1Alcohol dehydrogenase: A potential new marker for diagnosis of intestinal ischemia using rat as a model显示文摘AIM: Intestinal ischemia (Ii) is an abdominal emergency due to blockade of the superior mesenteric artery resulting in 60-100% mortality if diagnosed late. Changes in several biochemical parameters such as D (-)-lactate, Creatinine kinase isoenzymes and lactate dehydrogenase suggested for early diagnosis, lack specificity and sensitivity. Therefore a biochemical parameter with greater sensitivity needs to be identified.METHODS: Wistar male rats were randomly assigned into two groups; control sham operated (n = 24) and ischemic test (n = 24) group. Superior mesenteric arterial occlusion was performed in the ischemic test group for 1 h. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) was estimated in blood from portal vein, right ventricle of heart, dorsal aorta (DA) and inferior vena cava (IVC). The Serum glutamic acid pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) was also estimated in blood from portal vein and right ventricle of heart.RESULTS: A significant increase (P<0.001) in the levels of ADH in both portal blood as well as heart blood of the test group (232.72±99.45 EU and 250.85±95.14 EU, respectively)as compared to the control group (46.39±21.69 EU and 65.38±30.55 EU, respectively) were observed. Similarly,increased levels of ADH were observed in blood samples withdrawn from DA and IVC in test animals (319.52±80.14EU and 363.90±120.68 EU, respectively) as compared to the control group (67.68±63.22 EU and 72.50±58.45 EU,respectively). However, in test animals there was significant increase in SGPT in portal blood (P = 0.054) without much increase in heart blood.CONCLUSION: Significant increase in the levels of ADH in portal and heart blood within 1 h of SMA occlusion without increase in SGPT in heart blood, suggests that the origin of ADH is from ischemic intestine and not from liver. Similarly, raised ADH levels were found in DA and IVC as well. IVC blood does represent peripheral blood sample. 2Euler-Euler CFD modeling of fluidized bed:Influence of specularity coefficient on hydrodynamic behavior显示文摘Euler-Euler two-fluid model is used to simulate the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flow in a bubbling fluidized bed with Geldert B particles where the solid property is calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow(KTGF).Johnson and Jackson wall boundary condition is used for the particle phase,and different amount of slip between particle and wall is given by varying the specularity coefficient(φ) from0 to 1.The simulated particle velocity,granular temperature and particle volume fraction are compared to investigate the effect of different wall boundary conditions on the hydrodynamic behavior.Some of the results are also compared with the available experimental data from the literature.It was found that the model predictions are sensitive to the specularity coefficient.The hydrodynamic behavior deviated significantly for φ = 0 and φ = 0.01 with maximum deviation found at φ = 0 i.e.free-slip condition.However,the overall bed height predicted by all the conditions is similar.Chanchal Loha Himadri Chattopadhyay Pradip K.Chatterjee 2013Particuology2013,11,6:7

4Effect of coefficient of restitution in Euler-Euler CFD simulation of fluidized-bed hydrodynamics显示文摘Collision between particles plays an important role in determining the hydrodynamic characteristics of gas-solid flow in a fluidized bed.In the present work,earlier work(Loha,Chattopadhyay.& Chatterjee,2013) was extended to study the effect of the elasticity of particle collision on the hydrodynamic behavior of a bubbling fluidized bed filled with 530-μm particles.The Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid model was used to simulate the hydrodynamics of the bubbling fluidized bed.where the solid-phase properties were calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow.To investigate the effect of the elasticity of particle collision,different values of the coefficient of restitution were applied in the simulation and their effects were studied in detail.Simulations were performed for two different solid-phase wall boundary conditions.No bubble formation was observed for perfectly elastic collision.The bubble formation started as soon as the coefficient of restitution was set below 1.0,and the space occupied by bubbles in the bed increased with a decrease in the coefficient of restitution.Simulation results were also compared with experimental data available in the literature,and good agreement was found for coefficients of restitution of 0.95 and 0.99.Chanchal Loha Himadri Chattopadhyay Pradip K.Chatterjee 2014Particuology2014,12,4:6

