Effects of 42-year long-term fertilizer management on soil phosphorus availability, fractionation, adsorption–desorption isotherm and plant uptake in flooded tropical rice显示文摘Soil phosphorus(P) fractionation, adsorption, and desorption isotherm, and rice yield and P uptake were investigated in flooded tropical rice(Oryza sativa L.) following 42-year fertilizer and manure application. The treatments included low-input [unfertilized control without N, P, or K(C0N0)], farmyard manure(FYM)(C1N0), NP(C0NP), NPK(C0NPK), FYM + NP(C1NP), and high-input treatment, FYM + NPK(C1NPK). Grain yield was increased significantly by 74%over the control under the combined application of FYM + NPK. However, under low- and high-input treatments, yield as well as P uptake was maintained at constant levels for 35 years.During the same period, high yield levels and P uptake were maintained under the C0 NP, C0 NPK,and C1 NPK treatments. These are unique characteristics of a tropical flooded ecosystem, which is a self-sustaining system for rice production. The Fe–P fraction was highest compared to the Ca–P and Al–P fractions after 42 years of fertilizer application and was significantly higher under FYM + NPK treatment. The P adsorption capacity of soil was highest under the low-input treatment and lowest under long-term balanced fertilization(FYM + NPK). In contrast, P desorption capacity was highest under NPK and lowest in the control treatment. Long-term balanced fertilization in the form of FYM + NPK for 42 years lowered the bonding energy and adsorption capacity for P in soil but increased its desorption potential, increasing P availability to the plant and leading to higher P uptake and yield maintenance. | Pratap Bhattacharyya Amaresh Kumar Nayak Mohammad Shahid Rahul Tripathi Sangita Mohanty Anjani Kumar Rajagounder Raja Bipin Bihari Panda Banwari Lal Priyanka Gautam Chinmaya Kumar Swain Koushik Singha Roy Pradeep Kumar Dash | 2015 | The Crop Journal2015,3,5: | 5

Effects of light availability on leaf attributes and seedling growth of four tree species in tropical dry forest显示文摘Background:In tropical dry forests, variation in understory light availability due to season and canopy tree density could be a governing factor in establishment and growth of tree seedlings.Species with varying life history traits are expected to respond differentially to such heterogeneity. We investigated the response of seedlings of four tree species in a tropical day forest in relation to spatiotemporal variability of light. We attempt to explore the role of leaf attributes in explaining intra-and inter-specific variations in relative growth rate.Four study sites, each with three contrasting canopy conditions, were selected along a soil moisture gradient.Seedlings of four tree species(viz.,Acacia catechu,Bridelia retusa,Lagerstroemia parviflora, and Shorea robusta),varying in life history traits, were monitored for seasonal variations in growth traits across canopy condition and sites for 2 years. Results:We observed a larger variation in leaf attributes for pioneer species.A.catechu showed highest mean values for leaf dry matter content, leaf nitrogen concentration, leaf phosphorus concentration, net stomatal conductance, net photosynthetic rate, and relative growth rate in high light conditions.S.robusta and B.retusa demonstrated highest mean values for all the leaf attributes(except leaf dry matter content)in low light conditions. However, intermediate values for leaf attributes were observed in L.parviflora which preferred moderate light conditions. Conclusions:Seasonal variations in light availability at the forest floor appear to play an important role in the establishment and growth of tree seedlings in seasonal dry forests.Leaf attributes can be used to explain intra-and inter-specific variation in response to light availability.Leaf attributes in combinations can be used to predict relative growth rate of tree species in tropical dry environment, which apart from soil moisture is also determined by light availability due to seasonal changes and canopy tree density. | Sachchidanand Tripathi Rahul Bhadouria Pratap Srivastava Rajkumari S.Devi Ravikant Chaturvedi A.S.Raghubanshi | 2020 | Ecological Processes2020,9,1: | 1

A generalized synthesis method for freestanding multiferroic twodimensional layered supercell oxide films via a sacrificial buffer layer显示文摘Multiferroics are an intriguing family of materials due to the simultaneous presence of two ferroic orderings, namely, ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism. They are scientifically and technologically important and have numerous potential applications, such as four-state logic memories and multiferroic tunneling junctions. However, the growth of epitaxial singlephase multiferroic thin films typically requires single crystalline oxide substrates, which hinders their future integration with Sibased devices. In this study,we report a generalized synthesis method that uses the polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-assisted wetetching method with an Sr_(3)Al_(2)O_(6)(SAO)sacrificial layer to transfer freestanding single-phase multiferroic Bi_(2)NiMnO_(6)(BNMO)films from conventional SrTiO_(3)(STO)substrates onto a Si wafer. The structures and properties of the films have been characterized before and after the transfer. These transferred films possess good multiferroic properties on Si wafers, indicating full compatibility with modern Si technology. This method can be generally applicable to other Bi-based multiferroic materials as well.Lastly, the original STO substrates after the transfer process have been recycled for preparing new batches of freestanding BNMO films, indicating a low-cost and sustainable method for manufacturing large-volume freestanding complex oxide thin films. | Jianan Shen Benson Kunhung Tsai Ke Xu Anyu Shang James PBarnard Yizhi Zhang Rahul Tripathi Zhihong Chen Xinghang Zhang Haiyan Wang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,7: | 0
