MicroRNAs as novel predictive biomarkers and therapeutic targets in colorectal cancer显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most common cancer in western countries. Despite significant improvement in available treatment options, CRC still remains the second leading cause of cancer-related death. Traditionally, 5-fluorouracil has been used as the main chemotherapy drug for treatment of metastatic CRC(mCRC). However, during the last two decades more effective chemotherapeutic agents such as oxaliplatin, irinotecan and the monoclonal antibodies cetuximab, panitumumab and bevacizumab have been used in clinical practice. More recently, the therapeutic armamentarium has been supplemented by the monoclonal antibodies bevacizumab, cetuximab and panitumumab as well as the protein-trap aflibercept and the smallmolecule multi-kinase inhibitor regorafenib. One of the major problems for the management of CRC is the inherent or acquired resistance to therapeutic approaches. The discovery of microRNAs(miRNAs), a class of small, endogenous, non-coding, single-stranded RNAs that play a role as post-transcriptional regulators, has added new dimensions to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Because miRNAs are important regulators of carcinogenesis, progression, invasion, angiogenesis and metastases in CRC, they might serve as potential predictive and prognostic factors and even as therapeutic targets themselves. Several miRNAs are already known to be dysregulated in CRCs and have been linked to biological processes involved in tumor progression and response to anti-cancer therapies. This review summarizes current therapeutic approaches for treating CRC and highlights the role of miRNAs as novel predictive biomarkers and potential drug targets in CRC patients. | Verena Stiegelbauer Samantha Perakis Alexander Deutsch Hui Ling Armin Gerger Martin Pichler | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,33: | 7
Stem cell therapy for chronic skin wounds in the era of personalized medicine:From bench to bedside显示文摘With the significant financial burden of chronic cutaneous wounds on the healthcare system, not to the personal burden mention on those individuals afflicted,it has become increasingly essential to improve our clinical treatments. This requires the translation of the most recent benchtop approaches to clinical wound repair as our current treatment modalities have proven insufficient. The most promising potential treatment options rely on stem cellbased therapies.Stem cell proliferation and signaling play crucial roles in every phase of the wound healing process and chronic wounds are often associated with impaired stem cell function.Clinical approaches involving stem cells could thus be utilized in some cases to improve a body’s inhibited healing capacity. We aim to present the laboratory research behind the mechanisms and effects of this technology as well as current clinical trials which showcase their therapeutic potential.Given the current problems and complications presented by chronic wounds,we hope to show that developing the clinical applications of stem cell therapies is the rational next step in improving wound care. | Elam Coalson Elliot Bishop Wei Liu Yixiao Feng Mia Spezia Bo Liu Yi Shen Di Wu Scott Du Alexander J.Li Zhenyu Ye Ling Zhao Daigui Cao Alissa Li Ofir Hagag Alison Deng Winny Liu Mingyang Li Rex C.Haydon Lewis Shi Aravind Athiviraham Michael J.Lee Jennifer Moriatis Wolf Guillermo A.Ameer Tong-Chuan He Russell R.Reid | 2019 | Genes & Diseases2019,6,4: | 6
Clinical outcomes following salvage Gamma Knife radiosurgery for recurrent glioblastoma显示文摘Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain tumor with a survival prognosis of 14-16 mo for the highest functioning patients. Despite aggressive, multimodal upfront therapies, the majority of GBMs will recur in approximately six months. Salvage therapy options for recurrent GBM(r GBM) are an area of intense research. This study compares recent survival and quality of life outcomes following Gamma Knife radiosurgery(GKRS) salvage therapy. Following a Pub Med search for studies usingGKRS as salvage therapy for malignant gliomas, nine articles from 2005 to July 2013 were identified which evaluated rG BM treatment. In this review, we compare overall survival following diagnosis, overall survival following salvage treatment, progression-free survival, time to recurrence, local tumor control, and adverse radiation effects. This report discusses results for rG BM patient populations alone, not for mixed populations with other tumor histology grades. All nine studies reported median overall survival rates(from diagnosis, range:16.7-33.2 mo; from salvage, range:9-17.9 mo). Three studies identified median progression-free survival(range:4.6-14.9 mo). Two showed median time to recurrence of GBM. Two discussed local tumor control. Six studies reported adverse radiation effects(range:0%-46% of patients). The greatest survival advantages were seen in patients who received GKRS salvage along with other treatments, like resection or bevacizumab, suggesting that appropriately tailored multimodal therapy should be considered with each rG BM patient. However, there needs to be a randomized clinical trial to test GKRS for rG BM before the possibility of selection bias can be dismissed. | Erik W Larson Halloran E Peterson Wayne T Lamoreaux Alexander R MacKay Robert K Fairbanks Jason A Call Jonathan D Carlson Benjamin C Ling John J Demakas Barton S Cooke Christopher M Lee | 2014 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2014,5,2: | 5

