Changes in Nutrient-Homeostasis and Reserves Metabolism During Rice Seed Priming:Consequences for Seedling Emergence and Growth显示文摘In this study influence of different seed priming treatments on the nutrient-homeostasis and reserve metabolism during seedling emergence and growth of rice were determined. Seed priming treatments included pre-germination, hydropriming for 48 h, osmohardening with KCl and CaCl2, ascorbate priming and hardening. All treatments shortened the emergence time and enhanced the energy and index of seedling emergence. Seedlings from primed seeds had greater length, number of roots and fresh and dry mass than control. Among the treatments, CaCl2, ascorbate and KCl proved better in enhancing emergence and seedling growth. Seed priming changed the pattern of N and Ca2+ homeostasis both of the seeds and seedlings, which were associated to enhancing α-amylase activity and reducing sugars content. Positive correlations of seedling attributes with nutrient content suggested that as a result of seed priming, most of N and Ca2+ were partitioned to embryo, which enhanced seedling emergence and subsequent growth of rice seedlings. | Muhammad Farooq Shahzad M A Basra Abdul Wahid Nazir Ahmad | 2010 | Agricultural Sciences in China2010,9,2: | 4
Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test versus conventional modified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast staining method for diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis显示文摘Objectove:To evaluate the validity of Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test(CA-RT) in comparison with the conventional mollified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast(MZN-AF) staining method for the diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis. Methods:Fifteen preserved stool samples from previously confirmed infections were used as positive controls and 40 stool samples from healthy people were used as negative control.A total of 85 stool samples were collected from suspected patients with cryptosporidiosis over 6 months during the period from January till June.2011.The stud) was conducted in the department of parasitology, central laboratory.Alnoor Specialist Hospital, Makkah.Saudi Arabia. All samples were subjected to CA-RT and conventional MZN-AF staining method.Validation parameters including sensitivity(SN).specificity(SP),accuracy index (AI).positive predictive value(PPV).and negative predictive value(NPV) were evaluated for both tests. Results:Out of 15[lositive controls,CA-RT detected 13(86.7%) while MZN-AF detected 11(73.3%) positive cases.However.CA-RT detected no positive case in 40 normal controls but MZN-AF detected 2(5%) as positive cases.Based on the results, the SN.SP.AI.PPV and NPV were high in CA-RT than MZN-AF staining method,ie..86.7%vs.73.3%.100%vs.95%.96.4%vs.89.1%. 100%vs.84.6%and 95.2%vs.90.5%.respectively.Out of a total of 85 suspected specimens.CART detected 7(8.2%) but MZN-AF detected 6(7.1%) cases as positive.Conclusions:CA-RT immunoassay is more valid and reliable than MZN-AF staining method. | Dina Abdulla Muhammad Zaglool Amr Mohamed Yousif Abdul Wahid Khodari Mian Usman Farooq | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,3: | 3
Mycorrhiza and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria:Potential Bioagents for Sustainable Phosphorus Management in Agriculture显示文摘Phosphorus(P)is a critical nutrient that plays an essential role in improving soil fertility for optimum plant growth and productivity. It is one of the most deficient macro-nutrients in agricultural soils after nitrogen and is considered inadequate for plant growth and production. To P availability in soils, the farmers are applying huge amounts of synthetic P fertilizers that adversely affect the wider environment, groundwater, soil fertility and microbial population. Many beneficial microbes are known to release and supply soluble P for improving growth and yield of a variety of plants in a sustainable manner in P deficient soils. Thus, inoculation of these microbes, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)and phosphate solubilizing bacteria(PSB)to soil to enhance crop production without harming the environment,is an alternative approach to chemical fertilizers. The combined role of AMF and PSB in P solubilization is not well understood and the application and mode of action of these microbial groups are often naive due to variation in the environment. Therefore, the current review article would develop a better understanding of the interactive role and mechanisms of AMF and PSB in improving P availability from both organic and inorganic sources in a sustainable crop production system. Finally, the current review would loop out further avenues for researchers interested to commercially produce effective AMF and PSB-based biofertilizers for sustainable management of phosphorus over a wide range of agricultural crops worldwide. | Fazli Wahid Muhammad Sharif Shah Fahad Amjad Ali Muhammad Adnan Rafiullah Shah Saud Subhan Danish Muhammad Arif Ali Niaz Ahmed Hüseyin Arslan Doğan Arslan Murat Erman Ayman EL Sabagh Fatemeh Gholizadeh Rahul Datta | 2022 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,2: | 2
