2Effects of mixture ratio on anaerobic co-digestion with fruit and vegetable waste and food waste of China显示文摘The biochemical methane potentials for typical fruit and vegetable waste (FVW) and food waste (FW) from a northern China city were investigated,which were 0.30,0.56 m 3 CH 4/kgVS (volatile solids) with biodegradabilities of 59.3% and 83.6%,respectively.Individual anaerobic digestion testes of FVW and FW were conducted at the organic loading rate (OLR) of 3 kg VS/(m 3 ·day) using a lab-scale continuous stirred-tank reactor at 35℃.FVW could be digested stably with the biogas production rate of 2.17 m 3/(m 3 ·day) and methane production yield of 0.42 m 3 CH 4/kg VS.However,anaerobic digestion process for FW was failed due to acids accumulation.The effects of FVW:FW ratio on co-digestion stability and performance were further investigated at the same OLR.At FVW and FW mixing ratios of 2:1 and 1:1,the performance and operation of the digester were maintained stable,with no accumulation of volatile fatty acids (VFA) and ammonia.Changing the feed to a higher FW content in a ratio of FVW to FW 1:2,resulted in an increase in VFAs concentration to 1100-1200mg/L,and the methanogenesis was slightly inhibited.At the optimum mixture ratio 1:1 for co-digestion of FVW with FW,the methane production yield was 0.49 m 3 CH 4/kg VS,and the volatile solids and soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD) removal efficiencies were 74.9% and 96.1%,respectively.Jia Lin Jiane Zuo Lili Gan Peng Li Fenglin Liu Kaijun Wang Lei Chen Hainan Gan 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,8:36
3Characterization of drug responses of mini patient-derived xenografts in mice for predicting cancer patient clinical therapeutic response显示文摘Background:Patient-derived organoids and xenografts(PDXs)have emerged as powerful models in functional diag-nostics with high predictive power for anticancer drug response.However,limitations such as engraftment failure and time-consuming for establishing and expanding PDX models followed by testing drug efficacy,and inability to subject to systemic drug administration for ex vivo organoid culture hinder realistic and fast decision-making in selecting the right therapeutics in the clinic.The present study aimed to develop an advanced PDX model,namely MiniPDX,for rapidly testing drug efficacy to strengthen its value in personalized cancer treatment.Methods:We developed a rapid in vivo drug sensitivity assay,OncoVee®MiniPDX,for screening clinically relevant regimens for cancer.In this model,patient-derived tumor cells were arrayed within hollow fiber capsules,implanted subcutaneously into mice and cultured for 7 days.The cellular activity morphology and pharmacokinetics were systematically evaluated.MiniPDX performance(sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values)was examined using PDX as the reference.Drug responses were examined by tumor cell growth inhibition rate and tumor growth inhibition rate in PDX models and MiniPDX assays respectively.The results from MiniPDX were also used to evaluate its predictive power for clinical outcomes.Results:Morphological and histopathological features of tumor cells within the MiniPDX capsules matched those both in PDX models and in original tumors.Drug responses in the PDX tumor graft assays correlated well with those in the corresponding MiniPDX assays using 26 PDX models generated from patients,including 14 gastric cancer,10 lung cancer and 2 pancreatic cancer.The positive predictive value of MiniPDX was 92%,and the negative predictive value was 81%with a sensitivity of 80%and a specificity of 93%.Through expanding to clinical tumor samples,Min-iPDX assay showed potential of wide clinical application.Conclusions:Fast in vivo MiniPDX assay based on capsule implantation was developed-to assess drug responses of both PDX tumor grafts and clinical cancer specimens.The high correlation between drug responses of paired MiniPDX and PDX tumor graft assay,as well as translational data suggest that MiniPDX assay is an advanced tool for personalized cancer treatment.Feifei Zhang Wenjie Wang Yuan Long Hui Liu Jijun Cheng Lin Guo Rongyu Li Chao Meng Shan Yu Qingchuan Zhao Shun Lu Lili Wang Haitao Wang Danyi Wen 2018Cancer Communications2018,38,1:20
