| 2 | Variability and reduction of atmospheric pollutants in Beijing and its surrounding area during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games显示文摘The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Atmospheric Environment Monitoring Network was established by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences.The goals of the network were to monitor and provide warnings of the atmospheric quality in Beijing and its surrounding area during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.The results showed that the atmospheric complex pollution exhibited high concentrations of ozone and fine particles and oxidation in summer,with a ubiquitous regional source.The regional mean concentrations of SO2,PM2.5,NO2,and O3_8h max(the maximum daily 8 h mean) and Ox were 22±11,90±40,25±5,136±35 and 112±21 μg/m3 in summer,respectively.During the Olympic Games,the mean concentration of SO2,PM2.5,NO2,O3_8h max,and Ox were 12.5±4,56±28,23±4,114±29,95±17 μg/m3 in the region,respectively,and fell by 51.0%,43.7%,13%,20.2%,and 18.9%,respectively,compared to the prophase mean before the Olympic Games.The concentration of atmospheric pollutants declined significantly and achieved the 'Green Olympics' control goal of air quality.After the Olympic Games,SO2,PM2.5 and NOx increased significantly as the temporary atmospheric pollution control measures were terminated. | XIN JinYuan WANG YueSi TANG GuiQian WANG LiLi SUN Yang WANG YingHong HU Bo SONG Tao JI DongSheng WANG WeiFeng LI Liang LIU GuangRen | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,18: | 30 |
| 3 | Origin and molecular characterization of the human-infecting H6N1 infl uenza virus in Taiwan显示文摘In June 2013,the fi rst human H6N1 infl uenza virus infec-tion was confirmed in Taiwan.However,the origin and molecular characterization of this virus,A/Taiwan/2/2013(H6N1),have not been well studied thus far.In the present report,we performed phylogenetic and coalescent analy-ses of this virus and compared its molecular profi le/char-acteristics with other closely related strains.Molecular characterization of H6N1 revealed that it is a typical avian infl uenza virus of low pathogenicity,which might not rep-licate and propagate well in the upper airway in mammals.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the virus clusters with A/chicken/Taiwan/A2837/2013(H6N1)in seven genes,except PB1.For the PB1 gene,A/Taiwan/2/2013 was clus-tered with a different H6N1 lineage from A/chicken/Taiwan/A2837/2013.Although a previous study demonstrated that the PB2,PA,and M genes of A/Taiwan/2/2013 might be derived from the H5N2 viruses,coalescent analyses revealed that these H5N2 viruses were derived from more recent strains than that of the ancestor of A/Taiwan/2/2013.Therefore,we propose that A/Taiwan/2/2013 is a reassor-tant from different H6N1 lineages circulating in chickens in Taiwan.Furthermore,compared to avian isolates,a sin-gle P186L(H3 numbering)substitution in the hemaggluti-nin H6 of the human isolate might increase the mammali-an receptor binding and,hence,this strain’s pathogenicity in humans.Overall,human infection with this virus seems an accidental event and is unlikely to cause an infl uenza pandemic.However,its co-circulation and potential reas-sortment with other infl uenza subtypes are still worthy of attention. | Weifeng Shi Yi Shi Ying Wu Di Liu George F.Gao | 2013 | Protein & Cell2013,4,11: | 26 |

| 7 | Impact of simultaneous assay, the PCNA, cyclinDl, and DNA content with specimens before and after preoperative radiotherapy on prognosis of esophageal cancer-possible incorporation into clinical TNM staging system显示文摘AIM: The aim of the present study is to use immunohistochemical methods to investigate the clinical implications of tumor markers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and evaluate their impact on prognosis.METHODS: From November 1990 to December 1996, 47patients were treated with preoperative radiation followed by radical esophagectomy. All patients were confirmed pathologically as suffering from squamous cell carcinoma.Immunohistochemical stain was done for PCNA, cyclinD1 protein expression and DNA content analyzed by image cytometry. Kaplan-Meier method for single prognostic factor and log-rank test was used to test the significant difference. Cox stepwise regression model and prognosis index model were used for survival analysis with multiple prognostic factors.RESULTS: Radio-pathological change, T stage and N stage, as the traditional prognostic factors had statistical difference in 3-, 5- and 10-year survival rates. While, tumor cell proliferating marked PCNA, cyclinD1 and DNA content served as