| 1 | A Novel Method to Improve the Electrochemical Performance of LiMn_2O_4 Cathode Active Material by CaCO_3 Surface Coating显示文摘Spinel LiMn2O4 was synthesized by glycine-nitrate method and coated with CaCO3 in order to enhance the electrochemical performance at room temperature (250C) and 550C. The uncoated and CaCO3-coated LiMn2O4 materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical tests. XRD and SEM results indicated that CaCO3 particles encapsulated the surface of the LiMn2O4 without causing any structural change. The charge-discharge tests showed that the specific discharge capacity fade of pristine electrode at 25 and 550C were 25.5% and 52%, respectively. However, surface modified cathode shows 7.4% and 29.5% loss compared to initial specific discharge capacity at 70th cycle for 25 and 550C, respectively. | 2 | Comparison of one and three initial monthly intravitreal ranibizumab injection in patients with macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion显示文摘AIM: To compare three initial monthly intravitreal ranibizumab(IVR) injections followed by pro re nata(PRN) dosing with one initial monthly IVR injections followed by PRN dosing for macular edema(ME) secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO).METHODS: Forty-two eyes of 42 patients who had IVR injections for BRVO were retrospectively studied. Eighteen eyes received 1 initial IVR injection(1+PRN group) and 24 eyes received 3 monthly IVR injections(3+PRN). At 1, 3, 6 and 12mo; spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) was performed. Central macular thickness(CMT), the integrity of the external limiting membrane(ELM), the presence of subretinal fluid, cyst size, the presence of inner segment/outer segment(IS/OS) defect were determined.RESULTS: At baseline the mean CMT was 521.3±153.2 μm in the 3+PRN group while it was 438.1±162.4 μm in 1+PRN group. At the final visit, mean CMT was 278.3±87.8 μm in the 3+PRN group and 285.2±74.2 μm in the 1+PRN group(P=0.079). The changes in CMT over the entire study period were also comparable in both groups(243±160 μm in the 3+PRN group, and 152.9±175.3 μm in the 1+PRN group; P=0.090). At baseline, best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was 0.92±0.60 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution(logMAR) in the 3+PRN group, while it was 0.72±0.46 logMAR in the 1+PRN group. Final BCVA was 0.42±0.55 logMAR in the 3+PRN group and 0.38±0.50 logMAR in the 1+PRN group(P=0.979). Additionally, the BCVA changes from baseline to final visit were not significantly different(-0.50±0.45 logMAR in the 3+PRN group, and-0.33±0.39 logMAR in the 1+PRN group; P=0.255).CONCLUSION: No significant differences in the anatomical or functional results are found between 3+PRN and 1+PRN regimens in the patients receiving ranibizumab for ME secondary to BRVO. | 3 | Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of Carbon-Mixed LiEr_(0.02)Fe_(0.98)PO_4 Cathode Material for Lithium-ion Batteries显示文摘LiEr0.02Fe0.98PO4/C composite cathode was synthesized by a simple solution method with polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the reductive agent and carbon source. The effect of erbium doping on the electrochemical behavior of LiFePO4 was studied in this paper. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy and the electrochemical properties were investigated by the charge-discharge test. An initial discharge capacity of 149 mAh·g-1 was achieved for the LiEr0.02Fe0.98PO4/C composite cathode with a rate of 0.1 C. The electronic conductivity of Er doped LiFePO4/C was measured as 10-2 S·cm-1. The results indicated that erbium doping did not destroy the lattice structure of LiFePO4 and enlarge the lattice volume. | 4 | Phase I study on the safety and preliminary efficacy of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells in hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy显示文摘BACKGROUND Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE)is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the adult as well as in the neonate,with limited options for treatment and significant dysfunctionality.AIM To investigate the safety and preliminary efficacy of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)in HIE patients.METHODS Patients who had HIE for at least 6 mo along with significant dysfunction and disability were included.All patients were given Wharton’s jelly-derived MSCs at 1×106/kg intrathecally,intravenously,and intramuscularly twice a month for two months.The therapeutic effects and prognostic implications of MSCs were evaluated by multiple follow-ups.Functional independence measure(FIM),modified Ashworth,and Karnofsky scales were used to assess any side effects,neurological and cognitive functions,and overall outcomes.RESULTS The 8 subjects included in the study had a mean age of 33.25±10.18 years.Mean HIE exposure and mean post-HIE durations were 45.63±10.18 and 19.67±29.04 mo,respectively.Mean FIM score was 18.38±1.06,mean modified Ashworth score was 43.5±4.63,and mean Karnofsky score was 20.For the first 24 h,5 of the patients experienced a subfebrile state,accompanied by mild headaches due to intrathecally administration and muscle pain because of intramuscularly administration.Neurological and functional examinations,laboratory tests,electroencephalography,and magnetic resonance imaging were performed to assess safety of treatment.Mean FIM score increased by 20.88±3.31 in the first month(P=0.027)and by 31.38±14.69 in 12 mo(P=0.012).The rate of patients with an FIM score of 126 increased from 14.58%to 16.57%in the first month and 24.90%in 12 mo.CONCLUSION Multiple triple-route Wharton’s jelly-derived MSC administrations were found to be safe for HIE patients,indicating neurological and functional improvement.Based on the findings obtained here,further randomized and placebo research could be performed. | Serdar Kabataş ErdinçCivelek Necati Kaplan Eyüp Can Savrunlu Gülseli Berivan Sezen Mourat Chasan Halil Can Ali Genç Yener Akyuva Osman Boyalı Furkan Diren Erdal Karaoz | 2021 | World Journal of Experimental Medicine2021,11,2: | 2 |

| 16 | A novel indicator system for catalytic spectrophotometric determination and speciation of inorganic selenium species (Se(Ⅳ), Se(Ⅵ)) at trace levels in natural lake and river water samples显示文摘A novel catalytic kinetic method is proposed for the determination of Se(Ⅳ), Se(Ⅵ), and total inorganic selenium in water based on the catalytic effect of Se(Ⅳ) on the reduction of Celestine blue by sodium sulfide at pH 7.0 phosphate buffer. The fixed-time method was adopted for the determination and speciation of inorganic selenium. Under the optimum conditions, the two calibration graphs are linear with a good correlation coefficient in the range 2-20 and 20-200 μg·L-1 of Se(Ⅳ) for the fixed-time method at 30℃. The experimental and theo- retical detection limits of the developed kinetic method were found to be 0.21 and 2.50 μg·L-1 for the fixed-time method (3 min). All of the variables that affect the sensitivity at 645 nm were investigated, and the optimum conditions were established. The interference effect of various cations and anions on the Se(Ⅳ) determination was also studied. The selectivity of the selenium determination was greatly improved with the use of the strongly cation exchange resin such as Amberlite IR120 plus as long as chelating agents of thiourea and thiosulphate. The proposed kinetic method was validated statistically and through recovery studies in natural water samples. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for ten replicate measurements of 2, 10, and 20 μg·L-1 of Se(Ⅳ) change between 0.35% and 5.58%, while the RSDs for ten replicate measurements of 3, 6, and 12 μg·L-1 of Se(Ⅵ) change between 0.49% and 1.61%. Analyses of a certified standard reference material (NIST SRM 1643e) for selenium using the fixed-time method showed that the proposed kinetic method has good accuracy.
