| 1 | Electrodeposition of aluminium and aluminium-copper alloys from a room temperature ionic liquid electrolyte containing aluminium chloride and triethylamine hydrochloride显示文摘The electrodeposition of Al and Al-Cu binary alloys on to gold substrates from a room temperature ionic liquid electrolyte containing AlCl3-Et3NHCl was studied.The electrochemical behavior of the electrolyte and the mechanism of deposition were investigated through cyclic voltammetry(CV),and the properties of deposits obtained were assessed by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDS) and X-ray difraction(XRD).Al of 70 μm in thickness and an Al-Cu alloy of 30 μm in thickness with 8at% copper were deposited from the electrolyte.SEM images of the deposits indicate that the Al deposit was smooth and uniform,whereas the Al-Cu deposit was nodular.The average crystalline size,as determined by XRD patterns,was found to be(30 ± 5) and(29 ± 5) nm,respectively,for Al and Al-Cu alloys.Potentiodynamic polarization(Tafel plots) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic(EIS) measurements showed that Al-Cu alloys are more corrosion resistant than Al. | P.V. | 2 | GA and PSO culled hybrid technique for economic dispatch problem with prohibited operating zones显示文摘This paper presents an efficient and reliable genetic algorithm (GA) based particle swarm optimization (PSO) tech- nique (hybrid GAPSO) for solving the economic dispatch (ED) problem in power systems. The non-linear characteristics of the generators, such as prohibited operating zones, ramp rate limits and non-smooth cost functions of the practical generator operation are considered. The proposed hybrid algorithm is demonstrated for three different systems and the performance is compared with the GA and PSO in terms of solution quality and computation efficiency. Comparison of results proved that the proposed algo- rithm can obtain higher quality solutions efficiently in ED problems. A comprehensive software package is developed using MATLAB. | SUDHAKARAN M. | 4 | 肠易激综合征中下丘脑-垂体-肠腺轴调节失调:血浆细胞因子是否为潜在的生物标记显示文摘Background & Aims: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder with an etiology that has been linked to both psychological stress and infection. The primary aim of this study was to examine the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in patients with IBS and to relate such response to plasma cytokine profiles. Methods: A total of 151 subjects, 76 patients and 75 controls, were recruited. The patients with IBS were diagnosed according to Rome II criteria. Forty-nine patients and 48 matched controls had cytokine levels measured, and a subset of 21 patients and 21 controls also underwent a corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) stimulation test with plasma levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol measured. The remaining 27 patients and 27 controls underwent a dexamethasone (1 mg) challenge. Results: Cortisol and the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)- 6 (together with its soluble receptor) and IL-8 were elevated in all IBS subgroups (diarrhea predominant, constipated, and alternators), although the elevation was most marked in the constipated subgroup. There was no alteration in the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL- 10. Following CRH infusion, an exaggerated release of both ACTH and cortisol was observed in patients with IBS. There was a significant correlation between the ACTH response (δ ACTH) and the IL- 6 levels. A similar relationship existed between the δ ACTH/δ cortisol ratio and the IL- 6 levels. Dexamethasone suppression of cortisol was similar in patients and controls. Conclusions: IBS is characterized by an overactivation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and a proinflammat ory cytokine increase. | Dinan T.G. Quigley E.M.M. Background: The role of endomyocardial biopsy in diagnosing myocarditis remains controversial. Histopathology has been integrated with clinical and hemodynamic features to predict prognosis. However, the influence of histopathology on survival >5 years has not been explored. Methods: We retrospectively identified 112 consecutive patients with histopathologic confirmation of myocarditis. We examined these patients’ clinical presentation, hemodynamic assessment, hospital course, and treatment. We selected 14 variables that might influence survival without cardiac transplantation. Results: A total of 62(55% ) of 112 patients had lymphocytic myocarditis; 88(79% ) and 63(56% ) were alive without cardiac transplantation at 1 and 5 years, respectively. Median follow- up was a mean 95.5 months and median 74.5 months. Among the 55 with complete data of the 14 candidate predictor variables, age, sex, and clinical presentation with congestive heart failure and ventricular(ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation) or atrial arrhythmias(atrial fibrillation or flutter) did not predict the study end point of death or need for transplantation. In univariate analysis, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure ≥ 15 mm Hg significantly predicted the study end point. In multivariate analysis, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure ≥ 15 mm Hg and histopathology of lymphocytic, granulomatous, or giant cell myocarditis each significantly predicted mortality or transplant(P=.047, P=.013, and P=.054, respectively) on cumulative survival without cardiac transplantation. Conclusions: Histopathology predicts long- term survival in patients with myocarditis. Clinical presentation, including presentation with congestive heart failure, ventricular tachycardia/ ventricular fibrillation, or atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter, does not predict survival without transplantation.
