| 2 | JAK/STAT signaling regulates tissue outgrowth and male germline stem cell fate in Drosophila显示文摘In multicellular organisms, biological activities are regulated by cell signaling. The various signal transduction path- ways regulate cell fate, proliferation, migration, and polarity. Miscoordination of the communicative signals will lead to disasters like cancer and other fatal diseases. The JAK/STAT signal transduction pathway is one of the pathways, which was first identified in vertebrates and is highly conserved throughout evolution. Studying the JAK/STAT signal transduc- tion pathway in Drosophila provides an excellent opportunity to understand the molecular mechanism of the cell regu- lation during development and tumor formation. | 3 | Novel degradation products of argatroban: Isolation, synthesis and extensive characterization using NMR and LC-PDA-MS/Q-TOF显示文摘Forced degradation study of argatroban under conditions of hydrolysis(neutral, acidic and alkaline), oxidation,photolysis and thermal stress, as suggested in the ICH Q1 A(R2), was accomplished. The drug showed significant degradation under hydrolysis(acidic, alkaline) and oxidation(peroxide stress) conditions. The drug remained stable under thermal and photolytic stress conditions. In total, seven novel degradation products(DP-1 to DP-7) were found under diverse conditions, which were not reported earlier. | 4 | Evidence based review of type 2 diabetes prevention and management in low and middle income countries显示文摘AIM:To identify the newest approaches to type 2diabetes(T2DM)prevention and control in the developingworld context.METHODS:We conducted a systematic review of published studies of diabetes prevention and control programs in low and middle-income countries,as defined by the World Bank.We searched Pub Med using Medical Subject Headings terms.Studies needed to satisfy four criteria:(1)Must be experimental;(2)Must include patients with T2DM or focusing on prevention of T2DM;(3)Must have a lifestyle intervention component;(4)Must be written in English;and(5)Must have measurable outcomes related to diabetes.RESULTS:A total of 66 studies from 20 developing countries were gathered with publication dates through September 2014.India contributed the largest number of trials(11/66).Of the total 66 studies reviewed,all but 3 studies reported evidence of favorable outcomes in the prevention and control of type 2 diabetes.The overwhelming majority of studies reported on diabetes management(56/66),and among these more than half were structured lifestyle education programs.The evidence suggests that lifestyle education led by allied health professionals(nurses,pharmacists)were as effective as those led by physicians or a team of clinicians.The remaining diabetes management interventions focused on diet or exercise,but the evidence to recommend one approach over another was weak.CONCLUSION:Large experimental diabetes prevention/control studies of dietary and exercise interventions are lacking particularly those that consider quality rather than quantity of carbohydrates and alternative exercise. | Aimee Afable Nidhi Shree Karingula | 2016 | World Journal of Diabetes2016,7,10: | 3 |
| 5 | DICER-like Proteins and Their Role in Plant-herbivore Interactions in Nicotiana attenuata显示文摘DICER-like (DCL) proteins produce small RNAs that silence genes involved in development and defenses against viruses and pathogens. Which DCLs participate in plant-herbivore interactions remains unstudied. We identified and stably silenced four distinct DCL genes by RNAi in Nicotiana attenuata (Torrey ex. Watson), a model for the study of plant-herbivore interactions. Silencing DCL1 expression was lethal. Manduca sexta larvae performed significantly better on ir-dcl3 and ir-dcl4 plants, but not on ir-dcl2 plants compared to wild type plants. Phytohormones, defense metabolites and microarray analyses revealed that when DCL3 and DCL4 were silenced separately, herbivore resistance traits were regulated in distinctly different ways. Crossing of the lines revealed complex interactions in the patterns of regulation. Single ir-dcl4 and double ir-dcl2 ir-dcl3 plants were impaired in JA accumulation, while JA- Ile was increased in ir-dcl3 plants. Ir-dcl3 and ir-dcl4 plants were impaired in nicotine accumulation; silencing DCL2 in combination with either DCL3 or DCL4 restored nicotine levels to those of WT. Trypsin proteinase inhibitor activity and transcripts were only silenced in ir-dcl3 plants.
