| 1 | Anisotropic coding metamaterials and their powerful manipulation of differently polarized terahertz waves显示文摘Metamaterials based on effective media can be used to produce a number of unusual physical properties(for example,negative refraction and invisibility cloaking)because they can be tailored with effective medium parameters that do not occur in nature.Recently,the use of coding metamaterials has been suggested for the control of electromagnetic waves through the design of coding sequences using digital elements‘0’and‘1,'which possess opposite phase responses.Here we propose the concept of an anisotropic coding metamaterial in which the coding behaviors in different directions are dependent on the polarization status of the electromagnetic waves.We experimentally demonstrate an ultrathin and flexible polarization-controlled anisotropic coding metasurface that functions in the terahertz regime using specially designed coding elements.By encoding the elements with elaborately designed coding sequences(both 1-bit and 2-bit sequences),the x-and y-polarized waves can be anomalously reflected or independently diffused in three dimensions.The simulated far-field scattering patterns and near-field distributions are presented to illustrate the dual-functional performance of the encoded metasurface,and the results are consistent with the measured results.We further demonstrate the ability of the anisotropic coding metasurfaces to generate a beam splitter and realize simultaneous anomalous reflections and polarization conversions,thus providing powerful control of differently polarized electromagnetic waves.The proposed method enables versatile beam behaviors under orthogonal polarizations using a single metasurface and has the potential for use in the development of interesting terahertz devices. | Shuo Liu Tie Jun Cui Quan Xu Di Bao Liangliang Du Xiang Wan Wen Xuan Tang Chunmei Ouyang Xiao Yang Zhou Hao Yuan Hui Feng Ma Wei Xiang Jiang Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang Qiang Cheng | 2016 | Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1: | 36 |

| 3 | Upreguiation of human telomerase reverse transcriptase mRNA expression by in vitro transfection of hepatitis B virus X gene into human hepatocarcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma cells显示文摘AIM: To study the changes of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) mRNA expression in human hepatocarcinoma cell lines (HepG2) and cholangiocarcinoma cell lines (QBC939) after HBx gene transfection and to illustrate the significance of transcriptional regulation of hTERT gene by HBx gene in the carcinogenesis.METHODS: HepG2 and QBC939 cell lines were cultured and co-transfected with eukaryotic expression vector containing the HBx coding region and cloning vector containing enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) coding sequence using lipid-mediated gene transduction technique. Thirty-six hours after transfection, EGFP expression in cells was used as the indicator of successful transfection. Flow cytometry was performed to determine the transfection efficiency.Cells were harvested and total RNA was extracted using TRIzol() reagent. The expression of hTERT mRNA in HepG2and QBC939 cell lines was assayed by reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction. The expression of HBx protein in both cell lines was detected by immunocytochemical staining and Western blotting.RESULTS: Flow cytometry showed that the transfection efficiency was 46.4% in HepG2 cells and 29.6% in QBC939cells for both HBx gene expression vector and blank vector. The expression of hTERT mRNA was meaningfully increased in HepG2 and QBC939 cell lines when transfected with HBx gene expression vector compared to those transfected with OPTI-MEM medium and blank vector.Immunocytochemical staining and Western blotting revealed HBx protein expression in HepG2 and QBC939cells only when transfected with HBx gene.CONCLUSION: HBx gene transfection can upregulate the transcriptional expression of hTERT mRNA. | 4 | GIS-based risk analysis of debris flow:an application in Sichuan,southwest China显示文摘Debris flow is a serious geologic hazard in China.It is estimated that nationally debris flows cause up to 2 billion RMB(250 million US$) in damages and 300-600 deaths and injuries annually.To mitigate debris flow hazards,it is necessary to map,model,and identify zones of debris flow hazards and vulnerability as to inform the local people about the potential risk with a geographic information system.This research presents a regional scale case study modeling debris flow risk(hazard and vulnerability) in Sichuan Province,Southwestern China.In this area,3,290 debris flows