1Ozone mini-hole occurring over the Tibetan Plateau in December 2003显示文摘By analyzing the total ozone data from TOMS and ground-based observations, it is found that a large area with extremely low ozone occurred over the Tibetan Plateau during December 14-17, 2003. After correcting the bias in TOMS data, the area with the total ozone < 220 DU is found to be over 2500000 km2, and the minimum value is only 190 DU. 2Ciliary parathyroid hormone signaling activates transforming growth factor-βto maintain intervertebral disc homeostasis during aging显示文摘Degenerative disc disease(DDD) is associated with intervertebral disc degeneration of spinal instability. Here, we report that the cilia of nucleus pulposus(NP) cells mediate mechanotransduction to maintain anabolic activity in the discs. We found that mechanical stress promotes transport of parathyroid hormone 1 receptor(PTH1 R) to the cilia and enhances parathyroid hormone(PTH) signaling in NP cells. PTH induces transcription of integrin α_vβ_6 to activate the transforming growth factor(TGF)-β-connective tissue growth factor(CCN2)-matrix proteins signaling cascade. Intermittent injection of PTH(iPTH) effectively attenuates disc degeneration of aged mice by direct signaling through NP cells, specifically improving intervertebral disc height and volume by increasing levels of TGF-β activity, CCN2, and aggrecan. PTH1 R is expressed in both mouse and human NP cells. Importantly,knockout PTH1 R or cilia in the NP cells results in significant disc degeneration and blunts the effect of PTH on attenuation of aged discs. 420 Years Advances in Preparation of Potassium Salts from Potassic Rocks:A Review显示文摘Long-term research on key techniques of clean utilization of potassic rocks from over twenty localities has been performed to settle the shortage of soluble potassium resources in China. The results show that K-feldspar as the principal mineral enriched in potassium could be decomposed in the media of Ca(OH)_2, NaOH, KOH-H_2O solution via hydrothermal treatment, into tobermorite, hydroxylcancrinite, and kalsilite respectively. By further processing, these compounds are feasible for being as slow-release carrier of potassium nitrate, extracting alumina, and preparing farm-oriented fertilizers of potassium sulphate and nitrate. Correspondingly, the filtrate is KOH,(Na, K)_2SiO_3, and K_2SiO_3 solution, from which potassium carbonate, sulphate, nitrate, and phosphate could be easily fabricated. As NaO H and KOH are recycled in the processing chains by causticizing sodium and/or potassium metasilicate solutions, the hydrothermal alkaline techniques as developed in this research have several advantages as lower consumption of disposable mineral resources and energy, maximized utilization of potassic mineral resources, as well as clean productions etc. Based on the approaches presented in this paper, the technical system of efficiently utilizing insoluble potassium resources has been established. 5Groundwater evapotranspiration under psammophilous vegetation covers in the Mu Us Sandy Land, northern China显示文摘Groundwater is a significant component of the hydrological cycle in arid and semi-arid areas. Its evapotranspiration is an important part of the water budget because many plants are groundwater-dependent. To restore the degraded ecosystems, the need is pressing to further our understanding of the groundwater evapotranspiration(ET_g) in arid and semi-arid areas. This study employed the White method to estimate ET_g at four sites in the Mu Us Sandy Land in northern China, and the four sites are covered by Salix psammophila(SP site), Artemisia ordosica(AO site), Poplar alba(PA site), and Carex enervis(CE site), respectively. The depth of groundwater table and the duration of drainage were taken into account in calculating the specific yield(S_y) to improve the accuracy of the ET_g estimats. Our results showed that from late May to early November 2013 the ET_g were 361.87(SP site), 372.53(AO site), 597.86(PA site) and 700.76 mm(CE site), respectively. The estimated ET_g rate was also species-dependent and the descending order of the ET_g rate for the four vegetation was: C. enervis, P. alba, A. ordosica, and S. psammophila. In addition, the depth of groundwater table has an obvious effect on the ET_g rate and the effect varied with the vegetation types. 