4PM_(2.5), PM_(10) and health risk assessment of heavy metals in a typical printed circuit noards manufacturing workshop显示文摘A typical Printed Circuit Board(PCB) manufacturer was chosen as the object of this study.During PCB processing, fine particulate matter and heavy metals(Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, Cd and Ni)will be released into the air and dust, which then impact workers' health and the environment. The concentrations of total suspended particle(TSP), PM10 and PM2.5in the off-site were 106.3, 90.0 and 50.2 μg/m3, respectively, while the concentrations of TSP, PM10 and PM2.5in the workshops ranged from 36.1 to 365.3, from 27.1 to 289.8 and from 22.1 to212.3 μg/m3, respectively. Almost all six of the heavy metals were detected in all of the particle samples except Cd. For each workshop, it was obvious that Zn was the most enriched metal in TSP, followed by Cu > Pb(Cr) > Ni > Cd, and the same trend was found for PM10 and PM2.5. In the dust samples, Cu(which ranged from 4.02 to 56.31 mg/g) was the most enriched metal, followed by Zn, Cr, Pb, Ni and Cd, and the corresponding concentrations ranged from 0.77 to 4.47, 0.37 to 1.59, 0.26 to 0.84, 0.13 to 0.44 and nd to0.078 mg/g, respectively. The health risk assessment showed that noncancerous effects are unlikely for Zn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Cd and Ni. The carcinogenic risks for Cd and Ni were all lower than 10-6, except for Cr. This result indicates that carcinogenic risks for workers are relatively possible in the workshops. 5Accumulation of Organic Matter in Infertile Red Soils and Its Ecological Importance显示文摘Field experiments on the decomposition of organic materials and the accumulation of organic carbon in infertile red soils were conducted at the Ecological Experimental Station of Red Soil,the Chinese Academy of Sciences,and the potential of CO2 sequestration by redlamation and improving the fertility of these soils was estimated.Results showed that in infertile red soils,the humification coefficinets of organic materials were rather high,ranging from 0.28 to 0.63 with an average of 0.43,which was 41% higher than those in corresponding red soils with medium fertility.THis was mainly attributed to the high clay content.high acidity and low native organic matter content of infertile red soils.Compared to those in corresponding normal red soils,the decomposition rates of organic materials were significantly lower in infertile red soils in the first 2 years,thereafter no significant difference was observed between those in the two kinds of soils.Depending on the kind and amount of organic manure applied,the soil properties and the rotation systems,annual application of organic manure with a rate of 4500 to 9000kgha^-1 increased the organic carbon content in surface 20cm of infertile red soils by 2.1-7.5g kg^-1 with an average of 4.7g kg^-1 within the first 5years.The organic carbon content in infertile red soils which received organic manure annually increased linearly in the first 10 years,thereafter it slowed down,implying that the fertility of the infertile red soils could reach middle or high level in 10 years if the soil was managed properly.It was estimated that through exploitation of wastelands,re-establishment of fuel forests and improvement of soil fertility,soils in red soil region of China could sequester an extra 1.50×10^15 g of atmospheirc CO2.LI ZHONGPEI CHENG LILI and LIN XINXIONG(Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O. 7Superabsorbent Fibers for Comfortable Disposable Medical Protective Clothing显示文摘Disposable medical protective clothing for 2019-nCoV mainly consists of stacked layers with nanopore films,polymer coated nonwoven fabrics and melt-blown nonwoven fabrics against anti-microbial and anti-liquid penetration.However,such structures lack moisture permeability and breathability leading to an uncomfortable,stuffy wearing experience.Here,we propose a novel medical protective clothing material with a superabsorbent layer to enhance moisture absorption.Poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/polyvinyl alcohol superabsorbent fibers(PAAAM/PVA fibers)were prepared via wet spinning.And the superabsorbent composite layer was stacked from PAAAM/PVA fibers,bamboo pulp fibers(BPF)and ethylene-propyl-ene side by side fibers(ESF).The novel disposable medical protective composite fabric was obtained through gluing the superabsorbent layer to the inner surface of strong antistatic polypropylene nonwoven fabric.The resultant composite fabric possesses excellent absorption and retention capacity for sweat,up to 12.3 g/g and 63.8%,and a maximum hygroscopic rate of 1.04 g/h,higher than that of the conventional material(only 0.53 g/h).The moisture permeability of the novel material reached 12,638.5 g/(m^(2) d),which was 307.6%of the conventional material.The novel material can effectively reduce the humidity inside the protective clothing and significantly improve the comfort of medical staff.Lin Yang Hong Liu Shuai Ding Jiawei Wu Yan Zhang Zhongzhen Wang Lili Wei Mingwei Tian Guangming Tao 2020Advanced Fiber Materials2020,2,3:11
