2Allotransplantation of adult spinal cord tissues after complete transected spinal cord injury: long-term survival and functional recovery in canines显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI), especially complete transected SCI, leads to loss of cells and extracellular matrix and functional impairments. In a previous study, we transplanted adult spinal cord tissues(aSCTs) to replace lost tissues and facilitate recovery in a rat SCI model. However, rodents display considerable differences from human patients in the scale, anatomy and functions of spinal cord systems, and responses after injury. Thus, use of a large animal SCI model is required to examine the repair efficiency of potential therapeutic approaches. In this study, we transplanted allogenic aSCTs from adult dogs to the lesion area of canines after complete transection of the thoracic spinal cord, and investigated the long-term cell survival and functional recovery. To enhance repair efficiency, a growth factor cocktail was added during aSCT transplantation, providing a favorable microenvironment. The results showed that transplantation of a SCTs, in particular with the addition of growth factors, significantly improves locomotor function restoration and increases the number of neurofilament-, microtubule-associated protein2-, 5-hydroxytryptamine-, choline acetyltransferase-and tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the lesion area at 6 months post-surgery. In addition, we demonstrated that donor neurons in a SCTs can survive for a long period after transplantation. 6Xenotime-type high-entropy(Dy_(1/7)Ho_(1/7)Er_(1/7)Tm_(1/7)Yb_(1/7)Lu_(1/7)Y_(1/7))PO_(4):A promising thermal/environmental barrier coating material for SiCf/SiC ceramic matrix composites显示文摘Rare-earth phosphates(REPO4)are regarded as one of the promising thermal/environmental barrier coating(T/EBC)materials for SiCf/SiC ceramic matrix composites(SiC-CMCs)owing to their excellent resistance to water vapor and CaO–MgO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)(CMAS).Nevertheless,a relatively high thermal conductivity(κ)of the REPO_(4) becomes the bottleneck for their practical applications.In this work,novel xenotime-type high-entropy(Dy_(1/7)Ho_(1/7)Er_(1/7)Tm_(1/7)Yb_(1/7)Lu_(1/7)Y_(1/7))PO4(HE(7RE_(1/7))PO_(4))has been designed and synthesized for the first time to solve this issue.HE(7RE_(1/7))PO_(4) with a homogeneous rare-earth element distribution exhibits high thermal stability up to 1750℃and good chemical compatibility with SiO_(2) up to 1400℃.In addition,the thermal expansion coefficient(TEC)of HE(7RE_(1/7))PO_(4)(5.96×10^(−6)℃^(−1) from room temperature(RT)to 900℃)is close to that of the SiC-CMCs.What is more,the thermal conductivities of HE(7RE_(1/7))PO_(4)(from 4.38 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1) at 100℃to 2.25 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1) at 1300℃)are significantly decreased compared to those of single-component REPO4 with the minimum value ranging from 9.90 to 4.76 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1).These results suggest that HE(7RE_(1/7))PO_(4) has the potential to be applied as the T/EBC materials for the SiC-CMCs in the future.Peixiong Zhang Xingjun Duan Xiaochang Xie Donghai Ding Tao Yang Xinmei Hou Yunsong Zhao Enhui Wang 2023Journal of Advanced Ceramics2023,12,5:1

8Mapping of individual sensory nerve axons from digits to spinal cord with the transparent embedding solvent system显示文摘Achieving uniform optical resolution for a large tissue sample is a major challenge for deep imaging.For conventional tissue clearing methods,loss of resolution and quality in deep regions is inevitable due to limited transparency.Here we describe the Transparent Embedding Solvent System(TESOS)method,which combines tissue clearing,transparent embedding,sectioning and block-face imaging.We used TESOS to acquire volumetric images of uniform resolution for an adult mouse whole-body sample.The TESOS method is highly versatile and can be combined with different microscopy systems to achieve uniformly high resolution.With a light sheet microscope,we imaged the whole body of an adult mouse,including skin,at a uniform 0.8×0.8×3.5μm^(3) voxel resolution within 120 h.With a confocal microscope and a 40×/1.3 numerical aperture objective,we achieved a uniform sub-micron resolution in the whole sample to reveal a complete projection of individual nerve axons within the central or peripheral nervous system.Furthermore,TESOS allowed the first mesoscale connectome mapping of individual sensory neuron axons spanning 5 cm from adult mouse digits to the spinal cord at a uniform sub-micron resolution.Yating Yi Youqi Li Shiwen Zhang Yi Men Yuhong Wang Dian Jing Jiayi Ding Qingjie Zhu Zexi Chen Xingjun Chen Jun-Liszt Li Yilong Wang Jun Wang Hanchuan Peng Li Zhang Wenjing Luo Jian Q.Feng Yongwen He Woo-Ping Ge Hu Zhao 2024Cell Research2024,34,2:0
9Realizing n-type CdSb with promising thermoelectric performance显示文摘Realizing high performance in both n-type and p-type materials is essential for designing efficient ther-moelectric devices.However,the doping bottleneck is often encountered,i.e.,only one type of conduction can be realized.As one example,p-type CdSb with high thermoelectric performance has been discovered for several decades,while its n-type counterpart has rarely been reported.In this work,the calculated band structure of CdSb demonstrates that the valley degeneracy is as large as ten for the conduction band,and it is only two for the valence band.Therefore,the n-type CdSb can potentially realize an ex-ceptional thermoelectric performance.Experimentally,the n-type conduction has been successfully real-ized by tuning the stoichiometry of CdSb.By further doping indium at the Cd site,an improved room-temperature electron concentration has been achieved.Band modeling predicts an optimal electron con-centration of∼2.0×1019 cm−3,which is higher than the current experimental values.Therefore,future optimization of the n-type CdSb should mainly focus on identifying practical approaches to optimize the electron concentration.Peng Zhao Honghao Yao Shizhen Zhi Xiaojing Ma Zuoxu Wu Yijie Liu Xinyu Wang Li Yin Zongwei Zhang Shuaihang Hou Xiaodong Wang Siliang Chen Chen Chen Xi Lin Haoliang Liu Xingjun Liu Feng Cao Qian Zhang Jun Mao 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,13:0

