| 2 | Noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B显示文摘Infection with hepatitis B virus is an important healthproblem worldwide:it affects more than 350 millionpeople and is a leading cause of liver-related morbidity,accounting for 1 million deaths annually.Hepatic fibrosis is a consequence of the accumulation of extracellular matrix components in the liver.An accurate diagnosis of liver fibrosis is essential for the management of chronic liver disease.Liver biopsy has been considered the gold standard for diagnosing disease,grading necroinflammatory activity,and staging fibrosis.However,liver biopsy is unsuitable for repeated evaluations because it is invasive and can cause major complications,including death.Several noninvasive evaluations have been introduced for the assessment of liver fibrosis:serum biomarkers,combined indices or scores,and imaging techniques including transient elastography,acoustic radiation force impulse,real-time tissue elastography,and magnetic resonance elastography.Here,we review the recent progress of noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B.Most noninvasive evaluations for liver fibrosis have been validated first in patients with chronic hepatitis C,and later in those with chronic hepatitis B.The establishment of a noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis is urgently needed to aid in the management of this leading cause of chronic liver disease. | Masaru Enomoto Hiroyasu Morikawa Akihiro Tamori Norifumi Kawada | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,34: | 16 |

| 4 | Nutritional status in relation to lifestyle in patients with compensated viral cirrhosis显示文摘AIM:To assess the nourishment status and lifestyle of non-hospitalized patients with compensated cirrhosis by using noninvasive methods.METHODS:The subjects for this study consisted of 27 healthy volunteers,59 patients with chronic viral hepatitis,and 74 patients with viral cirrhosis,from urban areas.We assessed the biochemical blood tests,anthropometric parameters,diet,lifestyle and physical activity of the patients.A homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) value of ≥ 2.5 was considered to indicate insulin resistance.We measured height,weight,waist circumference,arm circumference,triceps skin-fold thickness,and handgrip strength,and calculated body mass index,arm muscle circumference(AMC),and arm muscle area(AMA).We interviewed the subjects about their dietary habits and lifestyle using health assessment computer software.We surveyed daily physical activity using a pedometer.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression modeling were used to identify the relevant factors for insulin resistance.RESULTS:The rate of patients with HOMA-IR ≥ 2.5(which was considered to indicate insulin resistance) was 14(35.9%) in the chronic hepatitis and 17(37.8%) in the cirrhotic patients.AMC(%)(control vs chronic hepatitis,111.9% ± 10.5% vs 104.9% ± 10.7%,P = 0.021;control vs cirrhosis,111.9% ± 10.5% vs 102.7% ± 10.8%,P = 0.001) and AMA(%)(control vs chronic hepatitis,128.2% ± 25.1% vs 112.2% ± 22.9%,P = 0.013;control vs cirrhosis,128.2% ± 25.1% vs 107.5% ± 22.5%,P = 0.001) in patients with chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis were significantly lower than in the control subjects.Handgrip strength(%) in the cirrhosis group was significantly lower than in the controls(control vs cirrhosis,92.1% ± 16.2% vs 66.9% ± 17.6%,P < 0.001).The results might reflect a decrease in muscle mass.The total nutrition intake and amounts of carbohydrates,protein and fat were not significantly different amongst the groups.Physical activity levels(kcal/d)(control vs cirrhosis,210 ± 113 kcal/d vs 125 ± 74 kcal/d,P = 0.001),number of steps(step/d)(control vs cirrhosis,8070 ±3027 step/d vs 5789 ± 3368 step/d,P = 0.011),and exercise(Ex)(Ex/wk)(control vs cirrhosis,12.4 ± 9.3 Ex/wk vs 7.0 ± 7.7 Ex/wk,P = 0.013) in the cirrhosis group was significantly lower than the control group.The results indicate that the physical activity level of the chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis groups were low.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression modeling suggested that Ex was associated with insulin resistance(odds ratio,6.809;95% CI,1.288-36.001;P = 0.024).The results seem to point towards decreased physical activity being a relevant factor for insulin resistance.CONCLUSION:Non-hospitalized cirrhotic patients may need to maintain an adequate dietary intake and receive lifestyle guidance to increase their physical activity levels. | Fumikazu Hayashi Chika Momoki Miho Yuikawa Yuko Simotani Etsushi Kawamura Atsushi Hagihara Hideki Fujii Sawako Kobayashi Shuji Iwai Hiroyasu Morikawa Masaru Enomoto Akihiro Tamori Norifumi Kawada Satoko Ohfuji Wakaba Fukusima Daiki Habu | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,40: | 11 |

