| 3 | Prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease in a country with a high occurrence of Helicobacter pylori显示文摘AIM To evaluate the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) with additional symptoms, relationship with Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) of this country-wide study.METHODS Data from 3214 adults were obtained with validated questionnaire. Eight hundred and forty-one subjects were randomized to be tested for H. pylori via the urea breath test. 'Frequent symptoms' were defined heartburn and/or regurgitation occurring at least weekly.RESULTS The prevalence of GERD was 22.8%, frequent and occasional heartburn were 9.3%-12.7%, regurgitation were 16.6%-18.7%, respectively. Body mass index(BMI) ≤ 18.5 showed a prevalence of 15%, BMI > 30 was 28.5%. The GERD prevalence was higher in women(26.2%) than men(18.9%)(P < 0001). Overall prevalence of H. pylori was 75.7%. The prevalence was 77.1% in subjects without symptoms vs 71.4% in subjects with GERD(χ~2 = 2.6, P = 0.27). Underprivileged with the lowest income people exhibit a higher risk.CONCLUSION GERD is common in Turkey which reflects both Western and Eastern lifestyles with high rate of H. pylori. The presence of H. pylori had no effect on either the prevalence or the symptom profile of GERD. | 7 | Petrographic and Geochemicial Characteristics of the Kiziloren Formation (Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic) in the Akpinar (Konya,Turkey) Area显示文摘This paper describes the occurrence of dolomite and the mechanism of dolomitization of the Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic Kiziloren Formation in the autochthonous Bolkardagi unit of the middle Taurus Mountains in south western Turkey. Dolomites were analyzed for geochemical, isotopic and crystallographic variation. Dolomites occur as a replacement of precursor carbonate and cement. The dolomite crystals range from <10 to ~1000 μm existing as both replacements and cements. Sr concentrations range between 84 and 156 ppm, and the molar Sr/Ca ratios of dolomitizing fluids are estimated to range between 0.0066 to 0.013 ratios. Dolomites are Ca-rich (with average CaCO3 and MgCO3 equal to 56.43 and 43.57 mol%, respectively) and they are non-stoichiometric, with an average Sr=116 ppm, Na=286 ppm, Mn=81 ppm, Fe=1329 ppm, and δ18O and δ13C ranges from -0.6‰ to -6.1‰ Pee Dee Belemnite [PDB], and +1.2 to +3.9‰ PDB. The North American Shale Composition [NASC]-normalized rare earth element (REE) values of the both limestone and dolomite sample groups show very similar REE patterns characterized by small positive Eu (mean=1.32 and mean=1.42, respectively) and slightly or considerably negative Ce (mean=0.61 and mean=0.72, respectively) anomalies and a clear depletion in all REE species. | 17 | Effect of environmental factors on species diversity of the Yenice Hot Spot Forests in Turkey显示文摘We quantified the diversity of vascular plant species and described soil properties and topographical and climatic conditions of the Citdere and Kavakli Nature Reserves in the Yenice Forest of Turkey. We used the Shannon-Weiner and Simpson's indices of diversity,Margalef's index of species richness and Pielou's evenness index to quantify the structure of vascular plant assemblages. We measured soil parameters(NO_3^-, NH_4^+,available P, Mg^(++), K^+, Na^+, Ca^(++), organic matter, pH,soil moisture), elevation, slope gradient and aspect and their correlations with plant community parameters. In total, we recorded and identified 207 species and subspecies in the study area. Species cover, richness and diversity indices varied significantly by vegetation type(P < 0.01). Available NO_3^- and Ca++ in the soil were important factors for the area and species representation in the species-environment correlations estimated for the Kavakli area.
