locations.Scientists are struggling to enhance the efficiencies of these systems by maximizing their light absorption,engineering more stable redox couples,and discovering new O2 and H2 evolutions co-catalysts.In this work,Au decorated WO3/g-C3N4 Z-scheme nanocomposites are fabricated via wet-chemical and photo-deposition methods.The nanocomposites are utilized in photocatalysis for H2 production and 2,4-dichlorophenol(2,4-DCP)degradation.It is investigated that the optimized 4Au/6%WO3/CN nanocomposite is highly efficient for production of 69.9 and 307.3μmol h−1 g−1 H2 gas,respectively,under visible-light(λ>420 nm)and UV–visible illumination.Further,the fabricated 4Au/6%WO3/CN nanocomposite is significant(i.e.,100%degradation in 2 h)for 2,4-DCP degradation under visible light and highly stable in photocatalysis.A significant 4.17%quantum efficiency is recorded for H2 production at wavelength 420 nm.This enhanced performance is attributed to the improved charge separation and the surface plasmon resonance effect of Au nanoparticles.Solid-state density functional theory simulations are performed to countercheck and validate our experimental data.Positive surface formation energy,high charge transfer,and strong non-bonding interaction via electrostatic forces confirm the stability of 4Au/6%WO3/CN interface.Muhammad Humayun Habib Ullah Junhao Cao Wenbo Pi Yang Yuan Sher Ali Asif Ali Tahir Pang Yue Abbas Khan Zhiping Zheng Qiuyun Fu Wei Luo 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,1:1
19Comparative assessment of clinical profile and outcomes after primary percutaneous coronary intervention in young patients with single vs multivessel disease显示文摘BACKGROUND Even though percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)improved the survival of patients with acute myocardial infarction,still multivessel coronary artery disease remains an important factor burdening prognosis and it is being associated with a worse prognosis compared to single-vessel disease(SVD).AIM To compare the clinical profile and outcomes after the primary PCI in young patients with SVD vs multivessel disease(MVD).METHODS The retrospective cohort of patients were divided into two groups:SVD and MVD group.The study population consisted of both male and female young(≤45 years)patients presented with ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI)at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease,Karachi,Pakistan and undergone primary PCI from 1 st July 2017 to 31 st March 2018.Pre and postprocedure management of the patients was as per the guidelines and institutional protocols.RESULTS A total of 571 patients with STEMI,≤45 years were stratified into two groups by the number of vessels involved,342(59.9%)with SVD and 229(40.1%)with MVD.The average age of these patients was 39.04±4.86 years.A lower prevalence of hypertension and diabetes was observed in SVD as compare to MVD group(25.1%vs 38%,P<0.01;11.7%vs 27.5%,P<0.001)respectively.While,smoking was more prevalent among the SVD group as compare to MVD group(36.3%vs 28.4%,P=0.05).The high-C Lesion was observed in a significantly higher number of younger patients with MVD as compared to SVD group(48.8%vs 39.2%,P=0.021).Post-procedure thrombolysis in myocardial infarction flow grade was found to be not associated with the number of diseased vessels with a P value of 0.426 and thrombolysis in myocardial infarction flow grade III was observed in 98%vs 96.5%of the patients is SVD vs MVD group.CONCLUSION The MVD comprised of around 40%of the young patients presented with STEMI.Also,this study shows that diabetes and hypertension have a certain role in the pathogenesis of multivessel diseases,therefore,preventive measures for diabetes and hypertension can be effective strategies in reducing the burden of premature STEMI.Atif Sher Muhammad Tariq Ashraf Ayaz Mir Syed Alishan Faiza Farooq Ali Ammar Musa Karim Syed Nadeem Hassan Rizvi Tahir Saghir Jawaid Akbar Sial Naveed Ullah Khan 2020World Journal of Cardiology2020,12,4:1
20Active Learning Strategies for Textual Dataset-Automatic Labelling显示文摘The Internet revolution has resulted in abundant data from various sources,including social media,traditional media,etcetera.Although the availability of data is no longer an issue,data labelling for exploiting it in supervised machine learning is still an expensive process and involves tedious human efforts.The overall purpose of this study is to propose a strategy to automatically label the unlabeled textual data with the support of active learning in combination with deep learning.More specifically,this study assesses the performance of different active learning strategies in automatic labelling of the textual dataset at sentence and document levels.To achieve this objective,different experiments have been performed on the publicly available dataset.In first set of experiments,we randomly choose a subset of instances from training dataset and train a deep neural network to assess performance on test set.In the second set of experiments,we replace the random selection with different active learning strategies to choose a subset of the training dataset to train the same model and reassess its performance on test set.The experimental results suggest that different active learning strategies yield performance improvement of 7% on document level datasets and 3%on sentence level datasets for auto labelling.Sher Muhammad Daudpota Saif Hassan Yazeed Alkhurayyif Abdullah Saleh Alqahtani Muhammad Haris Aziz 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,76,8:0