have been identified and the spatial-temporal distribution and activity characteristics of them have been documented.Based on the available meteorological data,a Digital Elevation Model with the rate of 1:250,000 and a regional geological map,the 24-hr rainfall threshold(y) for debris flow occurrence is closely related(significant at 99% confidence level) to the index(x) defined using a geology factor(rock hardness:a) and a topographical factor(channel gradient:d) where y = 21 + 10200 / x,in which x = 2.7 × ea + 1000 × d.The discipline is constructive in developing the rainfall threshold for debris flow activity in remote mountainous areas that lack data.For a given watershed,a four-level debris flow hazard map is developed by comparing the rainfall threshold to the design rainfall intensities with 50-,20-,and 5-year average recurrence intervals,respectively.The degree of debris flow vulnerability is determined by the watershed socio-economic conditions.A four-class debris flow risk map,at the final phase of the research,is generated by combining debris flow hazards and vulnerability.With the debris flow risk assessment,the Sichuan Province is classified into the slight,moderate,severe and very severe regions,which accounts for 36%,19%,20% and 25% of total area respectively. | B. | 6 | Characteristics of pulsed plasma synthetic jet and its control effect on supersonic flow显示文摘The plasma synthetic jet is a novel flow control approach which is currently being studied. In this paper its characteristic and control effect on supersonic flow is investigated both experimentally and numerically. In the experiment, the formation of plasma synthetic jet and its propagation velocity in quiescent air are recorded and calculated with time resolved schlieren method. The jet velocity is up to 100 m/s and no remarkable difference has been found after changing discharge parameters. When applied in Mach 2 supersonic flow, an obvious shockwave can be observed. In the modeling of electrical heating, the arc domain is not defined as an initial condition with fixed temperature or pressure, but a source term with time-varying input power density, which is expected to better describe the influence of heating process. Velocity variation with different heating efficiencies is presented and discussed and a peak velocity of 850 m/s is achieved in still air with heating power density of 5.0 · 1012W/m3. For more details on the interaction between plasma synthetic jet and supersonic flow, the plasma synthetic jet induced shockwave and the disturbances in the boundary layer are numerically researched. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. | 9 | Science Letters:IGFBP7 plays a potential tumor suppressor role against colorectal carcinogenesis with its expression associated with DNA hypomethylation of exon 1显示文摘Insulin-like growth factor binding-protein-7 (IGFBP7) was obtained from our previous colonic adenocarcinoma (CRC) and normal mucosa suppression subtraction hybridization (SSH) cDNA libraries. By RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry, we found that IGFBP7 was overexpressed in CRC tissue compared to normal tissue. However, our in vitro experiments performed in 10 CRC cell lines showed that IGFBP7 expressed only in SW480 and Caco2 cell lines, which implied an underlying reversible regulatory mechanism. Using methylation-specific PCR (MSP) and bisulfite sodium PCR (BSP), we found that its expression was associated with DNA hypomethylation of exon1. This was further supported by the in vitro study which showed restored IGFBP7 expression after demethylation agent 5-aza-2’-deoxycytidine treatment. Correlation analysis between IGFBP7 expression and prognosis indicated that overexpression of IGFBP7 in CRC tissue correlated with favourable survival. Investigation of the func-tional role of IGFBP7 through transfection studies showed that IGFBP7 protein could inhibit growth rate, decrease colony for-mation activity, and induce apoptosis in RKO and SW620 cells, suggesting it a potential tumor suppressor protein in colorectal carcinogenesis. | 10 | A de novo Genome of a Chinese Radish Cultivar显示文摘Here, we report a high-quality draft genome of a Chinese radish(Raphanus sativus) cultivar. This draft contains 387.73 Mb of assembled scaffolds, 83.93% of the scaffolds were anchored onto nine pseudochromosomes and 95.09% of 43 240 protein-coding genes were functionally annotated. 