6Microglia modulation with 1070-nm light attenuates Aβ burden and cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease mouse model显示文摘Photobiomodulation,by utilizing low-power light in the visible and near-infrared spectra to trigger biological responses in cells and tissues,has been considered as a possible therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease(AD),while its specific mechanisms have remained elusive.Here,we demonstrate that cognitive and memory impairment in an AD mouse model can be ameliorated by 1070-nm light via reducing cerebralβ-amyloid(Aβ)burden,the hallmark of AD.The glial cells,including microglia and astrocytes,play important roles in Aβclearance.Our results show that 1070-nm light pulsed at 10 Hz triggers microglia rather than astrocyte responses in AD mice.The 1070-nm lightinduced microglia responses with alteration in morphology and increased colocalization with Aβare sufficient to reduce Aβload in AD mice.Moreover,1070-nm light pulsed at 10 Hz can reduce perivascular microglia and promote angiogenesis to further enhance Aβclearance.Our study confirms the important roles of microglia and cerebral vessels in the use of 1070-nm light for the treatment of AD mice and provides a framework for developing a novel therapeutic approach for AD.Lechan Tao Qi Liu Fuli Zhang Yuting Fu Xi Zhu Xiaofu Weng Hongbin Han Yong Huang Yuanzhen Suo Liang Chen Xiaoling Gao Xunbin Wei 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,10:4
7Effect of river plume on phytoplankton community structure in Zhujiang River estuary显示文摘To examine the phytoplankton assemblages and the effect of diluted waters on them,a research cruise was conducted from July 19 to August 7,2015 in the Zhujiang(Pearl)River estuary in the northern South China Sea(21°N–23.5°N,111°E–117°E).Samples were collected from 65 stations including one for time-series sampling.A total of 212 phytoplankton taxa were identified from 61 genera belonging to 4 phyla.Among them,122 species identified from 42 genera of Bacillariophyta and 83 species from 15 genera of Pyrrophyta.Chain-forming diatoms dominated the phytoplankton community where Pseudonitzschia delicatissima,Guinardia striata,Thalassionema nitzschioides,and P.pungens comprised about 52%of the total abundance.However,higher cell abundances concentrated on both sides of the estuary,because of low salinity and high nutrients brought by diluted water.In addition,Canonical Correspondence Analysis revealed that salinity and dissolved inorganic nitrogen shaped the species composition in the study area.Furthermore,the Jaccard similarity index showed prevailing high similarity in the distribution of species in low-salinity diluted waters,and the Bray-Curtis similarity depicted distinguished grouping for phytoplankton assemblages along the salinity gradient.However,phytoplankton diel vertical cycles showed maximum abundance occurred at 2:00 am,which was mainly contributed by benthic phytoplankton species Pseudo-nitzschia spp.and T.nitzschioides.Qi ZHONG Bing XUE Md Abu NOMAN Yuqiu WEI Haijiao LIU Hongbin LIU Liping ZHENG Hongmei JING Jun SUN 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,2:2
8Discrete twinning dynamics and size-dependent dislocation-to twin transition in body-centred cubic tungsten显示文摘Body-centred cubic(BCC) metals are known to have unstable intrinsic stacking faults and high resistance to deformation twinning, which can strongly influence their twinning behaviour. Though twinning mechanisms of BCC metals have been investigated for more than 60 years, the atomistic level dynamics of twinning remains under debate, especially regarding its impact on competition between twinning and slip. Here, we investigate the atomistic level dynamics of twinning in BCC tungsten(W) nanowires using in situ nanomechanical testing. Quantitative experimental studies directly visualize that deformation twins in W nanowires have a minimum size of six-layers and grow in increments of approximately three-layers at a time, in contrast to the layer-by-layer growth