1The influence of microwave irradiation on rocks for microwaveassisted underground excavation显示文摘Demand is growing for explosive-free rock breakage systems for civil and mining engineering, and spaceindustry applications. This paper highlights the work being undertaken in the Geomechanics Laboratoryof McGill University to make a real application of microwave-assisted mechanical rock breakage to fullfacetunneling machines and drilling. Comprehensive laboratory tests investigated the effect of microwaveradiation on temperature profiles and strength reduction in hard rocks (norite, granite, and basalt)for a range of exposure times and microwave power levels. The heating rate on the surface of the rockspecimens linearly decreased with distance between the sample and the microwave antenna, regardlessof microwave power level and exposure time. Tensile and uniaxial compressive strengths were reducedwith increasing exposure time and power level. Scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) highlightedfracture development in treated basalt. It was concluded that the microwave power level has a strongpositive influence on the amount of heat damage induced to the rock surface. 2Adenoviral gene therapy in gastric cancer: A review显示文摘Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. With current therapeutic approaches the prognosis of gastric cancer is very poor, as gastric cancer accounts for the second most common cause of death in cancer related deaths. Gastric cancer like almost all other cancers has a molecular genetic basis which relies on disruption in normal cellular regulatory mechanisms regarding cell growth, apoptosis and cell division. Thus novel therapeutic approaches such as gene therapy promise to become the alternative choice of treatment in gastric cancer. In gene therapy, suicide genes, tumor suppressor genes and anti-angiogenesis genes among many others are introduced to cancer cells via vectors. Some of the vectors widely used in gene therapy are Adenoviral vectors. 3Fatty liver index vs waist circumference for predicting non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘AIM: To determine the discriminatory performance of fatty liver index(FLI) for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).METHODS: The data of 5052 subjects aged over 18 years were analyzed. FLI was calculated from body mass index, waist circumference(WC), triglyceride, and gamma glutamyl transferase data. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the association between FLI and NAFLD. The discriminatory performance of FLI in the diagnosis of NAFLD was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Area under the curves(AUCs) and related confidence intervals were estimated. Optimal cutoff points of FLI in the diagnosis of NAFLD were determined based on the maximum values of Youden's index.RESULTS: The mean age of men and women in the study population were 44.8 ± 16.8 and 43.78 ± 15.43, respectively(P = 0.0216). The prevalence of NAFLD was 40.1% in men and 44.2% in women(P < 0.0017). FLI was strongly associated with NAFLD, so that even a one unit increase in FLI increased the chance of developing NAFLD by 5.8%(OR = 1.058, 95%CI: 1.054-1.063, P < 0.0001). Although FLI showed good performance in the diagnosis of NAFLD(AUC = 0.8656(95%CI: 0.8548-0.8764), there was no significant difference with regards to WC(AUC = 0.8533, 95%CI: 0.8419-0.8646). The performance of FLI was not significantly different between men(AUC = 0.8648, 95%CI: 0.8505-0.8791) and women(AUC = 0.8682, 95%CI: 0.8513-0.8851). The highest performance with regards to age was related to the 18-39 age group(AUC = 0.8930, 95%CI: 0.8766-0.9093). 4Comment on “Chen et al., Fabrication and photovoltaic conversion enhancement...”,Electrochimica Acta,2014显示文摘In a recent article, Chen et al. [Electrochimica Acta, 2014, 130: 279] presented their fabrication and characterization results on a graphene/n-Si solar cell where the Au nanoparticles were inserted in graphene to increase its optical and electrical properties. The higher efficiency of the device was attributed to increased conductivity of graphene after doping with Au nanoparticles. However, the knowledge in the field of Schottky diode solar cells relates this to increased band bending at the junction. Also, to explain the instability behaviour, they concluded that the growth of silicon oxide on the Si surface or oxygen adsorption on the window layer resulted in the device performance increasing initially and decreasing in the end. However, this instability seems to be due to variation in series resistance reduced at the beginning because of slightly lowered Fermi level and increased at the end by the self-compensation by deep in-diffusion of Au nanoparticles into n-Si layer. 