6Effect of pouring temperature on cooling slope casting of semi-solid Al-Si-Mg alloy显示文摘Present trend of semi-solid processing is directed towards rheocasting route which allows manufacturing of near-net-shape cast components directly from the prepared semi-solid slurry. Generation of globular equi-axed grains during solidification of rheocast components, compared to the columnar dendritic structure of conventional casting routes, facilitates the manufacturing of components with improved mechanical properties and structural integrity. In the present investigation, a cooling slope has been designed and indigenously fabricated to produce semi solid slurry of Al-Si-Mg (A356) alloy and successively cast in a metallic mould. The scope of the present work discusses about development of a numerical model to simulate the liquid metal flow through cooling slope using Eulerian two-phase flow approach and to investigate the effect of pouring temperature on cooling slope semi-solid slurry generation process. The two phases considered in the present model are liquid metal and air. Solid fraction evolution of the solidifying melt is tracked at different locations of the cooling slope, following Schiel s equation. The continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation are solved considering thin wall boundary condition approach. During solidification of the liquid metal, a modified temperature recovery scheme has been employed taking care of the latent heat release and change of fraction of liquid. 7A high methionine,low folate and vitamin B_6/B_(12) containing diet can be associated with memory loss by epigenetic silencing of netrin-1显示文摘Memory-epigenetics which is the loss of memory due to epigenetic modifications can be due to the silencing of genes involved in cognitive functions and this is the basis of the current study.We hypothesize that a diet containing high methionine and low vitamins can lead to memory impairment by increasing global DNA methylation and therefore,silencing the netrin-1 gene,which encodes the glycoprotein involved in neurogenesis,axonal guidance and maintenance of the synaptic plasticity.Wild type(C57 BL/6 J) mice were fed with a diet containing excess methionine(1.2%),low-folate(0.08 mg/kg),vitamin B_6(0.01 mg/kg),and B_(12)(10.4 mg/kg) for 6 weeks.Mice were examined weekly for the long-term memory function,using a passive avoidance test,which determined loss of fear-motivated long-term memory starting from the fourth week of diet.Similarly,an increase in brain %5-methyl cytosine was observed starting from the 4 th week of diet in mice.Mice fed with a high methionine,low folate and vitamins containing diet showed a decrease in netrin-1 protein expression and an increase in netrin-1 gene promotor methylation,as determined by methylation-sensitive restriction enzyme-polymerase chain reaction analysis.The increase in methylation of netrin-1 gene was validated by high-resolution melting and sequencing analysis.Furthermore,the association of netrin-1 with memory was established by administering netrin that considerably restored long-term fear motivated memory.Taken together,these results suggest that a diet rich in methionine and lacking in folate and vitamin B_6/B_(12) can induce defects in learning and memory.Furthermore,the data indicates that decrease in netrin-1 expression due to hyper-methylation of its gene can be associated with memory loss.The animal procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee,University of Louisville,USA(No.A3586-01) on February 2,2018.Anuradha Kalani Pankaj Chaturvedi Komal Kalani Pradip K.Kamat Poonam Chaturvedi Neetu Tyagi 2019Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,7:4
8Siliciclastic-carbonate mixing modes in the river-mouth bar palaeogeography of the Upper Cretaceous Garudamangalam Sandstone(Ariyalur, India)显示文摘Mixed siliciclastic-carbonate rocks constitute the Upper Cretaceous Garudamangalam Sandstone Formation, Ariyalur(India), and offer an opportunity to look into the broad spectrum of mixing of compositionally and genetically different components. The palaeogeographic reconstruction indicates that deposition in the nearshore zone differed strongly in energy and active processes operatives due to the presence of a shore-parallel river-mouth bar. The western wing of the Mississippi bird-foot delta is considered to be a present-day analogon. Facies analysis in combination with petrography clearly shows the variability in palaeoenvironmental characteristics, both biogenic and non-biogenic. It also indicates diagenetic uptake of carbonate that filled empty spaces and actively replaced original components. Chemical staining followed by limited application of cathodoluminescence and energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDAX) hint at intricacies in mixing arising from the compositional variations in the carbonate components. 11茶多酚减轻小鼠心肌缺血/再灌注损伤的机制显示文摘目的研究茶多酚对小鼠心肌缺血/再灌注损伤(MIRI)过程中炎性细胞因子与氧自由基的影响,探讨茶多酚减轻MIRI的机制。方法 30只雄性C57BL/6小鼠被随机分为3组:(1)对照组;(2)心肌缺血/再灌注模型组(MIRI组);(3)茶多酚组。以上三组小鼠分别于MIRI手术后2 h收获标本,分别测定小鼠血清白细胞介素6(IL-6)、肿瘤坏死因子(TNF-α)、髓过氧化物酶活性(MPO)、血清丙二醛(MDA)与超氧化物岐化酶(SOD)含量。结果茶多酚可显著降低小鼠血清IL-6、TNF-α、MPO水平(P<0.01),减少MDA含量(P<0.01)并提高SOD活性(P<0.01)。结论茶多酚可能通过减轻炎性细胞因子的聚集与浸润以及降低氧自由基的产生来减轻心肌缺血再灌注损伤。Pradip Adhikari 吕祥威 2014航空航天医学杂志2014,25,9:3

13Geochemical characteristics of Holocene sediments from Chuadanga district, Bangladesh: Implications for weathering, climate, redox conditions, provenance and tectonic setting显示文摘The present research deals with the geochemical characteristics of the Holocene sediments from Alamdanga area, Chuadanga district, Bangladesh. Main goals of the study are to delineate source rock characteristics, degree of chemical weathering and sorting processes and behavior of redox conditions during deposition of the sediments. Geochemical characteristics of the sediments show comparatively a wide variation in accordance with stratigraphy in their major element contents(e.g. Si O2 69.46–82.13, Al2O3 2.28–8.88 in wt%), reflecting the distinctive provenance and in part an unstable period in terms of tectonic activity. Geochemical classification of the sediments shows mostly sub-arkose with few sub-litharenites. Some major and trace elements display comprehensible correlation with Al2O3 confirming their possible hydraulic fractionation. The chemical index of alteration(CIA*), W* index, index of compositional variability(ICV), plagioclase index of alteration(PIA*) values and the ratio of Si O2/Al2O3, suggest low degrees of chemical weathering in the source areas as well as immature to moderately mature the sediments. The sediments suggest semi-arid climatic trends within oxic deltaic depositional conditions during the Holocene, at 3–12 ka. Whole rock geochemistry and discrimination diagrams demonstrate the continental signature derivatives, which might have been derived from the felsic to intermediate igneous rocks(granitic plutonic rocks) as well as from quartzose sedimentary/metamorphic provenance. These typical sources are present in a vast region of the Himalayan belt and catchment areas of Ganges.
