| 1 | Dry Heat Treatment Reduces the Occurrence of Cladosporium cucumerinum, Ascochyta citrullina, and Colletotrichum orbiculare on the Surface and Interior of Cucumber Seeds显示文摘Dry heat treatment has been identifie as a method for disinfecting seed-borne pathogens in vegetable seeds. This study demonstrated that three seed-borne pathogens of cucumber(Cladosporium cucumerinum that causes scabs, Ascochyta citrullina that results in gummy stem blight,and Colletotrichum orbiculare that induces anthracnose) could be effectively eradicated from cucumber seeds by dry heat treatment. In vitro growth of these three pathogens was inhibited by dry heat treatment at 70 °C for 40 min. These pathogens were inactivated after exposing infected seeds to 70 °C dry heat for at least 90 min. Seed infection was significant y reduced by exposing the seeds to 70 °C dry heat for at least 40 min. Seed moisture content and germination were slightly reduced after 70 °C heat treatment for 40–120 min. Seed vigor remained at a high level after dry heat treatment at 70 °C for 90 min. | 2 | Development and Evaluation of a Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification Assay for the Rapid Detection and Identification of Pectobacterium carotovorum on Celery in the Field显示文摘Pectobacterium carotovorum is the causal agent of bacterial soft rot in a wide range of vegetable host species.Once P.carotovorum infects the plant,the spread of the disease is difficult to control.In this study,a rapid and sensitive method based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP)was developed for detecting P.carotovorum in celery with soft rot using a primer set designed from the pmrA conserved sequence of P.carotovorum.The specificity of the LAMP primer set for P.carotovorum was extensively validated on both P.carotovorum strains and nontarget strains.The sensitivity was 1 pg of P.carotovorum genomic DNA,which demonstrated 10 times more sensitive than the conventional PCR assay.LAMP was also used to detect P.carotovorum in bacterial suspension.The lowest detection concentration was 104 CFU·mL^−1.In addition,a LAMP assay,in conjunction with a crude DNA extraction method,was successfully performed on P.carotovorum-infected samples derived from both artificially and naturally infected plants.In summary,the LAMP assay established in this study constitutes a simple,sensitive,and rapid method for the detection of P.carotovorum,and has potential application in the control of celery soft rot disease through early detection. | Yanxia Shi Zhiwen Jin Xianglong Meng Lixue Wang Xuewen Xie Ali Chai Baoju Li | 2020 | Horticultural Plant Journal2020,6,5: | 3 |
| 3 | Accumulation and Elimination Kinetics of 2-Methylisoborneol in Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius)显示文摘2-methylisoborneol(2-MIB) is a common, earthysmelling compound that causes taste and odor issues in aquaculture. To quantify the distribution, absorption, and depuration of 2-MIB in crucian carp(Carassius carassius), we detected and measured 2-MIB it via microwave, headspace solid-phase microextraction(HS-SPME), and gas chromatography before and after exposing fish to two different concentrations of 2-MIB(200 ng/L and 500 ng/L). The results showed that during the exposure time, the fish absorbed 2-MIB rapidly within 4 h. After exposure to 2-MIB for 120 h, the 2-MIB in gill and liver were rapidly removed. The processes of accumulation and elimination of 2-MIB in fish were investigated using the one-compartment kinetic model. The modeling results showed that the range of the uptake rate constant(k1) was 0.49-6.91. The range of the elimination rate constant(k2) was 0.05-0.27 and uptake rates were higher than elimination rates. | 4 | Target serum concentration of vancomycin may be reached earlier with a loading dose显示文摘Background:Vancomycin treatment failure against vancomycin-susceptible gram-positive cocci is not rare in the intensive care unit(ICU).One of the reasons for this is the substandard drug trough concentration.We aimed to examine the hypothesis that the target serum concentration could be reached earlier with a loading dose of vancomycin.Methods:This retrospective cohort study was conducted at our ICU between June 2018 and June 2020 and involved patients who were suspected of having,or confirmed to have,gram-positive cocci infection and treated with vancomycin.One group of the patients was administered a loading dose of vancomycin(loading group)and compared with the group that did not receive a loading dose(control group).The baseline characteristics,vancomycin serum concentrations,and clinical outcomes were collected and analyzed.Results:Fifty-five patients were finally included,of which 29 received a loading dose of vancomycin.The serum concentration of vancomycin before the second dose was significantly higher for the loading group than for the control group(10.3±6.1 mg/Lvs.5.7±4.4 mg/L,P=0.002).The results for both groups were similar before the fifth dose(12.4±7.3 mg/Lvs.10.3±6.3 mg/L in the loading and the control groups,respectively;P=0.251).The 28-day mortality was lower for the loading group than for the control group(6.7%vs.34.6%in the loading and control groups,respectively;P=0.026).No significant differences were observed in serum creatinine(Cr)concentrations of the two groups.Conclusion:With the loading dose of vancomycin,the target serum concentration of vancomycin may be reached earlier without increasing the risk of acute kidney injury. | Yanxia Huang Le He Yunxin Deng Renjing Zhang Mei Meng Jiao Liu Dechang Chen | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,3: | 2 |