A novel approach towards molecular memory device in gate tunable structure of MoS_(2)-graphene显示文摘Molecular interaction in two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals(vdW)interfaces has drawn tremendous attention for extraordinary materials characteristics.Sofar sensing characteristics of molecular interaction has been exploited extensively to reach the detection limit to a few parts-per-billion(ppb)of molecules and far less attention is given to the evolution of persistent current state due to the molecular exposure. Our study focuses on molecular memory operation of MoS_(2)-graphene heterostructure based field effect transistor.Metastable resistance state of the device due to the external perturbation of molecules is tuned to get a nearly relaxation free current state at much lower molecular concentration of 10 ppb tofacilitate non-volatile memory features for molecular memory operation. An ultrafast switching operation in milli-second order is achieved at room temperature for the fastest recovery obtained sofar in any molecular sensor. The process is co-controlled both by molecular as well as external charge density. | Rahul Tripathi Abha Misra | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,1: | 0
Anti-cancer effects of sitagliptin, vildagliptin, and exendin-4 on triple-negative breast cancer cells via mitochondrial modulation显示文摘Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)cell line MDA-MB-231 is known for Warburg metabolism and defects in mitochondria. On the other hand, dipeptidyl peptidase-IV(DPP-IV)inhibitors such as sitagliptin and vildagliptin and GLP-1 agonist exendin-4 are known to improve mitochondrial functions as well as biogenesis, but no study has evaluated the influence of these drugs on mitochondrial biogenesis on metastatic breast cancer cell line.We have recently reported anticancer effects of 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide riboside on MDA-MB-231 cells via activation of AMP-dependent kinase(AMPK),which activates the downstream transcription factors PGC-1α,PGC-1β,or FOXO1 for mitochondrial biogenesis;above-mentioned incretin-based therapies are also known to activate AMPK.This study evaluated the effects of sitagliptin, vildagliptin, and exendin-4 on MDA-MB-231 cells and the underlying changes in mitochondrial biogenesis, were examined.Treatment with sitagliptin(100μM),vildagliptin(100μM),and exendin-4(10 nM)for 72 h to MDA-MB-231 cells led to a decrease in viability indicated by MTT assay, cell migration by scratch, and transwell migration assays, accompanied with marginal reduction in cell numbers along with the apoptotic appearance, the rate of apoptosis, and decreased lactate content in conditioned medium. These changes in the cancer phenotype were accompanied by an increase in the mitochondrial DNA to nuclear DNA ratio, increased MitoTracker green and red staining, and increased expression of transcription factors PGC-1α,NRF-1,NRF-2,TFAM,and HO-1.Pre-treatment of cells with these incretin-based drugs followed by 48 h treatment with 1μM doxorubicin increased doxorubicin sensitivity as observed by a decrease in viability by MTT assay. Thus, sitagliptin, vildagliptin, and exendin-4 exert their beneficial effects on TNBC cells via an increase in mitochondrial biogenesis that helps to switch Warburg metabolism into anti-Warburg effect.Therapeutic response was in the order of:sitagliptin>vildagliptin>exendin-4. | POOJA JAISWAL VERSHA TRIPATHI ANSHUL ASSAIYA DHARMENDRA KASHYAP RAHUL DUBEY ANAMIKA SINGH JANESH KUMAR HEM CHANDRA JHA RAJESH SHARMA AMIT KUMAR DIXIT HAMENDRA SINGH PARMAR | 2022 | BIOCELL2022,46,12: | 0
Carbon and water footprints of major crop production in India显示文摘Scarcity of water and emission of greenhouse gases(GHGs)are the two key environmental issues affecting crop production in India.Reducing the carbon footprint(CF)and water footprint(WF)of crop production can help to mitigate the environmental hazards that stem from GHG emissions and water scarcity. The CFs and WFs of three major cereal crops, rice, wheat, and maize, were estimated for the year 2014 under the environmental conditions in India, based on national statistics and other data sources.Total CFs(TCFs)of rice, wheat, and maize in India were estimated to be 2.44,1.27,and 0.80 t CO_(2)equivalent ha-1,respectively,and product WFs for rice, wheat, and maize in India were 3.52,1.59,and 2.06 m3 kg^(-1),respectively.Blue WF was found to be the highest in West India for rice and in South India for both wheat and maize, with the highest irrigation water use in these regions. There was a positive correlation between TCF and total WF,and hence mitigation of both was possibly simultaneous in various regions in India.Potential measures for mitigating GHG emissions and optimizing water use for rice, wheat, and maize production in India are recommended in this paper. | Amaresh Kumar NAYAK Rahul TRIPATHI Manish DEBNATH Chinmaya Kumar SWAIN Biswaranjan DHAL Shanmugam VIJAYKUMAR Anshuman Debasis NAYAK Sangita MOHANTY Mohammad SHAHID Anjani KUMAR Manoj RAJAK Khitish Chandra MOHARANA Dibyendu CHATTERJEE Susmita MUNDA Pravat GURU Rubina KHANAM Banwari LAL Priyanka GAUTAM Suschismita PATTANAIK Arvind Kumar SHUKLA Nuala FITTON Pete SMITH Himanshu PATHAK | 2023 | Pedosphere2023,33,3: | 0
