| 1 | Belowground carbon balance and carbon accumulation rate in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest显示文摘The balance, accumulation rate and temporal dynamics of belowground carbon in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest are obtained in this paper, based on long-term observations to the soil organic matter, input and standing biomass of litter and coarse woody debris, and dissolved organic carbon carried in the hydrological process of subtropical climax forest ecosystem—monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, and its two successional forests of natural restoration—coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest and Pinus massoniana forest, as well as data of root biomass obtained once every five years and respiration measurement of soil, litter and coarse woody debris respiration for 1 year. The major results include: the belowground carbon pools of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, and Pinus massoniana forest are 23191 ± 2538 g·m?2, 16889 ± 1936 g·m?2 and 12680 ± 1854 g·m?2, respec- tively, in 2002. Mean annual carbon accumulation rates of the three forest types during the 24a from 1978 to 2002 are 383 ± 97 g·m?2·a?1, 193 ± 85 g·m?2·a?1 and 213 ± 86 g·m?2·a?1, respectively. The belowground carbon pools in the three forest types keep increasing during the observation period, suggesting that belowground carbon pools are carbon sinks to the atmosphere. | 5 | TIME EVOLUTION OF LOCAL SCOUR AT OBSTACLES PROTRUDING FROM CHANNEL SIDE WALLS显示文摘This paper deals with the effects of average flow velocity, obstacle length and sediment size on time evolution of scour depth near thin, vertical obstacles, protruding at right angle from movable bed channel side-walls. These effects are studied in the framework of the 'generalised equations' of Ettema (1980), Franzetti et al. (1982) and Whitehouse (1997). The results show that i) coefficients included in the first two equations depend on flow velocity as well as on obstacle length; ii) those coefficients are independent of bed material size; iii) the coefficients involved in the equation of Whitehouse (1997) are independent of flow velocity, obstacle length and bed material size. A new method for the evaluation of Whitehouse’s time scale was obtained and a new method for the characterisation of equilibrium time was established in the framework of the equation of Franzetti et al. | 18 | A study of the chemical composition and transport of marine aerosols over the ocean near China显示文摘In this paper the authors cite the aerosol samples collected with a KA-200 Anderson cascade Impactor and a KB-120 sampler during the first cruise of the Kuroshio investigation operated by the People’s Republic of China and Japan cooperative program, from July 23 to August 21, 1987. The concentration size distributions and composition of marine aerosols over the Kuroshio area are analyzed. Neutron activation analysis is used to determine the elemental composition of the aerosols. The authors also discuss some characteristics of marine aerosols relating to long-range transport of crustal and anthropogenic elements from the continent to the remote ocean. Analytical results indicate that elements Al, Fe, Sc and Sb over this area are obviously influenced by the continent of Asia, and the size distributions are changed after long-range transport.
