| 3 | Maize Carbohydrate Partitioning Defective33 Encodes an MCTP Protein and Functions in Sucrose Export from Leaves显示文摘To sustain plant growth,development,and crop yield,sucrose must be transported from leaves to distant parts of the plant,such as seeds and roots.To identify genes that regulate sucrose accumulation and transport in maize(Zea mays),we isolated carbo/iydrafe part/f/ofi/ngf defecf/Ve33(cpd33),a recessive mutant that accumulated excess starch and soluble sugars in mature leaves.The cpd33 mutants also exhibited chlorosis in the leaf blades,greatly diminished plant growth,and reduced fertility.Cpd33 encodes a protein containing multiple C2 domains and transmembrane regions.Subcellular localization experiments showed the CPD33 protein localized to plasmodesmata(PD),the plasma membrane,and the endoplasmic reticulum.We also found that a loss-of-function mutant of the CPD33 homolog in Arabidopsis,QUIRKY,had a similar carbohydrate hyperaccumulation phenotype.Radioactively labeled sucrose transport assays showed that sucrose export was significantly lower in cpd33 mutant leaves relative to wild-type leaves.However,PD transport in the adaxial-abaxial direction was unaffected in cpd33 mutant leaves.Intriguingly,transmission electron microscopy revealed fewer PD at the companion cell-sieve element interface in mutant phloem tissue,providing a possible explanation for the reduced sucrose export in mutant leaves.Collectively,our results suggest that CPD33 functions to promote symplastic transport into sieve elements. | Thu M.Tran Tyler J.McCubbin Saadia Bihmidine Benjamin T.Julius R.Frank Baker Martin Schauflinger Clifford Weil Nathan Springer Paul Chomet Ruth Wagner Jeff Woessner Karen Grote Jeanette Peevers Thomas L.Slewinski David M.Braun | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,9: | 1 |

| 10 | Reproductive performance and gestational effort in relation to dietary fatty acids in guinea pigs显示文摘Background: Dietary saturated(SFAs) and polyunsaturated(PUFAs) fatty acids can highly affect reproductive functions by providing additional energy, modulating the biochemical properties of tissues, and hormone secretions. In precocial mammals such as domestic guinea pigs the offspring is born highly developed. Gestation might be the most critical reproductive period in this species and dietary fatty acids may profoundly influence the gestational effort. We therefore determined the hormonal status at conception, the reproductive success, and body mass changes during gestation in guinea pigs maintained on diets high in PUFAs or SFAs, or a control diet.Results: The diets significantly affected the females' plasma fatty acid status at conception, while cortisol and estrogen levels did not differ among groups. SFA females exhibited a significantly lower body mass and litter size, while the individual birth mass of pups did not differ among groups and a general higher pup mortality rate in larger litters was diminished by PUFAs and SFAs. The gestational effort, determined by a mother's body mass gain during gestation, increased with total litter mass, whereas this increase was lowest in SFA and highest in PUFA individuals. The mother's body mass after parturition did not differ among groups and was positively affected by the total litter mass in PUFA females.Conclusions: While SFAs reduce the litter size, but also the gestational effort as a consequence, PUFA supplementation may contribute to an adjustment of energy accumulations to the total litter mass, which may both favor a mother's body condition at parturition and perhaps increase the offspring survival at birth. | Matthias Nemeth Eva Millesi Carina Siutz Karl-Heinz Wagner Ruth Quint Bernard Wallner | 2017 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2017,8,3: | 1 |