5Experimental evaluation of mechanically stabilized earth walls with recycled crumb rubbers显示文摘Traditional techniques for treatment of waste rubber, such as burning, generate some highly nondegradable synthetic materials that cause unrepairable environmental damages by releasing heavy metals, such as arsenic, chromium, lead, manganese and nickel. For this, scrap tires are used as lightweight alternative materials in many engineering applications, such as retaining wall backfilling. In the present study, 90 laboratory models were prepared to evaluate the stability of mechanically stabilized earth(MSE) walls with plate anchors. Then, the bearing capacity and horizontal displacements of the retaining walls were monitored by exerting a static loading to investigate the effects of adding different contents(5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt% and 20 wt%) of recycled crumb rubber(RCR) to the fill of a mechanically stabilized retaining wall with plate anchors. To visualize the critical slip surface of the wall, the particle image velocimetry(PIV) technique was employed. Results showed that the circular anchor plates almost continually provided a higher bearing capacity and wall stability than the square plates. Moreover, the backfill with 15 wt% RCR provided the maximum bearing capacity of the wall. Increasing the weight percentage of RCR to 20 wt% resulted in a significant reduction in horizontal displacement of the wall,which occurred due to the decrease in lateral earth pressure against the whole walls. 9Effects of humidity on shear behavior of bamboo显示文摘Bamboo is a naturally occurring biological composite, however its microstructure and hence its properties are very complex compared to the manmade composites. Due to optimization, it can be assumed that the variation in properties along the thickness of the culm be a smooth transition for better bonding strength between layers and to prevent non uniformity in stress concentration. As a consequence,biological structures are complicated and functionally graded. Hence, a realistic model that can capture the mechanical performance of bamboo is valuable in future design of robust multifunctional composites.This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical studies on the torsional(shear) properties of bamboo. The hierarchical and multi-scale structure of bamboo and the distribution of micro-scale fibers are revealed via laser scanning and atomic force microscopy. This information was incorporated into a finite element model to analyze the mechanical behavior of bamboo under torsion and to estimate the shear modulus of bamboo along the fibers. Moreover, the effects of humidity and therefore water content on the mechanical properties of bamboo were evaluated by performing torsion tests on samples maintained in environments with different humidities. Increasing the humidity does not cause a drop in the shear modulus, however, a jump in the shear modulus did occur at around 60% humidity. Results of this study indicate that the highest strength values in samples occurred in environments with humidity levels between 60% and 80% and undergo a significant drop after that. 10多重实时荧光串联PCR技术高通量检测生蚝中9种致病菌显示文摘大肠埃希氏菌、金黄色葡萄球菌、沙门氏菌、溶藻弧菌、副溶血弧菌、铜绿假单胞菌、产气荚膜梭菌、单增李斯特菌和创伤弧菌是贝类食品中常见的食源性致病菌。该文通过设计特异性引物,优化反应参数以建立多重实时荧光串联PCR(multiplexed tandem PCR,MT-PCR)方法,进一步评估方法的特异性和灵敏度,并用于检测生蚝样品。优化后的MT-PCR方法与常规qPCR具有相同定量能力,可同时检测上述9种致病菌。在对混合菌液的检测中,MT-PCR方法的检测灵敏度最低可达10~2 CFU/mL,且此法对其中6种致病菌的检测灵敏度高于qPCR。应用该技术检测人工染菌的生蚝样品,检测灵敏度为10~2~10~3CFU/g。该研究建立的MT-PCR方法可实现高通量、快速准确地检测生蚝中这9种常见的食源性致病菌,对保障食品安全和评估食源性致病菌污染风险具有重要意义。麻春阳 高世珏 蒋丽婷 杨础华 TANUSHREE B GUPTA NIMA AZARAKHSH 吴希阳 2022食品与发酵工业2022,48,21:3
11A noise cross PSD estimator for dual-microphone speech enhancement based on minimum statistics显示文摘Some two-microphone noise reduction techniques that work in the frequency domain exploit coherence function between two noisy signals. They have shown good results when noise signals on two sensors are uncorrelated, but their per-formance decreases with correlated noises. Coherence based methods can be improved when the cross power spectral density (CPSD) of correlated noise signals is available. In this paper, we propose a new method for estimation of the CPSD of the noise, which is based on the minimum tracking technique. 15Comparison of accuracy and computational performance between the machine learning algorithms for rate of penetration in directional drilling well显示文摘Oil and gas reservoirs are of the main assets of countries possessing them.Production from these reservoirs is one of the main concerns of engineers,which can be achieved by drilling oil and gas reservoirs.Construction of hydrocarbon wells is one of the most expensive operations in the oil industry.One of the most important parameters affecting drilling cost is the rate of penetration(ROP).This paper predicts the rate of penetration using artificial intelligence and hybrid models on Kaboud oil field well#7 in the directional stage.In this study,different models were constructed through various approaches based on 1878 dataset obtained from drilling operation in the well#7.Then,the accuracy of the constructed models was compared with each other.It was found that the MLP-ABC algorithm predicts the rate of penetration more accurately,by far,as compared with other methods.The MLP-ABC algorithm achieves impressive ROP prediction accuracy(RMSE=0.007211 m/h;AAPD=0.1871%;R^(2)=1.000 for the testing subset).Consequently,it can be concluded that this method is applicable to predict the drilling rate in that oilfield.Omid Hazbeh Saeed Khezerloo-ye Aghdam Hamzeh Ghorbani Nima Mohamadian Mehdi Ahmadi Alvar Jamshid Moghadasi 2021Petroleum Research2021,6,3:2