independent prognostic factors of esophageal carcinoma. There was definitely an identity between the single and multiple factor analyses. | 8 | Biological productivity and carbon cycling in the Arctic Ocean显示文摘Primary production, bacterial production, par-ticulate organic carbon fluxes and organic carbon burial rates were quantified during the summer period of 1999 in the Arctic Ocean via 14C uptake, 3H uptake, 234Th/238U disequilibrium and 210Pbex dating, respectively. The integrated primary production in the water column was as high as 197 mmolC/(m2·d) in the Chukchi shelf and was 3.8 mmolC/(m2·d) in the Canada Basin. These rates are higher than those reported previously. The ratios of bacterial production to primary production in the study region were higher than 0.5, indicating that microbial activity is not depressed but important in cold Arctic waters. 234Th/238U dis-equilibria were evident at the station in the Canada Basin. The presence of significant 234Th deficiency suggested that scavenging and removal processes are also important to bio-geochemical cycles of trace elements in the Arctic Ocean. | 9 | Occupant evacuation model based on cellular automata in fire显示文摘By applying the rules set in traffic flow and pedestrian flow models, a basic cellular automata model is presented to simulate occupant evacuation in fire. Some extended models are introduced to study the special phenomena of evacuation from the fire room. The key of the models is the introduction of the danger grade which makes the route choice convenient and reasonable. Fire not only influences the emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual but also affects his physical constitution, which reduces his maximal possible velocity. The models consider these influence factors by applying a set of simple but effective rules. It is needed to emphasize that all rules are established according to the essential phenomenon in fire evacuation, that is, all the occupants would try to move to the safest place as fast as possible. In this paper some special technique is intro-duced considering human behavior to make the rules more reasonable. By simulating the two-dimension pedestrian movement, the phase transition phenomena of pedestrian movement, including the up walkers moving from the bottom to the upper boundary and the right walkers moving from the left to the right boundary, are presented. | 11 | Characteristics of paleoflood deposits archived in unit T0403 of Yuxi Site in the Three Gorges reservoir areas,China显示文摘Based on the detailed analyses,multi-proxies such as AMS 14 C dating,grain size,component and morphology of heavy minerals,micromorphology of zircon,magnetic susceptibility,Rb/Sr and Hg content are used to research the paleoflood sediments archived in the Yuxi Site.The research indicates that, since 7.6 kaBP,at least 16 times of paleoflood with water level above Wusong Elevation 147.024 m(a.s.l.) left deposits in the Neolithic layers of unit T0403 from the Yuxi Site.The results are induced from the following aspects:(1)The plaeoflood sediments take on great similarities with modern flood sediments in the Yuxi Site and Zhongba Site in probability cumulative curves which mainly show a pattern of 3 segments in fluvial pattern.(2)There is some resemblance between the heavy mineral components and the zircon shape characteristics of paleoflood deposits and those of modern flood deposits.(3) Magnetic susceptibility values(40.44―70.10SI)are lower than those of sediments from cultural layers (59.59―188.68SI).(4)Hg values(290.71―742.51 ng/g)are lower than those of sediments from cultural layers(344.16―10518.17 ng/g).(5)Rb/Sr values are higher than those of sediments from cultural layers, while those of the 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th cultural layers are high,which shows that they are inundated by paleoflood.The reason for many flood deposits existing is related to the site situated on the first terrace where the Yuxi River joins with the Yangtze River.As there are some similarities between the plaeoflood sediments and those of the Zhongba Site,it is feasible to confirm the existence of paleoflood sediments based on the above points. | ZHU Cheng MA ChunMei XU WeiFeng BAI JiuJiang ZHENG ChaoGui ZHU GuangYao WANG HuiLin CHEN Ye LU XueFeng | 2008 | Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,S1: | 16 |
