| 2 | Sulfur-containing amino acid methionine as the precursor of volatile organic sulfur compounds in algea-induced black bloom显示文摘After the application of methionine, a progressive and significant increase occurred in five volatile organic sulfur compounds (VOSCs): methanethiol (MeSH), dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS) and dimethyl tetrasulfide (DMTeS). Even in the untreated control without a methionine addition, methionine and its catabolites (VOSCs, mainly DMDS) were found in considerable amounts that were high enough to account for the water's offensive odor. However, blackening only occurred in two methionine-amended treatments. The VOSCs production was observed to precede black color development, and the reaching of a peak value for total VOSCs was often followed by water blackening. The presence of glucose stimulated the degradation of methionine while postponing the occurrence of the black color and inhibiting the production of VOSCs. In addition, DMDS was found to be the most abundant species produced after the addition of methionine alone, and DMTeS appeared to be the most important compound produced after the addition of methionine+glucose. These results suggest that methionine acted as an important precursor of the VOSCs in lakes suffering from algea-induced black bloom. | 4 | Removal of total cyanide in coking wastewater during a coagulation process: Significance of organic polymers显示文摘Whether a cationic organic polymer can remove more total cyanide(TCN) than a non-ionic organic polymer during the same flocculation system has not been reported previously. In this study, the effects of organic polymers with different charge density on the removal mechanisms of TCN in coking wastewater are investigated by polyferric sulfate(PFS) with a cationic organic polymer(PFS-C) or a non-ionic polymer(PFS-N). The coagulation experiments results show that residual concentrations of TCN(Fe(CN)3-6) after PFS-C flocculation(TCN < 0.2 mg/L) are much lower than that after PFS-N precipitation. This can be attributed to the different TCN removal mechanisms of the individual organic polymers. To investigate the roles of organic polymers, physical and structural characteristics of the flocs are analyzed by FT-IR, XPS, TEM and XRD. Owing to the presence of N+in PFS-C, Fe(CN)3-6 and negative flocs(Fe(CN)3-6adsorbed on ferric hydroxides) can be removed via charge neutralization and electrostatic patch flocculation by the cationic organic polymer. | 8 | Altered Neuronal Activity in the Central Nucleus of the Amygdala Induced by Restraint Water-Immersion Stress in Rats显示文摘Restraint water-immersion stress(RWIS), a compound stress model, has been widely used to induce acute gastric ulceration in rats. A wealth of evidence suggests that the central nucleus of the amygdala(CEA) is a focal region for mediating the biological response to stress. Different stressors induce distinct alterations of neuronal activity in the CEA; however, few studies have reported the characteristics of CEA neuronal activity induced by RWIS. Therefore, we explored this issue using immunohistochemistry and in vivo extracellular single-unit recording. Our results showed that RWIS and restraint stress(RS) differentially changed the c-Fos expression and firing properties of neurons in the medial CEA. In addition,RWIS, but not RS, induced the activation of corticotropinreleasing hormone neurons in the CEA. | 9 | Effect of lit-moxa stimulation of Guanyuan(CV 4) acupoint on levels of lactic acid and super-oxide dismutase in skeletal muscle of rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of lit-moxa stimulating acupoint Guanyuan(CV 4) on lactic acid and super-oxide dismutase(SOD) in skeletal muscle after exercise exhaustion.METHODS:Twenty-eight adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal control group,exhausted control group,exercise group and moxibustion group using exercise training and mild heating with lit-moxa stick as treatment methods.The exhausted control group,moxibustion group and exercise group received an exhaustive swimming after 20 days of intervention.Swimming exhausted times were recorded.Lactic acid and SOD concentration in soleus muscle were detected and compared between every two groups.RESULTS:The swimming exhausted times of the moxibustion group and the exercise group were significantly increased compare to the exhausted control group(P < 0.05).The lactic acid of the exhausted control group was significantly increased comparing with the normal control group(P <0.05),and the lactic acid of the moxibustion group and the exercise group were significantly lower than that of the exhausted control group(P < 0.05).The SOD level of the exhausted control group was significantly decreased comparing with the normal control group(P < 0.05),and the SOD level of the moxibustion group and the exercise group were significantly higher than that of the exhausted control group(both,P < 0.05).There was no statistical difference between the moxibustion group and the exercise group.CONCLUSION:With lit moxa stick,heat stimulating acupoint of Guanyuan(CV 4) decreased the levels of lactic acid and SOD in rat's skeletal muscle. | Mo Jie Wu Lili Sun Zhifang Wang Hongbin Ding Na He Long Zhang Lufen Liu Tonghua Li Xiaohong | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,2: | 6 |

