9Visual exploration of movement and event data with interactive time masks显示文摘We introduce the concept of time mask,which is a type of temporal filter suitable for selection of multiple disjoint time intervals in which some query conditions fulfil.Such a filter can be applied to time-referenced objects,such as events and trajectories,for selecting those objects or segments of trajectories that fit in one of the selected time intervals.The selected subsets of objects or segments are dynamically summarized in various ways,and the summaries are represented visually on maps and/or other displays to enable exploration.The time mask filtering can be especially helpful in analysis of disparate data(e.g.,event records,positions of moving objects,and time series of measurements),which may come from different sources.To detect relationships between such data,the analyst may set query conditions on the basis of one dataset and investigate the subsets of objects and values in the other datasets that co-occurred in time with these conditions.We describe the desired features of an interactive tool for time mask filtering and present a possible implementation of such a tool.By example of analysing two real world data collections related to aviation and maritime traffic,we show the way of using time masks in combination with other types of filters and demonstrate the utility of the time mask filtering.Natalia Andrienko Gennady Andrienko Elena Camossi Christophe Claramunt Jose Manuel Cordero Garcia Georg Fuchs Melita Hadzagic Anne-Laure Jousselme Cyril Ray David Scarlatti George Vouros 2017Visual Informatics2017,1,1:0
10Approximate Riemann Solvers and Robust High-Order Finite Volume Schemes for Multi-Dimensional Ideal MHD Equations显示文摘We design stable and high-order accurate finite volume schemes for the ideal MHD equations in multi-dimensions.We obtain excellent numerical stability due to some new elements in the algorithm.The schemes are based on three-and five-wave approximate Riemann solvers of the HLL-type,with the novelty that we allow a varying normal magnetic field.This is achieved by considering the semiconservative Godunov-Powell form of the MHD equations.We show that it is important to discretize the Godunov-Powell source term in the right way,and that the HLL-type solvers naturally provide a stable upwind discretization.Second-order versions of the ENO-and WENO-type reconstructions are proposed,together with precise modifications necessary to preserve positive pressure and density.Extending the discrete source term to second order while maintaining stability requires non-standard techniques,which we present.The first-and second-order schemes are tested on a suite of numerical experiments demonstrating impressive numerical resolution as well as stability,even on very fine meshes.Franz Georg Fuchs Andrew D.McMurry Siddhartha Mishra Nils Henrik Risebro Knut Waagan 2011Communications in Computational Physics2011,9,2:0
11Finite Volume Methods for Wave Propagation in Stratified Magneto-Atmospheres显示文摘We present a model for simulating wave propagation in stratified magnetoatmospheres. The model is based on equations of ideal MHD together with gravitational source terms. In addition, we present suitable boundary data and steady statesto model wave propagation. A finite volume framework is developed to simulate thewaves. The framework is based on HLL and Roe type approximate Riemann solversfor numerical fluxes, a positivity preserving fractional steps method for discretizingthe source and modified characteristic and Neumann type numerical boundary conditions. Second-order spatial and temporal accuracy is obtained by using an ENO piecewise linear reconstruction and a stability preserving Runge-Kutta method respectively.The boundary closures are suitably modified to ensure mass balance. The numericalframework is tested on a variety of test problems both for hydrodynamic as well asmagnetohydrodynamic configurations.