184.75 Mb(47.65%) of repeat sequences was identified in the assembled genome. By comparative analyses of the radish genome against 10 other plant genomes, 2 275 genes in 780 gene families were found unique to R. sativus. | 11 | Effects of tourmaline on nitrogen removal performance and biofilm structures in the sequencing batch biofilm reactor显示文摘The effects of tourmaline on nitrogen removal performance and biofilm structures were comparatively investigated in two identical laboratory-scale sequencing batch biofilm reactors(SBBRs)(denoted SBBR1 and SBBR2) at different nitrogen loading rates(NLRs) varying from(0.24 ± 0.01) to(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day). SBBR1 was operated in parallel with SBBR2, but SBBR1 was filled with polyurethane foam loaded tourmaline(TPU) carriers and another(SBBR2) filled with polyurethane foam(PU) carriers. Results obtained from this study showed that the excellent and stable performance of SBBR1 was obtained. Ammonia nitrogen removal and total nitrogen removal were higher in SBBR1 than that in SBBR2 with increase of NLR. At an NLR of(0.24 ± 0.01) g N/(L·day), the majority of the spherical and elliptical bacteria were surrounded by the extracellular polymeric substance(EPS) and bacillus or filamentous bacteria in two SBBRs biofilms. When NLR increased to(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day), the clusters were more obvious in the SBBR1 biofilm than that in the SBBR2 biofilm. Bacteria in SBBR1 were inclined to synthesis more EPS, and the formed EPS could protect the bacteria from free ammonia(FA) under extreme condition NLR(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day). | 14 | Repeatability and Reproducibility of Quantitative Assessment of the Retinal Microvasculature Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Based on Optical Microangiography显示文摘Objective The aim of this study was to determine the repeatability and reproducibility of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) based on optical microangiography(OMAG) measurements of macular vessels in normal eyes. Methods In this prospective cohort study, 40 eyes of 40 healthy volunteers underwent repeated OCTA(Cirrus HD-OCT 5000 angiography system, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc.) scans on two separate visit days. On each visit day, the eyes were scanned three times. The following parameters were used to quantitatively describe the OCTA images of the superficial vascular network: vessel area density(VAD), vessel skeleton density(VSD), vessel diameter index(VDI), vessel perimeter index(VPI), vessel complexity index(VCI), flux, and foveal avascular zone(FAZ). Coefficient of variation(CV) and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were calculated for evaluating intravisit and intervisit repeatability, as well as interobserver reproducibility. Results The measurements showed high repeatability [CVs ≤ 4.2%(intravisit) and ≤ 4.6%(intervisit)] and interobserver reproducibility(ICCs ≥ 0.923) for all parameters. | 16 | Injections of ginkgo in the treatment of cerebral infarction: a systematic review and network Meta-analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the clinical effectiveness and safety of injections of ginkgo(GI) combined with Western Medicine(WM) for cerebral infarction(CI).METHODS: Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of CI treated by GI were searched in China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Wanfang, China Science and Technology Journal Database, Web of Science, Cochrane library, Embase, Pub Med and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, with the publication data no later than April, 2016. The Cochrane risk of bias method was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the RCTs. The data were analyzed by Review Manager 5.3, Stata 13.0,and Win BUGS 14 software.RESULTS: Totally 37 RCTs involving 4330 patientswere included. By direct comparison, the results of GI group were significantly superior to the routine WM group in the total effective rates [OR = 3.61,95% CI(2.93, 4.44), P < 0.0001], the neural function defect score(NFDS) [MD =-4.39, 95% CI(-5.47,-3.32), P < 0.0001]. Network Meta-analysis(NMA)results showed that, between 5 GIs in efficacy, the difference comparing ginaton injections(Gb E) to ginkgo-dipyidamolum injections(GD) [OR = 1.74,95% CI(0.73, 3.65)], shuxuening injections(SXN)[OR = 1.06, 95% CI(0.609, 1.697)] or ginkgolides injections(GK) [OR = 4.711, 95% CI(1.178, 13.21)]reach statistical significance; the difference comparing GD to GK reach statistical significance [OR =2.791, 95% CI(0.866, 6.908)]; the difference comparing SXN to GK reach statistical significance[OR = 4.537, 95% CI(1.203, 12.41)]. Besides, there was no difference between 4 GIs in NFDS. Probability ranking result showed a great possibility for GK [Surface under the Cumulative Ranking curve(SUCRA) = 80.3%] in improving the total effective rates, which were followed by GD(SUCRA =73.34%), SXN(SUCRA = 46.59%), Gb E(SUCRA =45.46%), floium ginkgo extract and tertram ethypyrazine sodium chloride injections(FT)(SUCRA = 35.64%). However, GK(SUCRA = 80.3%) or Gb E(SUCRA = 69.4%) was better than other GIs in reducing NFDS.GK + WM is the best treatment measures to reduce NFDS in cerebral infarction,which were followed by SXN + WM(SUCRA =51.6%), GD + WM(SUCRA = 48.1%).CONCLUSION: GIs was more effectiveness on CI than the routine Western Medicine. | 17 | Ginkgo Leaf Extract and Dipyridamole Injection as Adjuvant Treatment for Angina Pectoris:A Meta-Analysis of 41 Randomized Controlled Trials显示文摘Objective: To provide information about the effectiveness and safety of Ginkgo Leaf Extract and Dipyridamole Injection(GD) as one adjuvant therapy for treating angina pectoris(AP) and to evaluate the relevant randomized controlled trials(RCTs) with meta-analysis. Methods: RCTs concerning AP treated by GD were searched in China Biology Medicine Disc(SinoMed), PubMed, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database(CNKI), the Chinese Scientific Journals Database(VIP), Wanfang Database, Embase, and the Cochrane Library, from inception to February, 2017. The Cochrane Risk Assessment Tool was adopted to assess the methodological quality of the RCTs. The Review Manager 5.3 software was utilized to conduct the meta-analysis. Results: A total of 41 RCTs involving 4,462 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The results indicated that the combined use of GD and Western medicine(WM) against AP was associated with a higher total effective rate [risk ratio(RR)=1.25, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.21–1.29, P<0.01], total effective rate of electrocardiogram(RR=1.29, 95% CI: 1.21–1.36, P<0.01). Additional, GD combined with WM could decrease the level of plasma viscosity [mean difference(MD)=–0.56, 95% CI: –0,81 to –0.30, P<0.01], fibrinogen [MD=–1.02, 95% CI: –1.50 to –0.54, P<0.01], whole blood low shear viscosity [MD=–2.27, 95% CI: –3.04 to –1.49, P<0.01], and whole blood high shear viscosity(MD=–0.90, 95% CI: 1.37 to –0.44, P<0.01). Conclusions: Comparing with receiving WM only, the combine use of GD and WM was associated with a better curative effect for patients with AP. | 18 | Optical observations of LIGO source GW 170817 by the Antarctic Survey Telescopes at Dome A,Antarctica显示文摘The LIGO detection of gravitational waves(GW) from merging black holes in 2015 marked the beginning of a new era in observational astronomy. The detection of an electromagnetic signal from a GW source is the critical next step to explore in detail the physics involved. The Antarctic Survey Telescopes(AST3),located at Dome A, Antarctica, is uniquely situated for rapid response time-domain astronomy with its continuous night-time coverage during the austral winter. We report optical observations of the GW source(GW 170817) in the nearby galaxy NGC 4993 using AST3. The data show a rapidly fading transient at around 1 day after the GW trigger, with the i-band magnitude declining from 17:23 ± 0:13 magnitude to 17:72 ± 0:09 magnitude in ~1:8 h. The brightness and time evolution of the optical transient associated with GW 170817 are broadly consistent with the predictions of models involving merging binary neutron stars. | 19 | Dark matter direct search sensitivity of the PandaX-4T experiment显示文摘The Panda X-4T experiment, a 4-ton scale dark matter direct detection experiment, is being planned at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. In this paper we present a simulation study of the expected background in this experiment. In a 2.8-ton fiducial mass and the signal region between 1-10 keV electron equivalent energy, the total electron recoil background is found to be 4.9 × 10^(-5) kg^(-1) d^(-1) keV^(-1). The nuclear recoil background in the same region is 2.8 × 10^(-7) kg^(-1) d^(-1) keV^(-1). | 20 | Effect of drag reducing riblet surface on coherent structure in turbulent boundary layer显示文摘The characteristics of turbulent boundary layer over streamwise aligned drag reducing riblet surface under zero-pressure gradient are investigated using particle image velocimetry. The formation and distribution of large-scale coherent structures and their effect on momentum partition are analyzed using two-point correlation and probability density function. Compared with smooth surface, the streamwise riblets reduce the friction velocity and Reynolds stress in the turbulent boundary layer, indicating the drag reduction effect. Strong correlation has been found between the occurrence of hairpin vortices and the momentum distribution. The number and streamwise length scale of hairpin vortices decrease over streamwise riblet surface.
