1Artificial and bioartificial liver support:A review of perfusion treatment for hepatic failure patients显示文摘Liver transplantation and blood purification therapy,including plasmapheresis,hemodiafiltration,and bioartificial liver support,are the available treatments for patients with severe hepatic failure.Bioartificial liver support,in which living liver tissue is used to support hepatic function,has been anticipated as an effective treatment for hepatic failure.The two mainstream systems developed for bioartificial liver support are extracorporeal whole liver perfusion(ECLP)and bioreactor systems.Comparing various types of bioartificial liver in view of function,safety,and operability,we concluded that the best efficacy can be provided by the ECLP system.Moreover,in our subsequent experiments comparing ECLP and apheresis therapy,ECLP offers more ammonia metabolism than HD and HF.In addition,ECLP can compensate amino acid imbalance and can secret bile.A controversial point with ECLP is the procedure is labor intensive,resulting in high costs.However,ECLP has the potential to reduce elevated serum ammonia levels of hepatic coma patients in a short duration.When these problems are solved,bioartificial liver support,especially ECLP,can be adopted as an option in ordinary clinical therapy to treat patients with hepatic failure.Katsutoshi Naruse Masatoshi Makuuchi 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,10:23
2Using sorbents to control heavy metals and particulate matter emission during solid fuel combustion显示文摘Some of the heavy metals in coal and wastes vaporize during combustion, concentrate in fine particulates, and emit with the flue gas into the atmosphere, to produce adverse effect on environment and health. This study first investigates the fate of the heavy metal species, especially Pb, Cd and Cr, known as semi-volatile, in various flue gases, especially in the presence of HCl and SO2, by chemical equilibrium calculation, in which, Si and Ca were proposed as base sorbent materials to capture Pb, Cd and Cr. Then Si-and Ca-based compounds as well as waste materials used as sorbents were optimized to capture the heavy metals. Finally, the optimal sorbent was tested in actual burning of dried sewage sludge as solid fuel, to evaluate the effectiveness of the sorbent. Calculated results show that Cl increases the volatility of most heavy metals, while SO2 enhances formation of condensed phases. Among the sorbents tested, kaolin appears most efficient to capture Pb and Cd. For sludge combustion with kaolin addition, both Pb and Cd were shifted from sub-micron to macro-sized particles, and accompanied by considerable decrease of 0.1 m particles.Hong Yao Ichiro Naruse 2009Particuology2009,7,6:18
3Hepatitis B virus reactivation with a rituximab-containing regimen显示文摘Rituximab is currently used not only in the treatment of B-cell lymphoma but also for various other diseases, including autoimmune diseases, post-transplant graft vs host disease, and rejection following kidney transplants. Due to rituximab's widespread use, great progress has been made regarding research into complications that arise from its use, one of the most serious being the reactivation of hepatitis B virus(HBV), and efforts continue to establish guidelines for preventive treatment against this occurrence. 5The susceptibility of T5-TG12 of theCFTR gene in chronic bronchitis occurrence in a Chinese population in Jiangsu province,China显示文摘Mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR) gene have been implicated in the onset of cystic fibrosis and other clinical respiratory disorders.In the present study,we investigated the role of CFTR variations,poly-T,TG-repeats,and M470V in susceptibility to bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis in a Chinese population in Jiangsu province,China.A total of 72 bronchial asthma patients,68 chronic bronchitis patients,and 117 healthy subjects were included in this study.The Tn-TGm haplotype was sequenced and the CFTR variant M470V was detected using restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP).We found that the frequency of T5-TG12-V470 in chronic bronchitis patients was 0.07%,which was notably higher than that in healthy subjects(0.01%) and bronchial asthma patients(0.04%).Thus,the presence of the T5-TG12 haplotype of the CFTR gene is likely to play a role in the development and progression of respiratory conditions,such as chronic bronchitis.Ping Wang Satoru Naruse Hong Yin Zhongfang Yu Tianqu Zhuang Wei Ding Yanmin Wu Muxin Wei 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,6:4

14Possible key residues that determine left gastric artery blood flow response to PACAP in dogs显示文摘AIM:To determine the effect of pituitary adenylate cy-clase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) on left gastric artery (LGA) flow and to unveil the structural or functional important sites that may be critical for discrimination of different receptor subtypes. METHODS: Peptides, including PACAP-27, PACAP-38, amino acid substituted PACAP-27 and C-terminus truncated analogues PACAP (27-38), were synthesized by a simultaneous multiple solid-phase peptide synthesizer. Flow probes of an ultrasound transit-time blood flowmeter were placed around the LGA of beagle dogs. Whenpeptides were infused intravenously, the blood flow was measured.RESULTS: [Ala4, Val5]-PACAP-27 caused a concentration-dependent vasodepressor action which was similar to that caused by PACAP-27. The LGA blood flow response to [Ala4, Val5]-PACAP-27 was significantly higher than that to PACAP-27, which was similar to that to vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) at the same dose. [Ala6]-PACAP-27 did not increase the peak LGA ? ow. [Gly8]-PACAP-27 showed a similar activity to VIP. [Asn24, Ser25, Ile26]-PACAP-27 did not change the activity of peptides at all doses.