Numerical evaluation of new Austrian tunneling method excavation sequences: A case study显示文摘The main aspects that require attention in tunnel design in terms of safety and economy are the precise estimation of probable ground conditions and ground behavior during construction. The variation in rock mass behavior due to tunnel excavation sequence plays an important role during the construction stage. The purpose of this research is to numerically evaluate the effect of excavation sequence on the ground behavior for the Lowari tunnel project, Pakistan. For the tunnel stability, the ground behavior observed during the actual partial face excavation sequence is compared with the top heading and bench excavation sequence. For this purpose, the intact rock parameters are used along with the characterization of rock mass joints related parameters to provide input for numerical modelling via FLAC 2D. The in-situ stresses for the numerical modelling are obtained using empirical equations. From the comparison of the two excavation sequences, it was observed that the actual excavation sequence used for Lowari tunnel construction utilized more support than the top heading and bench method. However, the actual excavation sequence provided good results in terms of stability. | Hafeezur Rehman Abdul Muntaqim Naji Wahid Ali Muhammad Junaid Rini Asnida Abdullah Han-kyu Yoo | 2020 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,3: | 2

Livelihood Diversification as an Adaptation Approach to Change in the Pastoral Hindu-Kush Himalayan Region显示文摘Migratory livestock raising has been one of the most important livelihood options for people residing in high mountain areas and has made a significant contribution to the economy of the Hindu Kush Himalayan(HKH) region, both in terms of supporting households and in export earnings. However, in recent decades, changes in the socioeconomic situation and increasing climate variability have led to a need to enhance adaptation by building the resilience of local socio-ecological systems, including economic diversification and sustainable management of natural resources. Based on semistructured interviews with pastoral communities in six countries within the pastoral HKH region, this paper discusses the situation, trends and driving forces behind the diversification of pastoral livelihood. For internal diversification the study highlights the need for enhancement of pastoral livelihoods through value-adding activities in the pastoral sectors. For external diversification changes on policy changes are needed to support free out-migration, market exploitation, and multiple resource use. Finally the paper highlights the role of education in determining household adaptation strategies in the face of various socio-ecological pressures and recommends integrating innovative and indigenous knowledge to develop appropriate methods for risk management and resource management in the pastoral HKH region. | WU Ning Muhammad ISMAIL Srijana JOSHI YI Shao-liang Ritu Meher SHRESTHA Abdul Wahid JASRA | 2014 | Journal of Mountain Science2014,11,5: | 1

A novel variant of GALC in a familial case of Krabbe disease:Insights from structural bioinformatics and molecular dynamics simulation显示文摘Krabbe disease or globoid cell leukodystrophy(GLD;MIM#245200)is a rare and fatal lysosomal storage disease with an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance that results from the deficiency of galactocerebrosidase(GALC;E.C.3.2.1.46),a lysosomal enzyme encoded by the GALC gene.1 GALC breaks down galactosylceramide,a cerebroside located mainly in the myelin sheath.Defects in GALC cause the accumulation of a cytotoxic metabolite, galactosylsphingosine or psychosine, which can be toxic to oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells.2 The failure to digest galactosylceramide triggers the formation of multi-nucleated globoid cells, causing severe demyelination, axonopathy, and neuronal death.3 The reported frequency of Krabbe disease is 1 in 100,000 live births with symptoms including irritability, loss of motor ability, spasticity, ataxia, visual dysfunction, seizures, andcognitive impairment. | Ikram Ullah Muhammad Waqas Muhammad Ilyas Sobia Ahsan Halim Akmal Ahmad Natalia Dominik Wahid Ullah Muhammad Abbas Muhammad Aamir Henry Houlden Stephanie Efthymiou Ajmal Khan Ahmed Al-Harrasi | 2023 | Genes & Diseases2023,10,6: | 0