2020 Roadmap on gas-involved photo-and electro-catalysis显示文摘Green reactions not only provide us chemical products without any pollution, but also offer us the viable technology to realize difficult tasks in normal conditions.Photo-,photoelectro-,and electrocatalytic reactions are indeed powerful tools to help us to embrace bright future.Especially, some gas-involved reactions are extremely useful to change our life environments from energy systems to liquid fuels and cost-effective products, such as H2 evolution(H2 production),02 evolution/reduction,CO2 reduction,N2 reduction(or N2 fixation) reactions. We can provide fuel cells clean H2 for electric vehicles from H2 evolution reaction(HER),at the same time,we also need highly efficient 02 reduction reaction(ORR) in fuel cells for improving the reaction kinetics. Moreover,we can get the clean oxidant O2 from water through O2 evolution reaction(OER),and carry out some reactions without posing any pollution to reaction systems.Furthermore,we can translate the greenhouse gas CO2 into useful liquid fuels through CO2 reduction reaction(CRR).Last but not the least,we can get ammonia from N2 reduction reaction(NRR),which can decrease energy input compared to the traditional Hubble process. These reactions, such as HER,ORR,OER,CRR and NRR could be realized through solar-,photoelectro-and electro-assisted ways. For them, the catalysts used play crucial roles in determining the efficiency and kinds of products,so we should consider the efficiency of catalysts. However, the cost, synthetic methods of catalysts should also be considered.Nowadays, significant progress has been achieved, however, many challenges still exist, reaction systems, catalysts underlying mechanisms, and so on.As extremely active fields,we should pay attention to them.Under the background,it has motivated us to contribute with a roadmap on ’GasInvolved Photo-and Electro-Catalysis’. | Yulu Yang Yang Tang Haomin Jiang Yongmei Chen Pingyu Wan Maohong Fan Rongrong Zhang Sana Ullah Lun Pan Ji-Jun Zou Mengmeng Lao Wenping Sun Chao Yang Gengfeng Zheng Qiling Peng Ting Wang Yonglan Luo Xuping Sun Alexander S.Konev Oleg V.Levin Panagiotis Lianos Zhuofeng Hu Zhurui Shen Qinglan Zhao Ying Wang Nadia Todorova Christos Trapalis Matthew V.Sheridan Haipeng Wang Ling Zhang Songmei Sun Wenzhong Wang Jianmin Ma | 2019 | Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12: | 1
Salinity effects on soil shrinkage characteristic curves of fine-grained geomaterials显示文摘Fine-grained clayey soils are prone to substantial volume changes during desiccation in response to the dynamics of their moisture regime, and are of critical importance in several geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering applications. As such, the complex interactions between the fraction of soil solids and the ionic pore fluid play a critical role in governing such volume changes, and have been the focus in studies dealing with marine geotechnology, mine-tailing ponds, engineered barrier systems, etc. With this in mind, the present investigation evaluates the volume changes and accompanying densification from a saturated slurry state to a constant volume state of a reference fine-grained geomaterial, kaolin, subjected to evaporative dewatering. For this purpose, several parametric studies involving determination of soil shrinkage characteristic curves(SSCCs) of kaolin under the influence of varied salt constituents and concentrations of pore fluid are performed. Furthermore, a critical assessment of SSCCs depicting progressive shrinkage and volume change behaviour of geomaterials is provided, followed by the analysis of experimentally obtained SSCCs of the kaolin to explore the impacts of pore fluid salinity. Moreover, the SSCCs are parameterised with a predictive model and the fitting parameters are used to quantitatively demonstrate the salinity-dependent volume change response of a representative finegrained porous system. | Partha Narayan Mishra Alexander Scheuermann Thierry Bore Ling Li | 2019 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,1: | 1

Suspension Culture and Somatic Embryogenesis of Korean Pine显示文摘Korean pine is an important afforestation tree species in Northeast China, which has a high ecological and economic value.Although regeneration of somatic embryogenesis using immature zygotic embryos of Korean pine as explants has been successful,it cannot be applied to automation and large-scale production. Therefore,we urgently need a method that can increase the output of somatic embryos(SEs)to meet the needs of large-scale production. We used Korean pine 1-1 and 1-100 cell lines as research materials to evaluate the effects of inoculum-density,culture time, orbiting speed, vessel volume, plant growth regulator(PGR)concentration, and carbon source on the proliferation of embryogenic tissue(ET).The somatic embryogenesis ability of ET cultured in different liquid suspension media was also evaluated. We found that during liquid suspension culture of Korean pine ET,the sedimented cell volume(SCV),fresh weight(FW)and dry weight(DW)were affected by inoculumdensity, culture time, orbiting speed,2,4-D concentration,6-BA concentration and carbon source type.Fourty mg⋅mL^(−1)ET were transferred to