8Noninvasive Ultrasound Deep Brain Stimulation for the Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease Model Mouse显示文摘Modulating basal ganglia circuitry is of great signifcance in the improvement of motor function in Parkinson’s disease(PD).Here,for the frst time,we demonstrate that noninvasive ultrasound deep brain stimulation(UDBS)of the subthalamic nucleus(STN)or the globus pallidus(GP)improves motor behavior in a subacute mouse model of PD induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP).Immunohistochemical c-Fos protein expression confrms that there is a relatively high level of c-Fos expression in the STN-UDBS and GP-UDBS group compared with sham group(both p<0.05).Furthermore,STN-UDBS or GPUDBS signifcantly increases the latency to fall in the rotarod test on day 9(p<0.05)and decreases the time spent climbing down a vertical rod in the pole test on day 12(p<0.05).Moreover,our results reveal that STN-UDBS or GP-UDBS protects the dopamine(DA)neurons from MPTP neurotoxicity by downregulating Bax(p<0.001),upregulating Bcl-2(p<0.01),blocking cytochrome c(Cyt C)release from mitochondria(p<0.05),and reducing cleaved-caspase 3 activity(p<0.01)in the ipsilateral substantia nigra(SN).Additionally,the safety of ultrasound stimulation is characterized by hematoxylin and eosin(HE)and Nissl staining;no hemorrhage or tissue damage is detected.Tese data demonstrate that UDBS enables modulation of STN or GP neural activity and leads to neuroprotection in PD mice,potentially serving as a noninvasive strategy for the clinical treatment of PD.Hui Zhou Lili Niu Long Meng Zhengrong Lin Junjie Zou Xiangxiang Xia Xiaowei Huang Wei Zhou Tianyuan Bian Hairong Zheng 2019Research2019,,1:9
9Synergistic immunoreaction of acupuncture-like dissolving microneedles containing thymopentin at acupoints in immune-suppressed rats显示文摘Dissolving microneedles carried drug molecules can effectively penetrate the stratum corneum of skin to improve the transdermal drug delivery. The traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture is based on the needle stimulation at a specific location(acupoint) to generate and transmit biochemical and physiological signals which alter the pathophysiological state of patients. However, the pain associated with conventional acupuncture needles and the requirement of highly trained professionals limit the development of acupuncture in non-Asian countries. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the dissolving microneedles can be utilized as a self-administered painless replacement for acupuncture and locally released drug molecules can achieve expected therapeutic outcomes. Immunosuppressive rats were treated with acupuncture at Zusanli(ST36) acupoint using microneedles containing thymopentin.The immune functions and psychological mood of the immunosuppressed animals were examined. The proliferation of splenocytes was examined by CCK-8 assay. CD4 and CD8 expression patterns in spleen cells were detected by flow cytometry. The current study showed that use of either microneedles containing thymopentin or conventional acupuncture both resulted in immune cell proliferation, which was confirmed by flow cytometry. 12Whole genome sequencing of 10K patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack: design, methods and baseline patient characteristics显示文摘Background and purpose Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and the leading cause of mortality and long-term disability in China,but its underlying risk genes and pathways are far from being comprehensively understood.We here describe the design and methods of whole genome sequencing(WGS)for 10914 patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack from the Third China National Stroke Registry(CNSR-III).Methods Baseline clinical characteristics of the included patients in this study were reported.DNA was extracted from white blood cells of participants.Libraries are constructed using qualified DNA,and WGS is conducted on BGISEQ-500 platform.The average depth is intended to be greater than 30×for each subject.Afterwards,Sentieon software is applied to process the sequencing data under the Genome Analysis Toolkit best practice guidance to call genotypes of single nucleotide variants(SNVs)and insertion-deletions.For each included subject,21 fingerprint SNVs are genotyped by MassARRAY assays to verify that DNA sample and sequencing data originate from the same individual.The copy number variations and structural variations are also called for each patient.All of the genetic variants are annotated and predicted by bioinformatics software or by reviewing public databases.Results The average age of the included 10914 patients was 62.2±11.3 years,and 31.4%patients were women.Most of the baseline clinical characteristics of the 10914 and the excluded patients were balanced.Conclusions The WGS data together with abundant clinical and imaging data of CNSR-III could provide opportunity to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and discover novel therapeutic targets for stroke.Si Cheng Zhe Xu Yang Liu Jinxi Lin Yong Jiang Yilong Wang Xia Meng Anxin Wang Xinying Huang Zhimin Wang Guohua Chen Songdi Wu Zhengchang Jia Yongming Chen Xuerong Qiu Jun Wu Binbin Song Weizhong Ji Zhongping An Wenjun Xue Lili Zhao Yu Geng Hongyan Li Hao Li Yongjun Wang 2021Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,2:8