An updated systematic review of Zika virus-linked complications显示文摘Objective: To determine the breadth of Zika virus(ZIKV)-associated brain anomalies in neonates and adults. Methods: Systematic review was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA) statement using electronic databases ScienceDirect, Pubmed, Medline, Scopus, and Global Health Library.Only those research articles, case studies, case-control studies, case-cohort studies, crosssectional studies, and organizational survey reports were included in the study that reported any fetal outcomes for pregnant women who had infected with ZIKV during the gestational period and ZIKV-related neurological complications in adults as well. Results: Out of total 72 retrieved articles, 50 met the inclusion criteria. We estimated a significant increase in incidence of neural abnormalities such as Guillain-Barre syndrome and microcephaly in the regions that are experiencing ZIKV outbreaks. Other neurological malformations found in ZIKV patients include hydrancephaly/hydrops fetalis, myasthenia gravis, meningoencephalitis and myelitis. Conclusion: Our systematic analysis provides the broad spectrum of neurological malformations in ZIKV infected patients and these data further support the causal link of ZIKV with neurological disorders. | Braira Wahid Amjad Ali Muhammad Waqar Muhammad Idrees | 2018 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2018,11,1: | 0
POST—DEHYDRATION SHELF LIFE EXTENSION OF FRUITS AND NUTS显示文摘Post- dehydration storage life of fruits and plant nuts such as apricot, raisin, date, fig, almond, peanut, pinenut and walnut, was studied. The results showed that radiation dose of 1.0 kGy completely, inhibited insect infestation. Low dose radiation (0.25kGy) plus 20℃ and vacuum extended the storage life for 6 and 12 months in dry nuts and fruits respectively without affecting nutritional quality except ascorbic acid. Packaging in opaque pouches under vacuum proved better than other treatments in maintaining nutritional and sensoric quality. | Abdus Sattar Muhammad Wahid Mohammad Jan | 1991 | Nuclear Science and Techniques1991,2,3: | 0
Advances in research on Zika virus显示文摘Zika virus(ZIKV) is rapidly spreading across the America and its devastating outcomes for pregnant women and infants have driven this previously ignored pathogen into the limelight.Clinical manifestations are fever, joint pain or rash and conjunctivitis.Emergence of ZIKV started with a first outbrcak in the Pacific arca in 2007.a second large outbreak occurred in the Pacific in 2013/2014 and subsequently the virus spread in other Pacific islands.Threat of explosive global pandemic and severe clinical complications linked with the more immediate and recurrent epidemics necessitate the development of an effective vaccine.Several vaccine platforms such as DNA vaccine, recombinant subunit vaccine.ZIKV purified inactivated vaccine, and chimeric vaccines have shown potent efficacy in ritro and in rim trials. Moreover, number of drugs such as Sofosbuvir.BCX4450.NITD008 and 7-DMA are ready to enter phase I clinical trial because of proven anti-ZIKV activity.Monoclonal based antibodies offer promise as an intervention effective for use in pregnant women. In this review,we describe the advances in research on ZIKV such as research strategies for the development of antiviral drugs & vaccines, molecular evolution, epidemiology emergence, neurological complications and other teratogenic outcomes as well as pathogenesis. | Amjad Ali Braira Wahid Shazia Rafique Muhammad Idrees | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,4: | 0

Ensemble Deep Learning Framework for Situational Aspects-Based Annotation and Classification of International Student’s Tweets during COVID-19显示文摘As the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe, social media plat-forms became an essential source of information and communication for many.International students, particularly, turned to Twitter to express their struggles and hardships during this difficult time.To better understand the sentiments and experiences of these international students,we developed the Situational Aspect-Based Annotation and Classification(SABAC)text mining framework. This framework uses a three-layer approach, combining baseline Deep Learning(DL)models with Machine Learning(ML)models as meta-classifiers to accurately predict the sentiments and aspects expressed in tweets from our collected Student-COVID-19 dataset.Using the pro-posed aspect2class annotation algorithm,we labeled bulk unlabeled tweets according to their contained aspect terms. However,we also recognized the challenges of reducing data’s high dimensionality and sparsity to improve performance and annotation on unlabeled datasets. To address this issue,we proposed the Volatile Stopwords Filtering(VSF)technique to reduce sparsity and enhance classifier performance. The resulting Student-COVID Twitter dataset achieved a sophisticated accuracy of 93.21%when using the random forest as a meta-classifier.Through testing on three benchmark datasets,we found that the SABAC ensemble framework performed exceptionally well. Our findings showed that international students during the pandemic faced various issues, including stress, uncertainty, health concerns, financial stress, and difficulties with online classes and returning to school.By analyzing and summarizing these annotated tweets,decision-makers can better understand and address the real-time problems international students face during the ongoing pandemic. | Shabir Hussain Muhammad Ayoub Yang Yu Junaid Abdul Wahid Akmal Khan Dietmar P.F.Moller Hou Weiyan | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,6: | 0
