| 1 | Recent Advances in Researches on Physiologically Active Substances in Holothurians显示文摘In this report, we reviewed recent literature on physiologically active substances from sea cucumbers (SCs) andtheir activities together with results obtained from our study. Preventive properties against lipid metabolism were reported inrats using a whole SC preparation with no particular constituent specified. Administration of the preparation lowered serumand hepatic cholesterol levels and improved the HDL/LDL ratio. These functions may be attributed to the stimulatory effectof the extract on the secretion of cholesterol in feces. Novel fucosylated chondroitin sulfates (FCSs) from Ludwigothureagrisea significantly induced fibroblast growth factor 2-dependent angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HU-VECs). The proangiogenetic activity seemed attributable to the action of the sulfated fucose branches on the polysaccharide.SCs contain mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) that are capable of absorbing UV. A biogenetic precursor of MAAs wasfirst reported in SCs. The anti-proliferative effects of a branched chain fatty acid from a sea cucumber on prostate cancercells was reported with the activity of 5-lipoxygenase. Glycosphingolipid constituents in SCs have been systematically ana-lyzed over the past ten years. The results showed that the gangliosides in several SCs differed from those of mammals in thata sialic acid of SC gangliosides directly binded to glucose of cerebroside. Neuritogenic activity of the glycosphingolipids wasdemonstrated in vitro experiments and may lead to the development of therapeutic products for neurological disorders. | 2 | Phase Behavior and Crystal Structure of Perovskite-Type Rare Earth Complex Oxides显示文摘Several compounds of rare earth complex oxides containing manganese and titanium were synthesized in Ar, and their crystal structures were analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction data and Rietveld method. Structures of A 0.67 Ln 0.33 Mn 0.33 Ti 0.67 O3 (A=Ca or Sr and Ln=rare earth) were found to have orthorhombic symmetry with the space group Pnma, and their interatomic distances and bond angles were obtained. This space group was also derived from electron microscopic study. Electrical conductivity of Ca 0.67 Ln 0.33 Mn 0.33 Ti 0.67 O3 for several rare earth elements showed a semiconducting property with the activation energy of 0.4 eV. | 4 | Effect of herbal medicine Juzentaihoto on hepatic and intestinal heat shock gene expression requires intestinal microflora in mouse显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the role of intestinal microflora in the effects of multi-herbal medicine on gene expression in the gut and liver. METHODS: The multi-herbal medicine Juzentaihoto (JTX) was administered to five germ-free mice and regular mice for 2 wk. Among the results of the comprehensive gene chip analysis of the intestine and liver, we featured heat shock proteins (HSPs) 70 and 105 because their gene expression changed only in the presence of microflora. Real-time RT-PCR was performed to confirm the expression levels of these HSP genes. To determine whether JTX acts directly on the HSP genes, sodium arsenite (SA) was used to induce the heat shock proteins directly. To examine the change of the intestinal microflora with administration of JTX, the terminal restriction fragment polymorphism (T-RFLP) method was used. To identify the changed bacteria, DNA sequencing was performed. RESULTS: Heat shock protein gene expression,documented by gene chip and real-time RT-PCR, changed with the administration of JTX in the regular mice but not in the germ-free mice. JTX did not suppress the direct induction of the HSPs by SA. T-RFLP suggested that JTX decreased unculturable bacteria and increased Lactobacillus johnsoni. These data suggested that JTX changed the intestinal microflora which, in turn, changed HSP gene expression. | 5 | Surgically treated diaphragmatic perforation after radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘We review 6 cases of diaphragmatic perforation, with and without herniation, treated in our institution. All patients with diaphragmatic perforation underwent radiofrequency ablation(RFA) treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) performed at Kurume University Hospital and Tobata Kyoritsu Hospital. We investigated the clinical profiles of the 6 patients between January 2003 and December 2013. We further describe the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of diaphragmatic perforation. The change in the volume of liver and the change in the Child-Pugh score from just after the RFA to the onset of perforation was evaluated using a paired t-test. At the time of perforation, 4 patients had herniation of the viscera, while the other 2 patients had no herniation. The majority of ablated tumors were located adjacent to the diaphragm, in segments 4, 6, and 8. The average interval from RFA to the onset of perforation was 12.8 mo(range, 6-21 mo). The median Child-Pugh score at the onset of perforation(8.2) was significantly higher compared to the median Child-Pugh score just after RFA(6.5)(P = 0.031). All patients underwent laparotomy and direct suture of the diaphragm defect, with uneventful post-surgical recovery. Diaphragmatic perforation after RFA is not a matter that can be ignored. | 6 | Development and application of traffic accident density estimation models using kernel density estimation显示文摘Traffic accident frequency has been decreasing in Japan in recent years.Nevertheless,many accidents still occur on residential roads.Area-wide traffic calming measures including Zone 30,which discourages traffic by setting a speed limit of 30 km/h in residential areas,have been implemented.However,no objective implementation method has been established.Development of a model for traffic accident density estimation explained by GIS data can enable the determination of dangerous areas objectively and easily,indicating where area-wide traffic calming can be implemented preferentially.This study examined the relations between traffic accidents and city characteristics,such as population,road factors,and spatial factors.A model was developed to estimate traffic accident density.Kernel density estimation(KDE) techniques were used to assess the relations efficiently.Besides,16 models were developed by combining accident locations,accident types,and data types.By using them,the applicability of traffic accident density estimation models was examined.Results obtained using Spearman rank correlation show high coefficients between the predicted number and the actual number.The model can indicate the relative accident risk in cities.Results of this study can be used for objective determination of areas where area-wide traffic calming can be implemented preferentially,even if sufficient traffic accident data are not available. | Seiji Hashimoto Syuji Yoshiki Ryoko Saeki Yasuhiro Mimura Ryosuke Ando Shutaro Nanba | 2016 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2016，3，3： | 3 |
| 7 | Hypothyroidism in patients with autoimmune pancreatitis显示文摘AIM To examine thyroid function and clinical features of hypothyroidism in autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP) patients.METHODS We examined thyroid function in 77 patients with type 1 AIP(50 males, 27 females; median age 68 years, range 33-85) diagnosed according to the Japanese diagnostic criteria for AIP 2011. We compared clinical and serological findings between patients with and without various categories of hypothyroidism. The change in hypothyroidism after steroid therapy was also examined. RESULTS Eight patients(10%) had hypothyroidism of 6 patients had subclinical hypothyroidism with a normal serum free thyroxine(FT4) and high thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) level, and 2 patients had central hypothyroidism with low serum free triiodothyronine(FT3), FT4 and TSH levels. A significant goiter of the thyroid was not observed in any patient. There were no significant differences in age; male to female ratio; serum concentrations of IgG and IgG 4-related disease(IgG4-RD); presence of antithyroglobulin antibody, antinuclear antigen or rheumatoid factor; or presence of extrapancreatic lesions between the 6 patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and patients with euthyroidism. After steroid therapy, both subclinical and central hypothyroidism improved with improvement of the AIP.CONCLUSION Hypothyroidism was observed in 8(10%) of 77 AIP patients and was subclinical in 6 patients and central in 2 patients.