14Studies of new EST-SSRs derived from Gossypium barbadense显示文摘Existing cotton EST-SSR markers are mostly derived from Gossypium arboreum and Gossypium hir-sutum, but EST-SSR markers from Gossypium barbadense are scarce. One hundred and nineteen EST-SSRs were developed based on 98 unique ESTs from a cDNA library constructed in our laboratory using developing fibers from G. barbadense cv. Pima3-79. Among the SSRs, trinucleotide AAG appeared at a high frequency of 11.76%. 36 accessions (consisting of 13 diploids of the A genome, 11 diploids of the D genome and 12 allotetraploids of the AD genome) were employed to test new EST-SSRs. 76 EST-SSRs were successfully amplified, and 313 polymorphic fragments were yielded, with an average of 4.11 fragments per primer pair. The PIC ranged from 0.17 to 0.95 with an average of 0.53. Based on Jaccard’s genetic similarity coefficient, these 36 accessions were clustered into three groups. 21 EST-SSRs exhibited polymorphisms in BC1 population ((Emian22 × Pima3-79) × Emian22), 24 polymor- phic loci were generated, while 22 of the 24 polymorphic loci were integrated with our interspecific BC1 backbone genetic linkage map, and anchored in 12 chromosomes. 15Characterization of the soybean Gm ALMT family genes and the function of Gm ALMT5 in response to phosphate starvation显示文摘A potential mechanism to enhance utilization of sparingly soluble forms of phosphorus(P) is the root secretion of malate, which is mainly mediated by the ALMT gene family in plants. In this study, a total of 34 Gm ALMT genes were identified in the soybean genome. Expression patterns diverged considerably among Gm ALMTs in response to phosphate(Pi) starvation in leaves, roots and flowers, with expression altered by P availability in 26 of the 34 Gm ALMTs. One root-specific Gm ALMT whose expression was significantly enhanced by Pi-starvation,Gm ALMT_5, was studied in more detail to determine its possible role in soybean P nutrition. Analysis of Gm ALMT_5 tissue expression patterns, subcellular localization, and malate exudation from transgenic soybean hairy rootsoverexpressing Gm ALMT_5, demonstrated that Gm ALMT_5 is a plasma membrane protein that mediates malate efflux from roots. Furthermore, both growth and P content of transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing Gm ALMT_5 were significantly increased when sparingly soluble Ca-P was used as the external P source. Taken together, these results indicate that members of the soybean Gm ALMT gene family exhibit diverse responses to Pi starvation. 16Ruminal fermentation and microbial community differently influenced by four typical subtropical forages in vitro显示文摘The present study evaluated the effects of 4 typical subtropical forages on ruminal microbial community composition to formulate a better diet for buffalo.Corn straw silage,elephant grass,cassava residues and sugarcane tail silage were used as substrates for in vitro fermentation.Eight replicates were set up for every substrate,and fermentation was carried out in a 100-m L glass syringe,using buffalo rumen inoculum.Every replicate was anaerobically dispensed with 10 m L of rumen inoculum,20 m L of Mc Dougall's buffer and 200 mg of dried substrate,and placed in a water bath at 39C.Gas production was recorded at 0,2,6,12,24,36,48 and 72 h of incubation.After 24 h,fermentation was ceased for 4 replicates and samples were collected.Volatile fatty acids(VFA) concentrations were measured using gas chromatography.Microbial populations were quantified using quantitative real-time PCR(q RT-PCR),and microbial community was analyzed using high throughput sequencing technology.The results showed,cassava residues as substrate had the highest gas production,acetate,propionate and total VFA concentrations(P < 0.05),and corn straw silage had the lowest acetate:propionate ratio(P < 0.05).The lowest numbers of fungi,Ruminococcus albus and Fibrobacter succinogenes,and the highest number of protozoa were observed with cassava residues(P < 0.05).The least abundances of bacterial phyla Firmicutes,Bacteroidetes and genus Prevotella,and substantially higher abundance of phylum proteobacteria(56%) and genus Succinivibrio(52%) were observed with cassava residues.The most abundances of