| 1 | Comparative study of polyhydroxyalkanoates production from acidified and anaerobically treated brewery wastewater using enriched mixed microbial culture显示文摘The production of polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHA) from wastewaters using microbial mixed cultures(MMC) has been attracting increased interest because of PHA's biodegradability characteristics. Production of PHA by an MMC enriched with PHA-accumulating bacteria was compared using anaerobically treated and acidified brewery wastewaters under various feeding strategies, namely pulse and batch feed addition. To obtain an enriched MMC, a sequencing batch reactor was inoculated with activated sludge fed with acetate and subjected to aerobic dynamic feeding. The enriched MMC was able to accumulate PHA up to 72.6% of cell dry weight(CDW) with pulse addition of acetate controlled by the dissolved oxygen(DO) concentration in the reactor. In a batch accumulation experiment with acetate,the PHA content achieved(28.5% CDW) was less than that of the pulse feeding strategy with the same amount of acetate(~2000 mg C/L). Using anaerobically treated and acidified brewery wastewater fed in pulses, the maximum PHA accumulated by the enriched MMC was similar for both wastewaters(45% CDW), in spite of the higher volatile fatty acid concentration in acidified brewery wastewater. The pulse feed addition controlled by the DO concentration was difficult to implement for wastewater as compared to acetate because the difference in DO concentration between substrate availability and depletion was low. For the batch addition of acidified wastewater, a slightly lower PHA content(39%CDW) was obtained. | 3 | Late biliary complications in human alveolar echinococcosis are associated with high mortality显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the incidence of late biliary complications in non-resectable alveolar echinococcosis(AE)under long-term chemotherapy with benzimidazoles.METHODS:Retrospective analysis of AE patients with biliary complications occurring more than three years after the diagnosis of AE.We compared characteristics of patients with and without biliary complications,analyzed potential risk factor for biliary complications and performed survival analyses.RESULTS:Ninety four of 148 patients with AE in Zurich had non-resectable AE requiring long-term benzimidazole chemotherapy,of which 26(28%)patients developed late biliary complications.These patients had a median age of 55.5(35.5-65)years at diagnosis of AE and developed biliary complications after 15(8.25-19)years of chemotherapy.The most common biliary complications during long-term chemotherapy were late-onset cholangitis(n=14),sclerosing cholangitis-like lesions(n=8),hepatolithiasis(n=5),affection of the common bile duct(n=7)and secondary biliary cirrhosis(n=7).Thirteen of the 26 patients had undergone surgery(including 12 resections)before chemotherapy.Previous surgery was a risk factor for late biliary complications in linear regression analysis(P=0.012).CONCLUSION:Late biliary complications can be observed in nearly one third of patients with non-resectable AE,with previous surgery being a potential risk factor.After the occurrence of late biliary complications,the median survival is only 3 years,suggesting that late biliary complications indicate a poor prognostic outcome. | Pascal Frei Benjamin Misselwitz Meher K Prakash Alain M Schoepfer Bettina M Prinz Vavricka Beat Müllhaupt Michael Fried Kuno Lehmann Rudolf W Ammann Stephan R Vavricka | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，19： | 5 |

| 5 | Rapid,simple and stability-indicating determination of polyhexamethylene biguanide in liquid and gel-like dosage forms by liquid chromatography with diode-array detection显示文摘A rapid and simple method for the determination of polyhexamethylene biguanide(polyhexanide,PHMB)in liquid and gel-like pharmaceutical formulations by means of high performance liquid chromatography coupled to diode-array detection(HPLC-DAD)was developed.Best separation was achieved using a cyanopropyl bonded phase(Agilent Zorbax Eclipse XDB-CN column 4.6 mm x 75 mm with particle size of 3.5μm)as well as gradient elution consisting of acetonitrile/deionized water at a flow rate of 1.0mL/min.The optimized and applied chromatographic conditions permitted separation of polyhexanide from interacting matrix with subsequent detection at a wavelength of 235 nm with good sensitivity.The method validation was carried out with regard to the guidelines for analytical procedures demanded by the International Conference on Harmonisation(ICH).Mean recoveries of 102%and 101%for gel-like as well as liquid preparations were obtained.Suitable repeatability as well as intermediate precision could be achieved with limits of detection≤0.004 mg/mL for both formulations,equivalent to≤0.004%PHMB concerning sample preparation.Determination of PHMB was accomplished without tedious sample preparation.Interacting matrix could be eliminated by the chromatographicprocedure with excellent performance of system suitability.All analytical requirements were fulfilled permitting a reliable and precise determination of PHMB in pharmaceuticals.Furthermore,the developed method was applied to stability testing of pharmaceutical preparations containing PHMB. | Markus Küsters Soren Beyer Stephan Kutscher Harald Schlesinger Michael Gerhartz | 2013 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2013，3，6： | 2 |
