| 5 | Matrix metalloproteinase-9 contributes to parenchymal hemorrhage and necrosis in the remnant liver after extended hepatectomy in mice显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effect of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) on the remnant liver after massive hepatectomy in the mouse.METHODS:Age-matched,C57BL/6 wild-type(WT),MMP-9(-/-),and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases(TIMP)-1(-/-) mice were used.The mice received 80%-partial hepatectomy(PH).Samples were obtained at 6 h after 80%-PH,and we used histology,immunohistochemical staining,western blotting analysis and zymography to investigate the effect of PH on MMP-9.The role of MMP-9 after PH was investigated using a monoclonal antibody and MMP inhibitor.RESULTS:We examined the remnant liver 6 h after 80%-PH and found that MMP-9 deficiency attenuated the formation of hemorrhage and necrosis.There were significantly fewer and smaller hemorrhagic and necrotic lesions in MMP-9(-/-) remnant livers compared with WT and TIMP-1(-/-) livers(P < 0.01),with no difference between WT and TIMP-1(-/-) mice.Serum alanine aminotransaminase levels were significantly lower in MMP-9(-/-) mice compared with those in TIMP-1(-/-) mice(WT:476 ± 83 IU/L,MMP-9(-/-):392 ± 30 IU/L,TIMP-1(-/-):673 ± 73 IU/L,P < 0.01).Western blotting and gelatin zymography demonstrated a lack of MMP-9 expression and activity in MMP-9(-/-) mice,which was in contrast to WT and TIMP-1(-/-) mice.No change in MMP-2 expression was observed in any of the study groups.Similar to MMP-9(-/-) mice,when WT mice were treated with MMP-9 monoclonal antibody or the synthetic inhibitor GM6001,hemorrhagic and necrotic lesions were significantly smaller and fewer than in control mice(P < 0.05).These results suggest that MMP-9 plays an important role in the development of parenchymal hemorrhage and necrosis in the small remnant liver.CONCLUSION:Successful MMP-9 inhibition attenuates the formation of hemorrhage and necrosis and might be a potential therapy to ameliorate liver injury after massive hepatectomy. | Norifumi Ohashi Tomohide Hori Florence Chen Sura Jermanus Christopher B Eckman Akimasa Nakao Shinji Uemoto Justin H Nguyen | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，19： | 3 |
| 6 | Meridional movement of northern and southern equatorial ionization anomaly crests in the East-Asian sector during 2002-2003SSW显示文摘The present paper investigates the asymmetrical variability of the location of the north and the south equatorial ionization anomaly(EIA) crests in the East-Asian sector,along with their association with simultaneous observations of equatorial electrojet(EEJ) strength,geomagnetic activity index,and solar flux index during the 2002-2003 sudden stratospheric wanning(SSW) event.Analysis of these observations indicates the existence of a large-scale quasi 16-day periodic meridional movement in both EIA crests,and also reveals a strong correlation between the quasi 16-day oscillation in geomagnetic latitudes of the EIA crest and EEJ strength.The latitude of the northern/southern EIA crest and the EEJ strength indicate that obvious synchronous periodic oscillations were in-phase in the northern and southern hemisphere when the SSW occurred.In addition,it is also found that both the EIA crest location and amplitude of the periodic movement of the EIA locations exhibit hemispheric asymmetry.The amplitude of the periodic movement of the EIA location in the southern hemisphere is larger than that of the northern hemisphere,and the southern EIA crest is further off from the equator than the north one.Understanding these asymmetries requires a combination of mechanisms that involve at least trans-equator meridional winds and the position of a sub-solar point;however,potential disturbances in neutral winds associated with the SSW may additionally complicate the equatorial ionospheric dynamics. | MO XiaoHua ZHANG DongHe Larisa GONCHARENKO ZHANG ShunRong HAO YongQiang XIAO Zuo PEI JiaZheng Akimasa YOSHIKAWA CHAU HaDuyen | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017，60，4： | 3 |

| 11 | How to win the ovarian cancer stem cell battle: destroying the roots显示文摘Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate among gynecologic malignancies.The combination of cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy is the standard regimen for the treatment of ovarian cancer.The initial treatment is usually effective,but many patients with ovarian cancer experience recurrence,and treatment options for recurrent disease remain challenging.Cancer stem cells(CSCs)are suggested to play an essential role in cancer recurrence after initial chemotherapy.Furthermore,they are of great interest as CSCs may also be involved in chemotherapy susceptibility.Thus,understanding the characteristics and mechanisms by which CSCs display resistance to therapeutic agents is important to design effective cancer treatments.In this review,we describe and discuss current therapeutic regimens for ovarian cancer,as well as the various CSC markers,association between CSCs and disease progression,correlation of CSCs with poor prognosis,enrichment of CSCs in tumor tissues following repeated chemotherapy cycles,activation of major signaling pathways following chemotherapy,and potential inhibitors that suppress these signaling cascades.In addition,clinical trials evaluating novel targeted therapies to overcome chemotherapy resistance will be reviewed.The combination of traditional chemotherapy and CSC-targeted therapy could be an effective and promising anticancer treatment for ovarian cancer.Understanding the biological properties of CSCs and the mechanism of chemotherapy resistance are critical to design and develop new therapeutic strategies to overcome CSC-associated chemotherapy resistance. | Akimasa Takahashi Linda Hong Ilana Chefetz | 2020 | Cancer Drug Resistance2020，3，4： | 2 |

| 14 | A High Resolution Nonhydrostatic Tropical Atmospheric Model and Its Performance显示文摘A high resolution nonhydrostatic tropical atmospheric model is developed by using a ready-made regional atmospheric modeling system. The motivation is to investigate the convective activities associated with the tropical intraseasonal oscillation (ISO) through a cloud resolving calculation. Due to limitations in computing resources, a 2000 km×2000 km region covering the forefront of an ISO-related westerly is selected as the model domain, in which a cloud-resolving integration with a 5-km horizontal resolution is conducted. The results indicate the importance of stratus-cumulus interactions in the organization of the cloud clusters embedded in the ISO. In addition, comparative integrations with 2-km and 5-km grid sizes are conducted, which suggest no distinctive differences between the two cases although some finer structures of convections are discernible in the 2-km case. The significance of this study resides in supplying a powerful tool for investigating tropical cloud activities without the controversy of cloud parameterizations. The parallel computing method applied in this model allows sufficient usage of computer memory, which is different from the usual method used when parallelizing regional model.