11Preparation of EGCG decorated,injectable extracellular vesicles for cartilage repair in rat arthritis显示文摘Arthritis is a kind of chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease,which can destroy joint cartilage and bone,leading to joint pain,joint swelling,and limited mobility.Traditional therapies have many side effects or focus too much on anti-inflammation while neglecting joint repair.In this experiment,we combined Epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)with extracellular vesicles derived from macrophages to treat rheumatoid arthritis.Sustained-release resulted in a significant decrease in chondrocyte expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha,a decrease in apoptosis-related proteins Cytochrome C,Caspase-3,Caspase-9,and Bax.Molecular biological analysis showed that extracellular vesicles-encapsulated EGCG(EVs-EGCG)more significantly upregulated type II collagen expression by about 1.8-fold than EGCG alone,which was more beneficial for arthritis repair.Animal experiments revealed that these EGCG-coated extracellular vesicles significantly reduced swelling,decreased synovial hyperplasia,repaired cartilage,and attenuated arthritis-related pathology scores in arthritic rats.Measurement data showed that EVs-EGCG treatment reduced joint swelling by approximately 39.5%in rheumatoid rats.In vitro studies have shown that this EVs-EGCG can increase the expression of cartilage type II collagen and reduce apoptosis of chondrocytes.Moreover,it was demonstrated in vivo experiments to reduce cartilage destruction in rheumatoid arthritis rats,providing a solution for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.Changwei Song Shibo Xu Linna Chang Xingjun Zhao Xifan Mei Xiuli Ren Zhenhua Chen 2021Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,6:0
12Development of the high-strength ductile ferritic alloys via regulating the intragranular and grain boundary precipitation of G-phase显示文摘A typical G-phase strengthened ferritic model alloy(1Ti:Fe-20Cr-3Ni-1Ti-3Si,wt.%)has been carefully studied using both advanced experimental(EBSD,TEM and APT)and theoretical(DFT)techniques.During the classic“solid solution and aging”process,the superfine(Fe,Ni)_(2)TiSi-L2_(1)particles densely precipitate within the ferritic grain and subsequently transform into the(Ni,Fe)_(16)Ti_(6)Si_(7)-G phase.In the meanwhile,the elemental segregation at grain boundaries and the resulting precipitation of a large amount of the(Ni,Fe)_(16)Ti_(6)Si_(7)-G phase are also observed.These nanoscale microstructural evolutions result in a remarkable increase in hardness(100-300 HV)and severe embrittlement.When the“cold rolling and aging”process is used,the brittle fracture is effectively suppressed without loss of nano-precipitation strengthening ef-fect.Superhigh yield strength of 1700 MPa with 4%elongation at break is achieved.This key improvement in mechanical properties is mainly attributed to the pre-cold rolling process which effectively avoids the dense precipitation of the G-phase at the grain boundary.These findings could shed light on the further exploration of the precipitation site via optimal processing strategies.Mujin Yang Chao Huang Jiajia Han Haichen Wu Yilu Zhao Tao Yang Shenbao Jin Chenglei Wang Zhou Li Ruiying Shu Cuiping Wang Huanming Lu Gang Sha Xingjun Liu 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,5:0
13Enhanced bifunctional catalytic activities of N-doped graphene by Ni in a 3D trimodal nanoporous nanotubular network and its ultralong cycling performance in Zn-air batteries显示文摘Free-standing and fexible air electrodes with long-lasting bifunctional activities for both the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)are crucial to the development of wearable Zn-air rechargeable batteries.In this work,we synthesize a fexible air electrode consisting of 3D nanoporous N-doped graphene with trimodal shells and Ni particles through repeated chemical vapor deposition(CVD)and acidic etching processes.Our results indicate that such trimodal graphene morphology significantly enhances the active N-dopant sites and graphene-coated Ni surface,which consequentially boosts both the ORR and OER activities,as well as catalytic durability.First-principles density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal the synergetic effects between the Ni and the N-doped graphene;namely,the Ni nanoparticles boost the bifunctional activities of the coated N-doped graphene,and in turn the graphene-covering layers enhance the stability of Ni.Thanks to the better protection from the triple graphene shells,our trimodal N-doped graphene/Ni-based Zn-air battery can be stably discharged/recharged beyond 2500 h with low overpotentials.It is reasonable to expect that such freestanding trimodal graphene/Ni would be promising in many fexible energy conversion/storage devices.Yanyi Zhang Xiang-Peng Kong Xiaorong Lin Kailong Hu Weiwei Zhao Guoqiang Xie Xi Lin Xingjun Liu Yoshikazu Ito Hua-Jun Qiu 2022Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,3:0