a 200 mL Erlenmeyer flask containing 20 mL liquid medium, and cultured at 100 rpm/min for 14 days to obtain the maximum proliferation. In addition,we also found that SCV,FW and DW were higher when PGRs were reduced in the liquid suspension medium. The substitution of maltose for sucrose resulted in slow growth of cultures and limited SE yield(13 SEs g^(−1)FW).Although culture proliferation was high at 50 rpm,SE yield was inhibited by 48%compared with 100 rpm(50 rpm=33 SEs g^(−1)FW;100 rpm/min=70 SEs g^(−1)FW).Cultivation in low-concentration PGR(1.15μM⋅L^(−1)2,4-D,0.25μM⋅L^(−1)6-BA)and sucrose liquid medium at 100 rpm/min(80 SEs g^(−1)FW)could not only promote culture proliferation but also increase SE yield. The determination of the suspension culture scheme of Korean pine ET provides a reference for further expansion to bioreactor culture in the future and lays a foundation for the automation and scale of somatic embryogenesis of Korean pine. | Chunxue Peng Fang Gao Hao Wang Iraida Nikolaevna Tretyakova Alexander Mikhaylovich Nosov Hailong Shen Ling Yang | 2022 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,1: | 0
Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors, and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable, assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition, approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better, depending on the central value, and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment. | 17 | Stretchable on-skin touchless screen sensor enabled by ionic hydrogel显示文摘Screen sensors are the most commonly used human-machine interfaces in our everyday life, which have been extensively applied in personal electronics like cellphones.Touchless screen sensors are attracting growing interest due to their distinct advantages of high interaction freedom, comfortability, and hand hygiene. However, the material compositions of current touchless screen sensors are rigid and fragile, hardly meeting the needs of wearable and stretchable on-skin electronics development.Additionally, these touchless screen sensors are also restricted by high power consumption, limited gesture types of recognition, and the requirement of light conditions. Here,we report a stretchable on-skin touchless screen sensor(OTSS)enabled by an ionic hydrogel-based triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG).Compared with current touchless screen sensors, the OTSS is stretchable,self-powered,and competent to recognize diverse gestures by making use of charges naturally carried on fingers without the need of sufficient light conditions. An on-skin noncontact screen operating system is further demonstrated on the basis of the OTSS,which could unlock a cellphone interface in touchless operation mode on the human skin. This work for the first time introduces the on-skin touchless concept to screen sensors and offers a direction to develop new-generation screen sensors for future cellphones and personal electronics. | Tianxing Feng Dan Ling Chaoyue Li Wentao Zheng Shichuan Zhang Chang Li Artem Emel’yanov Alexander S.Pozdnyakov Lijun Lu Yanchao Mao | 2024 | Nano Research2024,17,5: | 0
A lattice Boltzmann exploration of two-phase displacement in 2D porous media under various pressure boundary conditions显示文摘While experimental designs developed in recent decades have contributed to research on dynamic nonequilibrium effects in transient two-phase flow in porous media, this problem has been seldom investigated using direct numerical simulation(DNS).Only a few studies have sought to numerically solve Navier—Stokes equations with level-set(LS)or volume-of-fluid(VoF)methods,each of which has constraints in terms of meniscus dynamics for various flow velocities in the control volume(CV)domain. The Shan—Chen multiphase multicomponent lattice Boltzmann method(SC-LBM)has a fundamental mechanism to separate immiscible fluid phases in the density domain without these limitations. Therefore, this study applied it to explore two-phase displacement in a single representative elementary volume(REV)of two-dimensional(2D)porous media. As a continuation of a previous investigation into one-step inflow/outflow in 2D porous media, this work seeks to identify dynamic nonequilibrium effects on capillary pressure—saturation relationship(P_(c)—S)for quasi-steady-state flow and multistep inflow/outflow under various pressure boundary conditions. The simulation outcomes show that P_(c),S and specific interfacial area(a_(nw))had multistep-wise dynamic effects corresponding to the multistep-wise pressure boundary conditions. With finer adjustments to the increase in pressure over more steps, dynamic nonequilibrium effects were significantly alleviated and even finally disappeared to achieve quasisteady-state inflow/outflow conditions.Furthermore, triangular wave-formed pressure boundary conditions were applied in different periods to investigate dynamic nonequilibrium effects for hysteretical Pc—S.The results showed overshoot and undershoot of P_(c)to S in loops of the nonequilibrium hysteresis. In addition, the flow regimes of multistep-wise dynamic effects were analyzed in terms of Reynolds and capillary numbers(Re and Ca).The analysis of REV-scale flow regimes showed higher Re(1 | Guanxi Yan Zi Li Thierry Bore Sergio Andres Galindo Torres Alexander Scheuermann Ling Li | 2022 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2022,14,6: | 0
