| 1 | Experimental and numerical study of the fragmentation of expanding warhead casings by using different numerical codes and solution techniques显示文摘There has been increasing interest in numerical simulations of fragmentation of expanding warheads in 3D.Accordingly there is a pressure on developers of leading commercial codes,such as LS-DYNA.AUTODYN and IMPETUS Afea.to implement the reliable fracture models and the efficient solution techniques.The applicability of the Johnson—Cook strength and fracture model is evaluated by comparing the fracture behaviour of an expanding steel casing of a warhead with experiments.The numerical codes and different numerical solution techniques,such as Eulerian,Lagrangian.Smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH).and the corpuscular models recently implemented in IMPETUS Afea are compared.For the same solution techniques and material models we find that the codes give similar results.The SPH technique and the corpuscular technique are superior to the Eulerian technique and the Lagrangian technique(with erosion) when it is applied to materials that have fluid like behaviour such as the explosive and the tracer.The Eulerian technique gives much larger calculation time and both the Lagrangian and Eulerian techniques seem to give less agreement with our measurements.To more correctly simulate the fracture behaviours of the expanding steel casing,we applied that ductility decreases with strain rate.The phenomena may be explained by the realization of adiabatic shear bands.An implemented node splitting algorithm in IMPETUS Afea seems very promising. | John F.MOXNES Anne K.PRYTZ Фyvind FRФYLAND Siri KLOKKEHAUG Stian SKRIUDALEN Eva FRIIS Jan A.TELAND Cato DФRUM Gard ФDEGARDSTUEN | 2014 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2014,10,2: | 12 |
| 2 | Silicon and silicon nitride photonic circuits for spectroscopic sensing on-a-chip [Invited]显示文摘There is a rapidly growing demand to use silicon and silicon nitride(Si3N4) integrated photonics for sensing applications, ranging from refractive index to spectroscopic sensing. By making use of advanced CMOS technology,complex miniaturized circuits can be easily realized on a large scale and at a low cost covering visible to mid-IR wavelengths. In this paper we present our recent work on the development of silicon and Si3N4-based photonic integrated circuits for various spectroscopic sensing applications. We report our findings on waveguide-based absorption, and Raman and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. | 3 | Molecular phenotypes of human parvovirus B19 in patients with myocarditis显示文摘AIM:To investigate molecular phenotypes of myocardial B19V-infection to determine the role of B19V in myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM).METHODS:Endomyocardial biopsies(EMBs) from 498 B19V-positive patients with myocarditis and DCMwere analyzed using molecular methods and functional experiments.EMBs were obtained from the University Hospitals of Greifswald and Tuebingen and additionally from 36 German cardiology centers.Control tissues were obtained at autopsy from 34 victims of accidents,crime or suicide.Identification of mononuclear cell infiltrates in EMBs was performed using immunohistological staining.Anti-B19V-IgM and anti-B19V-IgG were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).B19V viral loads were determined using in-house quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR).For B19V-genotyping a new B19V-genotype-specific restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)-PCR was established.B19V-genotyping was verified by direct DNAsequencing and sequences were aligned using BLAST and BioEdit software.B19V P6-promoter and HHV6-U94-transactivator constructs were generated for cell culture experiments.Transfection experiments were conducted using human endothelial cells 1.Luciferase reporter assays were performed to determine B19Vreplication activity.Statistical analysis and graphical representation were calculated using SPSS and Prism5 software.RESULTS:The prevalence of B19V was significantly more likely to be associated with inflammatory cardiomyopathy(iCMP) compared to uninflamed DCM(59.6% vs 35.3%)(P < 0.0001).The detection of B19V-mRNA replication intermediates proved that replication of B19V was present.RFLP-PCR assays showed that B19V-genotype 1(57.4%) and B19V-genotype 2(36.7%) were the most prevalent viral genotypes.B19V-genotype 2 was observed more frequently in EMBs with iCMP(65.0%) compared to DCM(35%)(P = 0.049).Although there was no significant difference in gender-specific B19V-loads,women were more frequently infected with B19V-genotype 2(44.6%) than men(36.0%)(P = 0.0448).Coinfection with B19V and other cardiotropic viruses was found in 19.2% of tissuesamples and was associated with higher B19V viral load compared to B19V-monoinfected tissue(P = 0.0012).The most frequent coinfecting virus was human herpes virus 6(HHV6,16.5%).B19V-coinfection with HHV6 showed higher B19V-loads compared to B19V-monoinfected EMBs(P = 0.0033),suggesting that HHV6 had transactivated B19V.In vitro experiments confirmed a 2.4-fold increased B19V P6-promoter activity by the HHV6 U94-transactivator.CONCLUSION:The finding of significantly increased B19V loads in patients with histologically proven cardiac inflammation suggests a crucial role of B19V-genotypes and reactivation of B19V-infection by HHV6-coinfection in B19V-associated iCMP.Our findings suggest that B19V-infection of the human heart can be a causative event for the development of an endothelial cell-mediated inflammatory disease and that this is related to both viral load and genotype. | C-Thomas Bock Anja Düchting Friederike Utta Eva Brunner Bui Tien Sy Karin Klingel Florian Lang Meinrad Gawaz Stephan B Felix Reinhard Kandolf | 2014 | World Journal of Cardiology2014,6,4: | 3 |
