| 2 | Whole-genome sequencing provides insights into the genetic diversity and domestication of bitter gourd(Momordica spp.)显示文摘Bitter gourd(Momordica charantia)is a popular cultivated vegetable in Asian and African countries.To reveal the characteristics of the genomic structure,evolutionary trajectory,and genetic basis underlying the domestication of bitter gourd,we performed whole-genome sequencing of the cultivar Dali-11 and the wild small-fruited line TR and resequencing of 187 bitter gourd germplasms from 16 countries.The major gene clusters(Bi clusters)for the biosynthesis of cucurbitane triterpenoids,which confer a bitter taste,are highly conserved in cucumber,melon,and watermelon.Comparative analysis among cucurbit genomes revealed that the Bi cluster involved in cucurbitane triterpenoid biosynthesis is absent in bitter gourd.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the TR group,including 21 bitter gourd germplasms,may belong to a new species or subspecies independent from M.charantia.Furthermore,we found that the remaining 166 M.charantia germplasms are geographically differentiated,and we identified 710,412,and 290 candidate domestication genes in the South Asia,Southeast Asia,and China populations,respectively.This study provides new insights into bitter gourd genetic diversity and domestication and will facilitate the future genomics-enabled improvement of bitter gourd. | Junjie Cui Yan Yang Shaobo Luo Le Wang Rukui Huang Qingfang Wen Xiaoxia Han Nansheng Miao Jiaowen Cheng Ziji Liu Changyuan Zhang Chengcheng Feng Haisheng Zhu Jianwen Su Xinjian Wan Fang Hu Yu Niu Xiaoming Zheng Yulan Yang Dai Shan Zhensheng Dong Weiming He Narinder P.S.Dhillon Kailin Hu | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 7 |

| 16 | Allometric models for aboveground biomass of six common subtropical shrubs and small trees显示文摘The aboveground biomass(AGB)of shrubs and small trees is the main component for the productivity and carbon storage of understory vegetation in subtropical secondary forests.However,few allometric models exist to accurately evaluate understory biomass.To estimate the AGB of five common shrub(diameter at base<5 cm,<5 m high)and one small tree species(<8 m high,trees’s seedling),206 individuals were harvested and species-specific and multi-species allometric models developed based on four predictors,height(H),stem diameter(D),crown area(Ca),and wood density(ρ).As expected,the six species possessed greater biomass in their stems compared with branches,with the lowest biomass in the leaves.Species-specific allometric models that employed stem diameter and the combined variables of D~2H andρDH as predictors accurately estimated the components and total AGB,with R^(2) values from 0.602 and 0.971.A multi-species shrub allometric model revealed that wood density×diameter×height(ρDH)was the best predictor,with R^(2) values ranging from between 0.81 and 0.89 for the components and total AGB,respectively.These results indicated that height(H)and diameter(D)were effective predictors for the models to estimate the AGB of the six species,and the introduction of wood density(ρ)improved their accuracy.The optimal models selected in this study could be applied to estimate the biomass of shrubs and small trees in subtropical regions. | Cheng Huang Chun Feng Yuhua Ma Hua Liu Zhaocheng Wang Shaobo Yang Wenjing Wang Songling Fu Han Y.H.Chen | 2022 | Journal of Forestry Research2022,33,4: | 1 |

| 18 | Remotely mind-controlled metasurface via brainwaves显示文摘The power of controlling objects with mind has captivated a popular fascination to human beings.One possible path is to employ brain signal collecting technologies together with emerging programmable metasurfaces(PM),whose functions or operating modes can be switched or customized via on-site programming or pre-defined software.Nevertheless,most of existing PMs are wire-connected to users,manually-controlled and not real-time.Here,we propose the concept of remotely mind-controlled metasurface(RMCM)via brainwaves.Rather than DC voltage from power supply or AC voltages from signal generators,the metasurface is controlled by brainwaves collected in real time and transmitted wirelessly from the user.As an example,we demonstrated a RMCM whose scattering pattern can be altered dynamically according to the user’s brain waves via Bluetooth.The attention intensity information is extracted as the control signal and a mapping between attention intensity and scattering pattern of the metasurface is established.With such a framework,we experimentally demonstrated and verified a prototype of such metasurface system which can be remotely controlled by the user to modify its scattering pattern.This work paves a new way to intelligent metasurfaces and may find applications in health monitoring,5G/6G communications,smart sensors,etc. | Ruichao Zhu Jiafu Wang Tianshuo Qiu Yajuan Han Xinmin Fu Yuzhi Shi Xingsi Liu Tonghao Liu Zhongtao Zhang Zuntian Chu Cheng‑Wei Qiu Shaobo Qu | 2022 | eLight2022,2,1: | 1 |
