3End of Life Experience of Symptom Cluster and Their Management in Hong Kong Chinese Patients with Lung Cancer Who Receive Palliative Radiotherapy显示文摘Breathlessness, fatigue, and anxiety are distressing symptoms for patients with advanced lung cancer, however, they are not relieved by palliative RT and are often viewed as neglected areas of clinical practice. This paper aims to review def initions of, and explore patients' experiences of, breathlessness, fatigue, and anxiety. Further, it will outline existing approaches, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, to treat them. Current treatments and perceptions of these symptoms will be discussed in the context of Hong Kong health care service. The review of literature also shows that breathlessness, fatigue and anxiety appears to have similar emotional origins. A contemporary approach of using a common pyschoeducational intervention to treat these symptoms together as a cluster in end of life care will be discussed.Carmen W.H. CHAN S.Y. CHAIR Y.Y. 5THE COUPLED FEM ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSIENT TEMPERATURE FIELD DURING INERTIA FRICTION WELDING OF GH4169 ALLOY显示文摘The inertia friction welding process is a non-linear process because of the interaction between the temperature field and the material properties as well as the friction force. A thermo-mechanical coupled finite element model is established to simulate the temperature field of this process. The transient temperature distribution during the inertia friction welding process of two similar workpieces of GH4169 alloy is calculated. The region of the circular cross-section of the workpiece is divided into a number of four-nodded isoparametric elements. In this model, the temperature dependent thermal properties, time dependent heat inputs, contact condition of welding interface, and deformation of the flash were considered. At the same time, the convection and radiation heat losses at the surface of the workpieces were also considered. A temperature data acquisition system was developed. The temperature at some position near the welding interface was measured using this system. The calculated temperature agrees well with the experimental data. 7PRECIPITATION HARDENING IN B2-ORDERED NiAl BY Ni_(2)AlTi COMPOUND显示文摘Microstructural variations and correlated hardness changes in B2-ordered NiAl con- taining fine precipitation of NiAlTi have been investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and hardness tests. The amount of age hardening is not large as compared to the large microstructural variations during aging. TEM obser- vations have revealed that the L21 -type Ni2 AITi precipitates keep a lattice coherency with the NiA1 matrix at the beginning of aging. By longer periods of aging Ni2AITi precipitates lose their coherency and change their morphology to the globular ones surrounded by misfit dislocations. The temperature dependence of the yield strength of precipitate-containing B2-ordered NiAl was investigated by compression tests over the temperature range of 873-1273K. The fine precipitation of Ni2 A1Ti was found to enhance greatly the yield strength and the high-temperature strength is comparison with that of superalloy Mar-M200.W.H. Tian, K. Ohishi and M. 9Inactivation of infectious bursal disease virus by binary ethylenimine and formalin显示文摘In this experiment conducted to study the inactivation dynamics of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) by binary ethylenimine (BEI) in comparison with formalin, IBDV was isolated from the bursa of infected chickens and its confirmation was done by agar gel precipitation test. Viral suspensions were subjected to inactivation with BEI and formalin for pre-set time in-tervals. BEI was employed at concentrations of 0.001 and 0.002 mol/L while formalin was used at 0.1% and 0.2%. Sampling was done at 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h of incubation and samples were tested for their inactivation status in 9-day-old embryonated eggs and 3-week-old broiler chickens. IBDV was completely inactivated by 0.001 and 0.002 mol/L BEI after 36 h of incubation at 37 °C, whereas formalin at 0.1% and 0.2% concentrations inactivated IBDV in 24 h.HABIB M. HUSSAIN I. FANG W.H. 11PRECIPITATION BEHAVIOUR AND HARDENING OFB2-ORDERED Ni(Al, Ta)显示文摘Precipitation of Ni2Al in supersaturated NiAl containing Ta and corresponding hardening have been investigated by hardness measurements and by transmission electron microscope observations. Selected area electron diffraction, high resolution electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer analysis have shown that the Ni2Al with a hexagonal structure precipitates coherently in the B2-NiAl matrix. Ni2Al is an ordered phase with a. unit cell parameter, aNi2All=aNiAl and CNi2Al= aNiAl. The orientation relationship between the Ni2Al precipitate and the B2-NiAl matrix is (0001)Ni2Al (111)NiAl and [1120]Ni2Al[110]NiAl. NiAlhardens appreciably by the precipitation of Ni2Al phase.W.H. 12MICROSTRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH- STRAIN-RATE PLASTIC DEFORMATION IN THE ELECTROFORMED COPPER LINER OF SHAPED CHARGES显示文摘The microstructures of electroformed copper liners of shaped charges that had undergone high-strain-rate deformation were observed by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Meanwhile, the orientation distribution of the grains in the recovered jet was examined by electron backscattering Kikuchi pattern (EBSP) technique. EBSP analysis re- veals that the fibrous texture observed in the as-electroformed copper liners disappeared after explosive detonation deformation. OM observation shows that the microstructure evolves system- atically from the jet center to its perimeter during cooling from high temperatures after explo- sive detonation deformation. This microstructural characteristic is similar to that of solidification, i.e. there exist equiaxed grains in the center of the jet and significant columnar grains around the equiaxed grains. The result reveals that there is melting-related phenomenon in the jet center. Corresponding microhardness variations from the jet center to its perimeter is also determined. All the phenomena can be explained by a strong gradient of temperature across the section of the jet during plastic deformation at high-strain-rate.A.L. Fan W.H. Tian Q. Suns B.S. 14THREE-DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODELINGOF COHESIVE SEDIMENT TRANSPORT BY TIDAL CURRENTIN PEARL RIVER ESTUARV显示文摘A three-dimensional numerical model of suspended sediment transport taking into account the effects of cohesiveness between sediments is presented. An efficient operator splitting scheme is employed to solve the equations of mass conservation, momentum and suspended sediment transport. The splitting method partitions a time step into three fractional time steps according to physical phenomena. In the first step, advection and Coriolis force are solved by Eulerian-Lagrangian method (ELM). Horizontal diffusion is approximated by implicit finite element method (FEM) for each horizontal layer in the second step. In the last step, vertical diffusion and pressure gradient are discretized by implicit finite difference method (FDM) for each nodal column. The continuity equation is solved by implicit FEM within an entire time step. The sigma coordinate system for vertical columns and nine-node isoparameteric finite elements for horizontal planes are employed in the model. Empirical functions specifically developed for cohesive sediments in China have been incorporated into the model. The model has been applied to investigate the suspended sediment concentration and seabed evolution in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE) in China. Computed results show that the distribution of sediment concentration and seabed evolution is in agreement with field measurements. In addition, the effect of the size of time step on result is discussed. 17Transitional geology and its effects on development and longwall mining in Pittsburgh Seam显示文摘This paper presents the geologic and ground control challenges that were encountered by Consol Energy's coal mining operations in southwestern Pennsylvania,USA. Geologic encounters,such as sandstoneto-limestone geology transition,massive sandstone channels,shale channels,pyritic rich green claystone,laminated roof,and soft floor,have significantly impacted the development and longwall mining in Consol's Pittsburgh Seam coal mines. Experience from different mines shows that,in the sandstone-to-limestone geology transition zone,1.83 m high-tension,fully-grouted primary bolts employed along with 4.88 m center cable bolts at every other strap greatly improved beam building and ensured proper anchorage into the competent roof. Hydraulic fracturing of the massive sandstone was often necessary to enhance caving of the massive sandstone behind the shields to relieve pressure at the face. The presence of soft floor coupled with presence of thick floor coal and deep cover,induced excessive headgate convergence during retreat of the first right hand longwall panel. In all,it is important to explore the roof and in-seam geology in detail to delineate normal and anomalous geologic conditions prior to and during development. 20EXPERIMENTS ON FLOW AROUND A CYLINDER IN A SCOURED CRANNEL BED显示文摘The flow pattern around a cylinder, installed in a scourd channel bed, was experimentally investigated. Detailed measurements of the instantaneous 3D velocities were performed by using an Acoustic Doppler Velocity Profiler (ADVP), from which the profiles of the time^averaged velocities and turbulence stresses were obtained. It is shown that the influence of thC cylinder and of the scour hole alters the approach flow; this is essentially confined to the viciulty of the cylinder and to the inside of the scour hole. The horseshoe vortex is measured as a flow reversal inside the scour hole, formed by the downward flow along the cylinder face and the reversed flow at the scour bed.I. ISTIARTO and W.H. GRAF 1 Res.