| 12 | Insights into the Tectonic Fractures in the Yanchang Formation Interbedded Sandstone-Mudstone of the Ordos Basin Based on Core Data and Geomechanical Models显示文摘The distribution and intensity of tectonic fractures within geologic units are important to hydrocarbon exploration and development. Taken the Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation interbedded sandstone-mudstone in the Ordos Basin as an example, this study used the finite element method(FEM) based on geomechanical models to study the development of tectonic fractures. The results show that the sandstones tend to generate tectonic fractures more easily than mudstones with the same layer thickness, and the highest degree of tectonic fractures will be developed when the sandstone-mudstone thickness ratio is about 5.0. A possible explanation is proposed for the tectonic fracture development based on two important factors of rock brittleness and mechanical layer thickness. Generally, larger rock brittleness and thinner layer thickness will generate more tectonic fractures. | 13 | Stable Initialization Scheme for K-Means Clustering显示文摘Though K-means is very popular for general clustering, its performance, which generally converges to numerous local minima, depends highly on initial cluster centers. In this paper a novel initialization scheme to select initial cluster centers for K-means clustering is proposed. This algorithm is based on reverse nearest neighbor (RNN) search which retrieves all points in a given data set whose nearest neighbor is a given query point. The initial cluster centers computed using this methodology are found to be very close to the desired cluster centers for iterative cluster-ing algorithms. This procedure is applicable to clustering algo-rithms for continuous data. The application of the proposed algo-rithm to K-means clustering algorithm is demonstrated. | 15 | Influence Analysis of Secondary O-ring Seals in Dynamic Behavior of Spiral Groove Gas Face Seals显示文摘The current research on secondary O-ring seals used in mechanical seals has begun to focus on their dynamic properties. However, detailed analysis of the dynamic properties of O-ring seals in spiral groove gas face seals is lacking. In particular a transient study and a difference analysis of steady-state and transient performance are imperative. In this paper, a case study is performed to gauge the effect of secondary O-ring seals on the dynamic behavior(steady-state performance and transient performance) of face seals. A numerical finite element method(FEM) model is developed for the dynamic analysis of spiral groove gas face seals with a flexibly mounted stator in the axial and angular modes. The rotor tilt angle, static stator tilt angle and O-ring damping are selected to investigate the effect of O-ring seals on face seals during stable running operation. The results show that the angular factor can be ignored to save time in the simulation under small damping or undamped conditions. However, large O-ring damping has an enormous effect on the angular phase difference of mated rings, affecting the steady-state performance of face seals and largely increasing the possibility of face contact that reduces the service life of face seals. A pressure drop fluctuation is carried out to analyze the effect of O-ring seals on the transient performance of face seals. The results show that face seals could remain stable without support stiffness and O-ring damping during normal stable operation but may enter a large-leakage state when confronting instantaneous fluctuations. The oscillation-amplitude shortening effect of O-ring damping on the axial mode is much greater than that on the angular modes and O-ring damping prefers to cater for axial motion at the cost of angular motion. | 16 | Geochemical characteristics of Cretaceous basaltic rocks in South China and constraints on Pacific plate subduction显示文摘Middle-Late Cretaceous Basaltic rocks (85―110 Ma) are distributed in the contemporaneous downfaulted red basins and volcanic-sedimentary basins in South China (including Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang provinces). They are geographically divided into two groups delimited by Wuyishan Range, namely the west area basaltic rocks (WABs) distributing over the west of Wuyishan Range and the east area basaltic rocks (EABs) distributing over the east of Wuyishan Range, and observed having distinct geochemical and isotopic characters. WABs are characterized by relatively low in K2O (0.44%―3.17%), alkalis (K2O+Na2O= 3.27%―6.80%) and Al2O3 (13.08%―16.75%) contents, but high in MgO (5.13%―8.78%) and TiO2 (1.12%―3.35%) contents. WABs are similar to ocean-island basalts (OIB) or intraplate basalts on trace elements and isotopes: no negative Nb and Ta anomalies, relatively low ∑REE (74.66 μg/g―287.72 μg/g) and LaN/YbN (4.49―22.10), low (87Sr/86Sr)i (average ratio is 0.704679), high εNd(t) (?1.81―8.00). In contrast, EABs display relatively high in K2O (0.55%―4.86%), alkalis (K2O+Na2O=2.95%―7.55%) and Al2O3 (15.80%―21.10%) contents, but low in MgO (2.63%―6.28%) and TiO2 (1.19%―1.86%) contents, strong negative Nb and Ta anomalies, enrichment in LILE (K, Rb, Ba and Th), relatively high ΣREE (79.68 μg/g―327.61 μg/g) and LaN/YbN (5.25―26.37), high (87Sr/86Sr)i (average ratio is 0.707658) and negative εNd(t) (?8.50― ?1.22), similar to that of IAB (island arc basalts) or CAB (continental arc basalts). Accordingly, WABs were probably generated under continental rifting tectonic setting related to asthenosphere upwelling, and hence their source was characterized by mixing between EMⅡ with DM. | 17 | Assessment of soil erosion and sediment delivery ratio using remote sensing and GIS:a case study of upstream Chaobaihe River catchment, north China显示文摘Soil erosion in catchment areas reduces soil productivity and causes a loss of reservoir capacity.Several parametric models have been developed to predict soil erosion at drainage basins,hill slopes and field levels.The well-known Universal Soil Loss Equation(USLE) represents a standardized approach.Miyun reservoir,which sits on Chaobaihe River,is the main surface source of drinking water for Beijing,the capital of China.Water and soil loss are the main reasons for sediment to enter a reservoir.Sediment yield is assessed using a version of the universal soil loss equation modified by Chinese researchers.All year 2001 and 2002 data for factors in the equation are obtained from remote sensing or collected to form an analysis database.These factors are computed and mapped using Geographic Information System tools.Based on the complex database,the modified model is developed.Through pixel-based computing the sediment yield per hydrological unit is calculated.The model does not consider sediment deposition occurring on hillslopes.Gross soil loss is often higher than the sum of those measured at catchment outlets.The sediment delivery ratio(SDR) per hydrological unit is also computed.This study analyzes the main contributions of sediment yields on sub-basins of the Chaobaihe River to the Miyun Reservoir,and discusses the possible reasons for the difference between SDRs in 2001 and 2002 at different outlets.The result shows that in the upper basin of the Miyun Reservoir,in 2001 the area of erosion that could be neglected was 8,202.76 km2,the area of low erosion 3,269.59 km2,the area of moderate erosion 3,400.97 km2,the area of high erosion 436.89 km2,the area of strong erosion 52.19 km2 and the area of severe erosion 3.13 km2.The highest soil loss was 70,353 t/km2.yr in Fengning County in 2001,followed by 64,418 t/km2.yr by Chicheng County in 2001.The SDR in 2002 was lower than that in 2001.The main reasons are the decreasing rainfall erosivity and total runoff. | Weifeng ZHOU Bingfang WU | 2008 | International Journal of Sediment Research2008,23,2: | 13 |

| 19 | IAE-adaptive Kalman filter for INS/GPS integrated navigation system显示文摘A marine INS/GPS adaptive navigation system is presented in this paper. GPS with two antenna providing vessel’s altitude is selected as the auxiliary system fusing with INS to improve the performance of the hybrid system. The Kalman filter is the most frequently used algorithm in the integrated navigation system, which is capable of estimating INS errors online based on the measured errors between INS and GPS. The standard Kalman filter (SKF) assumes that the statistics of the noise on each sensor are given. As long as the noise distributions do not change, the Kalman filter will give the optimal estimation. However GPS receiver will be disturbed easily and thus temporally changing measurement noise will join into the outputs of GPS, which will lead to performance degradation of the Kalman filter. Many researchers introduce fuzzy logic control method into innovation-based adaptive estimation adaptive Kalman filtering (IAE-AKF) algorithm, and accordingly propose various adaptive Kalman filters. However how to design the fuzzy logic controller is a very complicated problem still without a convincing solution. A novel IAE-AKF is proposed herein, which is based on the maximum likelihood criterion for the proper computation of the filter innovation covariance and hence of the filter gain. The approach is direct and simple without having to establish fuzzy inference rules. After having deduced the proposed IAE-AKF algorithm theoretically in detail, the approach is tested by the simulation based on the system error model of the developed INS/GPS integrated marine navigation system. Simulation results show that the adaptive Kalman filter outperforms the SKF with higher accuracy, robustness and less computation.