| 11 | Removal of Cd^(2+) from water by Friedel's salt (FS:3CaO·A1_2O_3 ·CaCl_2 ·10H_2O): Sorption characteristics and mechanisms显示文摘The development of low-cost and efficient new mineral adsorbents has been a hot topic in recent years. In this study, Friedel's salt (FS:3CaO·A12O3 ·CaCl2 ·10H2O), a hexagonal layered inorganic absorbent, was synthesized to remove Cd2+ from water. The adsorption process was simulated by Langmuir and Freundlich models. The adsorption mechanism was further analyzed with TEM, XRD, FT-IR analysis and monitoring of metal cations released and solution pH variation. The results indicated the adsorbent FS had an outstanding ability for Cd(Ⅱ) adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity of the FS for Cd(Ⅱ) removal can reach up to 671.14 mg/g. The nearly equal numbers of Cd2+ adsorbed and Ca2+ released demonstrated that ion-exchange (both surface and inner) of the FS for Cd(Ⅱ) played an important role during the adsorption process. Furthermore, the surface of the FS after adsorption was microscopically disintegrated while the inner lamellar structure was almost unchanged. The behavior of Cd(Ⅱ) adsorption by FS was significantly affected by surface reactions. The mechanisms of Cd2+ adsorption by the FS mainly included surface complexation and surface precipitation. In the present study, the adsorption process was fitted better by the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9999) than the Freundlich isotherm model (R2 = 0.8122). | 12 | RRx-001 ameliorates inflammatory diseases by acting as a potent covalent NLRP3 inhibitor显示文摘The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in innate immune-mediated inflammation and contributes to the pathogenesis of multiple autoinflammatory,metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases,but medications targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome are not available for clinical use.RRx-001 is a well-tolerated anticancer agent currently being investigated in phase III clinical trials,but its effects on inflammatory diseases are not known.Here,we show that RRx-001 is a highly selective and potent NLRP3 inhibitor that has strong beneficial effects on NLRP3-driven inflammatory diseases.RRx-001 inhibits the activation of the canonical,noncanonical,and alternative NLRP3 inflammasomes but not the AIM2,NLRC4 or Pyrin inflammasomes.Mechanistically,RRx-001 covalently binds to cysteine 409 of NLRP3 via its bromoacetyl group and therefore blocks the NLRP3-NEK7 interaction,which is critical for the assembly and activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome.More importantly,RRx-001 treatment attenuates the symptoms of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced systemic inflammation,dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)in mice.Thus,our study identifies RRx-001 as a new potential therapeutic agent for NLRP3-driven diseases. | Yun Chen Hongbin He Bolong Lin Yun Chen Xianming Deng Wei Jiang Rongbin Zhou | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,6: | 5 |

| 18 | Toward rational design of amines for CO_2 capture: Substituent effect on kinetic process for the reaction of monoethanolamine with CO_2显示文摘Amines have been considered as promising candidates for post-combustion CO2 capture. A mechanistic understanding for the chemical processes involved in the capture and release of CO2 is important for the rational design of amines. In this study, the structural effects of amines on the kinetic competition among three typical products(carbamates, carbamic acids and bicarbonate) from amines + CO2 were investigated, in contrast to previous thermodynamic studies to tune the reaction of amines with CO2 based on desirable reaction enthalpy and reaction stoichiometry. We used a quantum chemical method to calculate the activation energies(Ea) for the reactions of a range of substituted monoethanolamines with CO2 covering three pathways to the three products. The results indicate that the formation of carbamates is the most favorable, among the three considered products. In addition, we found that the Eavalues for all pathways linearly correlate with pK aof amines, and more importantly, the kinetic competition between carbamate and bicarbonate absorption pathways varies with p Kaof the amines, i.e. stronger basicity results in less difference in Ea. | 19 | Distinct synergetic effects in the ozone enhanced photocatalytic degradation of phenol and oxalic acid with Fe^(3+)/TiO_2 catalyst显示文摘In this work, phenol and oxalic acid(OA) degradation in an ozone and photocatalysis integrated process was intensively conducted with Fe^(3+)/TiO_2 catalyst. The ferrioxalate complex formed between Fe^(3+) and oxalate accelerated the removal of OA in the ozonation, photolysis and photocatalytic ozonation process, for its high reactivity with ozone and UV. Phenol was degraded in ozonation and photolysis with limited TOC removal rates, but much higher TOC removal was achieved in photocatalytic ozonation due to the generation of ·OH. The sequence of UV light and ozone in the sequential process also influences the TOC removal, and ozone is very powerful to oxidize intermediates catechol and hydroquinone to maleic acid. Fenton or photo-Fenton reactions only played a small part in Fe^(3+)/TiO_2catalyzed processes, because Fe^(3+) was greatly reduced but not regenerated in many cases.The synergetic effect was found to be highly related with the property of the target pollutants. | 20 | ia-PNCC: Noise Processing Method for Underwater Target Recognition Convolutional Neural Network显示文摘Underwater target recognition is a key technology for underwater acoustic countermeasure.How to classify and recognize underwater targets according to the noise information of underwater targets has been a hot topic in the field of underwater acoustic signals.In this paper,the deep learning model is applied to underwater target recognition.Improved anti-noise Power-Normalized Cepstral Coefficients(ia-PNCC)is proposed,based on PNCC applied to underwater noises.Multitaper and normalized Gammatone filter banks are applied to improve the anti-noise capacity.The method is combined with a convolutional neural network in order to recognize the underwater target.Experiment results show that the acoustic feature presented by ia-PNCC has lower noise and are wellsuited to underwater target recognition using a convolutional neural network.Compared with the combination of convolutional neural network with single acoustic feature,such as MFCC(Mel-scale Frequency Cepstral Coefficients)or LPCC(Linear Prediction Cepstral Coefficients),the combination of the ia-PNCC with a convolutional neural network offers better accuracy for underwater target recognition. | Nianbin Wang Ming He Jianguo Sun Hongbin Wang Lianke Zhou Ci Chu Lei Chen | 2019 | Computers, Materials & Continua2019,,1: | 3 |