| 4 | Long-term changes in biological soil crust cover and composition显示文摘Introduction:Communities change over time due to disturbances,variations in climate,and species invasions.Biological soil crust communities are important because they contribute to erosion control and nutrient cycling.Crust types may respond differently to changes in environmental conditions:single-celled organisms and bryophytes quickly recover after a disturbance,while lichens are slow growing and dominate favorable sites.Community change in crusts has seldom been assessed using repeated measures.For this study,we hypothesized that changes in crust composition were related to disturbance,topographic position,and invasive vegetation.Methods:We monitored permanent plots in the Columbia Basin in 1999 and 2010 and compared changes in crust composition,cover,richness,and turnover with predictor variables of herbivore exclosure,elevation,heat load index,time since fire,presence of an invasive grass,and change in cover of the invasive grass.Results:Bryophytes were cosmopolitan with high cover.Dominant lichens did not change dramatically.Indicator taxa differed by monitoring year.Bryophyte and total crust cover declined,and there was lower turnover outside of herbivore exclosures.Lichen cover did not change significantly.Plots that burned recently had high turnover.Increase in taxon richness was correlated with presence of an invasive grass in 1999.Change in cover of the invasive grass was positively related to proportional loss and negatively related to gain.Conclusions:Composition and turnover metrics differed significantly over 11 years,though cover was more stable between years.This study can be a baseline for assessing change in crust composition due to anthropogenic influences. | Eva Dettweiler-Robinson Jeanne M Ponzetti Jonathan D Bakker | 2013 | Ecological Processes2013,2,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Preclinical evaluation of azathioprine plus buthionine sulfoximine in the treatment of human hepatocarcinoma and colon carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of azathioprine (AZA) and buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) bylocalized application into HepG2 tumor in vivo.METHODS: Different hepatoma and colon carcinoma cell lines (HepG2, HuH7, Chang liver, LoVo, RKO, SW-48, SW-480) were grown in minimal essencial medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum and 1% antibiotic/antimycotic solution and maintained in a humidified 37 ℃ incubator with 5% CO2. These cells were pretreated with BSO for 24 h and then with AZA for different times. We examined the effects of this combination on some proteins and on cellular death. We also studied the eff icacy and the safety of AZA (6 mg/kg per day) and BSO (90 mg/kg per day) in HepG2 tumor growth in vivo using athymic mice. We measured safety by serological markers such as aminotransferases and creatine kinase.RESULTS: The in vitro studies revealed a new mechanism of action for the AZA plus BSO combination in the cancer cells compared with other thiopurines (6-mercaptopurine, 6-methylmercaptopurine, 6-thioguanine and 6-methylthioguanine) in combination with BSO. The cytotoxic effect of AZA plus BSO in HepG2 cells resulted from necroptosis induction in a mitochondrial-dependent manner. From kinetic studies we suggest that glutathione (GSH) depletion stimulates c-Jun amino-terminal kinase and Bax translocation in HepG2 cells with subsequent deregulation of mitochondria (cytochrome c release, loss of membrane potential), and proteolysis activation leading to loss of membrane integrity, release of lactate dehydrogenase and DNA degradation. Some of this biochemical and cellular changes could be reversed by N-acetylcysteine (a GSH replenisher). | 8 | Leuprolide acetate induces structural and functional recovery of injured spinal cord in rats显示文摘Gonadotropin-releasing hormone(Gn RH) and its synthetic analog leuprolide acetate, a Gn RH agonist, have neurotrophic properties. This study was designed to determine whether administration of leuprolide acetate can improve locomotor behavior, gait, micturition reflex, spinal cord morphology and the amount of microglia in the lesion epicenter after spinal cord injury in rats. Rats with spinal cord compression injury were administered leuprolide acetate or saline solution for 5 weeks. At the 5th week, leuprolide acetate-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery by 38%, had improvement in kinematic gait and exhibited voiding reflex recovery by 60%, as compared with the 1st week. By contrast, saline solution-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery only by 7%, but voiding reflex did not recover. More importantly, leuprolide acetate treatment reduced microglial immunological reaction and induced a trend towards greater area of white and gray matter in the spinal cord.
