| 1 | Comparison of clinical outcomes between femtosecond laser-assisted versus conventional phacoemulsification显示文摘Background:To compare femtosecond laser-assisted versus conventional phacoemulsification in terms of visual and refractive outcomes,cumulative dissipated energy,anterior chamber inflammation and endothelial cell loss.Methods:In this retrospective cohort study,records of eyes that underwent femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery(FLACS)or conventional phacoemulsification(CP)were reviewed.The Victus femtosecond laser(Bausch and Lomb,Germany)was used to carry out corneal incisions,anterior capsulotomy,and lens fragmentation in FLACS procedures.Manifest refraction spherical equivalence(MRSE),uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA),corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),cumulative dissipated energy(CDE),postoperative cells and flare and endothelial cell count data were collected.Subgroup analysis of the visual acuity tests was performed based on the type of intraocular lens implanted(monofocal,monofocal toric,multifocal,multifocal toric,accommodating).Results:A total of 735 eyes were included in the study(296 eyes for the FLACS group and 439 eyes for the CP group).At one year follow-up,120 eyes comprised the FLACS group and 265 eyes for the CP group.MRSE in the FLACS group was−0.16±0.58 D and−0.20±0.52 D in the CP group(P=0.50).UDVA in the FLACS group was 20/25(mean logMAR 0.12±0.13)and 20/25(mean logMAR 0.11±0.13)in the CP group(P=0.48).CDVA was 20/20(mean logMAR 0.03±0.07)in the FLACS group and 20/20(mean logMAR 0.02±0.06)in the CP group(P=0.15).No statistically significant trend was seen for FLACS versus CP by intraocular type for visual acuity.CDE for the different cataract grades ranged from 6.97±5.74 to 29.02±16.07 in the FLACS group and 7.59±6.42 to 35.69±18.30 in the CP group.The FLACS group was significantly lower for post-operative central corneal edema(P=0.05),cells and flare(P=0.01),and endothelial cell loss(P=0.04).Conclusions:Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and conventional phacoemulsification had similar refractive and visual outcomes.Phacoemulsification energy,anterior chamber inflammation and corneal endothelial cell loss were less in the femtosecond laser group. | Robert Edward Ty Ang Michelle Marie Salcedo Quinto Emerson Marquez Cruz Mark Christian Reyes Rivera Gladness Henna Austria Martinez | 2018 | Eye and Vision2018，5，1： | 10 |

| 3 | Association between Helicobacterpylori, Epstein-Barr virus, human papillomavirus and gastric adenocarcinomas显示文摘AIM To correlate Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori), Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) and human papillomavirus(HPV) with gastric cancer(GC) cases in Pará State, Brazil.METHODS Tissue samples were obtained from 302 gastric adenocarcinomas. A rapid urease test was used to detect the presence of H. pylori, and the presence of the cagA gene in the HP-positive samples was confirmed by PCR. An RNA in situ hybridization test designed to complement Eber1 RNA was used to detect the presence of EBV in the samples, and the L1 region of HPV was detected using nested PCR. Positive HPV samples were genotyped and analyzed for E6 and E7 viral gene expression. Infections were also correlated with the clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients.RESULTS The majority of the 302 samples analyzed were obtained from men(65%) aged 55 years or older(67%) and were classified as the intestinal subtype(55%). All three pathogens were found in the samples analyzed in the present study(H. pylori : 87%, EBV: 20%, HPV: 3%). Overall, 78% of the H. pylori-positive(H. pylori+) samples were cag A +(H. pylori-cag A+), and there was an association between the cytotoxic product of this gene and EBV. Coinfections of H. pylori-cagA+ and EBV were correlated with the most advanced tumor stages. Although only 20% of the tumors were positive for EBV, infection with this virus was associated with distant metastasis. Only the HPV 16 and 18 strains were found in the samples, although no expression of the E6 and E7 oncoproteins was