| 6 | Reprogramming of phytopathogen transcriptome by a non-bactericidal pesticide residue alleviates its virulence in rice显示文摘Bacteria equipped with virulence systems based on highly bioactive small molecules can circumvent their host's defense mechanisms.Pathogens employing this strategy are currently threatening global rice production.In the present study,variations in the virulence of the highly destructive Barkholderiaplantarii were observed in different rice-producing regions.The environment-linked variation was not attributable to any known host-related or external factors.Co-occurrence analyses indicated a connection between reduced virulence and 5-Amino-l,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol(ATT),a non-bactericidal organic compound.ATT,which accumulates in rice plants during metabolization of specific agrochemicals,was found to reduce virulence factor secretion by B.plantarii up to 88.8%and inhibit pathogen virulence by hijacking an upstream signaling cascade.Detailed assessment of the newly discovered virulence inhibitor resulted in mechanistic insights into positive effects of ATT accumulation in plant tissues.Mechanisms of virulence alleviation were deciphered by integrating high-throughput data,gene knockout mutants,and molecular interaction assays.TroK,a histidine protein kinase in a two-component system that regulates virulence factor secretion,is likely the molecular target antagonized by ATT.Our findings provide novel insights into virulence modulation in an important plant-pathogen system that relies on the host's metabolic activity and subsequent signaling interference. | Haruna Matsumoto Yuan Qian Xiaoyan Fan Sunlu Chen Yanxia Nie Kun Qiao Dandan Xiang Xinzhong Zhang Meng Li Bo Guo Peilin Shen Qiangwei Wang Yunlong Yu Tomislav Cemava Mengcen Wang | 2022 | Fundamental Research2022,2,2: | 2 |

| 10 | Highly effective visible-photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and simultaneous organic pollutant degradation over an urchin-like oxygen-doped MoS_(2)/ZnIn_(2)S_(4)composite显示文摘Achieving hydrogen production and simultaneous decomposition of organic pollutants through dual-functional photocatalytic reactions has received increasing attention due to the environmentally friendly and cost-effective characteristics of this approach.In this work,an urchin-like oxygen-doped MoS_(2)/ZnIn_(2)S_(4)(OMS/ZIS)composite was fabricated for the first time using a simple solvothermal method.The unique microstructure with abundant active sites and fast charge transfer channels further shortened the charge migration distance and compressed carrier recombination.The obtained composite exhibited an efficient H2 evolution reaction rate of 12.8 mmol/g/h under visible light,which was nearly times higher than pristine ZnIn_(2)S_(4),and the apparent quantum efficiency was 14.9%(420 nm).The results of the simultaneous photocatalytic H2 evolution and organic pollutant decomposition test were satisfactory,resulting in decomposition efficiencies of resorcinol,tetracycline,and bisphenol A that reached 41.5%,63.5%,and 53.0%after 4 h,respectively,and the highest H2 evolution rate was 672.7 umol/g/h for bisphenol A.Furthermore,natural organic matter(NOM)abundantly found in actual water was adopted as an electron donor for H production under simulated sunlight irradiation,indicating the promising practicability of simultaneous hydrogen evolution and NOM decomposition.Moreover,the mechanisms of the dual-purpose photocatalytic reactions,as well as the synergistic effect between the molecular structures of the organic pollutants and the corresponding adsorption behavior on the photocatalyst surface were illustrated in detail.These obtained results may serve as an inspiration for the rational design of highly efficient,dual-functional photocatalysts in the future. | Tao Yan Qianqian Yang Rui Feng Xiang Ren Yanxia Zhao Meng Sun Liangguo Yan Qin Wei | 2022 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2022,16,10: | 1 |

Space Environment Prediction Center(SEPC) affiliated with the National Space Science Center(NSSC) has been providing space weather services and helps secure space missions. Presently, SEPC is capable to offer a variety of space weather services covering many phases of space science missions including planning, design, launch,and orbital operation. The service packages consist of space weather forecasts, warnings, and effect analysis that can be utilized to avoid potential space weather hazard or reduce the damage caused by space storms,space radiation exposure for example. Extensive solar storms that occurred over Chinese Ghost Festival(CGF)in September 2017 led to a large enhancement of the solar energetic particle flux at 1 AU, which affected the near Earth radiation environment and brought great threat to orbiting satellites.
