2Lipid abnormalities in kidney disease and management strategies显示文摘Patients with kidney diseases continue to experience significant cardiovascular disease(CVD) morbidity and mortality. Although there are many important risk factors playing a role in the pathogenesis of CVD in chronic kidney disease(CKD) patients, dyslipidemia(elevated triglycerides, elevated oxidized low-densitylipoprotein and low/dysfunctional low high-density) represents one of the modifiable risk factors. Renal failure patients have unique lipid abnormalities which not only have complex role in pathogenesis of CVD but also cause relative resistance to usual interventions. Most of the randomized trials have been in hemodialysis population and data from CKD non-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplant populations is extremely limited. Compared to general population, evidence of mortality benefit of lipid lowering medications in CKD population is scarce. 3CONTROL OF VEHICLE PLATOONS FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY AND EFFICIENT UTILITY:CONSENSUS WITH COMMUNICATIONS AND VEHICLE DYNAMICS显示文摘Platoon formation of highway vehicles is a critical foundation for autonomous or semiautonomous vehicle control for enhanced safety,improved highway utility,increased fuel economy,and reduced emission toward intelligent transportation systems.Platoon control encounters great challenges from vehicle control,communications,team coordination,and uncertainties.This paper introduces a new method for coordinated control of platoons by using integrated network consensus decisions and vehicle control.To achieve suitable coordination of the team vehicles based on terrain and environmental conditions,the emerging technology of network consensus control is modified to a weighted and constrained consensus-seeking framework.Algorithms are introduced and their convergence properties are established.The methodology employs neighborhood information through on-board sensors and V2 V or V2 I communications,but achieves global coordination of the entire platoon.The ability of the methods in terms of robustness,disturbance rejection,noise attenuation,and cyber-physical interaction is analyzed and demonstrated with simulated case studies.WANG Le Yi SYED Ali YIN Gang George PANDYA Abhilash ZHANG Hongwei 2014Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2014,27,4:5
4Sonohysterography: Principles, technique and role in diagnosis of endometrial pathology显示文摘Sonohysterography (SHG), which provides enhanced endometrial visualization during standard transvaginal ultrasonography, is a relatively safe procedure for the evaluation of endometrial pathology. It can be used to evaluate patients with abnormal vaginal bleeding or infertility. This modality offers real time imaging of the endometrium without exposure to ionizing radiation. SHG is typically used in patients for whom standard transvaginal ultrasonography does not show the endometrium well, show a potential abnormality for which further imaging is required, or in patients without endometrial pathology defined on routine transvaginal imaging but in whom there is a strong clinical suspicion of an abnormality. This article will discuss the utility of the sonohysterogram in evaluation of various endometrial pathologies. 5Radiofrequency ablation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma:The past,the present and the future显示文摘Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is one of the most aggressive cancers with a grim overall 5-year survival rate of 5%.Advances in surgical techniques,critical care,molecular diagnosis,diagnostic imaging,endosonology and adjuvant therapy have improved outcomes;but still more needs to be achieved.There is an urgent need to discover new avenues that may impact survival.Radiofrequency ablation(RFA)has attracted attention as an adjunctive treatment in PDAC.A review of English literature in Pub Med was done using the MESH terms for PDAC and RFA.All the articles were reviewed and core information was tabulated for reference.After a comprehensive review of all articles the data was evaluated to discover the role of RFA in PDAC management.Indications,contraindications,feasibility,success rate,safety,complications and impact on survival were reviewed and are discussed further.RFA appears to be an attractive option for nonmetastatic locally advanced PDAC.RFA is feasible but has a significant morbidity.At the present time the integration of RFA into the management of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is evolving.It should be considered as having a complimentary role to current standard therapy in the multimodal management care model.It is likely that indications and patient selection for pancreatic RFA will expand.Garvi J Pandya Vishal G Shelat 2015World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2015,7,2:5
6Enamel biomimetics—fiction or future of dentistry?显示文摘Tooth enamel is a complex mineralized tissue consisting of long and parallel apatite crystals configured into decussating enamel rods. In recent years, multiple approaches have been introduced to generate or regenerate this highly attractive biomaterial characterized by great mechanical strength paired with relative resilience and tissue compatibility. In the present review, we discuss five pathways toward enamel tissue engineering,(i) enamel synthesis using physico-chemical means,(ii) protein matrix-guided enamel crystal growth,(iii) enamel surface remineralization,(iv) cell-based enamel engineering, and(v) biological enamel regeneration based on de novo induction of tooth morphogenesis. So far, physical synthesis approaches using extreme environmental conditions such as pH, heat and pressure have resulted in the formation of enamel-like crystal assemblies.Biochemical methods relying on enamel proteins as templating matrices have aided the growth of elongated calcium phosphate crystals. To illustrate the validity of this biochemical approach we have successfully grown enamel-like apatite crystals organized into decussating enamel rods using an organic enamel protein matrix. Other studies reviewed here have employed amelogeninderived peptides or self-assembling dendrimers to re-mineralize mineral-depleted white lesions on tooth surfaces. So far, cell-based enamel tissue engineering has been hampered by the limitations of presently existing ameloblast cell lines. Going forward, these limitations may be overcome by new cell culture technologies. Finally, whole-tooth regeneration through reactivation of the signaling pathways triggered during natural enamel development represents a biological avenue toward faithful enamel regeneration.