detected. The fundus of the stomach was the region least affected by the pathogens.CONCLUSION HPV was not involved in gastric tumorigenesis. | 5 | Feasibility study of computed vs measured high b-value(1400 s/mm2) diffusion-weighted MR images of the prostate显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the impact of computed b = 1400 s/mm2(C-b1400) vs measured b = 1400 s/mm2(M-b1400) diffusion-weighted images(DWI) on lesion detection rate, image quality and quality of lesion demarcation using a modern 3T-MR system based on a small-field-of-view sequence(sFOV). METHODS: Thirty patients(PSA: 9.5 ± 8.7 ng/mL; 68 ± 12 years) referred for magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) of the prostate were enrolled in this study. All measurements were performed on a 3T MR system.For DWI, a single-shot EPI diffusion sequence(b = 0, 100, 400, 800 s/mm2) was utilized. C-b1400 was cal-culated voxelwise from the ADC and diffusion images. Additionally, M-b1400 was acquired for evaluation and comparison. Lesion detection rate and maximum lesion diameters were obtained and compared. Image quality and quality of lesion demarcation were rated accord-ing to a 5-point Likert-type scale. Ratios of lesion-to-bladder as well as prostate-to-bladder signal intensity(SI) were calculated to estimate the signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR). RESULTS: Twenty-four lesions were detected on M-b1400 images and compared to C-b1400 images. C-b1400 detected three additional cancer suspicious lesions. Overall image quality was rated significantly better and SI ratios were significantly higher on C-b1400(2.3 ± 0.8 vs 3.1 ± 1.0, P < 0.001; 5.6 ± 1.8 vs 2.8 ± 0.9, P < 0.001). Comparison of lesion size showed no significant differences between C- and M-b1400(P = 0.22). | 7 | Safety and effectiveness of the SUPRACOR presbyopic LASIK algorithm on hyperopic patients显示文摘Background:To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Supracor excimer laser algorithm to treat hyperopic presbyopic patients using laser in-situ keratomileusis(LASIK).Methods:This is a retrospective case review of patients diagnosed with hyperopia(Sphere≥+0.0 D and presbyopia reading add≥1.0 D)who underwent Supracor excimer laser treatment on at least one eye for presbyopia correction from year May 2011 to May 2013.Binocular vision was further analyzed after patients were subdivided into three groups:Group A(n=22 eyes,11 patients)had Supracor on both eyes;Group B(n=18 eyes,18 patients)had Supracor in one eye and hyperopic LASIK on fellow eye;and Group C(n=29 eyes,29 patients)had Supracor in one eye and no treatment on the fellow eye.Results:This study evaluated 58 patients wherein 69 eyes underwent Supracor presbyopic LASIK.Preoperatively,mean manifest refraction spherical equivalent(MRSE)of all eyes that underwent Supracor was+1.37±0.72 D with mean uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA),uncorrected intermediate visual acuity(UIVA),and uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA)of 20/50(0.35 logMAR),20/50(0.35 logMAR),and J9(0.61 logMAR),respectively.At 6 months postoperatively,mean MRSE was−0.43±0.59 D with mean UDVA,UIVA and UNVA of 20/25(0.13 logMAR),20/20(0.01 logMAR),and J1(0.05 logMAR),respectively.Loss of two lines of best-corrected distance visual acuity(BCDVA)was seen in 6%of eyes.Mean corneal steepening of 1.0 D at the 3 mm zone and 0.7 D in the 5 mm zone was observed.Mean vertical coma increased from−0.02 to+0.10 while mean 4th order spherical aberration became more negative from 0.20 to−0.14.Mean binocular UDVA,UIVA,and UNVA are 20/20,20/20 and J1,respectively,in all treatment groups at the 6 month postoperative follow-up.No significant differences in binocular UDVA(p≥0.36),UIVA(p≥0.19)and UNVA(p≥0.56)among groups were seen.Conclusions:Supracor excimer laser algorithm is safe and effective for the treatment of presbyopia in hyperopes.Monolateral and bilateral Supracor treatments yielded similarly good binocular vision outcomes. | Robert Edward T.Ang Emerson M.Cruz Alex U.Pisig Maria Luisa Patricia C.Solis Rosalie Mae M.Reyes Gerhard Youssefi | 2016 | Eye and Vision2016，3，1： | 3 |