Methanobrevibacter gottschalkii and Entodinium were observed with cassava residues.Spearman's correlations analysis showed,Succinivibrio had strong positive correlations with propionate,butyrate,Metadinium and M.gottschalkii,indicating fermentation products were related to microbial community.In conclusion,incubation with cassava residues resulted in lower number of fiber degrading microbes but higher protozoal population because of its low fiber contents.The microbial community was highly altered by in vitro incubation with cassava residues,whereas remained similar for the other 3 high fiber containing substrates.Muhammad W.Iqbal Qin Zhang Yingbai Yang Caixia Zou Lili Li Xin Liang Shengju Wei Bo Lin 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,1:6
17Effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese herbs in children with cough variant asthma: a systematic review and Meta-analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To systematically investigate the clinical effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese herbs(TCHs)as an alternative to conventional medicine(CM)in children with cough variant asthma(CVA).METHODS:Randomized controlled trial(RCT)studies that were published from their inceptions to March 31,2020,were identified from the electronic databases of China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wangfang,Pub Med,and Cochrane Central Library.The primary outcome of the review was the total effective rate(TER),and the secondary outcomes were immunoglobulin E(Ig E),peak expiratory flow(PEF),adverse drug reactions,and relapse rates of interventions.RESULTS:For the Meta-analysis,13 studies involving 992 children with CVA were included.In terms of TER and Ig E,the experimental interventions of TCH,when compared with the control interventions of CM,on pediatric CVA were found to be significantly effective(P<0.0001),whereas for spirometry,PEF was not significantly improved in the TCH group(P=0.48).The incident rates of adverse drug reaction and relapse were found to be significantly lower in the TCH group than those in the CM group(P=0.02 and P<0.0001,respectively).CONCLUSION:Compared with CM therapy,the effects of TCH therapy on pediatric CVA were significantly beneficial in terms of TER and Ig E,but not for PEF,and the methodological quality of included studies was poor.Therefore,the results should be interpreted with caution.More randomized controlled trials with rigorous experimental methodologies are required for objectivity in the future.Kyou-Hwan Han Ki Haeng Cho CUI Shanqin Lily Lin Jaejong Kim 2021Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2021,41,5:6
18Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population,consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. 19Fe5C2 nanoparticles as low-cost HER electrocatalyst:the importance of Co substitution显示文摘Constructing and understanding the doping effect of secondary metal in transition metal carbide(TMC)catalysts is pivotal for the design of low-cost hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) electrocatalysts. In this work, we developed a wet-chemistry strategy for synthesizing Co-modified Fe_5C_2 nanoparticles((Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs) as highly active HER electrocatalysts in basic solution. The structure of(Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra(EXAFS) and scanning/transmission electron microscopy(S/TEM), indicating that the isomorphous substitution of cobalt in the lattice of Fe_5C_2.(Fe_(0.75) Co_(0.25))_5C_2 exhibited the best HER activity(174 mV for j = -10 mA/cm^2). Computational calculation results indicate that Co provides the most active site for HER. X-ray adsorption spectra(XAS) studies further suggested that the electron transfer in Fe–C bonds are enhanced by the substitution of Co, which modulates the hydrogen adsorption on the adjacent electronic-enriched carbon, and therefore promotes HER activity. 20Research and development of new neodymium laser glasses显示文摘This work presents a brief introduction on three kinds of newly developed Nd^(3+)-doped laser glasses in Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics(SIOM), China. Two Nd^(3+)-doped phosphate glasses with lower thermal expansion coefficient and thermal shock resistance 4 times higher than that of N31 glass are developed for laser processing.Nd:Silicate and Nd:Aluminate glasses with peak emission wavelength at 1061 and 1065 nm, effective emission bandwidth of 34 and 50 nm, respectively, are developed for Exawatt-class laser system application. Fluorophosphate glasses with low nonlinear refractive index(n_2=0.6–0.86) and long fluorescence lifetime(430–510 μs) are investigated for the purpose of decreasing B integral in high-power laser system.