of deformation twins in face-centred cubic metals. These unique twinning dynamics induces a strong competition with ordinary dislocation slip,as exhibited by a size-dependent dislocation-to-twin transition in W nanowires, with a transition size of ~40 nm. 10Massage treatment of chronic persistent pediatric asthma显示文摘Objective:We observed the clinical effect of massage in treating chronic persistent pediatric asthma and the changes in expression of TLR1,TLR2,and TLR4 on macrophages.Methods:One hundred sixty pediatric patients with persistent chronic asthma were col-lected,and divided into treatment and control groups of 80 each in strict accordance with the principle of random allocation.The patients in the control group received general nebulizer therapy,and the patients in the treatment group received infantile massage.Both groups of patients were observed for 3 months with respect to the following indicators:the frequency of asthmatic attacks;the frequency of respiratory tract infections(RTIs);C-ACT rating;and the PEF%of peripheral blood(PB)before and after treatment to detect macrophage TLR1,TLR2,and TLR4.Results:After treatment,the frequency of asthmatic attacks,frequency of RTIs,C-ACT rat-ing,and the PEF%and macrophage TLR1,TLR2,and TLR4 expression of fluorescence intensity in the treatment group showed a statistically significant increase when compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Pediatric massage can improve the clinical symptoms of pediatric asthma by up-regulating the expression of macrophage TLR1,TLR2,and TLR4.Fuling Tian Qi Li Jianmei Cui Shuxiang Ma Hongbin Wang Xueqing Li 2014Family Medicine and Community Health2014,2,2:2
11Service Function Chain in Small Satellite-Based Software Defined Satellite Networks显示文摘Software Defined Satellite Networks(SDSN) are proposed to solve the problems in traditional satellite networks, such as time-consuming configuration and inflexible traffic scheduling. The emerging application of small satellite and research of SDSN make it possible for satellite networks to provide flexible network services. Service Function Chain(SFC) can satisfy this need. In this paper, we are motivated to investigate applying SFC in the small satellite-based SDSN for service delivery. We introduce the structure of the multi-layer constellation-based SDSN. Then, we describe two deployment patterns of SFC in SDSN, the Multi-Domain(MD) pattern and the Satellite Formation(SF) pattern. We propose two algorithms, SFP-MD, and SFP-SF, to calculate the Service Function Path(SFP). We implement the algorithms and conduct contrast experiments in our prototype. 17CD97 negatively regulates the innate immune response against RNA viruses by promoting RNF125-mediated RIG-I degradation显示文摘The G protein-coupled receptor ADGRE5(CD97)binds to various metabolites that play crucial regulatory roles in metabolism.However,its function in the antiviral innate immune response remains to be determined.In this study,we report that CD97 inhibits virus-induced type-I interferon(IFN-I)release and enhances RNA virus replication in cells and mice.CD97 was identified as a new negative regulator of the innate immune receptor RIG-I,and RIG-1 degradation led to the suppression of the IFN-I signaling pathway.Furthermore,overexpression of CD97 promoted the ubiquitination of RIG-I,resulting in its degradation,but did not impact its mRNA expression.Mechanistically,CD97 upregulates RNF125 expression to induce RNF125-mediated RIG-I degradation via K48-linked ubiquitination at Lys181 after RNA virus infection.Most importantly,CD97-deficient mice are more resistant than wild-type mice to RNA virus infection.We also found that sanguinarine-mediated inhibition of CD97 effectively blocks VSV and SARS-CoV-2 replication.These findings elucidate a previously unknown mechanism through which CD97 negatively regulates RIG-I in the antiviral innate immune response and provide a molecular basis for the development of new therapeutic strategies and the design of targeted antiviral agents.Huasong Chang Peili Hou Xuefeng Wang Aibiao Xiang Hao Wu Wenjing Qi Rukun Yang Xue Wang Xingyu Li Wenqi He Guimin Zhao Weiyang Sun Tiecheng Wang Daniel Chang He Hongmei Wang Yuwei Gao Hongbin He 2023Cellular & Molecular Immunology2023,20,12:0