18Investigating a potential reservoir landslide and suggesting its treatment using limit-equilibrium and numerical methods显示文摘A reservoir landslide not only reduces the water storage capacity, but also causes extensive damages to the dam body, power/water transmission lines, roads, and other infrastructures. The Latian Dam, located 35 km north east of Tehran(Iran), is one of the cases which has encountered serious problems with instability of its rock abutments. This paper addresses the stability analysis of the right abutment of the Latian Dam using limit equilibrium and numerical methods. Geomechanical characteristics of the rock abutment were first estimated based on engineering classification of the rock mass. Different search methods were examined for locating the critical circular/non-circular slip surface in conjunction with the general limit equilibrium method. The effect of variability of rock mass properties, water table, and earthquake load on the factor of safety(FS) and probability of failure(PF) was studied. In the event of rapid drawdown in the reservoir, the limit equilibrium analysis calculated FS=1.067 and PF=21.1%, and the numerical analysis returned FS=1.01. The results of the analyses suggest that the right abutment of the Latian Dam is prone to slide and needs treatment. 19Unconfined compressive strength prediction of soils stabilized using artificial neural networks and support vector machines显示文摘This study aims to improve the unconfined compressive strength of soils using additives as well as by predicting the strength behavior of stabilized soils using two artificial-intelligence-based models.The soils used in this study are stabilized using various combinations of cement,lime,and rice husk ash.To predict the results of unconfined compressive strength tests conducted on soils,a comprehensive laboratory dataset comprising 137 soil specimens treated with different combinations of cement,lime,and rice husk ash is used.Two artificial-intelligence-based models including artificial neural networks and support vector machines are used comparatively to predict the strength characteristics of soils treated with cement,lime,and rice husk ash under different conditions.The suggested models predicted the unconfined compressive strength of soils accurately and can be introduced as reliable predictive models in geotechnical engineering.This study demonstrates the better performance of support vector machines in predicting the strength of the investigated soils compared with artificial neural networks.The type of kernel function used in support vector machine models contributed positively to the performance of the proposed models.Moreover,based on sensitivity analysis results,it is discovered that cement and lime contents impose more prominent effects on the unconfined compressive strength values of the investigated soils compared with the other parameters.Alireza TABARSA Nima LATIFI Abdolreza OSOULI Younes BAGHERI 2021Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2021,15,2:2
20Teaching solid mechanics to artificial intelligence—a fast solver for heterogeneous materials显示文摘We propose a deep neural network(DNN)as a fast surrogate model for local stress calculations in inhomogeneous non-linear materials.We show that the DNN predicts the local stresses with 3.8%mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)for the case of heterogeneous elastic media and a mechanical contrast of up to factor of 1.5 among neighboring domains,while performing 103 times faster than spectral solvers.The DNN model proves suited for reproducing the stress distribution in geometries different from those used for training.In the case of elasto-plastic materials with up to 4 times mechanical contrast in yield stress among adjacent regions,the trained model simulates the micromechanics with a MAPE of 6.4%in one single forward evaluation of the network,without any iteration.The results reveal an efficient approach to solve non-linear mechanical problems,with an acceleration up to a factor of 8300 for elastic-plastic materials compared to typical solvers.Jaber Rezaei Mianroodi Nima H.Siboni Dierk Raabe 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:2
