| 2 | Simultaneous removal of chromium and arsenate from contaminated groundwater by ferrous sulfate:Batch uptake behavior显示文摘Chromium and/or arsenate removal by Fe(II) as a function of pH,Fe(II) dosage and initial Cr(VI)/As(V) ratio were examined in batch tests.The presence of arsenate reduced the removal efficiency of chromium by Fe(II),while the presence of chromate significantly increased the removal efficiency of arsenate by Fe(II) at pH 6-8.In the absence of arsenate,chromium removal by Fe(II) increased to a maximum with increasing pH from 4 to 7 and then decreased with a further increase in pH.The increment in Fe(II) dosage resulted in an improvement in chromium removal and the improvement was more remarkable under alkaline conditions than that under acidic conditions.Chromium removal by Fe(II) was reduced to a larger extent under neutral and alkaline conditions than that under acidic conditions due to the presence of 10 μmol/L arsenate.The presence of 20 μmol/L arsenate slightly improved chromium removal by Fe(II) at pH 3.9-5.8,but had detrimental effects at pH 6.7-9.8.Arsenate removal was improved significantly at pH 4-9 due to the presence of 10 μmol/L chromate at Fe(II) dosages of 20-60 μmol/L.Elevating the chromate concentration from 10 to 20 μmol/L resulted in a further improvement in arsenate removal at pH 4.0-4.6 when Fe(II) was dosed at 30-60 μmol/L. | Xiaohong Guan Haoran Dong Jun Ma Irene M. | 3 | Constitutive equation and model validation for a 31 vol.% B_4Cp/6061Al composite during hot compression显示文摘An accurate constitutive equation is essential to understanding the flow behavior of B_4C/Al composites during the hot deformation. However, the constitutive equations developed previously in literature are generally for low strain rate deformation. In the present work, we modified the general constitutive equation and take the high strain rate correction into account. The constitutive equation for a31 vol.% B_4Cp/6061 Al composite was constructed based on the flow stresses measured during isothermal hot compression at temperatures ranging from 375 to 525?C and strain rates from 0.01 to 10 s-1. The experimental flow stresses were corrected by considering temperature-dependent Arrhenius factor. The modified equation was then verified by using DEFORM-3 D finite element analysis to simulate the experimental hot compression process. The results show that the modified equation successfully predicts flow stress, load–displacement, and the temperature rise. This helps to optimize the hot deformation process,and to obtain desirable properties, such as reduced porosity and homogenous particle distribution in B_4C/Al composites. | L. Zhou C. Cui Q.Z. | 4 | High Strain Rate Superplasticity in a Micro-grained Al-Mg-Sc Alloy with Predominant High Angle Grain Boundaries显示文摘Friction stir processing (FSP) was applied to extruded Al-Mg-Sc alloy to produce fine-grained microstructure with a grain size of 2.2 μm. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) result showed that the grain boundary misorientation distribution was very close to a random grain assembly for randomly oriented cubes. Superplastic investigations in the temperature range of 425-500 ℃ and strain rate range of 1×10 2 -1×10 0 s -1 showed that a maximum elongation of 1500% was achieved at 475 ℃ and a high strain rate of 1×10 1 s -1 . The FSP Al-Mg-Sc exhibited enhanced superplastic deformation kinetics compared to that predicted by the constitutive relationship for superplasticity in fine-grained aluminum alloys. The origin for enhanced superplastic deformation kinetics in the FSP alloy can be attributed to its high fraction of high angle grain boundaries (HAGBs). The analyses of the superplastic data and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examinations on the surfaces of deformed specimens indicated that grain boundary sliding is the main superplastic deformation mechanism for the FSP Al-Mg-Sc alloy. | F. | 6 | Convective high-speed flow and field-aligned high-speed flows explored by TC-1显示文摘From June 1, 2004 to October 31, 2006, a total 465 high-speed flow events are observed by the TC-1 satellite in the near-Earth region (?13 RE < x < ?9 RE, |Y |<10 RE, |Z|<5 RE). Based on the angle between the flow and the magnetic field, the high-speed flow events are further divided into two types, that is, field-aligned high-speed flow (FAHF) in the plasma sheet boundary and convective bursty bulk flow (BBF) in the center plasma sheet. Among the total 465 high-speed flow events, there are 371 FAHFs, and 94 BBFs. The CHF are mainly concentrated in the plasma sheet, the intersection angle between the flow and the magnetic field is larger, the magnetic field intensity is relatively weak. The FHF are mainly distributed near the boundary layer of the plasma sheet, the intersection angle between the flow and magnetic field is smaller, and the magnetic field intensity is relatively strong. | 8 | Evolution of the Corrosion Product Film and Its Effect on the Erosion–Corrosion Behavior of Two Commercial 90Cu–10Ni Tubes in Seawater显示文摘The composition and structural evolution of the corrosion product film of two commercial 90Cu–10Ni tubes, namely Tube A and Tube B, after being immersed in natural seawater for 1, 3, and 6 months were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and its effect on the erosion–corrosion behavior of the tubes was determined through a rotating cylinder electrode system using various electrochemical techniques. For the freshly polished samples used as contrast samples, the flow velocity mainly enhanced the cathodic reaction at low flow velocities while both the anodic and the cathodic reactions were remarkably accelerated at higher flow velocities. The corrosion product films formed on the two commercial 90Cu–10Ni tubes after being immersed in seawater for up to 6 months are of a complex three-layer or multilayer structure. The structural evolution of the films is out of sync for the two tubes. A continuous residual substrate layer depleted of Ni was observed in the inner layer of the films on Tube B after 30, 90, and 180 days' immersion, while it was observed in the film on Tube A only after 180 days' immersion. The nature of the inner layer plays a crucial role in the erosion–corrosion resistance of the 90Cu–10Ni tubes at higher flow velocity. The film with a compact and continuous inner layer of Cu_2O doped with Ni^(2+)and Ni^(3+)which bonds firmly with the substrate could survive and even get repaired with the increased flow velocity. The film on Tube B possessing a hollow and discontinuous inner layer composed of the residual substrate was degraded rapidly with increasing rotation speed in spite of its quite good resistance at the stagnant or lower speed conditions. | Okpo O.