19Redistribution process of precipitation in ecological restoration activity of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica in Mu Us Sandy Land,China显示文摘Precipitation is the most important water resource in semi-arid regions of China.The redistribution of precipitation among atmospheric water,soil water and groundwater are related to the land surface afforested ecological system.The study took widely replanted Pinus sylvestris var.Mongolica(PSM)in Mu Us Sandy Land(MUSL)as a research object and monitored precipitation,soil moisture,sap flow,and deep soil recharge(DSR)to find out moisture distribution in shallow soil layers.Results showed that the restoration process of PSM in MUSL changed the distribution of precipitation,with part of it infltrating downward as DsR and part of it being stored in the shallow soil.Consequently,evapotranspiration increased and DsR significantly decreased,resulting in up to 466.9 mm of precipitation returning to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration in 2016.Vegetation increased soil water storage(SwS)capacity,with maximum SWS in PSM plot and bare sandy land(BSL)being 260 mm and 197 mm per unit horizontal area,respectively in 2016.DSR decreased from 54%of precipitation in the BSL plot to 0.2%of precipitation in the PSM plot in 2016.A great portion of infiltrated water was stored in the PSM ecosystem,resulting in a time lag of infiltration to reach the deep soil layer,and the infiltration rate in the BSL plot was 11 times of that in the PSM plot.SWS decreased 16 mm and 7.6 mm per unit horizontal area over a one-year period(from March to October,non-freezing time)in 2017 and 2019,respectively.The PSM annual sap flow was maintained at a relatively constant level of 154 mm/yr.Through in-situ measurement and comparative analysis of the precipitation redistribution of the BSL plot and the PSM plot,we find that PSM can significantly reduce the shallow soil water storage and DSR.However,substantial reduction of shallow soil water storage and DsR is detrimental for the long-term development of PSM forest.Therefore,it is necessary to reduce PSM density to cut the water consumption by PSM per unit area,thus to augment the shallow SWS and DSR,which will be beneficial for the PSM to survive under extreme drought conditions in the future.This study helps us understand the role of precipitationinduced groundwater recharge in the process of vegetation restoration in semi-arid regions and explains thepossiblecauses of PSM forest degradation.Yiben Cheng Hongbin Zhan Wenbin Yang Wei Feng Qi Lu Yunqi Wang Qunou Jiang Bin Wang Mingchang Shi Tao Wang Zhiming Xin Ruifang Hao 2023International Soil and Water Conservation Research2023,11,3:0
20Dissecting the contributions of organic nitrogen aerosols to global atmospheric nitrogen deposition and implications for ecosystems显示文摘Atmospheric deposition of particulate organic nitrogen(ON_(p))is a significant process in the global nitrogen cycle and may be pivotally important for N-limited ecosystems.However,past models largely overlo oked the spatial and chemical inhomogeneity of atmospheric ON_(p)and were thus deficient in assessing global ON_(p)impacts.We constructed a comprehensive global model of atmospheric gaseous and particulate organic nitrogen(ON),including the latest knowledge on emissions and secondary formations.Using this model,we simulated global atmospheric ON_(p)abundances consistent with observations.Our estimated global atmospheric ON deposition was 26 Tg N yr^(-1),predominantly in the form of ON_(p)(23 Tg N yr^(-1))and mostly from wildfires(37%),oceans(22%)and aqueous productions(17%).Globally,ON_(p)contributed as much as 40%to 80%of the total N deposition downwind of biomass-burning regions.Atmospheric ON_(p)deposition thus constituted the dominant external N supply to the N-limited boreal forests,tundras and the Arctic Ocean,and its importance maybe amplified in a future warming climate.Yumin Li Tzung-May Fu Jian Zhen Yu Xu Yu Qi Chen Ruqian Miao Yang Zhou Aoxing Zhang Jianhuai Ye Xin Yang Shu Tao Hongbin Liu Weiqi Yao 2023National Science Review2023,10,12:0
