1Classification and management of bile duct injuries显示文摘To review the classification and general guidelines for treatment of bile duct injury patients and their long term results. In a 20-year period, 510 complex circumferential injuries have been referred to our team for repair at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicasy Nutrición 'Salvador Zubirán' hospital in Mexico City and 198 elsewhere (private practice). The records at the third level Academic University Hospital were analyzed and divided into three periods of time: GⅠ-1990-99 (33 cases), G Ⅱ2000-2004 (139 cases) and GⅢ2004-2008 (140 cases). All patients were treated with a Roux en Y hepatojejunostomy. A decrease in using transanastomotic stents was observed (78% vs 2%, P = 0.0001). Partial segment Ⅳ and Ⅴ resection was more frequently carried out (45% vs 75%, P = 0.2) (to obtain a high bilioenteric anastomosis). Operative mortality (3% vs 0.7%, P = 0.09), postoperative cholangitis (54% vs 13%, P = 0.0001), anastomosis strictures (30% vs 5%, P = 0.0001), short and long term complications and need for reoperation (surgical or radiological) (45% vs 11%, P = 0.0001) were significantly less in the last period. The authors concluded that transition to a high volume center has improved long term results for bile duct injury repair. 2Taking advantage of the potential of mesenchymal stromal cells in liver regeneration:Cells and extracellular vesicles as therapeutic strategies显示文摘Cell-based therapies for acute and chronic liver diseases are under continuous progress. Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells(MSCs) are multipotent cells able to migrate selectively to damaged tissue and contribute to its healing and regeneration. The MSC pro-regenerative effect occurs due to their immunomodulatory capacity and their ability to produce factors that promote cell protection and survival. Likewise,it has been observed that part of their paracrine effect is mediated by MSC-derived extracellular vesicles(EVs). EVs contain proteins,lipids and nucleic acids(DNA,m RNA,mi RNA,lnc RNA) from the cell of origin,allowing for intercellular communication. Recently,different studies have demonstrated that MSC-derived EVs could reproduce,at least in part,the biological effects obtained by MSCbased therapies. Moreover,due to EVs' stability for long periods of time and easy isolation methods they have become a therapeutic option to MSCs treatments. 4Seasonal variation and chemical composition of particulate matter: A study by XPS, ICP-AES and sequential microanalysis using Raman with SEM/EDS显示文摘During the winter period(January–March 2016), the total suspended particles(TSP) and particulate matter smaller than 2.5 μm(PM_(2.5)) were characterized by the application of various analytical techniques in four zones of the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey in Mexico. To evaluate the seasonal variation of some elements in the particulate matter, the results of this study were compared with those obtained during the summer season(July–September 2015). The speciation of the C_(1s) signal by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the contribution of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons as the main components in both seasons. Conversely, carboxylic groups associated with biogenic emissions were detected only in winter. The percentages of SO_4^(2-) ions were lower in winter, possibly caused by the decrease in the solar radiation, and relative humidity recorded. The results of the ICP analysis revealed that Fe, Zn and Cu were the most abundant metals in both TSP and PM_(2.5) in the two seasons. There were significant seasonal variations for concentrations of As, Ni and Zn in the urban area and for Fe, As, Cd, Ni and Zn in the industrial zone. This was attributed to the greater burning of fuels as well as to an increase in vehicular traffic, the effect of thermal inversion and changes in some meteorological parameters. 8Adult female of strongyloides stercoralis in respiratory secretions显示文摘Objective:To communicate the presence of adult females,rabditoid larvae and eggs of Strongyloides stercoralis(S.stercoralis)in the respiratory secretions obtained by tracheal aspirate from a HIV-negative patient who was suffering from polymyositis,and treated with corticoids and amethopterin and assisted by pneumonia.Methods:The respiratory secretions submitted to the Parasitology Laboratory of the Mu(?)iz Hospital were made more concentrated by centrifugation(1 500 r/min for 15 seconds).Wet mount microscopy was performed with the pellet.Results:It revealed adult females,rabditoid larvae and eggs of S.stercoralis.Further parasitological studies performed after the start of the treatment with ivermectin on fresh fecal samples,gastric lavages and tracheal aspirates showed scanty mobile filariform and rabditoid larvae of the same parasite.Conclusions:The presence of adult female S.stercoralis which has never been observed before in the clinical samples submitted to our Laboratory for investigation can be considered as an indirect marker of the severe immunosupression of the patient.Bava Amadeo Javier Bava Domínguez Cecilia Troncoso Alcides 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,4:2