| 6 | Cerebral lipiodol embolism related to a vascular lake during chemoembolization in hepatocellular carcinoma:A case report and review of the literature显示文摘A male patient underwent conventional transcatheter chemoembolization for advanced recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Even after the injection of 7 m L of lipiodol followed by gelatin sponge particles, the flow of feeding arteries did not slow down. A repeat angiography revealed a newly developed vascular lake draining into systemic veins; however, embolization was continued without taking noticing of the vascular lake. The patient's level of consciousness deteriorated immediately after the procedure, and non-contrast computed tomography revealed pulmonary and cerebral lipiodol embolisms. The patient's level of consciousness gradually improved after 8 wk in intensive care. In this case, a vascular lake emerged during chemoembolization and drained into systemic veins, offering a pathway carrying lipiodol to pulmonary vessels, the most likely cause of this serious complication. | 7 | Identification of activity stop locations in GPS trajectories by density-based clustering method combined with support vector machines显示文摘The identification of activity locations in continuous GPS trajectories is an essential preliminary step in obtaining person trip data and for activity-based transportation demand forecasting.In this research,a two-step methodology for identifying activity stop locations is proposed.In the first step,an improved density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise(DBSCAN) algorithm identifies stop points and moving points;then in the second step,the support vector machines(SVMs) method distinguishes activity stops from non-activity stops among the identified stop points.A time sequence constraint and a direction change constraint are applied as improvements to DBSCAN(yielding an improved algorithm known as C-DBSCAN).Then three major features are extracted for use in the SVMs method:stop duration,mean distance to the centroid of a cluster of points at a stop location,and the shorter of distances from current location to home and to the workplace.The proposed methodology was tested using GPS data collected from mobile phones in the Nagoya area of Japan.The C-DBSCAN algorithm achieves an accuracy of 90%in identifying stop points in the first step,while the SVMs method is 96%accurate in distinguishing the locations of activity stops from non-activity stops in the second step.Compared to other variants of DBSCAN used to identify activity locations from GPS trajectories,this two-step method is generally superior. | Lei Gong Hitomi Sato Toshiyuki Yamamoto Tomio Miwa Takayuki Morikawa | 2015 | Journal of Modern Transportation2015,23,3: | 8 |

| 9 | BMP-induced Atoh8 attenuates osteoclastogenesis by suppressing Runx2 transcriptional activity and reducing the Rankl/Opg expression ratio in osteoblasts显示文摘Adult bone structural integrity is maintained by remodeling via the coupling of osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation.Osteocytes or osteoblasts express receptor activator of nuclear factor k-B ligand(Rankl)or osteoprotegerin(Opg)to promote or inhibit osteoclastogenesis,respectively.Bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)is a potent bone inducer,but its major role in adult bone is to induce osteocytes to upregulate sclerostin(Sost)and increase the Rankl/Opg expression ratio,resulting in promotion of osteoclastogenesis.However,the precise effect of BMP-target gene(s)in osteoblasts on the Rankl/Opg expression ratio remains unclear.In the present study,we identified atonal homolog 8(Atoh8),which is directly upregulated by the BMPSmadl axis in osteoblasts.In vivo,Atoh8 was detected in osteoblasts but not osteocytes in adult mice.Although global Atoh8-knockout mice showed only a mild phenotype in the neonate skeleton,the bone volume was decreased and osteoclasts were increased in the adult phase.Atoh8-null marrow stroma cells were more potent than wild-type cells in inducing osteoclastogenesis in marrow cells.Atoh8 loss in osteoblasts increased Runx2 expression and the Rankl/Opg expression ratio,while Runx2 knockdown normalized the Rankl/Opg expression ratio.Moreover,Atoh8 formed a protein complex with Runx2 to inhibit Runx2 transcriptional activity and decrease the Rankl/Opg expression ratio.These results suggest that bone remodeling is regulated elaborately by BMP signaling;while BMP primarily promotes bone resorption,it simultaneously induces Atoh8 to inhibit Runx2 and reduce the Rankl/Opg expression ratio in osteoblasts,suppressing osteoclastogenesis and preventing excessive BMP-mediated bone resorption. | Yuhei Yahiro Shingo Maeda Masato Morikawa Daizo Koinuma Go Jokoji Toshiro ljuin Setsuro Komiya Ryoichiro Kageyama Kohei Miyazono Noboru Taniguchi | 2020 | Bone Research2020,8,3: | 6 |

| 17 | An analysis on older driver's driving behavior by GPS tracking data: Road selection, left/right turn, and driving speed显示文摘With the high older-related accident ratio and increasing population aging problem,understanding older drivers' driving behaviors has become more and more important for building and improving transportation system. This paper examines older driver's driving behavior which includes road selection, left/right turn and driving speed. A two-month experiment of 108 participants was carried out in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Since apparently contradictory statements were often drawn in survey-based or simulators-based studies,this study collected not only drivers' basic information but also GPS data. Analysis of road selection demonstrates that older drivers are reluctant to drive on expressway not only in short trips but also in long trips. The present study did not find significant difference between older drivers and others while turning at the intersections. To investigate the impact factors on driving speed, a random-effects regression model is constructed with explanatory variables including age, gender, road types and the interaction terms between age and road types. Compared with other variables, it fails to find that age(60 years old or over)has significant impact on driving speed. Moreover, the results reflect that older drivers drive even faster than others at particular road types: national road and ordinary municipal road.