10Design of a Preamplifier Card for the Photomultiplier Tubes of a Gamma Camera显示文摘The service provided by the GC(Gamma Cameras)in the Nuclear Medicine departments fails because of their breakdown,generally due to the associated electronics and not to the physical detection components.For this reason,it was decided to develop an electronic system that allows the recovery and optimization of disused GC,starting with the design of the preamplifier for a PMT(photomultiplier tube).The circuit was designed and simulated and the list of components necessary for the construction of the preamplifier was generated,as well as the printed circuit board was designed for its assembly.By simulating the preamplifier this worked in linear mode.This determines that the amplitude of the output signal is proportional to the amount of charge delivered by the detector.This card allows an automatic adjustment of the signals of the PMT as do the modern GC.Jorge Luis Domínguez Martínez 2018Journal of Physical Science and Application2018,8,1:2

13Effect of low level laser therapy on dental pulp during orthodontic movement显示文摘AIM: To validate the protocol described here to be used in future clinical trials related to the effect of laser therapy on dental pulp. METHODS: Histologically treated samples from eight human healthy premolar teeth obtained from the middle root level were distributed in four groups: group 1(G1) absolute control; group 2(G2) only laser irradiation; group 3(G3) exposed only to orthodontics; and group 4(G4) treated with orthodontics and laser. Laser treatment was performed at 830 nm wavelength, 100 mW(energy 80 J/cm2, 2.2 J), for 22 s in the vestibular surface and 22 s in the palatal surface, 1 mm away from the dental root mucosa. Three staining methods were performed: hematoxylin-eosin(HE), Masson's Trichrome method and Gomori's method.RESULTS: The pulp histology parameters were evaluated and the results classified in to 3 parts: an inflammatory response, soft tissue response(dental pulp) and hard tissue response(dentin and predentin). There was no inflammation(chronic or acute) in any of the evaluated groups. The zones of pulp necrosis were found in one premolar of G3 and in one of G4; in groups G2 and G4 there was higher angiogenesis than in the other two groups. G4 group presented the highest level of vascularization. A reduced nerve density was observed in G3. A G2 specimen showed increased nerve density. A higher rate of calcification was observed in G1 compared to G2. Denticles, either real or false, were observed in G1, G2 and G3. Sclerosis of dentin and focal dentin loss was observed among all the groups. Secondary dentin was present in one sample in G1 and G2. A necrosis zone was found in one sample of G3 and G4. No differences between groups were observed in the odontoblast irregularity layer but the layer was wider in the group treated with laser only. A notable difference was detected in reduction of the cell-free layer between the groups G1 and G4. The findings in pulp tissue favor its adaptative response against dental movement induced by orthodontics. No definitive conclusions may be derived as this is a pilot study. 14DuaISPHysics:A numerical tool to simulate real breakwaters显示文摘The open-source code DualSPHysics is used in this work to compute the wave run-up in an existing dike in the Chinese coast using realistic dimensions, bathymetry and wave conditions. The GPU computing power of the DualSPHysics allows simulating real-engineering problems that involve complex geometries with a high resolution in a reasonable computational time. The code is first validated by comparing the numerical free-surface elevation, the wave orbital velocities and the time series of the run-up with physical data in a wave flume. Those experiments include a smooth dike and an armored dike with two layers of cubic blocks. After validation,the code is applied to a real case to obtain the wave run-up under different incident wave conditions. 15The detrimental effects of lipopolysaccharideinduced neuroinflammation on adult hippocampal neurogenesis depend on the duration of the pro-inflammatory response显示文摘Adult hippocampal neurogenesis is a finely tuned process regulated by extrinsic factors. Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of several pathological conditions underlying dysregulation of neurogenesis. In animal models, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced neuroinflammation leads to a neurogenic decrease mainly associated to the early inflammatory response. However, it is not well understood how the neuroinflammatory response progresses over time and if neurogenesis continues to be diminished during the late neuroinflammatory response. Moreover, it is unknown if repeated intermittent administration of LPS along time induces a greater reduction in neurogenesis. We administered one single intraperitoneal injection of LPS or saline or four repeated injections(one per week) of LPS or saline to young-adult mice. A cohort of new cells was labeled with three 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine injections(one per day) 4 days after the last LPS injection. We evaluated systemic and neuroinflammation-associated parameters and compared the effects of the late neuroinflammatory response on neurogenesis induced by each protocol. Our results show that 1) a single LPS injection leads to a late pro-inflammatory response characterized by microglial activation, moderate astrocytic reaction and increased interleukin-6 levels. This response correlates in time with decreased neurogenesis and 2) a repeated intermittent injection of LPS does not elicit a late pro-inflammatory response although activated microglia persists. The latter profile is not accompanied by a continued longterm hippocampal neurogenic decrease.
